We went here on a Sunday for the Barrio Arts Fest. They are normally closed on Sundays so this was a treat, as every time we go past this location, it seems like they are closed because I never see any cars in the parking lot or any activity of any kind. Their hours are Tuesday through Friday 10 to 5 and Saturdays from 10 to 2. And they do have a free parking lot in the back. The sign outside says this is the national museum of Puerto Rican arts and culture. The building itself is fantastic, in fact that's the best part of the museum. This building has undergone a major renovation and it was well worth it. However the art inside the building is sparse and very little to speak of. On the first floor they had an exhibit by Oscar Lopez Rivera and not much else. Large rooms with hardly anything in them, I don't think that this building is being used to a it's full potential. On the second floor they had an exhibit of poetic science which is an artistic scientific approximation about El Yunque however it was closed on the day that we visited because of the Art Festival. The supervisor told us that they did not have enough employees working that day to open the second floor. Now that I know that they actually are open and the hours that they are open, I will return on another day to check out the second floor.

Beautiful place. It is a small museum, but free and cute it has different rooms representing different things of puerto rican culture. I attached one image that I absolutely loved and the view of the pond which is right next door. I went with a friend and there was not a lot of people there which I love for my social issues with crowds we went on a school day maybe that is why it wasn't busy. My friend and I were able to be silly and dance in the drum room there was music playing and we tried to dance a bit(there is open space so you wouldn't bump into anything if you dance). Would I go every day no. But I could go as a yearly thing or maybe an event. Near by they have food trucks with latino food its in humboldt park so there is a lot of latino culture there so you can get a glimpse of the puerto ricans inside the museum and when you go out can experience it even better with the food and the people.

I attended the book launch of Las Madres by renowned and beloved Puerto Rican author Esmeralda Santiago. This special event required paid tickets. NMPRAC's staff warmly welcomed attendees and worked diligently to check us in, give us a signed copy of the book (included with admission), and guide us to the reception area prior to the engagement with the author. The small plates from Big Delicious Planet and refreshments were delicious! The event was emceed by WGN News Ana Belaval. The conversation was delightful. After the event, attendees had a chance to pose for pictures with Santiago. This was a beautiful and memorable event held in a gorgeous space celebrating Puerto Rican culture and community. Please visit NMPRAC and support neighborhood museums!

Love it here! Was a second visit punctuated by a chance to meet and speak directly with the artist in residence for the "semillas" exhibit. To be able to witness my cousin (a PR resident and native) and the artist discuss the situation in PR and the stories behind the paintings was unprecedented and likely never to be repeated. The semillas exhibit must be seen before it's gone. Don't miss your chance. The grounds are so appropriate for the experience - right down to the coqui sounds at the outdoor mural. This museum is clearly managed and staffed by caring and motivated people who understand the importance of Puerto Rico's story and footprint in world history.

Absolutely disappointed with the organization and service of the Puerto Rican Museum do not bother having an event at this Museum they don’t abide by the contract the Director is not informative and can never answer a question. The whole idea was to have my guest enjoy the exhibit and we were told no guest were allowed in the gallery when they initially told us it was ok. The icing on the cake was when the event was done the security, that we did not see all night and paid for there security service came into the venue like thugs to lock up the venue. This was an embarrassment. You tried to give back to the community and you get the worst service ever. DO NOT RENT THIS VENUE FOR AN EVENT YOU WILL BE DISAPPOINTED. Shame on you Puerto Rican committee such a disappointment.

On my visit to Chicago I wanted to make it a point to leave the downtown area and explore. What better option then to explore a museum that holds history of my homeland and the historic significance of Chicago and Puerto Ricans. The museum was beautiful and the staff was so friendly. The desire and excitement to share the museum. The artwork is beautiful and the surrounding area was phenomenal. I recommend making your way out and learning about the PR culture and the impact it has on a beautiful community just outside the downtown area.

  • Jillian Eve

We had a GREAT time at the museum and connecting to our cultura. The staff were super friendly and knowledgeable about the museum, neighborhood, and PR history in Chicago. After seeing the current exhibit, we went to the gift shop and met a wonderful staff member named Alyssa! She recommended some really great shops and restaurants to check out in Humboldt Park, and we spent THE ENTIRE day dancing, eating, and hanging out on Division while getting to know some of the business owners there. Highly recommend visiting the museum!

Thursday at The National Puerto Rican Museum. It was an honor to spend time with so many amazing people. We got to meet and greet Omi, from Next Level Chef. Better know as Cooking with Omi on social media. Her girls Rebecca and Ivelisse I truly recommend visiting the Museum, there's beautiful art gallery and countless others projects. Thank you Billy Ocasio for your dedication to our Puerto Rican Root.

