A lot of gaslighting and disorganization: I had the worse customer experience here. Please take your business elsewhere. I had called to use the warranty which I pay into, I got a quote from the warranty plan that I pay for through a third party of Hyundai. After I agreed to taking my business at Newmans with the understanding and the written agreement of what the warranty would cover, the paperwork vanished when I went to get my car four days later. Part of the reason my car was there for four days was to wait for the warranty to be in effect with 2 of the days waiting for the person to confirm I needed the repairs in my car and that it would be covered-which did happen. However, the price changed 1000s of dollars from 1100 to 5K plus when I went to pick it up. None of his staff was aware of the written agreement I had with the shop-owner, the delay in receiving my car back related to having the warranty person coming out, and there was no paperwork they could find after I had spent 5 hours filling it out four days earlier and being on the phone arranging this all, (and I had an appointment made-not a walk-in). I had to advocate to get my car back bc the price difference was 4K and what was not what I had signed off on. Myself and my dad dedicated a lot of our personal time to get the matters sorted out. The owner owed me money from me being overcharged, over 400 dollars. I had to go pick up the check. He did not take accountability for any of it and told me how much he did for me after I and my dad did so much of the admin work. Doing business with him has taken away from my time and attention with other things since there was so much mis-management regarding 1,000's of dollars in repairs. After this he told me my reality was not reality with refusing to take ownerships of where he had dropped the ball several times as listed above and of the hard-work my father and I did on our ends to correct the disorganization and lack of communication between his staff, me, and the warranty plan dealers, a warranty plan I pay into in which Newman still gets paid for. He was not apologetic for not talking to his staff and giving them the information of how to be appropriately charged with more than 3 staff members having no idea of the agreement upon picking my car up. Please take your business elsewhere because he is not trustworthy and he says one thing, does another, and then he tells you a new truth saying that was the agreement, (gaslighting). My car was there for four days, and it would have been 7 if I hadn't diligently advocated for myself to have my car released. There were not any loaner cars and he did not reimburse the lyft rides I had to take after so many balls being dropped over his disorganization. He told me how it was a privilege to have that reimbursed and how other auto-repair places do not do that but with a simple google, search, I found the contrary. There was a lot of gaslighting with him denying the facts and he was talking down to me. As a woman, it is frustrating taking your car into places of people, like him, who want to take advantage of you and your finances along with suggesting repairs too that are unnecessary. If there wasn't eyes on it I would of either A) spent money, 5K plus, in things I DO have covered under my warranty- so make the phone call to find out for yourself- do not trust what anyone says until you know for yourself, B) Double-dip being paid by me and the warranty center, no wonder a representative wanted to go out to ensure that the work was necessary if they have done business with him in the past, C) Paying 4K more than agreed upon to 'maybe' get it back after there has been no trust built on the actions taken and the paperwork filled out being missing in hopes that he would give it to me.

The service and customer experience was absolutely horrific to say the very least. We were recommended Newman’s and even though we are at Fort Hood we decided the drive would be worth it for a “trustworthy” mechanic. Sadly trustworthy is the last word I’d ever use to describe this place. We took our car in with a simple main complaint of A/C. It’s 105 degrees on a good day in Texas and we simply needed it fixed. After a few days of our car being in their shop, we were told they would not fix the A/C until another repair was first done. No problem, we gave our permission for them to have the problem they found fixed. At this time our car has been there a week. We get a call saying it’s ready to go, but when we asked about the A/C they said they did not fix it. We told them that was the reason for us bringing it in and that it needed to be done. We were then told they would flush and recharge it (something along those lines - I am no mechanic so hang with me). He said if that did not fix it, they would move to the next steps. This was only going to “take a day” so every single day for the next week, we called asking if it was ready and kept getting blown off. Finally 3 weeks of our car being in the shop and over 2 grand (YES $2K!!!!) we were told it was ready for pick up so we took the 1.5 hr drive to get it and what do you know, they never even fixed the A/C Coincidentally they had us pay for it before being shown the car so we didn’t find out until after we paid, got the car back, tried it out and it was blowing hot still but with a new awful noise that wasn’t there before it was in their care YAY. They insured me though it was just miscommunication (even though they handed us a paper at check out that stated our main concern at the time of dropping off our vehicle was to have the air fixed, we told them after the 1st time they tried to say the car was ready that no - the A/C needs to be fixed, I talked on the phone with a mechanic on two separate occasions about fixing it and our options, and I’m sure my husband spoke with them about it too) it wasn’t miscommunication it was simply BAD BUSINESS laziness and greed. They wanted another 3K to fix the A/C which I will gladly do if need be but not with them. I will never do business with them again, will always recommend people not go there, if I could give zero stars I would. I’ve never seen such unprofessionalism and the lady who works the front should be fired. She hangs up on customers, is rude and unprofessional and frankly not good at whatever her job is. I was even told they would notify Mr. Newman, the owner i assume, about the problems and have him call me. That has yet to happen and I highly doubt it will but I would love to share my experience with him. **UPDATE got a second opinion mainly because I still had to get my car fixed since Newman’s failed to do it, I showed the mechanic my bill and they LAUGHED at how much Newman’s charged. Laughed. That says a lot when they claim to have such amazing prices and not be greedy.

