I love Petbarn, it’s the first place I go to whenever I want to buy my new puppy who is 5 months old something. My partner and I went to Petbarn watergardens having had good experience in the past. On the way there, our puppy vomited in the car just outside Petbarn from carsickness. The vomit was everywhere and disgusting, so my partner ran into Petbarn asking for some paper tower or if they had anything to help clean it up. The woman at the counter assisted us in giving paper towels but didn’t ask any further questions and didn’t seem approachable. After cleaning up the vomit, we finally came in with our puppy on leash to try on some sweaters and a harness. While we found everything else we wanted okay, we had troubles with the harness. My partner again went to find help, only to find the same woman who was standing at the counter, unresponsive and staring at her computer. My partner wanted to wait for the other employee, who was great and helping everyone who entered the store with what they needed. However he was unavailable. It seemed like the whole duration we were there she was standing at the counter, sometimes staring into nothingness and not really coming around asking people if they needed help. Anyway, after a few minutes he finally got her attention and she came over to us to help. She seemed to know NOTHING about dogs. As ours is a puppy, he was freaking out the entire time and excited seeing a new person. Instead of giving him treats to distract him while we put on the harness,or coming up with suitable techniques she just stood there and occasionally giggled and talked in an almost whisper when he jumped up. What made this incident worse was our puppy found a hard bit of plastic on the ground, which she didn’t think was a big deal and that I had to pull out from the back of his throat. She did not see this as urgent, and stood there awkwardly mumbling making occasional comments. The only reason I gave 2 stars is because I love Petbarn. But this woman was terrible, completely different from what we’ve ever experienced and really disappointed. I’m aware of the criteria required to work at Petbarn includes assisting customers and being knowledgeable with an outgoing attitude. Her behaviour seemed to totally contradict this.

Don't waste your time!!!. If you need to go to a pet store go across the road to Petstock. I went into Petbarn on Friday to purchase a fish tank and accessories to set up a tropical fish tank for my daughter. While purchasing all the things I needed to get started I was told to come back Sunday with a sample of my tank water so they could do a test prior to us purchasing fish. Well today (Sunday) I went into Petbarn with a sample of my tank water and the intention of purchasing fish just to stand around for 10 minutes without any service. We approached one customer service lady who rudely said "I'm busy I have my head in the tank give me 5 minutes" 15 minutes went by, we asked again just to be told that we need to wait for someone who was at the register to be free and that we shouldn't have came in on a Sunday because they're busy. Another 10 minutes goes by, finally someone starts walking our way from the register but someone walked through the entry door and got assistance before us. We waited again another 5 minutes to be told that we need to wait as there is only allowed to be 3 people in the testing area at one time after we have already waited 40 minutes. On Friday I spend $500 at this store and this is the service I get? Regardless of how much money people spend in the store anyone working in customer service retail should be willing to assist and help a paying customer. A paying customer shouldn't have to ask several times for help, a paying customer shouldn't get spoken to rudely by a retail assistant. We ended up going across the road to Petstock where we were greeted in a kind manner and helped within 2 minutes of being in the store. Petbarn maybe with that $500 I spend in your store on Friday you should use it wisely and put your staff through training on how to work in customer service. Such a shame considering the hard times so many people are going through not having a job yet you have employed three on the worse people I've ever dealt with in customer service. Maybe hire someone whose willing to work and give your company a good reputation rather than running it in the dirt.