This IS THE USA’s National Museum of Puerto Rican Arts & Culture. Attended with a group, had a history & artistic tour of the facilities. I had no idea there had been a key Puerto Rican artist leading the Impressionist Movement in Paris. Nor, that the Humboldt Park area had the influence of the Swede settlers, nor the impact Jens Jensen had on our Park system. Thought provoking and beauty in the eye of the beholder experience.

  • Jennifer Rodriguez

Such a great museum, the artwork is great. I would recommend checking out what exhibits they have on their website before coming. Admission is free and you just have to fill out a Google Form when you walk in. For a Saturday, it was pretty relaxing even got to meet one of the artists and explain indetail of his exhibit. Would love to return! The staff is also very nice and welcoming.

Small Museum. Free entry. Can cover in under two hours. It just covers 3 topics. I suppose that's all there is room for. The second floor contains old movie posters. The movies themselves seem to be about social inequality, oppression and health issues. First floor contains the history of the park that the Museum is situated in. Then there are colorful banners that speak of Bomba music. I don't know if the gallery displays change but I hope that more resources are pulled together.

This once old stable has been converted into the Puerto Rican art museum. It is simply stunning and the artwork depicting Puerto Rican history and creativity is simply delightful. The structure itself is a work of art that you just must see. The staff is knowledgeable and welcoming. If you've not been, please go. It is one of the best cultural museums I've seen in Chicago.

The last time I was at this museum, it was a cold and rainy day. Today I came back for the Barrio Arts Festival and the sun was shining. Humboldt Park is beautiful, and the vendors couldn't have been more warm and welcoming. There was a wide variety of creative and high quality arts and crafts. A live band played Latin music and I felt like I was on vacation just a few minutes from home. With so many festivals in Chicago, this one is a breath of fresh air.

  • Warren Conatser Echevarria

I'm glad this exists and it often has interesting and important exhibits. The gift shop always has good stuff and the Barrio Fest during the Summer is one of my favorite events. My only complaint is that I wish there was more in this museum. Compared to the Mexican museum in Pilsen it is pretty sparse. I assume this is because they receive much less funding and interest than the Mexican museum and are in a much smaller building.

  • richard karwowski

I attended a public meeting about this place stealing land from Humboldt park. One man in charge apologized for getting caught and said the Building that was being built illegally would be torn down. This only happened because the community demanded the illegal building to be removed and they were caught.

Love, love this space! We had our daughter's Quinceanera in the main gallery which comfortably fit about 80 people. It was such a beautiful space. The staff was so accommodating and responsive. I like that there is onsite parking for all the guests. If you are looking for a reasonably priced, beautiful venue, then I highly recommend the Museum of PR Arts & Culture.

I had my wedding here on July 22 2017. Yesica worked with me and answered all my questions and even let me have the doors open a little earlier for set up. The staff onsite did an amazing job! Everyone kept commenting on how beautiful they thought the facility was. I would definitely use it again for events!!! I would definitely recommend this site as a place for weddings!! Very clean and beautiful!!

A very nice change from the downtown/ Magnificent Mile tourist activities. And it's free! Elias welcomed us and answered our many questions. You can tell he is passionate about the museum. The exhibits are varied and spread out across several galleries.

Free parking on premises. I visited the museum to take photographs and learn about Humboldt Park's history. Air conditioned facility with clean restrooms and helpful staff. While you are in the area, take time to walk around Humboldt Park. Depending what month you go, you may even get to do a little bird watching as birds migrate and nest.

  • Kaitlin Hampton

The staff here are wonderful. We discussed the art and the Puerto Rican culture and they shared stories. It was awesome. Thoroughly enjoyed, definitely recommend. Will most likely return on a future Chicago trip.

A wonderful gallery space that honors Humboldt Park's Puerto Rican heritage. The museum also features a wonderful exhibit on the history of the park itself and its designer Jens Jensen, who operated out of the building (an old German-style stable house) as his office during the time that he looked over the park.

This museum is cute and quaint. I love the plena room! It's a small museum so you can get through it in one - two hours. But it's packed with interesting information on the history of Puerto Rico. We weren't charged to enter. I highly recommend this place, especially if you are Puertorican!

  • Enrique Salgado Jr.

Wonderful venue, exhibitions and staff. Seeing 200+ ur old art that has never left the island up close and personal was amazing. Also with the Modern Contemporary art, getting to hear from the artist was a wonderful thought provoking experience. Highly recommended to become a member. More

This is the only museum about Puerto Rican art in the United States outside of Puerto Rico. It's in a small venue, but located inside the former Humboldt Park Receptory Building and Stable - a two-floor Chicago Landmark built in 1895-96, some 120-plus years ago!

  • Tara Perez

It's a beautiful place. However, I found it rather empty. It needs more art and lacking information/stories behind the art pieces and artists. The art, sculptures and science exhibits are exceptionally brilliant...stunning!

Took a cab here on a Monday during Chicago Museum Week and they weren't even open from 9-4 as listed on Google maps. If they are now closed Mondays Someone needs to update their hours of operation. Very disappointed.