Be weary of this business. They charge a diagnostic fee (close to $200) to even see the car in the first place, then they charge for the repair separately. Unfortunately, they do not take any accountability when their repairs do not fix the issue with the car, they just keep charging diagnostic fees and separate repair fees. Basically all they’re doing is exploring possibilities and expecting you to pour money into their business explorations. I came to them because my check engine light was on, paid the diagnostic and repair (over $500) just for the light to come on AGAIN, went back again and was still expected to pay for a diagnostic and a repair, although the guy at the front desk admitted to me that they did not do a good job on the repair, so if it’s the same problem, warranty can cover the repair. Although, he tells me he still sees a small problem with their repair (still i slight misfire they were supposed to fix), I was still expected to pay over $400 for another repair, and you guessed it, it did not fix the issue. Check engine still on yet they smiled in face and still expected me to pay them. I am just writing this review so others can be weary. Imagine being a college student trying to scrape up this money because how you make money is through ride sharing and delivering, just for them to basically steal it from you. Please be weary. These people do not fix cars, they just entertain possibilities all while expecting you to pay them through it. Terrible -0/10. 0 stars!

My car randomly stopped on the road and started smoking. Took it to this place because it seemed like a nice local business. The people here are perfectly nice, and I believe they do genuinely care about their customers, but I wasn’t fully satisfied with their service. I was first informed that they had to put a brand new belt on my car before doing anything else because mine was busted. Giving me the impression that the broken one very well might have been the only issue, I signed off on this… only for them to call me up again later claiming that I would need a whole new engine and that it would cost a couple thousand for the parts and labor. I decided that at this point it wasn’t worth it and that I would rather just junk it. (It was an old car anyway and I knew it wasn’t going to last forever.) I asked them if they had anyone they recommend for this and they put me in contact with someone who rescheduled so many times that eventually I got fed up and decided to just cancel with him and try to find someone else. I’m not happy with being charged for something that didn’t even fix my issue, but I know it was an old car and only so much could be done anyway. Overall, I think this place is okay, I just had an unlucky experience.

Steer clear of this place! I brought my 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee in for a check engine light that had come on. I left my car with them for three weeks as they tried to figure out the problem. Had to call continuously for an update. Ended up paying a lot of $$$ and the issue was never resolved. I drove off their lot with a check engine light still on. Took the car to two different mechanics after and BOTH of them figured out the issue within 30 minutes. Turns out the issue is covered under warranty!!! So I paid an arm and a leg for something that should have cost me $0. Took it to the dealer and it was fixed for free in two days. After reviewing the work they did, I now know that they double charged and over charged me for several things. Bottom line, they are either incompetent or they purposefully ripped me off. More likely the second after talking with several other mechanics from different repair shops. I felt stupid for falling for it and am still very upset about it all these months later. Do NOT take your car here! Untrustworthy!

Do not trust your car to this place. Horrible experience. I went here because I wanted to support a local, family business. Mistake. They had my Lexus for months trying to replace the hybrid battery and struts. First time I picked up my car, it still had so many problems. Died in the road while driving! Took it back. They claimed the battery was faulty and they had to get another. Waited forever with me calling them for updates. This was during pandemic so I gave them the benefit of the doubt and was patient. Mistake. My car wobbles from 40-50mph and never did before this. I feel so taken advantage of for my trust, patience and hard earned money. Today, one of the struts or shocks they replaced popped through! See photos. This is so unsafe! I’m so upset. What did these people do to my car?! I’m going back to certified technicians to repair the very expensive, very poor work this place did. Only thing you should take here is your attorney, not your car.

