HIGHLY UNPROFESSIONAL - TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE We recommend that potential customers read this review before hiring Preferred Roofing. The company employs questionable business practices. Here is what happened: After Aaron (who we believe is the owner) met my husband to inspect our leaking roof in our home on 10/13/2018 he issued a quote on 10-15-2018 reflecting the work and actions needed to repair a leaking roof portion over two bedrooms. This quote was $13,800. On 10-15-2018, he issues another quote for the same work for $15,300. When we asked him to explain the difference between the two quotes ( as to why one his higher than the other), given the scope of work appears to be the same, he declined any explanation. At our kitchen table he assured us verbally "this is just a quote and let's see what work is needs to be done". On 10-24 he finished the repair and asks us to met him at the property requesting for us to sign an amendment to is contract which reduces his warranty. When we asked why this was not part of the original agreement given that we had made it very clear to him, that we need a warranty for his work and materials, so there no further leaks, he again doesn't provide a logical answer, other than "I forgot to mention this". During that visit, he explained what his team had repaired and it was established that the scope of work was less than in the quotes (both of them). To be specific, he didn’t have to do any “cricketing”, nor did he remove more than one layer from the, which resulted in the fact that the actual scope of work was less than quoted. As a result the invoice should have reflected the reduced scope. Yet, it did not. When we asked why we are paying for work that was not done, no answer was provided. On 10-25 Aaron demanded payment in full (of an invoice that was even higher than the second quote), ignoring our request for clarification. We then put an email together to establish the events "on the record" as we now feel we may be scammed. Again, we asked Aaron to update the invoice to reflect the actual scope of work and reduce the amount by the amount for the work he admittedly did not perform. After that we get an email that says: We will file a lien on our home if you dont pay today (10/31), and we sent the police to your house. Clearly a hostile gesture, which is entirely unnecessary, because we never said we are not paying the invoice. We just had questions about it, which are valid questions, such as what scope of work are we actually paying for? Additionally, we would like to mention that on 10/13 and on 10/15 we discussed the matter of the insurance with Aaron, who encouraged us in saying that he sees this as an insurance claim. He told us that he works with insurance companies a lot and that it would be best if we have him deal with the insurance company directly. Therefore we connected him with our insurance adjuster. Having the insurance pay for this repair was obviously an important consideration in hiring Preferred Roofing . On 10-25 we received a call from the insurance, confirming they spoke to Aaron, and his statement let them to decline our case. When we asked Aaron to explain what statement he had given the insurance that would cause this, he didn't respond. We understand Aaron may be bothered by us asking these questions, but it is no reason to practically blackmail us into paying his invoice. We believe it is within our right to seek clarification on what we are paying for. Declining answering our questions, threatening us with police and placing a lien on the home shows bad faith on their part is certainly not conducive to any solution. Needless to say we will respond by reporting this company to the appropriate authorities and we will take necessary legal steps. Potential customers should know what they may be getting themselves into when hiring Preferred Roofing.
I contracted Preferred Roofing on the recommendation of my HVAC company. I wanted an established company that did their single job expertly; i wanted a company that was valued by other professionals. It's just fact: i will only get the roof replaced once on my house, which is not enough interaction to establish a relationship with a vendor--I needed to rely on an existing relationship. Preferred Roofing was excellent from the first phone call. David is not merely charming, he is 100% invested in being the best--his easy good nature comes from confidence, and that confidence comes from his team. Everyone at Preferred Roofing is a good & courteous worker. They came by a couple times in advance to check requirements and explain the process. They even handled interactions with the HVAC guys. Everyone was straightforward, all communication was clear & concise. The wait list was a few months, which confirmed my choice: I wanted workers that spent their time working. The crew was like a military unit--organized & efficient, and totally autonomous. I stayed out of their way. It took three days, there were no complications and not even any questions. If they had asked questions, i simply would have told them to do whatever was the best solution--the whole team obviously knew roofs more completely than i can imagine. The crew did a remarkable amount of work, and kept the site so clean it was like they were never there. I often describe work that I cannot do as "priceless." Preferred Roofing not only did work i cannot do, hard & messy work, they did work i didn’t even know existed. Maybe I could nail down a sheet of plywood and lay a tile... but i had not even heard of an O’Hagin Vent, and i can’t possibly explain how to “torch a cricket”. I was glad to find professionals, and happy to pay for their work. My house was immediately more comfortable; honestly, the next week was as hot as summer, my house was easily 15 degrees cooler than pattern. The new roof was worth every dollar. David wrapped the project personally, stopping by to review the job and provide paperwork. The final payment stayed exactly on bid. The whole process was a delight and--hahaha--I hope I never see them again!!
