In July i lost my wife. We knew straight away that with all of the restrictions in place that planning the funeral was not going to be easy. It is never easy planning a funeral. We were referred to Joseph Medcalf Funeral Services by a family member. We were very grateful because we had no idea where to start or where to look. It shows you how important and powerful "word of mouth" can be. We contacted the office and was immediately put at ease by Michelle. We arranged for an appointment and went to meet her. We were met with professionalism, respect and compassion...and that never wavered. At no point did I feel pressured to pick the most expensive, the most extravagant. When the choices were made they were met with sincerity. Michelle talked us through every step so we never felt lost or unsure. Michelle pretty much took care of everything, and all with precision and diligence. The day of the funeral was always going to be hard but Michelle and her team executed such a lovely and respectable service. My wife would have been proud. After the service, we could have just driven from the church to the cemetery....but that is not what happened. Because my wife had spent her last weeks in hospital, she never got the chance to come home. Our house is not far from the cemetery so Michelle asked if we would like to drive past to honor my wife before heading to the cemetery. We all thought it was a beautiful idea. So after the service we headed towards my house. But we didn't just drive by. The Hearse stopped. Michelle stepped out, picked a white rose from the floral arrangement and placed it on my doorstep. My wife was finally home. The burial was organized well and we couldn't have asked for a more dignified way to say goodbye. Joseph Medcalf Funeral Services provided everything that was needed and never left us in the dark. We thank them for their professionalism, compassion and experience. Michelle and the team have reminded us that there ARE still good people in the world. It isn't just about the money. Michelle and the team at Joseph Medcalf Funeral Services, Matraville, are excellent! They planned and held my grandmother’s funeral at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic when restrictions were the tightest. Michelle and the team were very accommodating, compassionate and proactive while navigating through tough restrictions. Their hard work resulted in a wonderful tribute and funeral to my late grandmother, which I know my Nanna would have loved. A year later, I approached Michelle to plan and hold my grandfather’s funeral. Michelle was able to swiftly secure a venue for the service and wake with the right capacity to hold an unexpected number of mourners. She was also sensitive to and carefully handled my family’s dynamics during the planning and decision-making process for the funeral. The family and I ultimately found the process easy with Michelle’s guidance. Nothing was too much effort for Michelle! And once again, as a result of all the hard work, this funeral was a fitting celebration of my late grandfather’s life that the whole family and mourners found very engaging. My Nonno would have been proud! I would also like to commend Paul, the celebrant, who officiated both services. Paul has tremendous sensitivity and charisma and an appropriate sense of humour that made these funerals very special and memorable. I would like to bring to your attention the fantastic service provided to me and my family by Peter KONDILIOS for the funeral of my mother, Jeanine, on Thursday 1 June 2023. I know Peter through the South Maroubra Surf Club and already had a great impression of him as a caring person and good bloke so I knew we would be in safe hands with him organising the funeral. He made the entire process effortless and gave great advice. He carried out my instructions to the letter and the funeral went off without a hitch. The service exceeded my expectations at a very trying time in our lives. I was approached by many attendees who stated that it was the 'best' funeral that they had ever attended. This is down to Peter. He recommended and arranged the excellent MC, Paul YOUNG, who conducted the service, put together the excellent photo tribute and memorial card amongst many other things making the day one my mother would have been extremely happy with. Peter is a credit to your organisation and I will definitely be recommending him as a funeral director to any person I know that is in the unfortunate circumstance of having to organise a funeral. He was not like other funeral directors I had been to that reminded me of car salesman trying to add on extras that I didn't want or need.

One of the hardest things I have had to do was plan my mothers funeral, had it not been for the staff at Joseph Medcalf Funerals I don’t think I could have done it. Joseph Medcalf funeral services recently undertook my mother's funeral arrangements amidst COVID restrictions with only 10 people allowed. Michelle and her team were very courteous and thorough in making all the arrangements, in particular not leaving anything for us to attend to, which allowed us to grieve as a family to ease the pain of our loss. Their products are very high quality and they were very timely and punctual. They accommodated all subsequent requests and changes we needed to do without any surcharge. I am very impressed by the way they took our bereavement seriously and they dealt with it with a personal touch. The live streaming from the South Chapel was amazing with all videos and music exceptionally well synchronized. We received lots of good comments from those who watched it from overseas! Loosing somebody very close is not easy. Michele, I have to thank for being caring and understanding. The small Chapel at Matraville was excellent and location was easy for family and friends to park their cars. More important I was able to have a viewing at the chapel to say a private farewell.
