I've made 3 visits in the past week, and am appaled at the service from the older female staff. The first time I visited the men's section, there were three women (guessing two of the three were managers) laughing and joking for about 15 minutes. I tried indicating that I wanted help and the woman who saw me waving her over looked at me and went straight back to her conversation. So I put the suit I was holding down and left. But I needed a suit and knew what I wanted, just wanted some help to choose shirt and tie colour. Anyway, after I left, I grabbed some food somewhere else and went back in an hour later. I found a young girl to help me, and she said she didn't know the answer, no issue with that because she took me to the guy who did know the answer. Tapiwa, super helpful advice, really friendly, positive, great all round customer service and he is the only reason I am giving more than one star in this review. I went back today to check that it was just an off day the last time I visited, but no. I found a female member of staff and asked her about overcoats, she said it's the wrong time of year, we don't have what you want, So I said but it's online saying it's here. She said So? And walked off. I truly hope upper management see this and train those women customer service skills, even better, get the lad from behind the tills to train them, he was 10/10 the reason I decided to go back to the store. But I didn't see him today, so I bought an overcoat at Zara instead. They had 10/10 customer service.

What a disappointment! I went to M&S in Leeds to buy a suit yesterday as they closed their Huddersfield branch a few years agoy ( and before that they already refused to sell me a suit, telling me to go to Leeds or Manchester). I last visited the Leeds branch over two years ago. Then there was an entire huge floor devoted to menswear and lots of suits, jackets and coats to choose from. Now they have closed most of the store and retreated to the smaller premises I remember from the 1960s. Menswear now seems confined to a quarter of a much smaller floor, jostling alongside home furnishings. There were just a few suits to choose from, several of them unsuitable because "slim fit". I did select a suit, but they didn't have the right size trouser and there was nobody there to check the inventory or advise me. The place was dismal, with the uneven floors from decades ago. After 70 years of loyalty to M&S I'm finished with them.

Unfortunately, a pale shadow of its former self! Not really worth a visit. Many interesting, unique, good-value-for-money products have been discontinued. The rest (like refrigerated cakes, desserts, cheeses) are rising in price every couple of months, to the point where they are no longer affordable. Bread described as sourdough or rye, respectively, is not the real deal, but charged a premium price for nevertheless. Many baked goods, like sliced granary/wholemeal/white bread have shrunk in size and contain palm oil. If you want to pay double or triple for the same stuff you can find elsewhere for a lot cheaper, then by all means shop at M&S. Example: loose baking potatoes £2/kg at M&S; £1/kg elsewhere (Tesco, Sainsbury's). Compared to just a few years ago, hardly if any products are on special offer. Long queues at tills and self-checkouts.

I shop in Leeds very regularly and always spend a significant amount of money. The staff in the main are fantastic with the exception of one lady today, who was the most unhelpful, uncaring staff member I have ever come across. I have experienced her brand of customer service before and found it unacceptable then but she was worse than ever today. When I complained to her she blamed the M&S management….I have no idea how her ineptitude has anything to do with the management! On hearing my complaints she started singing “Footballs coming Home”. I am excited about the game as anyone but in her case she just wanted to divert from my complaints. My knowledge of M&S leads me to believe that they give great credence to customer service. In this case M&S have been very much let down.

Brilliant service received from Tapiwa. I was looking for 3pk work shirts in store. I asked a member of staff from the till (which was Tapiwa) as I can't find my size on the shelf. Tapiwa was helpful and attentive. He helped me check through the shelves, stock availability in different M&S stores and online. At the end, he looked into the deliveries that their store just received and he managed to find the shirt I wanted but in a slightly bigger size but different fit. However, he offered me to try out the sizes and I am happy with it and made the purchase. Thanks again to Tapiwa for getting me new shirts for work in time.

Very nice and big shop - they are M&S afterall! On the ground level (and higher) it is the clothes & other home stuff. The lower-ground is for foods etc. It is spacious and clean. Foods, fruits, desserts, bakery and so on are fresh and looking pretty good. They have a variety of products, you can always find what you want/need. What I found interesting is, they used not to have plant-based products in the past; however, recently they have something new for vegan people and some of them look really good! BRAVO! Such a big&nice step!

I have never experienced such outstanding service in a retail shop as I received from Sue(if I recall her name correctly -but she is the lady in charge of jeans) .She told me the leather jacket I was about buy didn't suit me (I agree) went searching for the right size of a different jacket and advised me on different types of jeans for about 20minutes.She is a real asset to M&S.They may have lost a sale of 1item but I bought a whole lot more thanks to her excellent customer care. I appreciate her kindness.

My sister wanted some perfume spray and was worried she couldn’t find any. We asked a lovely lady called Linda (Beauty department) and she helped us straight away told us what was what about the product my sister wanted, even went in the back to look for it and eventually she found a mini sized one which was perfect even better !! Her customer service was so nice and you don’t get that these days ,please make sure she gets a bonus

Called into the Briggate Leeds store today for lunch with my family…….big mistake! The cafe was busy but only 1 young girl was trying to serve food and clear tables but she was totally overwhelmed and trays of used cups and plates were piled on any spare surface. The menu was very reduced as it seems most items had sold out by 1.30pm. The whole experience was a shambles…….come on M&S this is your flagship store.

