You know, not much is known here for first time visitors. Although its connected to a college there are several reasons on why its one of my favorite museums. 1) The quiet peaceful atmosphere. The museum is insde the fort and connected to the library. No one will bother you in your visit. If you come during the semester, you'll see students studying and on the weekends, you might even see some renovating the exhibits. Don't be afraid to ask questions here. 2) The museum itself. All the artifacts placed here are full of maritime history and a lot of them are very old. Although not very interactive (aside from the occasional wheels and bells), it's heavily informative. As you walk throughout the museum you can feel the historical significance throughout the exhibits. 3) The area. Food-wise, nah. However the museum is is very close to the gigantic east river. You're free to walk around campus breath in the fresh air, jog, fish, bike, or even enjoy the sufferings of the cadets walking around. The campus is a beautiful place and really adds a certain feel to the museum
Look for the old stone fort, after you go under the bridge, and find a parking spot. Signs to museums leave a lot to be desired. They tease you in the beginning with lots of them, but in the end, you need to ask because there are no signs anywhere. But the museum is very nicely laid out and has lots of scale models with lots of detail. Students who pass through are very helpful and knowledgeable about things in and around the area. Do not go on a windy day. Also building a new pier, and piledriver is making a ton of mind-blowing noise that will cause headaches and numbness in your left foot. But great views of New York City, and your ability to escape the smell of pot while by our there.
Overlooking the old harbor, this museum traces the history of Dubrovnik as a major trading power in the Adriatic. In the 16th century, the city-republic had one of the world’s largest fleets, with more than 180 ships and 4,000 sailors! The exhibits here are in English and include model ships from that time, making it a nice 1-1.5 hour visit if it is raining in Dubrovnik. Pro-tip: buy the Dubrovnik visitor card, it will grant you free access to this and other museums…plus the epic city walls!
This is a hidden diamond and it is free. If you visit it you will learn a lot and you will be transported to the same moment in history that you are looking at, it can be a photo or structure but you will have that restlessness to know more about that time. Highly recommended and you will get home with a lot of knowledge.

I was in the American Blue Jackets. We were stationed there in the 60s. It was a Maritime College then. I was blessed to be a part of this organization. My best memory of this place was the huge cannon in the gym. We learned how to operate this weapon, under the command of Commander Harms. Best part of my life.
So many amazing historic artifacts, and documents on display! This museum is a fun, free and interesting place for anybody interested in American history. Self guided tours, you could just walk through or spend hours taking the time to investigate everything the museum has on display.
What an amazing place! So many real ship parts, intricate replicas, and fascinating history you won't believe you never knew Organized, clean, and massive!

This is a great place to visit. You will be able to take a walk around the beautiful maritime college campus. Lots of places for a photo shoot. You will enjoy the trip to a peninsula most New Yorker don't know about. The look under the Throgs Neck bridge.
First visiting the museum while my husband had to report to his NOSC. There are so many things to see (lots of artifacts) and much to learn about the Maritime industry and ships around the world. Another great museum inside the Maritime campus.
A pretty neat campus to walk around but even more interesting are the views of the Throgs Neck and water from high points. However, the museum was the most enjoyable aspect. Being just a visitor, I came in to find a ghost-like atmosphere
Wonderful museum for anyone interested in maritime history and artifacts. Dozens of large model boats and historical accounts. Peaceful and quiet on a weekday afternoon. Immerse yourself in maritime history. This place is wonderful.
Rich collection of models and maritime artifacts. Fascinating displays on the General Slocum, Morro Castle and Andrea Doria disasters. All located in 19th century Fort Schuyler. Thank you for making this great museum available.
Would have been a 5 star rating but for the paucity of attention given to the Coast Artillery portion of the history of Fort Schuyler. And no mention of my favorite tune: "No Sleep Til Brooklyn".
What a great museum and it's free. If you love anything maritime, this is the place to go. Amazing location, way off the beaten path. L

es muy fácil llegar en autobús, entrar es muy fácil y rápido, es gratis. en el museo hay muchas cosas que ver y conocer sobre la marina de EEUU, toda una historia que contar, me gusto mucho.
They continue to get better. I've been visiting the museum for the last 20 years and it's well set up and in a beautiful setting. Must see to learn about our history as a Maritime Nation.
Visit every year during the Admirals dinner, and always find a piece of history that I did not know about. There is a wall to fallen alumni that I always visit and pay my respects.
Love this college. They have a very concise mission and goal. If you have an interest in the military, engineering, naval studies you should definitely look into this college.
Went with a friend who attends the University there, I loved the museum and if you're interested in maritime or have served in the Navy you'll love it as well
Beautiful place the view is great

Amazing. So much interesting history and artifacts. You can explore old lighthouse and historic fort. Beautiful water views. Loved it. More
Part of a school, no museum staff to answer questions, set up in the hallway outside of classrooms, mostly just model ships.
A hidden gem of Maritime history! Wish I could have spent more time exploring the museum; family was impatient.
Esto nos narra toda una explicación tan detallada, que llevas a un plano como si fuese una película tan real
Actually there to tour SUNY Maritime, but did spend time (not enough) i. The museum. Worth a trip back.
A lot of rich history; hundreds of model ships, amazing artifacts, and beautiful nautical paintings.
SUNY Maritine College is one of the nation's top Maritine Colleges. An excellent museum exhibit.
Such an amazing musuem. So informative and historic. Highly recommend to anyone and everyone.
Rich history, amazing exhibits, all encapsulated by an impressive fortress.
What a beautiful place! I'm looking at SUNY Maritime for my colleges!
Museums are so fun. Wish I would remember them more often.