Wow, is all I have to say. Our paving crew was in Austin, traveling from Dallas and had truck problems. After calling multiple shops about what I thought was a rear axle seal problem, and having multiple shops tell me they couldn’t help or have our F350 dually up and running in the time frame we needed, Traci Bearden answered the phone at Newman Automotive. She said her team could take care of us. Not only did she deliver on her promise, but she and the team at Newman expedited our repair and got us back on the road the same day! They’re honest and efficient. They’re so good all of the other shops I was calling recommending them. If you know anything about the mechanic business, you know these are hard traits to come by. I cannot recommend Newman Automotive enough! “Above and beyond” doesn’t adequately describe the customer service they value here!!!

My car was running on reduced power and stalling often so I had a diagnostic ran by a mobile mechanic on a Friday and he confirmed I would need timing chain replaced. I took my car to Newman’s the following Monday and not only did they try to charge an outrageous amount of money for a “new” engine ($12K to put in a $800, USED engine), they managed to make my car run worse! When I came to pick it up, I was told the car would not start for them. How did that happen over 2 days?? When I started it, the engine was so loud it was as if stuff was just flying around in there. I wouldn’t trust this shop with ANY vehicle and they didn’t even do any actual work on mine. At least they’re nice to your face?

While the staff was very polite, my car was at Newman's Automotive for almost 2 weeks before it was returned to me and at every turn I was upsold for repairs and fixes I did not really need: trying to charge an extra $3000 in unnecessary repairs. When I came to pick my car up they tried to charge me an extra $400 for parts that were not even used in the repair and only deducted the amount of $400 when I pointed it out. Not only that, but the repairs I did pay for were not done properly and not even 3 weeks after picking my car up I had to take it to a different mechanic to repeat the exact same repairs for less time and less money.

We have been going to Newman's for about 15 years, and unfortunately, it is time for us to find a new mechanic. The attention to detail that Newman used to bring to his services is no longer there. We took a car in to diagnose and fix an issue with it not starting and ended up spending hundreds of dollars for the mechanics to diagnose (or misdiagnose) the issue and replace parts that ultimately were not the root cause of the problem. Prices have jumped significantly and the shop has lost the feeling of the neighborhood mechanic that we used to love.

I took my car to Newman's because my AC wasn't working. They did an in depth inspection of my car and found some other maintenance issues that needed to be addressed immediately. Although some may view this as them trying to get as much money out of me as possible, I was really grateful that they did it. I sent the photos they sent to me to my dad (who is a mechanic) and he agreed with their assessments. They were also very honest about what needed to be addressed immediately and what could wait. I feel much safer in my car, and my AC is ICE COLD!!

I was locked out of my car and needed help getting access back into the vehicle. The shop told me they would charge me a few bucks just to run me through the system and have me sign a liability form, fine I did it. Come to find out I was charged $35 for a 45 second job. I asked the manager why the discrepancy, he said I could either call a locksmith or have him do it. He obviously saw I was in a tough spot and exploited the situation. They are $30 richer, but thousands of dollars of future business poorer from me.

This was the best experience I have had with car repair. We had our car towed from another shop that was not figuring out what was wrong with the car. I went out on a limb and sent my car there with me never meeting or being at the location. When I called to see about sending the car there. I told them what the car was doing. I was told sounds like the transmission. That was impressive because other shop could not figure it out after 3 days of having it. I will be taking my other 2 cars there need repairs.

Was able to get my vehicle inspection done pretty quickly, and the staff were amazing and super helpful. The inspection went smoothly. They gave me a list of priorities for possible repairs later on, without pushing me to do them in any timeframe. I don’t know if I’ve ever been treated as kindly by a business as I was by these guys. By the time I left, I felt like I’d made a few friends. It’s not a cheap garage, but they don’t claim to be one. I’ll pay a little more to feel like the shop genuinely cares about my car, which I rely on to earn a living. Also they listen to great music in the shop, and the shop dog Linus is super nice. I had taken my car to other mechanics who couldn't figure out what was wrong with it. Kyle was so straightforward and friendly, he called me as soon as they figured out the problem, gave me an estimate that he ended up discounting, and when the car took an extra day to repair he called and told me immediately. It took a week for them to find the simplest diagnostic. They charged me $200 to tighten a couple screws. I had to call several times to see what was going on with my vehicle. They didn’t even update me at all through the process and I had to call to see if they were even done with my car. If I didn’t call my car would’ve just been sitting there longer. Wouldn’t recommend going to this autobody shop at all.

This place is great! Standard waiting time but they are pretty punctual for the most part. SUPER friendly staff and there’s a cute schnauzer you can pet named Linus while you wait!