In the past, I have had very prompt service from staff...although the prices have been top dollar. Yesterday afternoon about 1.30 or thereabouts I came in, and retrieved my desired dry food plus some liver treats for my dogs, the latter unpriced and waited at the counter for 10 minutes with no service. The 2 young inexperienced staff members were taking their time, with small chat to a handsome male customer plus a lady who had been waiting for ages...with no queues. I had a gym class at Anytime Fitness over the road, so I had to leave without the goods. One hour and 20 minutes later, I returned, hoping the wait would not be long. My goods were still on the counter, so obviously they hadn't service anyone there. The checkout had no queue so I got my goods...the dogs dry feed was top dollar but I wanted it and was happy to pay it...but I got the young checkout lady who was really inexperienced to check out the liver treats...they were $27!!....they other customer waiting there gasped at the price, as well as me. I said to the bewildered cashier...she knew nothing about prices ...that that was a terrible price...she replied " go to Woolworths then". I paid for the dry food and left. What a terrible outlet with terrible prices and terrible service. Barb

VERY VERY Bad Customer service! The Branch Manger (I refrain from puttig her name online) is interested in the customer only if you are buying stuff from the store. On every occassion I was advised to buy test kits for my acquarium since the inhouse testing is complimentary. I get that. The Branch Manager had already judged me - I am there only for the free water test! Evident from the fact that I was advised to buy everytime I enter the store. What she fails to understand is that the so-called "free/complimentary" tests come with a personal touch of advise (hello!) that a test kit does not provide at home! It is the experience of the staff that draws us to the store! Budding hobbyists thrive on experienced advise. Everything else is available online, (duh!) Everytime I walked in, there was something about the Branch Manager that gave me a feeling "I am not welcome here". What is conveniently forgotten or goes unnoticed is that all the 4 "free" tests (over the last 2 years) have ended up me buying goods worth a minimum $50. My business is going some place else, where I feel I am welcomed. I HAVE to give a 1 start to be able to post this review.

Unfortunately I had a bad experience with this store and stuff. When I bought my dog frozen food In Caroline Springs I asked about taste guarantee due to my dogs allergies and she is super fussy. One of the staff members told me I can return if she doesn’t like it . I did that before but I asked just in case because food wasn’t cheap ) Only dog treats ( biscuits) are not allowed to be returned , she said. Once I came to this store in Taylor Lakes a staff member and manager said they had only this policy on dry food on the frozen food they will return only a money whatever is left in a box ! ( I use only two portions because my dog hates it) Absolutely ridiculous , I never had that kind of experience before so I made a phone call to Caroline Springs and they told me they will do a full refund on the frozen food…. The Manger of this store and her co workers are completely unhelpful . How come one PETBARN company has a one policy and two stores are not accepting them in the same way ?

My husband, myself and our 2 dogs used to love visiting Petbarn as this store is bigger and more open then the nearby Petstock and the staff there always took the time to say hello to our fur kids. Unfortunately, something has changed and the last 2 visits (31/07 & 02/08) were terrible! There were a few customers there on both occasions but barely any staff! On the 31/07 we took our dogs to get fitted for a new harness, got completely ignored, staff didn't even say hello or notice us, so after waiting 15mins, we just walked out and went to Petstock. Their staff were more then helpful. 02/08 I visited the store for a click and collect order and was rushed through the process as there was only 1 trained staff member who had to serve customers while training a new employee(who was trying to learn how to test tank water)! This is ridiculous Petbarn, hire more staff, people who care about customer service and people's pets!

Haven’t had a good experience at Petbarn Watergardens. One particular female staff member is extremely rude, abrupt and degrading in the way she speaks to customers, really puts you off ever going back. And by looking at the comments, it seems it’s an ongoing issue and they haven’t bothered to do anything about it! I also bought fish from there, they died within a day, they wanted us to bring back the dead fish! Eventually they replaced the fish... again they died again within a few days... kept saying we weren’t setting up the tank correctly!! But we decided to go to pet barn in Caroline springs and get some fish.. and they never died!! Still living 6 months later... so obviously wasn’t the tank that was the issue. Caroline springs was so friendly and helpful and definitely where I will be going from now on.

