I have been taking my dog to Maroubra Vet for a long time. I have always spoken highly of the practice. However, I can no longer recommend this business. My husband took our dog for her annual discount dental clean (advertised by the vet every August ) + vaccinations which usually costs around $1000.00. We walked away with a bill of $2,212.00. After a blood test for $240.00 an arrogant, patronising and pushy female vet (not thorough) rang my husband to confidently say that the blood test indicated my dear dog had 'slightly' elevated fat levels and she had a 'potbelly' so she suspected cushings disease which is a very serious condition. The female vet advised my dog needed an ultrasound at a cost of $800.00. NOTE We subsequently requested our dog's file and the blood test was consistent with previous blood tests. Legally we were unable to obtain the file. That is a rort in itself. Naturally because my dog is my valuable companion I was in a vulnerable position and had to make a fast decision. However, I questioned the cost of the ultra sound being more costly than one that I might be required. The vet dismissed my questioning and stated the cost was higher because the dog had to have an anaesthetic - the reason being unlike humans the dog wouldn't keep still for the procedure. Both my husband and I were present during this telephone conversation with the speaker on and both of us spoke with the vet. I reject any assertion that this conversation did not take place. If my dog had cushings disease the vet claimed she couldn't have the dental clean because she couldn't have an anaesthetic for the teeth cleaning. Is that a contradiction? The final cost for the ultrasound was $512.00. I am staggered that the practice owner has responded and now asserts no anaesthetic was done for the ultrasound. The ultrasound combined with the blood test which was consistent with previous tests confirmed my dog was OK. I then received a second opinion that couldn't confirm either. I later read that the symptoms of cushings: increased thirst, increased urination, increased appetite, reduced activity, excessive panting, thin or fragile skin, hair loss, recurrent skin infections, enlargement of the abdomen, resulting in a "potbellied" appearance. I also discussed the matter with two friends whose dogs have the disease and the symptons in text book fashion. Apart from the elevated fat levels (which were not confirmed as to how elevated) my dog had no other symptoms peculiar to cushings disease in particular thin or fragile skin, recurrent skin conditions, hair loss or potbelly. A vet worth anything should be able to tell the difference between a potbelly and a naturally very hairy, stocky, strapping little mature dog in seal like condition. The vet didn't even mention the other symptoms. I felt pushed. What should have happened was do the teeth clean, then discuss concerns with us so we obtained all the information to make an informed decission not be pushed into something while the dog was literally lying on the table. I would not deal with that female vet again. I would advise you to ask for other vets at the practice. I suggest the practice owner discuss the facts around the ultrasound with the vet who rang us. My husband and I are not prone to fantasy. Any suggestion facts have been omitted is naughty. It was purely money grabbing and taking advantage of our love for our dog and our previously unquestioned loyalty to the practice. It is time the label of 'profession' was removed from association with vets. They are a business. Vets are business people. That's it.

It’s now been 6 months since my Sam passed away! It’s taken me this long to write this, I have been attending Maroubra Veterinary Hospital for 15 years. I have no words to express how thorough, professional and caring all of the staff here are. I do believe or should I say I know that my Sam got a bonus 3 years because of the care he received here after his diagnosis with liver disease! I owe this awesome 3 years to the fabulous Adam Gordon, the principal Veterinarian here, I seriously have him on a pedestal and he deserves to be there. I will never ever be able to thank him enough. He took phone calls from me when I was extremely worried at times and always made me feel reassured. His knowledge and compassion is a credit to him. He’s by far the best in the business. And this obviously shines through in his staff. What an amazing bunch of people, too many to name but every single one of them, nurses and veterinarians alike have helped Sam and I through difficult times. The knowledge and love they showed us on every single visit seriously astounded me. They are my heroes! ❤️ I have now got myself a new furbaby, MrChew and I would not dream of ever taking him to another clinic. He recently had a bout of Pancrestitis was attended to by Dr. James Lucia, he was fantastic, was on top of everything immediately, ordered the appropriate tests etc. MrChew was back home on the same day and the meds prescribed had him like new in days! ❤️ I am constantly singing the praises of Adam and his fabulous crew from the roof tops and have every reason too. I could not recommend a better veterinary hospital in Sydney or the world even!! ❤️❤️

