As peninsula residents out for a nature walk, we wanted to support a local business that must be missing it's usual tourist trade during COVID lock down. My partner bought a drink and an overpriced sausage roll that was the worst that either of us have ever had. Foul tasting greasy meat with chunks of apple that might be expected in a fruit pie or strudel, but came as an unpleasant surprise when biting into a traditional meat product. Overall... Very disappointing waste of money that ended up in a waste bin after two bites.... the pastry was nice, but you guys really need to work on your filings and make sure you tell any "non-hipster" clientele what they are getting when they place a food order. Update in response to the owner’s rude reply to some fair criticism of a bad experience… We didn’t see what we ordered on any chalkboard because my partner just wanted a plain sausage roll and she asked the person at the serving hatch if they had any. It was the foul tasting greasy meat and globules of fat in what she was served with that left my partner feeling sick all afternoon (not so much the little pieces of apple)! We won’t ever buy anything from Red Hill Cellar and Pantry again and would strongly recommend steering clear of this place and its rude owner.
Went looking for a nice, cosy late lunch and found this when so much was closed. What a find, fantastic food, friendly team and fast service. I had the butter chicken pie, which was packed full of flavour and served at the perfect temperature. My partner had the chicken schnitz on a brioche bun which was equally as delicious. We went inside and found a great little shop with fresh fruit and veggies, a quaint little supermarket and bottle shop. We bought groceries for our dinner and a great bottle of local wine. I even got some fantastic service from the small post office shop they have there too. All in all it was a wonderful experience on many levels. We got so much more than we expected. Will definitely pop back in next time we're around. Thank you all
Great food & drink, amazing produce, top location. However some of the junior staff would benefit from some hospitality retraining re; communication skills / just general manners. Some staff often appear disgruntled and regularly ‘miss place’ orders. With no consideration to even apologise to customers for leaving them waiting extended periods. An understandable mistake when its busy, but less acceptable when its dead quiet. Hospo up skilling would go along way here. That said front of house hospo work is not for everyone.
Since Covid has hit, the place has gone downhill very quickly. Poor coffee, open hours have reduced, availability of Gluten Free foods have significantly decreased and extremely poor customer service. Seems that current management have contributed to a miserable work culture considering most employees are rude, unaccommodating and slow. It’s also disappointing to see that the owner rebuts some fair criticism on Google Reviews with a defensive and rude response.
Have been a regular for 3 years. Always love the food and coffee. Have always found the staff friendly and professional. However the last few times I've been in I have found some of the junior staff to be lacking good communication and customer service skills. They often interrupt and walk off while placing and orders, are unhelpful and appear to be uninterested. Really disappointing as I love coming here and supporting a local business.
We came here hungry and thirsty. We ordered pizza, coffee and two beers. Everything was good and tasty (a bit overpriced) , BUT! It was literally two minutes before the happy hour, that we found out straight after we paid. So we weren’t even told that in just two minutes our beer will be half price. I might be wrong, but it’s not the best example of customer service
Be careful with what you are charged at the register. On 2 occasions recently I have been overcharged for items which were clearly priced when I purchased them. I understand the benefits of having a local general store and think the prices charged already reflect that, however I am not impressed by additional markups quietly added at the check out.
Why don't the Red Hill Food Store recycle the plastic cups used for water and smoothies? Customers are encouraged to use their own bags when buying groceries. It's contradictory and not good for the environment. Please use glasses and wash them. I took my plastic cups home which I used and put them in my recycling bin. Very disappointing. Mary
We love visiting the Ed Hill Cellar & Pantry after enjoying the Red Hill to Merricks trail walk - there is usually a crowd - as everyone loves this place! The coffee is great and so is the seasonal menu, there can be a wait, however, when ordering you are always given a time frame - and this is a great time pace to sit and wait for a coffee!
Was there twice on the weekend. First visit customer service from two young ladies were warm and friendly, coffee was fantastic! Returned a couple of days later, was served by a couple, lady and guy were rude, Iike we were a bother, was dismissive and not even a thank you. Cappuccino turned out like a flat white. Appalling customer service.
This place is great! Stacked with artisan foods, fresh foods and everything you need if you're staying in mornington. We just wish they'd been open later by half-hour as we missed out on our first night there! The cellar is stocked with all the local brands including some unique gins and ciders!
We stood waiting for a coffee and were ignored for about 10 minutes. Then we ordered 2 oat milk lattes and ended up waiting 25 mins. Then 1 of the oat milk lattes was a regular milk latte. Really regretted this visit. It’s a pity because it’s a cute local store with delicious food!
We've enjoyed the Red Hill Cellar and Pantry four times in our one week holiday on the Mornington Peninsula, coming back for great toasted sandwiches in Turkish flat bread and excellent coffee. And it's a great store for a tempting range of cheeses, vegetables, fruit and more.
Convenient and efficient! You get what you ask for. A great place to have a short break, drink beer or coffee aside anything you could ask from a good grocery store - from good cheese to nice sandwiches. These is how a break should look like!
Fabulous selection of smallgoods, desserts, wines, greens and small supermarket .. an ‘all in one’ handy store. A good friendly place to go for breakfast, brunch or to run to for necessities and specialty items. Coffee is great too ..
Great products that you can't find other places, which I LOVE and friendly staff. But honestly, they are expensive compared to other places, on many like for like items, which is disappointing. But that's how things are now lol
When we are here in Red Hill we always come here for something, coffee, cake or some snacks from the shop. Very good place for relaxing after long walk. Love this little place. The muffins are extremely yummy. Coffee is great.
We love this place for a relaxed lunch and the coffee is great. We have never been disappointed with the quality of the food or the experience. We visit very regularly and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere and rustic feel.
Very helpful manager today. Trying to locate lost car keys and Joe was really receptive. Had great coffee there on Sunday. Always pleasant staff and efficient window booking system. Dog happy too !!
Waited 15mins for a take away coffee (we were advised of this, but prepared to wait) and got called up for a lukewarm latte in a glass... So not take away, or worth waiting for. Disappointed.
Great coffee and takeaway lunch sandwiches. The gluten free Turkish style bread roll and the raw peanut butter slice were both very tasty. Good for coeliacs
The chicken bacon leek pie is AWESOME! Great quick food to have while winery hopping. The cauliflower salad is good and sweet potato salad I brought home.
You stock strawberries from 5 minutes down the road, sell them for extortionate prices and then they’re nearly always mouldy! Seriously how hard is it.
Paid $4 for 50 cents worth of chips. I’m not mad but this is injustice and I had to save someone else from this pain, don’t get the chips
Only limited selection, but have some nice gourmet / specialty foods. Like anything at the top of the hill, make sure you're cashed up!
Fresh and fancy groceries. Stocking a great deal of produce only available locally. Has cafe and bar. So much tasty!
Lovely staff, great coffee and my fav place to pick up goodies for next level cheese platters on a girls night!
Joe and the team are EPIC. Beer, wine, groceries are an indulgence what a great place to get some real food
Lovely local supermarket. Jazz music. Local produce. Nice coffee. Great stop over for road trips.
Used to love this store but has gone downhill dramatically and now totally mediocre …
Bought 7 sausages for $14 bloody rip off. They must think everyone is loaded in red hill.
Fresh produce looked amazing. But over priced on just about everything. Like 50% mark up.
Had the sausage roll and it was delicious. The subtle apple was delicious ;)
Great coffee. Good quality produce. Excellent service. Friendly staff
