I've come to that store for about 15 yrs + to purchase products. With Covid 19 , u were not allowed to purchase items yourself (to browse) . They sold me a 25lb bag of food that was ripped. Contacted the store as I dont have a vehicle to see if either they can discount it or pick it up for an exchange. Staff didnt know what to do as I told the manager that if the staff is the one responsible in grabbing the product to ensure the bag isnt ripped. I preordered the items I wanted the day before so it wasnt a rush for them. He stated that the bag was probably ripped due to unpacking the bundle or the staff pulling the bag off the shelf to fast. Take the bag home and not realizing the bag is ripped was upsetting as it was quite heavy carrying it all the way home. The manager called the owner as no one knew what to do, Pam contacts me and says it's not up to them to go get it and I can bring it back at my leisure. I asked about discounting and she said no. Yet when I brought it back the item was discounted into the rescue pile. I told Pam , the staff should be more careful nx time and she basically told me oh well things happen. No sorry , nothing...I no longer go there as I'm not going to spend my $$ to give more in her pocket. I've been going there as I said for yrs and to be treated like trash, forget it. After talking to Pam a staff member called to verify to me when bringing the product back that it's not a new purchase of the bag (for the rewards program) that it's an exchange only. I told her I knew that and when i return that day if i could have my free bag that was part of the reward program that was there that i was saving to take it the nx time. She said she had to check the card i told her to do that as I'm coming back now for the exchange bag and the free bag. When I get there she doesnt have the free bag ready and questions now if I have a free bag, like duh.. I just finished talking to her over the phone. Save ur $$ and go elsewhere. I've had my friend that purchased stuff there and is no longer as well. Pet Valu is more expensive than other pet stores such as Best West and Petsmart. I had a real eye opener when I visited these stores. Terrible service at Pet Valu .. the past staff there were very customer oriented but not now..... no remorse... never going back

Very disappointed that after going to buy my 13th bag of cat food, which was then supposed to get me a free bag, only to be told my card had expired 3 weeks ago. At no point was I provided with any literature or verbal advise from staff that there was an expiry date associated with this program. I had heard some bad things about this company's franchise practices but kept dealing with them hoping they weren't true. Well I won't be going back and a local independent operator will now get my business. Typical corporate rip off operation with dis-empowered staff not allowed to make good customer service decisions.

It's a smaller store, but that's fine with me. The staff were quite helpful and friendly (even if I was there 15 minutes before closing). I wanted a large bag of Acana classic Red dog food. It seems the large bags are stored in the back, due to shelf space. So ask the staff if you don't see what you're looking for. They have a loyalty program where you get the 13th bag of food free (not incredible, but I'll take it).

I went in there to ask where they would recommend I take my cat to get a full spa treatment. They gladly told me where one of their employees takes their cat. Can't get a better referral than that but I won't repeat their recommendation until I can give my own review. I think that is only fair.

Great selection of good brand dog food, and i enjoy visiting this location. They have a good selection of healthy dog treats and chews that are a bit harder to find. I just wish it was a little bit larger like other locations with the dog washing station.

I use the dog wash a lot and have referred a kennel there and now they use the service. Friendly people. Also thier products for both cats and dogs are excellent. Bought large dog kennel and many other products from them!

I prefer this store to its competitors. The staff at the Madison Square location are always very friendly and helpful. I also like the products sold here although a lot of it does over-lap with other chains.

Really great place to shop! I had questions about type of kibble and other things and the staff was very friendly, patient and knowledgeable! I recommend this place and staff and will gladly come back!

Anytime I go into any of the city's Pet valu locations I have a great experience. I love how they often have furry friends to pet and the staff are always willing to help.

I love the bathing system they have, as much as my dog may whine and howl, he comes out clean, sleeping fresh, and it's only 10 bucks.