I had a great experience with Preferred Roofing! At the end of 2018, I purchased a house that needed a new roof. Aaron came over to look at the project. He educated me a bit about the process of re-roofing a flat roof. He was courteous and seemed more knowledgeable than other roofing companies I'd interviewed, so I hired him. Things became a little complicated immediately because the solar panels on my roof are leased. The solar company told me they had a 45 day waiting period before they could get a crew to remove the panels...meanwhile winter (along with rain) was coming and those solar panels needed to come off before the roof could be replaced. Aaron quickly found a solar installer who passed muster with the solar leasing company so that we could remove the panels immediately. The site proved a bit challenging--steep driveway, hills, tall house--but Aaron worked it out. The entire crew was extremely professional and quick. A few weeks after the completion of the work, I received a note from Aaron. Inside was a certificate from the City of LA's building department proving that the permit had been satisfactorily closed. This is very important, and, while I'd forgotten about it, Aaron remembered. One month after the project was completed, the roof was put to the test with several heavy rains. My flat roof does not leak! I want to say one other thing about Preferred Roofing because I think this is hugely important: they are very ethical. In addition to the roof they replaced, I have a fairly large deck over a living area that I'd been told was improperly installed and at risk of leaking into my living room below. I asked Aaron to give me a bid on replacing it. He declined the job (which was actually a bigger job than my roof) because he said I needed a contractor with a specialty license in waterproofing, not roofing. Then he referred me to a great waterproofing specialist. He actually passed up making more money off of me in order to make sure I got exactly what I needed...this is great service! I wish everyone was as reputable. I highly recommend using Preferred Roofing!
After researching the new roof process, to replace a 30-year old shingle roof and likely some fascia boards, I arranged to get proposals from multiple companies. I was particularly impressed with the professionalism of Preferred Roofing. It is obvious they stand behind the quality and craftsmanship of any home they work on! Aaron came to my house, took all the requisite measurements and evaluated the condition of the existing roof. He was on time, knowledgeable and extremely helpful throughout the process. In addition, he was patient and explained what was necessary as the worked progressed – they provided exceptional customer service and are very responsive. During the removal of the old roof, it was discovered that numerous pieces of wood on the roof deck needed replacing, as did about half of the fascia boards. All the terms were up front so there were no unexpected surprises. The foreman was competent and skilled, as were all the workers. Everyone was friendly and courteous. The crew was there on-time every morning and cleaned up the work site every afternoon. I never saw a nail on the driveway! Aaron and his crew were also able to help solve an issue I had with my older AC base. I had a new cool roof installed and it is absolutely beautiful. The quality is outstanding. Although the bid for the work was higher than others I received, the workmanship was well worth the cost and they are solution oriented. I had an extremely positive experience with this company and highly recommend them.
I've just bought a house that had very old worn-out shingles (two layers of asphalt shingles) that had been installed directly onto the original wood shake roof which is an improper and problem-prone installation. So it necessitated tearing the entire thing off and putting down new plywood and everything. I went with Preferred Roofing and I had a wonderful experience! The roof is large and of medium steepness, but not terribly complicated; however there was also the wrinkle that the (very old) compressor unit for the central AC system was propped on stilts on the roof, and I was also having an AC company do a total overhaul of that system - the owner of Preferred Roofing David Paine worked well with the AC company to have them disconnect the old unit, had his guys remove it, and worked with them to get a proper pedestal installed and roofed in ready to go for the new unit. Everyone was on top of quality, they found and folded into their work replacing some rotted wood around the eaves that had been caught in the inspections - I'd totally forgot to tell them about it but they caught it anyway. They also cleaned up after themselves very well, the yard and everything didn't get horribly dirty like I was half expecting. Overall I had a very good experience and the new roof looks great. It wasn't the cheapest bid I got but I think very good for the quality I received!
