Visited on a wet Saturday afternoon, made a booking in advance so we didn’t have to wait for a table or sit outside - so glad we did this! The setting is beautiful! Very warm and welcoming on a cold, rainy day! The decorations inside were very cute and “old school”. They had some locally sourced honey in jars and post cards for sale too! Staff were friendly and nice! There were also a good array of cakes and pastries to choose from at the counter. The drinks we ordered were lovely! The chai had great flavour and was so easy to drink, the perfect sweetness too. The coffees came piping hot and were good and strong. We ordered 2 serves of scones, they were huge and came piping hot right out of the oven, we received 2 types of jam, one blackberry and raspberry i think. Both were good. The chocolate and raspberry cake was very rich and decadent, but a smidge too sweet for my liking. it was hard to finish the whole piece of cake because of how rich, chocolatey and sweet it was. The side of cream it came was a good contrast. Overall, we had a really good time and experience here and would definitely recommend to friends and revisit! Scones with jam and cream, Chocolate came with raspberry, Prana Chai, Large Flat White, Small Latte

Kallista Tea Room has been on my to-visit list for a while and when we decided to drop in, at lunch on a weekday, I was very pleasantly surprised. Let's talk food: AMAZING. I had the chilli eggs and would heartily recommend: just the right amount of kick and full of flavour. Hubby had the brioche french toast, slightly elevated from your typical fare by the delicious addition of pear compote and coconut custard. A must have for all the sweet tooths out there. The prices were maybe a touch on the dearer side (think tourist pricing) though I personally think reasonable enough for the quality. As far as atmosphere think ecclectic-bush-hole-in-the-wall; a big tick in my book. With a laid-back, chill vibe it's perfect for a long, gossipy cuppa or just a quick bite to eat. Of note and one of the HUGE highlights for me was the picturesque native cockatoo viewing: free with lunch. The interior of the cafe has a section with this glorious picture window showing the local winged residents chilling, pruning and putting on a free show. It was as unexpected as it was delightful. I'll definitely be back: the high tea is calling my name.

We love the Kallista Tea Rooms. The Art Deco building always lends a beautiful ambiance to our dining experience. Today my daughter in-law and I experienced the High tea + a beautiful bottle of Prosecco. Everything was delicious and the table setting was so pretty decorated with scattered origami butterflies and a crane made of colourful paper. We couldn’t finish all the food and the lovely waitress popped what we couldn’t eat into a cake box to take home. There will be no dinner for us tonight that’s for sure. Thank you to the beautiful Kallista Tea Room family for making a morning so special.

There is a 2 tiered parking option down the side street which is quite steep. Another time when I brought my elderly dad for lunch , I let him out at the tea rooms and then parked the car.

We’ve been visiting the hills for years, but hadn’t yet been here until yesterday. Wish I had have gone sooner, it was an absolutely lovely cafe to stop for a nice afternoon tea. I wanted to stop to see the birds, and the viewing from inside the cafe certainly didn’t disappoint. We originally were sat a bit further back from the window closest to the birds, as the others were full or reserved, but as soon as a couple left that were by the window, I asked the kind staff if I could move there and they were super friendly and let us do so. My bird loving heart was so full! Watching the cockatoos whilst sipping on tea and having; might I add the BEST scones I’ve ever had, made for a nice finish to the day. Truly, the clotted cream & scones were just perfect. Staff are very warm, and friendly in conversation. The atmosphere is cosy & serene. One thousand percent will be back again.