  • Muhammed Hebala

Nice and big branch of M&S. It is a 3-storey building with Men, Women and children compartments. The uppermost level is for home and appliances and the lower most is the food hall. There is also click and collect service in the - 1 level as well as an M&S Bank. Staff are nice and helpful and working hours are convenient. There are multiple fitting rooms and public toilets as well.

  • Vicky Armstrong

Absolutely shambles in the Cafe, they told me after I ordered my food that they didn't have it in stock. I then waited half an hour until someone refunded it for me. Then still waited another 10 mins until someone acknowledged we still have got our other half of the order. And still didn't refund me the right amount. Absolutely disgraceful. Will not be returning again!

  • Ryan Hughes

My partner and myself are frequent shoppers & users of M&S cafe /store. However today we arrived to a team of staff that didn't look to impressed to be at work. The young staff on the tills seemed disengaged with what they where doing nor did they have any customer service skills. Our coffees were OK, but the service we had was truely shocking.

  • Masoud Dehghani

We buy most of our clothing from this branch and I believe this one is one of those all you need you can find it here brances. The staff can be more friendly and more welcoming. Having said that, it doesn't mean that they're not helpful or if they're rude. They just need to smile more and take care of their customers with better attitudes.

  • Gillian L Cohen

Struggled to find things I knew they had in store. Couldn't find a price on something else (turned out to be a good price when I got to the till so I would have bought more if I hadn't lost all patience with the shop by then). Some items overpriced. It should be good but lots of things let them down I'm afraid.

  • John Nimrod

Only place in Leeds that I could find a hat that I wanted. Good store only dropped a star because some items are overpriced. Cafe is good with helpful staff can get busy at times. When visiting with friends who have children staff will get highchairs and make space for a pushchair. Should be a 4.5 rating :)

  • Sam Smart

Very happy with the service on the 1st floor today (women's lingerie /hosiery section) I was served by a very friendly assistant with great customer service. Her colleague beside her seemed to be giving the same standard to the other customer being served as well. I hope this store doesn't close down.

  • Catherine Tunnicliffe

I went in today. The cafe was dirty. There was 3 people stood in the kitchen talking. Most of the tables were full of trays and cups. I had to move some trays before i could sit down. As you can see behind the counter was a mess. I went to the Ladies and they were a mess. Its usually a lovely place.

  • susan gardner

Would have given a 5 star rating but for the service in the cafe. It has not been up to standard the last few times we visited (things missing off orders) but this time one of the young men was very rude on two occasions for no reason. Come on M and S up your game because you will be losing custom

  • Dawn Birnie

The clothes department was good. Went to their cafe and at 4.30pm on a Saturday the service was not good. Any available tables were piled high with trays. Wheen i asked a member of staff to clear our table was answered im busy and walked away. Gave up in the end and went elsewhere for a drink.

  • Hannah White

Cracked pepper on a cheese sandwich - Why are you trying to be fancy for no reason, is it because your prices are ridiculous for what you get? - Like who is even asking for hard lumps of pepper in such a basic sandwich. Leave things the way they should be and stop trying to be pretentious

  • Hilary Wilson

Having received email about household event decided to go into town to buy bedding. Waste of time as only v limited stock in double and king size. Wanted some trousers but also not available in my size. Have ordered both online, but it just reminds we why I don't bother using the store

  • Sarah Barrett

The lady on the upstairs fitting room was rude. I waited for about 1 minute she didn't say anything eg I won't be a moment. So I decided to make my way to a fitting room, then she piped up and said you need a disk. No manners miserable face and not welcoming. The other staff were nice

  • Lyn Matthews

After standing in line for what felt like hours ( probably 8/10 mins. Watching one lady taking orders, and several others talking, and walking around we left, (ladies behind us did too )and had a very nice breakfast at Debenhams, at over £2 less. (Each) Won’t bother again. Too slow!

  • Charlotte Whiteing

Cafe is my go to I love it there especially out on the terrace. However when buying an item of clothing today, the woman serving me was so miserable it put me in a horrible mood for the rest of my shopping trip. Terrible customer service from her and its putting me off your shop.

  • Julie Todd

The staff lovely But unfortunately the cafe No trays Had to clear my own table No teaspoon on my tray when I actually got one ! A shame But really not acceptable! Think this is across the broad With m&s cafes been to a few Different parts of country Seems to be the norm

  • Rachel Harrison

We had lunch in the cafe while visiting Leeds we find the food constantly good and well priced. I was served by NJ whom I gathered was the manager of this cafe in the store and what a credit to her job. Lovely to staff and customers truly customer service at its best

  • Paul Liversidge

Poor service. Went in to buy a few suits. Went in just after 8am so I knew it would be quiet. Spent 10 minutes in the suit area, 4 members of staff walking around, chatting with each other. Not one offered to help. So I left and went to a shop with decent staff.