On June the 30th 2020 my Mother had a scheduled appointment with Preferred Roofing for. an assessment. On tile. damage. On the front roof of her home. The agent Field. Supervisor. Aaron. Pollock. Was on time...However. When. my Mother. was explaining the issue with. her roof it appeared to. me that. the agent was very. preoccupied and dismissive of her concerns. As the agent. stood on her front lawn looking. at the roof the. only visual assessment. he gave her was the tile became. loose. from. wind damage. As my Mother. inquired about a price. estimate. the agent. received. a phone call. from the. DMV office. he excused himself. and took the call. As the assessment. went on I her son inquired. about possible. damage. on the roof. that we can't. see in the back of the house.....Again. he appeared. to be dismissive. and arrogant. ..not at all practicing. attentive. listening. skills from the home owners. concerns. This whole process. lasted about 15 minutes. ..not once did he ask. if we had further concerns. or questions. He promptly stated he had to go and got into his truck and left.Bewilderment. is an understatement. This. was customer service at its. worst. The experience was horrid and unacceptable. I do not recommend. Preferred. Roofing at all.
We had to replace a 30-year old roof that was not built up to current codes. It's a big job and we wanted to make sure it was done right. We researched several roofing companies. After speaking with owners, getting quotes, and contacting previous clients, we settled on Preferred. It was not the cheapest quote, but I felt that the owner, David Paine, cared about doing a quality job. He and his company were very clear and communicative during what turned out to be a prolonged process. I live in Culver City, and new codes on their part meant that there was a lot of back-and-forth with the city, along with added costs. None of this was the fault of Preferred, however, and they communicated well during the unexpected delays. Even when they discovered an error on the estimate, which ended up incurring extra costs, I felt this disappointment was handled fairly and professionally, and David made an effort to offset these costs to us. Once the job started, it moved briskly, and was done on time and the workers cleaned up every day. We are very happy with our new roof and would highly recommend Preferred Roofing to anyone with roofing needs.
I spent over a year interviewing close to 20 different vendors looking for a roofer I could believe in. Aaron Pollock at Preferred Roofing turned out to be the person I trusted the most. I received bids much lower and bids much higher. Ultimately it came down to trust. He's straightforward, thoughtful, knows his stuff, told me things about HVAC unit my own HVAC guys didn't tell me, and he steered me to the best solution for my house. Done on time, no delays, no problems of any kind. Preferred Roofing is A rated on the Better Business Bureau and they're certified by the county to inspect their own work—no delays waiting for an inspector. Only a very few roofing contractors have this stamp of approval, and Preferred has it. Oh and I had a couple of very hot rooms, Aaron recommended low profile O'Hagen vents to cool them down. Didn't even know they existed. Great warranty for workmanship from Preferred also for 10 years. Now all we have to do is wait for a really hard rainstorm. (One final note: don't be surprised because Aaron is very very tall.)
I contacted Preferred Roofing along with a few other companies for quotes. Preferred was not the cheapest, but they were not the most expensive either. I wanted to go with a company that had been in business for a while and that had a good reputation. The reason I decided to go with them is because we had good communication with Aaron, our salesman. He was wonderful, walked us through the entire process. I have never had to buy a roof before, so I had a ton of questions! Aaron was super patient with me and answered all my questions. He made the entire process painless. His crew came in every day on time and they cleaned up after themselves daily. Not gonna lie, there are always a few nails around - so be careful on the driveway when you get home each night. But I think that is to be expected. Overall, these guys are great and I highly recommend them.