Staff consistently lie and don’t care. Lied about puppy school trainer being a breeder of my dog breed, lied that items were on a pallet out the back and would call me when they unpacked it. I followed up with a visit and asked if the pallet had been unpacked and told me “they obviously are having supply issues “ went to Caroline Springs, they had what I wanted in stock and had no supply issues. Got a call 2 days later they got stock from Maribyrnong and I could pick up. I tried calling them back and don’t answer the phone. All round terrible store. Offered $10 Off my purchase and was earned from purchase points I was told then told actually not as I hadn't bought anything since Christmas. Should I keep going?

Ordered dog food for the “2 hour delivery” promo, not sure why they advertise that when it’s delivered 4 days later after having to call them (general Petbarn customer service) multiple times. I called the service line on Tuesday night after realising the food had not been received, they advised they would try to place the order in for Wednesday however we did not receive any correspondence at all. My partner had to call again Thursday morning to make a complaint and they did give us $30 store credit. Overall it was a poor experience and waste of our time - our puppy had to go without his usual food for 4 days resulting in an upset tummy. Please take this as feedback for your team/staff.

Wasn't the happiest with our experience. After going through everything with the staff member it was made pretty clear by another team member that the first person had no clue what he was talking. If you don't know how to set up a fish tank and what I would need that's fine, I don't mind you not experienced with every single animal and haven't no clue what I may or may not need but acting like you do and giving bad advice was a bit annoying also because the EFTPOS was down which meant we already had to go out to get the correct money out in the first place so added costs wasn't what I needed. Staff friendly but could have been a lot better experience.

Worst customer service I've ever encountered, and this has been on more than one occasion!! Never going back. Previously been overcharged for food that was advertised cheaper on their own website, and the girl was rude about it when confronted that she overcharged me. Today's counter left unattended for several minutes with 5 customers waiting to pay. Then the attendant walked to the counter with a customer she was helping in an aisle and put her through before all the customers that were waiting in line!!

I was greeted and helped by the lady working at the front the moment I walked in the store which was excellent customer service. The lady than helped me with my dog bed which needed a new cover for it. She put the cover on for me and she made sure it was perfect. She basically gave me the time of the day to make sure I walked out of the store happy. She also spoke to me about Cairns and gave me a free flee protector for my dog. I think her name was Jenny. 10 out of 10 customer experience.......

I had a bad experience with this store. I was way overcharged for the products i bought. I was in a rush so didn't pay much attention at the time and my fault was I didn't get the reciept. Even contacting the store within 20 minutes of the purchase no help. Not sure if there is any piece of trust one can have after making a purchase at such known store. Definitely not going back to this store and not recommending either.

Absolutely terrible customer service. Every time I've been there the workers are extremely condescending, rude and just unfriendly. They make you feel as though you have no idea what you're doing even if you don't ask them for advice. I've even avoided doing click and collect orders here anymore because they are so unpleasant to deal with.

Wonderful customer service and friendly knowledgeable staff but the store itself couldn't provide any of the equipment I needed for my fish tank, there were big empty spaces on racks and shelves (I was told this was due to CoVid) but my other store 2 suburbs over had fully stocked shelves but less variety for same size retail space...

My daughter went in and wanted assistant, the female staff member was so rude to her that she left and right went to Pet Stock across the road to make her purchase. The same weekend a friend had a very similar experience, may be worth discussing similar customer service to your staff, considering competition is just across the road.

To be truthful I only went to pet barn as it was on my way home. BIG mistake.the staff were very rude and very condescending. Will never go again. The staff over the road at petstock are soooooo much better. More professional and always willing to help

Staff is always very friendly and helpful here! As we were buying premium dog food today, one of the male staff (didn't get his name) was very nice to initiate a price match for us. Very lovely of him to do that as we are regular shoppers at petbarn.

I'm not fond of going to petbarn at watergardens because the staffs customer service skills are terrible. Why do we have to go up to someone when we need something? If we look like we're looking for something they should come to us.

Lovely Petbarn and very convenient as its close to watergardens. The staff are friendly and the store is kept clean. This Petbarn is one of the only pet suppliers that regularly has Royal Canin for maltese in stock. Recommend.
