I was looking for 700 23c foldable Continental SuperSport Pluses and they only had Specialized Armadillo Elites. I liked how they didn't try and talk me into another tire like another shop did. I didn't like how they didn't have my first or second choice tire: same tire I got except NOT the Elite which is lighter but unreasonable more expensive considering my main activity is commuting. I liked how they were honest in explaining why I have trouble finding my tires in town, in stock: because these small shops are constantly trying to compete with online retailers who undercut local prices. I didn't like how the girl didn't seem to speak from experience in telling me the tires I wanted would give me a harsher ride than the Continental UltraSports I had, which I had read long before walking in their shop. After 100 miles, I can say the ride IS harsher but we're talking princess and the pea harsher. You have to try hard just to notice the small ways it's harsher, a harshness that was overstated in my opinion. Overall a good experience, but I am an young avid cyclists, male, knew what i wanted, and the sales person was a youthful female. I can't help but wonder if what would have happened if I was a young newbie and the sales person a male seasoned veteran. I've witnessed at many shops how newcomers walk away feeling marginalized after dealing with rather caustic sales persons more concerned with CAT5 semi pro time trials than helping boost our numbers on the steets by welcoming newcomers into the fold.
NOT A GOOD EXPERIENCE..... So I called the store to discuss ordering a bike that I was going to order online from the factory ... I was asking them if they would make money on it as I want to support the local shop...and wanted to find out if there was problems what would happen...so....Bike was specialized brand btw, and i was repeatedly asked to come in to store... I told them there was no reason to as they didn't have the bike in stock. I was told they may have it in stock in warehouse and they were going to check and call me back shortly..I told them I was worried that the factory would sell out of this bike and to I wanted to get it on order ,again they insisted I order through them so they could make more money on it basically...I waited for a couple hours for them to call so I called another one of the same stores in Orange Park they to told me they would call me back unfortunately while waiting on this the factory sold out of their last bikes to say I was upset is an understatement and the fact that neither store called me back this was a bike that cost a $1000. I understand the weekends are busy but I was literally going out of my way trying to keep the dollars local and now I cannot get the bike that I wanted for 3 months to say this store's service was the ultimate fail is a gross understatement. UPDATE... It is the day after, and neither store called. They both have my number btw. 2 days later, still no call.
All of the workers at EVERY store were beyond insulting and rude to me. The Fleming Island store was so bad I actually drove to the St. Johns store to buy from them. They messed up my order (and where rude to me when I inquired about my bike) and it ended up at the Fleming Island store (where I got more RUDE comments with the horrible man that works there)- then the Hendricks store after that. I finally get to the Hendricks store (10 days after I order the bike) and I asked for them to call the owner so I could talk to him about the Fleming Island store owner they told me "he doesn't have a cellphone" and laughed at me - such liars!! After, the workers were so insulting, condescending, deceptive, rude, and mean to me I demanded my money back. Right after leaving I bought a MUCH better bike with far superior service at "City Cycle". Four of my friends who are in the market for a new bike have said they will never set foot into Open Road Bicycles after what happened to me - and they are buying their bikes elsewhere. I can not believe how awful I was treated at every store. I have been a serious road biker for many years and have just stepped into mountain biking after a two year setback due to an accident. This business will never see a dime of my money and I will be sure to let everyone know how they treat their customers. This store and the people who run it disgust me. They give cyclists a bad name.
Fantastic store! The owner was so helpful and accommodating. I was visiting from out-of-town and didn't have a cross-body shoulder bag to ride with. I rented a bike and he lent me his own bag to carry for the day! I got a Specialized step-through "comfy bike" and it was all tuned and ready to go when I picked it up. His sales associate took the time to go online with me and look at the Jacksonville area for places to eat/shop/ride. She told me to stop at any of their stores along the way if I needed help. The bike came with a lock to use and the price was unbeatable for the day's rental. My whole experience was so great, I wished this store was in my neighborhood. Thanks so much for a ride!
This is my favorite place to go for anything bike-related. I've been commuting to work on my bike for a few years now and I've been very "learn-as-you-go" about it so far. The people at Open Road never make me feel awkward about not being knowledgeable, and they are great about answering questions. I stopped in first thing this morning on my way to work to inquire about new wheels & tires, and they told me they could have everything installed for me in 15 minutes. They even offered to store my old wheels for me until I could come back by in my car and pick them up. I definitely suggest trying these guys out. You won't be disappointed.