We purchased a home with a roof that was in really bad shape. We didn't know the extent of how bad it was until the intense rain storm came through Los Angeles a few weeks ago. Through years of neglect, the roof had major leaks. We called Preferred Roofing. They came out and put a tarp up on the roof right away to stop the leaking temporarily. We then hired them to replace our roof. David, the owner, was upfront and real about the cost, what needed to be done, and what they might discover when they pull up the old roof. There was a lot of rotted wood underneath. They replaced that, installed a new roof and did it in just a few days. The crew they sent were friendly, efficient and didn't leave a mess. David and Aaron communicated with us throughout the process and the end result was a beautiful new roof. I highly recommend Preferred Roofing.
We had a roof leak develop during a rare LA rainstorm. Aaron Pollock and his team were responsive throughout the process of helping from the first call to the assessment of our problem. The consultation provided was client centered. We were given alternatives including major and minor solutions. There was even an option that we could have done ourselves. We came up with a resolution that did not require them to do work. If we had needed work, or if we need it in the future this will be the company we will call. You can't beat a company that will quickly respond in a crisis, be responsible to their commitments, and respond with professional and seemingly fair options.
We cannot thank Aaron and the team at Preferred Roofing enough for replacing our outdated, and badly in need of repair, roof. Aaron was very patient and walked us through our options. When the time came to start the work, he coordinated with contractors to take care of fascia work and electrical repairs. The team at Preferred were quick, efficient, and cleaned up daily. The job took about six days to complete. We know it doesn’t rain often here in Los Angeles, but when it does, we will be covered. Thanks again!
Used preferred roofing to add a cricket and replace a large number of broken tiles on my house. I found their quote reasonable especially compared to a few other roofers. I spoke mostly to Aaron and one of the things I really liked about him is that he answers his cell phone and always gets back to you. The crew did a very professional job, were courteous and finished on-time. I would highly recommend using Preferred and would not hesitate to use them again.
I just felt very comfortable in communication. The information provided to me was more than helpful. Although I am so far away, Aaron was absolutely the most kind, professional, knowledgeable and proactive person I have ever encountered. Almost wished my issue was in CA and not out of state. Just goes to show that there are wonderful professionals willing to assist whenever possible and I am forever grateful! Would most certainly recommend them in your area.
Aaron was absolutely amazing and incredibly responsive. My inquiry was related to a loud roof turbine and not only did he take me through the process to course correct but he also showed up at my house at 7:30 AM to disable them so my family and I could sleep in peace. I would HIGHLY recommend Preferred Roofing Inc. to anyone who needs help and assistance with their respective roofing needs. These guys are amazing!
I am very satisfied. David gave an estimate within 2 days of calling. They started work within the month. And they did the full job in 2 days! The quality is great too, no nails poked through around the eaves. I have a small house with an attached 1 car garage and patio cover (about 2200 sqft total). They were not the cheapest, but they include a full warranty and are professional enough to stand by it.
True professionals. Appeared on time, did the work contracted efficiently, and took the time to do things the right way. The crew was meticulous about clean up and left it in better condition than when they arrived. Aaron was responsive to phone calls and kept me well informed throughout the process. Overall very impressed and satisfied from bid to completion. Definitely recommend.
Aaron Pollock was absolutely fantastic when we found a leak in our living room. In the middle of torrential rain he gave us great advice and helped us. A few days later he came out for free and gave us the name of a contractor who could do the work for us even though his company was not suited. Very grateful for Aaron.
David and Aaron are the roofers you should call if you want work. They are in high demand because of their quality of roofing. We are a solar company and are very selective who we use. The valley has a million of people who call themselves roofers, only 1% are actually the best, preferred is.
From start to finish everything was very smooth. Mr. David Pane was very professional and knows exactly how to get the job done. Ms. Erika was such a pleasure to talk to and goes above and beyond to help. Best roofers in LA indeed! I would recommend this company anytime.
They provided great service, a thorough explanation of what needed to be done, and excellent communication. We were pleased with the work and appreciated their honest feedback of other potential repairs that weren't necessary currently. Recommend!
I’d recommend Preferred Roofing Inc. for new roof installation. They were professional, thorough, timely, cleaned up the exterior, and informative about roofing.
I have used Preferred Roofing for more than twenty years. They are very professional and I have referred friends to them as well.