Stunning. The staff are so lovely and the food was delicious. I was so impressed that I booked a high tea for my birthday! It was lovely to relax for brunch today, looking out the window at the gorgeous birds. 100% recommend! Just wanted to add to this review. We had high tea and it was GLORIOUS!! Absolutely stunning selection of cooked savouries, warm, fluffy, scrumptious scones and sweet petites! We enjoyed Turkish coffee, chai, herbal tea and cappuccino. The table was presented beautifully and the staff were all soo kind and attentive… that potato rosti though… ohhh my goodness!!! HEAVEN!!! I would give 6+ stars if I could. The staff really add to the pleasantness of the high tea experience and we just wish to extend our sincere thanks for making it all feel as special as it was. Would highly recommend the high tea to anyone who is thinking about trying it. It’s STUNNING!!! ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️+

The tea rooms had been recommended to us & we'd been told to leave room for scones. So we opted for a lamb salad each for lunch - delicious sauces with pops of sweetness from pomegranate & crunch from the green beans & pistachio. Next was the scones.... Oh my My friend had regular ones & I had the gluten free ones with clotted cream. It was traditional clotted cream - don't be alarmed as it's meant to be super thick. It was amazing. How they made mine GF was unreal - I usually miss out on having scones but not today. Do not skip the scones or get some to take away

Went today (23 June 2023) for lunch for the first time. It was busy but service was good. Our food arrived within a reasonable wait time. We had the Lamb Shoulder Salad and Veggie Stack. They were very fresh, warm, reasonable serving and delicious. Great hot chocolate and nice hot caffe latte. Nice and clean, pleasant , polite, prompt service with very pretty views and the silver crested cockatoos were a delight to watch! Highly recommend to reserve ahead as they are busy even on weekdays. Wolfed down our meals and forgot to take photos. Next time!

Lovely spot. Parking is down the hill, bit of a hard walk up if you have issues walking. Inside and outside seating is nice. Menu has lots of dietary options which is great. But the wait time for service was long, we sat for a while without anyone asking for coffee order first, and we had to ask for water during our meal.

Charming location with inviting staff. Cake was delicious. Chips were great tummy filler on a cold day. Last time I went to Kalista tea house I didn't like what I ordered from the main menu. I thought it was just me. But my friend ordered a main meal and she didn't eat it. I asked why "not enjoyable". Again, location and setting charming. The cakes and scones are delicious.

Finding the Kallista Tearooms was a lucky drive by for myself and my friend. We ordered 2 Chicken and Avocado Paninis with chips and 1 white and 1 dark hot chocolate. Paninis were freshly toasted and avocados were perfectly ripened with a generous amount of chicken and cheese. They were still warm for our short walk in Sherbrooke! Highly recommend stopping by as the staff are super friendly and polite, the company and close views of the local cockatoos are stunning! If you’re wanting to dine in, I’d recommend booking a table as they get quite busy at peak meal times.

Always busy and for good reason. The building dates back to the 50's; has a great selection on the menu; kids welcome... and most important... the scones.. try them they are SO GOOD! Update, and still a great place to have a relaxing lunch. The food is still great, my coffee was beautiful and great to watch the cockatoos in the trees

Fantastic cafe in the Dandenong Ranges! We popped in on Sunday 1pm and although it was busy we were lucky to be seated straight away! The food was abit slow to come out but considering the busyness we didn’t mind. I ordered a gf Eggs Benedict, chips, orange cake and gf scones to go! It’s great to find a place that caters to Coeliac Gluten Free - they have a separate fryer for the chips and lots of gf (and other dietary) options. The food was delicious and the scone is one of the best gf I’ve had in Melbourne! Highly recommend a visit when you’re in the area!

We came in for breakfast and had a really lovely time. The view is pretty with a large tree full of cockatoos peeping through the windows at you, so cute! The staff were really lovely, the coffee and mocha were very nice. I had the eggs Benedict, the pork was a tiny bit dry and there was just too much for me, I wasn’t really a fan of the cooked apples on it either, something a little bit more refreshing would have been nice. My partner had the chilli scramble and really enjoyed it, he just said the egg whites were a little undercooked but other than that really good

I ordered the mushroom medley with a side order of bacon, and my daughter ordered the avocado toast. Don't know about medley, there was not many mushrooms on the plate, certainly not enough to cover the 2 pieces of toast that arrived, maybe 2 medium/small Swiss browns, and a few small pieces of different mushrooms, the bacon shattered into small pieces when I cut it, never had bacon that crispy (overcooked). Overall my meal was very disappointing, they did remove the bacon from the total bill. My daughters meal seemed much more generous and she enjoyed it.