Great price on a bike. I'm military and bought a turbo Vado 6.0 there about three weeks ago. They gave me the best price anywhere. I checked in a number of shops in Florida, Georgia and South Carolina. It's not an inexpensive bike. The price in this shop was not just a little better, no one else was even in the ball park. I found everyone to be pleasant and helpful. There was a software issue with the bike (not the shops fault) and they worked through it with Specialized quickly. I have not had any mechanical work done there yet. Will be back in for the new bike tune up in a few weeks. An easy 5 star.
I purchased a Specialized Allez from Open Road in Miramar back in 2006. It was my first road bike and the staff was extremely helpful and consultative. I have put a lot of miles on the bike since and live further away from the shop. I had been having my bike serviced closer to the house with ok experiences. Recently I ran into an issue an issue where I wanted to have someone that works on Specialized bikes have a look. I could not have been happier with that decision. Despite the drive, I will be doing all my road bike shopping and service purchasing at Open Road in the future.
I had my back tire completely bent and needed a new tire all together I was fine paying whatever but extra Labor was added on for things i didn't ask for like my front brakes. I ended up spending $91, I needed the bike for a event happening that weekend and when i went my chain completely slipped and would not push the bike in the end i had to cancel the event I wish they would have test ride my bike before sending me off because the chain was never a problem from the beginning. I do not wish to go back because of the distance but the new wheel looks good.
I'm just in Jax for a few days, and wanted to get some riding in while here. I stumbled across Open Road after a recommendation from another bike store. Not all Open Road stores do rentals, so had to go to the one in San Marco. The guys there are fantastic! Really friendly and chatty, and eager to help me out, working with me to ensure I got the rental I wanted and needed. A great bike too (Specialized Allez), in great condition, and a great price (certainly much better than another store found in Jax). Thanks guys! I thoroughly recommend you to anyone.
First time in and it won't be my last. The mark of a great bike shop is a crew of able mechanics that don't mind answering questions - and this place has that. Fantastic group of kind and helpful people. The prices are great - even better than internet prices when you consider there is no shipping and no waiting involved. The selection of bikes is really spot on. Good variety of different types, styles, and levels of each brand. I highly recommend this shop!
I have been shopping with these guys since they opened in 1993. Bought at least 4 racing bikes and many thousands of dollars in wheels, tires, chains, cables, handlebars, stems, seatposts, saddles, lights, etc. They know their industry and their machines. Owners have literally lived on their bikes their whole lives. Oh and if you want to smack talk some, there might be someone there to help you with that too! :)
Scott and staff are very accommodating and detail-oriented mechanics. Took them my practically-brand-new Canyon recently to address an issue. Canyon is direct-to-buyer, so understandably, not all shops are excited about working on them. They communicated with me openly about the problem and came up with a solution despite the incompetence of Canyon’s reps. Highly recommend this shop.
I’m visiting from out of town and when I reassembled my bike from the travel bag it was all misaligned. These guys gave me an excellent Di2 tune and adjustment day of, and a ton of great info on local rides for the next couple of weeks while we’re here. Great shop, friendly service, and they seem to really care about the cycling community. Highly recommend.
Bought my bike from this place about three years ago, brought it in to get the rear derailer upgraded and when I went to pick it up the next day they had cleaned, tuned up and had the bike running like new.. only charged me for parts. You don’t get free tuneups if you order from a website. This place is great and people are very nice.
Excellent service—-first time customer, would certainly go back. We were in a car accident on our way to go biking on vacation, and they quickly repaired the damage and tossed in cleaning it for free. Ready to hit the trails, The TX family feeling warmly welcomed by the locals after a rough drive in. Thanks guys!
A classy 5 star operation all the way. Good products, service and courteous followup to resolve any issues. Very knowledgable technicians that get things right the first time and have the professional experience to get you on the right equipment at the best price. A pleasure to do business with.
I went to this store March 4th just to see if my Cannondale bike could be fixed and someone, I believe by the name of Scott, was extremely helpful. He went above and beyond to help me get my bike ready. I’m very happy with everything he did and how my bike turned out. Thank you very much!
Went in to look at Diverge gravel bike. When we asked staff, they said “yea they are right above you” but despite waiting and looking up (where they could not be reached), they never offered any further help. Never encountered such unhelpful staff at bike shop. Would not recommend!!!
This is just one of many locations. The staff is very helpful and knowledgeable. They can work on just about any bike and have where you can buy parts, accessories, apparel and of course bikes. They also do group rides from here. Call ahead to find out the times.