We have been here before with no issues at all. All the formalities were discussed in the waiting room with the Vet ,that's where it all began until behind closed doors. We couldn't go in with our cat who was shaking in his portable carrier. Strange, all the previous owners before us had gone in with their pets to the same consultation room. WHY? Everyone could hear our cat screaming. We were asked to come in, our cat was hysterical ,no one could calm him. I can't examine him like that, he has been vaccinated. But he is still in his flexible carrier I thought, don't you normally take them out. Maybe the nurse should have helped. No advice was offered, no reason given to us for what unfolded about his behaviour. No information forth coming. He has NEVER been like this I said If our cat is picked for a fight he rolls onto his side. if bitten he runs, that's our cats temperament. Timid. WHY put an animal through that trauma. I wondered if the other Vet would have done it differently. There is a good Team of Vets and nurses here but it's a pity you can't see the same one. Mentally scarred, how do we take him to the Vet NOW.

friendly staff. went there twice, but my cat's condition didn't get improved. I should have phoned for consultation price before I went. it was twice expensive than other vet in the area. updating on 8/9/2021: after I post above review I was contacted by the business accusing my review is "absolutely false" and requesting me remove it within 48 hours or they will "seek legal advice regarding the defamatory imputations in our review". I then told them how much I was charged on my first vist and how much other vet charged. they then claiming the fee was "urgent consultation fee" which I wasn't told on the spot nor it was put on the tax invoice. I accept the charge as the service is done. but the way they communicated with me really makes me uncomfortable. It doesn't have to be so judgemental and aggressive when it's simply a miscommunication.

Unfortunately I can’t give 0 stars so 1 will do. Unprofessional and on numerous occasions they have put both my dogs at risk. First with complications after surgery, we returned to the vet on 3 occasions post surgery to be told that our dog was just a sook and would recover, thank god on the final visit they realised it wasn’t in fact fine and he was re operated on the next day. The latest incident is where we took our dog for an issue with licking, to find less than 2 hours later half of his tooth was cracked and missing that, despite being told he had a full consultation. Instead we were prescribed over $100 worth of medication he does not need. They will not refund and have instead decided to not return phone calls as promised.

Is this place under new management? Luckily we stopped going here. The staff are always under quoting on the phone then when you pay they add these other charges. It added up to $500 difference once. I’ve never confronted though as I think the reception staff are young but a little more training or asking the upper management prior to giving the price wouldn’t go astray. They try to add extra charges for extra tests, which I can understand but to a certain point is just taking the piss. I went to two other vets after for a second and third opinion and they agreed. I wouldn’t normally write a review like this but I am extremely disappointed at what this vet has turned into. I would not recommend this place to anybody.

It was so expensive and so stressfull time I had to take my Dying sick cat there. They quote me nearly $1000 for her to just book her in. Had no money had to ring family's to borrow $350 so I could get her check in. Thing is It doesn't cost that much. If you are in trouble all this vet's in Sydney take Advantage of you. I remember calling the manager next morning Maroubra vet if I could pick up my sick cat and pay the rest in few days she said no. Every day she stay there charges will go up. I had the worse experience in those 2 days. Until I put my cat was put Down. I look after my sick mum so I don't work . I'll never going to forget that worse experience

What a relief if was to visit with Maroubra Veterinary Hospital. The receptionist was warm and ever so helpful. My vet was thorough and gentle and listened to all my concerns. They really care about your pet and took time in the consult to check everything and ensure I understood what my next plan of action is . They consulted with the emergency vet and plan to call me tomorrow for an update. I wasn’t overcharged and the fees are affordable . Do not hesitate to take your beloved furry friend to this practice. Highly recommend ❤️

Since last Year i walk for the first time with my Jasmine i meet Dr.Adam Gordon look after her till the day i lost her & not to far apart i took my Tiffy i lost her too. Was so hard still is but meeting most the team so caring and kindness helpful. Now i have Ben & Charlie not a replacement but give their love too and removed from the street since both only 3 months old. Again i took they to Maroubra Vet Hospital happy to know all the Team are amazing to looking after my new family. Thank you all from my heart. Love Teresa

This vet clinic is the best in Sydney!! They have highly trained professionals who you can tell care for every animal and owner who comes into their clinic. My dog is very snappy and usually is fussy when at the vet or going for grooming. The Vet who treated my pup was very kind, cautious and understanding. They gave my pup the best treatment possible and were so reliable!! I will be returning here they are all so reliable and friendly. Why would I go anywhere else!!?