  • Neil Main

Great for food & drink, men's business wear, shoes & accessories; some women's wear, especially underwear, swimwear, business & accessories. Skincare range pretty good too. Nice cafe, somewhat crowded at peak times 2nd floor verandah has the best tables.

  • Bob Hope

The Mrs loves it for the massive selection of clothes and we both love the cafe inside. Anything from a quick cuppa to full out and out food service. Catering for all tastes and not the most expensive I've come across. Can't really go wrong here.

  • Catherine Liversidge

Went for a look round and to pick up a few bits nice place to look round always pleasant staff on all floors and helpful staff down in food on tills can sometimes can be very rude and abrupt need some lessons in customer care skills and manners

  • Nada Sabbagh

Love this m&s. I shop here regularly. A big selection of good quality clothes on offer. Food hall is lovely. It's medium sized but packs a lot in. If you want a good choice of wines and spirits, m&s has it. Staff are very nice and hospitable.

  • Duncan Agnew

A traditional M&S Department store. A nice kids section and plenty of business wear for men and women. A nice cafe, though often busy with the clientele you might imagine. You are not likely to be elbowing people to get to your merchandise,

  • James Mac

A nice and big shop. There are 2 cafés here that do the same food. If you were off to the café, I would recommend the café on the top floor as it has a terrace that looks out into the Trinity Shopping Centre. Both cafés do nice food as well.

  • Edwina Duce

Incorrect pricing. Forced onto self serve been charge twice because no receipt but staff not voided my sale. Cafe like Macdonalds and staff quite rude.,apart from staff actually serving. Won't be visiting again apart to retrieve my refund!!

  • Fadilla Jamila

Combination between department stores and supermarket. You can find all your needs in one place from clothes, shoes, bags and accessories, underwear, cosmetics, homewares to variety of foods, vegetables, fruits, frozen stuff, breads,

  • SaeJune Park

My wife and I regularly do groceries shopping here and staffs are nice and kind! They also sell quality clothes as well and I have several outers from here. The prices are reasonable here given the quality of them is quite good.

  • Carole Kendell

Went in today 19/10/2022 and the young coloured lady serving downstairs on the till was a right misery, no please and thank you and couldn't even crack a smile. Maybe a bit of training in polite customer service would be helpful

  • Anna Lee

I used to buy a lot of my clothes here, but am very let down by the quality of your autumn collection this year. I have worn these items (and washed the jumper once) less than five times and they've already gone quite "bobbly".

  • Matthew Cooper

Always a good place to get a reasonably priced coffee and sit on their balcony. Not too busy around 5pm but if you come earlier it tends to fill up quickly with students trying to find a quiet place to get some work done.

  • Dawn

Just been in the cafe for lunch . The service was quick and pleasant but the chicken burger was very dry !! I felt it had been cooked more than once perhaps re heated in the microwave . Not a patch on Pudsey M&S cafe !!

  • K. Peake

This was a fantastic store for shopping, with different aisles of chocolates well laid out! I bought some gigantic buttons at an easily affordable price, staff were friendly and the design has a welcoming vibe too.

  • Richard Kelly

Great shop - much of their stuff is ethically sourced + their range of aftershaves aren't tested on animals. Add to that the food floor has an increasing range of vegan fayre and it's an easy 5-star rating :)

  • Elizabeth Crampton

Just back from Leeds Marks and Spencer. Good experience ☺️ clean and orderly, friendly service at foodhall. Bought vegan marshmallows absolutely delicious. Thank you for vegan friendly products!! …

  • Jenny Burdett

Staff were sparse, though pleasant. Nice variety and generally good quality. I love the childrens 'Walkright' shoes, they're great for toddler feet and very supportive. I prefer them to Clarks' shoes.

  • Jp Quigley

I never shop for their fashion but their food hall is fantastic. Great selection of products, all of which are excellent quality. Spice addicts score 4/5. Excellent pinching of comatose scumbag's cig.

  • Fiona Greatorex

Large, busy M & S in central Leeds. Improved by now two cafes and multiple toilet areas. The usual, good quality clothes, groceries etc. Would be a 4 but personally I am not keen on crowded shops.

Peter and Helen were very helpful upon purchasing my suit for a wedding was really happy as needed the help and they done there job well all while keeping my partner and child entertained thanks

  • Joanne Pedley

Always excellent service and produce in the food hall, especially the bakery. Quite pricey though. Love the clothes, especially the Christmas ones. Bit glitzy for me but I'm sure very popular x

  • Emiel van Rossum

Very reasonable priced store. I bought some jeans. The choice was good. The price was good. The fitting was very well considering the low price. The staff was also helpful!

  • Alan S. Morrison

One of the bigger stores - with TWO cafes! Very broad choice from the brand's product range. Worry the trip if you're keen to try on a few options. Friendly, helpful staff.

  • Amanda

What can I say about M&S? I Absolutely love the place and having a good look around each time I’m in town. I’d be absolutely distraught, If I didn’t have my M&S.

  • Fergus Mckie

My wife had an excellent experience of buying jeans today. 2 store assistants took time to find her the right style to suit her shape and she purchased 2 pairs!