Been here a few times and always enjoyed it. Cheerful atmosphere and great view of the cockatoos. Usually full towards the end of the day as it is a fantastic spot for afternoon tea. Really enjoyed the scones and jam, the chai was great too, can't comment on the breakfast or lunch though. Friendly and attentive staff and can work with dietary requirements. (GF scones, oat milk, etc) Unfortunately you can't feed the cockatoos! (Photo taken here)

Loved the cute tea house, even the toilet was cute and historical. Hehehe. The wonderful wide windows gave a good view. Had excellent and varied breakfast options. Not just eggs but proper meal for brekkie too. Loved the cakes. They had Gluten free and dairy free cakes. The macaroons were to die for and the pistachio raspberry cake was gorgeous. Our visit to Kallista Tearooms was a lovely experience. Food was tasty and well presented and we could have sat and watched the entertaining cockatoos through the viewing windows for hours. The original 1940's wooden chairs were a bit uncomfortable on our aged backs, but it was lovely to find an original eatery with an authentic respect for the venue's history. Be sure to check out the beautiful restrooms.

Enjoy your coffee with the cockatoos at Kallista Tea Rooms. On this occasion, I ordered the Brioche French Toast ($18.50) with coconut custard, berries, pear and macadamia crunch. My dining companion chose the Frittata of the Day ($15). The lattes ($4.50) were delightful and the service was fast and friendly. You can easily book online to ensure you get a table. The window tables are best for bird watching and parking is located behind the cafe.

We ordered: Vegan Smashbrowns & Shrooms $20, Mexi Baked Beans $18, Corn Fritters $18, House Smoked Salmon & Hashbrown $21, Vegan Brown Rice Rosotto $20.5, and the Apple Pie Pancakes $18. All included great quality fresh ingredients, were cooked and prepared perfectly, and were absolutely delicious - just bursting with a range of well mixed flavours. We also tried their scones, lindt hot chocolates and a range of interesting teas. This place is a gem, and the view, the atmosphere and the friendly staff were the icing on the cake. I'd highly recommend this place.

Service- staff are helpful and very quick moving. Food- Scones are great, quite standard. Ordered the pancakes as well but it’s fairly small portion and it’s not the common pancakes that you get from other places. Not my type of pancakes unfortunately. (Still don’t know what’s the white thing in the pancake dish) Environment- decoration are good with nice wallpapers in the bathroom. Outdoor space to the back parking area has many birds Advices: fix the hand washing chemical dispenser Would come again for other items on the menu if it’s on the way.

Amazing!! I've passed here so many times and finally decided to stop by. The food quality was amazing and so fresh and delicious! Beautiful coffee. It was freezing but we sat outside because it was so so beautiful. I've been disappointed by a few places out this way recently, but I am so happy I've found our new regular. Such a beautiful hidden gem within the beautiful Dandenong Ranges. The view is unbelievable, the restaurant has this amazing huge tree that attracts cockatoo which adds this extra magical feel to the place. When we arrived the kitchen was closed but we got scones that were served warm with berry jam & cream. Honestly the best scones I ever tried. They also have high tea which requires 24hrs prior booking. They’re open from 9 to 5 but kitchen closes at 3. Never miss this place!

Kallista Tea Rooms is one of those places you visit and even before leaving, you’re already planning your next visit. It’s a gem. People and Service -great! Food- great! Ambiance-great! Value - great! Oh and the sight of birds perched on the trees is a wonderful experience There’s not a lot of places that you can find that ticked all these boxes. Make sure you make reservations on weekends and holidays. It’s definitely worth the trip to Kallista.