We are so happy to have our gorgeous little Louis back home after over 3 weeks at Maroubra Vet Hospital. Thanks to our supervet Adam Gordon who saved Louis after a terrible accident. If it was not for his amazing skill, expertise and experience Louis would not have survived. We are forever grateful to Adam and the dedicated team for their around the clock care of him, especially over Christmas. We still have a long way to go but Louis lives to meow another day!

Took my dog there for a examination than they told me my dog had this that this that asked the vet how much would it cost me than she told me it's not about the money she wanted to charge me after discounts for a biopsy $850 took my dog to another vet done it for $500 plus medication that's why it's not about the money so they get you all worried than charge you whatever they want. Thank god my wife was next to me seen straight through her. Never again.

Our Chloe is 12 and has been very well looked after by Maroubra veterinary hospital since she was a very young pup. She has had a couple of overnight stays over the years, one that lasted a few days that was very stressful - although the compassion, empathy and communication offered was second to none. A professional, caring and diligent team. Facilities and hygienic, and the team go above and beyond to help in any way, shape or form.

Firstly thanks so much to the lovely Ari for fitting my very sick dog Jax in on a busy Saturday- so sweet, kind and helpful. Thank you to Dr Adam for taking such good care of Jaxy. Dr Adam is an amazing vet, explained everything in detail and was so kind and caring. Thanks to Dr Adam and the team Jax is back to his cheeky and energetic self. We will definitely be back (hopefully just for yearly vaccinations next time)!

Wasn't unwilling to assist us over the phone when our dog was in distress. It was a simple issue requiring simple answers. I explained that we had no finances that day or any transportation and I felt that their interest was not for our dog. I understand they r a business and often things can't be done over the phone but this was not one of those times and this was clearly demonstrated by the vet that did assist us.

All the staff at this vet are amazing, caring and very kind. They were always so helpful to our dog and fit him in whenever he needed, they gave the best advice and it was always so well communicated. When we had to put our boxer of 12 years down we received a hand written and which was so considerate and special. We highly recommend Maroubra Veterinary Hospital for any of your animals needs.

Charges me 1030$ for one day of tests. Only a few hours and some medication....then asked for another 1300$ when they already Did the tests they wanted another 1300 to do more checks. Just brought my dog to green cross vet's highly recommend as they only charged me 700$ for the surgery and medicine and ultrasound Don't go to to maroubra vet's they cheat you and only care about Money

I attended Maroubra Vet Hospital yesterday with my groodle. We were both welcomed into a clean-smelling waiting room by the receptionist. We were taken into see the vet within 5 minutes of arriving. The vet listened carefully to my dog’s symptoms, and explained the treatment and medications very clearly. I’m happy to call this vet hospital our local.

I strongly recommend this clinic! James is such a good professional! He looked after my Fiona (cat) many times since I adopted her. He is kind and always ready to help and answer our (thousand) questions. All the staff is friendly and they professionally remind us about the vaccines and procedures we need to do in order to keep our pets healthy.

James, Adam, Ana and the whole team at Maroubra Vet are professional and so lovely to our fur babies. We have been coming here for so many years and I would not trust my fur children with anyone else. MVH has been our vet clinic for 5 years for our dog Peppa. I trust them and so I always recommend them to friends when asked where she goes. Adam is amazing, he gives our dog shots without her evening knowing it has happened. All of the vets and nurses there are so caring and have my confidence, it is a top quality practice.

The staff is friendly which is why I gave it a 2 star, but they are overcharging. We took our dog there and they tried to charge over 1000 dollar more than another vet for the same job. So we will never go back there again. And consultation is ridiculously expensive compared to other vets. Lesson learned!

My dog Esco loves coming in for his check ups and the Vets and Receptionist here are always friendly and helpful. I have found that if I call the day before I can usually get him in for a booking the next day and they are quite flexible with time and dates. Highly recommended :)

I have taken my pets to this hospital for many years and have always been happy with the staff and the level of service provided. The hospital is open 7 days and I have never had any difficulties in getting an appointment. They also run classes for puppies which are great.

You never get to see the same vet when you go there which is a shame. They’ve messed up a few times and barely apologised for it... I think they are hungry for money and won’t bring my pet to them anymore.