We had a emergency and the tire went flat. He didn have the wallet on him and they took the payment over the phone.(Thank God) Got to the bike in a timely fashion and had everything quick and handled! Back on the road in no time. Excellent customer service!
I'm not a great biker, just trying to get in shape. So my hand me down bike was hard to ride & I let it go for many years. Wow, it looks new and they fit it to me. It rides like a dream. Inexpensive and worth more. They are Great. Don't hesitate to go here.
Great service and friendly staff, came in the shop to have a new saddle installed and they were fast and very helpful the gentleman was also able to help me find a new helmet , left very happy will continue to come back to this shop in the future.
Good shop but did not enjoy interacting with the sexist guys that work there. Felt like I was being subjugated for not being a bicycle connoisseur, and that my femininity was to blame. Would not recommend for anyone that is not an expert.
I have an old Specialized Cruz Crossroad from 1995. I needed new tires and a tune up. My brakes were gone. The rates were reasonable and the work was done very well. My bike now rides like new. I was very impressed by this shop.
Best service ever! I have been looking for a bike for months with no luck. Yesterday I found the perfect bike just for what I needed. No pushy sales here! I will definitely be coming back for all my bike needs!!
Great crew here! Everyone was so helpful and patient with me as I picked out my bike and they customized it to fit my needs. I would only go this shop for all my bike needs. Could not recommend them more!
Went here to have them checkout my roommates bike. Told us exactly what was wrong with it and what it would cost to have it fixed. Friendly and professional service from the staff here. We will be back.
Great shop, these guys are wonderful, professional, and really care about your bike stuff especially Scott. Very nice and very knowledgeable. I came from Savannah to see them and it was worth the trip.
This store was so great! I went to many bike shops in Jacksonville and this one outdid them all. Great selection, helpful and friendly staff.. this one is the real deal. Highly recommend!
Bought a high-end (to me, anyway) road bike here, and I couldn't be happier with the service, assembly, and accommodations they made for me. Very personal service and quality products.
Each time I’ve called in the last week the same guy answered the phone and is very short with me and this last call he pretty much hung up on me. Just lost my business that’s for sure.
Rented a bike from this place two weekends ago. Great customer service, renting again this weekend! I'll be purchasing a bike from there very soon!! I loved Scott's positive energy!
Great service they keep my bike going this place is really good you need tires they have them bite needs worked on they can fix it one of the best bike shops I've ever been to
OpenRoad truly redefined full service for us. Specialized is fortunate to have professional and trusting folks such as OpenRoad owners to represent and support their brand.
A good neighborhood bicycle shop. Good selection of quality bikes, and they provide excellent repair and maintenance service Open Road sponsor group rides during the week.
Shop is well stocked with a wide range of bicycles, gear and clothing. Staff is knowledgeable and will help you find what fits your needs. Best shop in Jacksonville.
First class shop...front and back! I have been renting for several months while in JAX on business and they are friendly, accommodating and professional.
Great Experiences everything I've visited! They have a pleasant staff and some of the best prices in Jacksonville. They are also military friendly.
They’re the best! Straightened my buddies derailleur and didn’t charge us a thing! Scott and crew really know what they’re doing! Thanks guys!!
Called, asked if they had a part. I was told, yes, they have it. When I got there, they didn't have it. Treated me like a thief of their time.
Scott is the man! Super helpful. He went above and beyond to help me get my bike boxed and shipped. Will definitely be using Open Road again!
Great place and fair priced. Gave me an date when they could work on my bike and had it finished that day. Great people. Avondale location.
Walked in, they had what I needed at a fair price. Made me feel welcome even though I'm a novice. My new home shop for all my bicycle needs
Love having this shop in town. They're knowledgeable and friendly and have a great selection of bikes and parts and all the fun stuff.
They did an excellent job of freeing my crank ! I will highly recommend them when you're buying a bike or having it serviced.

Christopher waa waa EXTREMELY knowledgeable and helpful. Great customer service from everyone from start to finish!
Great place to shop, very knowledgeable, helpful, plenty of choices to choose from when looking for a new bike.
Will not ever go back. I went in for pedals and was made to feel like crap because I am a rider on a budget.
Rented bikes from the San Marco location and had a great experience. Friendly and knowledgeable staff!
Great bike shop for folks near San Marco. Got my flat fix in on Christmas Eve as a walk-in client.