Stopped by and enjoyed a great atmosphere as well as amazing hot chocolate White was so yummy. Also sitting by the windows with the birds right next to us was amazing. The service was great lovely staff scones and fresh made jams were lovely. Toilets were clean and the whole shop was just lovely from the local teas to the paintings on the wall. Definitely a place to stop if you are visiting #mtdandenong #Kallistatearooms

Booked high tea. Listed in my online booking that I wanted high tea. They knew this because there was an alert next to my reservation on their screen - I saw it when we arrived and the server immediately mentioned it. They couldn’t accommodate us but rather than call or email beforehand to let us know so we could make other plans, they waited until we turned up which was a lovely way to waste our time.

Cute Art Deco cafe, with cockatoos as regular visitors! Hot coffee, and tasty food. I thought the banana pancakes were delicious, but left me a bit hungry - it wasn’t a generous serve for either of us - could have done with another pancake and another rasher of bacon. The other weird thing is they specifically asked if my partner wanted crispy bacon, and when it came, it wasn’t crispy at all?!

  • Anna Lee

What a wonderful experience! Our go to spot is closed on Tuesdays so we decided to branch out, and I’m so glad we did. The birds outside the window was a nice touch, perfect for all ages. The food and service were great as well - I was about to ask for a paper bag for the scone we couldn’t finish and we were given a box with a fresh set of cream and jam - how thoughtful!! Highly recommended.

It was a beautiful day for a drive through the mountain trees in the Dandenongs. The Mrs wanted Scones so off we went. The Scones were my wife's best ones she's ever tasted. So it was a great choice to stop at on this beautiful day. My lemon meringue pie was great as well. Our coffees were a great addition to our seating. Great food and drinks, what else do you need?

Perfect location for good relaxing vibes on a weekday. Beautifully decorated walls and there are many birds on the tree next to the window which make it a lovely sight especially during autumn. Scones were very fluffy but note that you need to eat right away while warm as we noticed it does get more solid if cooled. A little pricey but great location to chill at once in a while.

This place is wonderful. I struggle with choice, needing gluten and dairy-free. This often limits my experience. NOT HERE - they cater brilliantly for intolerances without forgoing on taste. A very nice place for brunch or lunch. Spacious and got a very good atmosphere to chill where surrounded by heaps of cute cockatoos. Staff were friendly. Their foods and drinks were average though. Overall it’s a cool spot to stop by :)

Friendly service and very yummy food. Good atmosphere especially with native birds coming up to the window! Will be back and would recommend for a great breakfast Food menu was a bit basic but well done and good serving size Would be a great place for a small function too

Good spot aesthetically, everyone who works there is really lovely. Love the Lindt hot chocolate! Reason for not giving 5 is the food is tasty but has come out cold a few times. Otherwise a lovely spot!

Nice place with a great view inside, if you are lucky to sit beside the window and watch Cockatoos. Loved the coffee and the fact they had Lactose free milk available for my wife. Scones are the best ✌️

One of the best scones I've ever had, it's soft, fluffy and moist. The free range eggs also taste delicious. As a bonus, there's cockatoos hanging around the tree within a few metres away from you to enjoy while you dine. Highly recommend this cafe.

We Loved the coffee with lemon cake slice and kids enjoyed Nutella bars. Everything was soo good but Nutella bars felt like elite ❣❣❣❣ Very friendly staff. I loved that old soap dispenser in the toilet.

Staff were lovely, however the owner didn't seem to care or listen to our concerns when we passed them on. We booked a table and when we arrived nothing had been set up, and squished 5 of us onto a small table. The food took an hour to come

Iced chocolate was sickeningly rich, scones were ok but left a tingly numb feeling on our tongues. Staff seemed to want us in and out quickly as we had just sat down not even picked up the menu when we were being asked for our order

Such a warming unique environment & helpful staff. We enjoyed breakfast which offered quality tasty options. Our little dog was made welcome too. Looking forward to going back.

Good if you like everything gluten free. Only having sour dough as an option is not for me. My family and I like to have bacon and eggs on normal bread thanks.

Scones were ?$13.5 and that didn't include tea for another $6. And then, 10% surcharge for the weekend! Tourist trap tax. Crazy prices, nice staff and setting though.
