"I simply cannot believe that this slice of paradise exists in the middle of the city"

"Magnificent secret nature trail of Rivonia/Woodmead, this walk can be adjusted to suit your time available, proceed South from start and not North, our favourite place is a huge swing bench suspended from a giant tree on the River bank, overlooking some rapids ending in a large pond frequented by various water fowl, we are accustomed to taking our picnic back pack to enjoy some snacks and a bottle of wine whilst swinging under the tree"

"The river itself is attractive, but not when it’s filled with plastic trash washed down by heavy rains"

"Absolute best place for a Sunday afternoon walk! The river is the cleanest river I’ve ever seen, with the most beautiful nature surrounding the whole walking trail"

Hidden GEM in the ❤️of Edenburg. Easy access via 8th Avenue. Parking sufficient but can see that it can get full. So lots going, some craft stalls along the route, some “Private properties “ to walk through(you’ll c) and owl boxes, ducks , birds, people catching , all in between the houses. REAL pitty that the storm water brings trash down the river BUT lots of effort to clean and pick up, even on a Sunday!! Good on them. So definitely recommend this walk, all people and their dogs very friendly and even some places to have a spot of picnic, so pack in some goodies and head for some R&R...

I simply cannot believe that this slice of paradise exists in the middle of the city. I walk/jog here at least once a week and just don't ever get bored of the place. Never overly crowded, but you'll almost always pass a friendly face during a walk. You might even be able to spot a yoga class on the lawn or a tour guide showing off to a couple of foreigners. Very much my go to for a quiet, relaxing time outdoors without having to drive a hundred kilometers. PS. Just a thank you to Maria from ManeAttraction Hairstylists who mentioned this place to me.

Magnificent secret nature trail of Rivonia/Woodmead, this walk can be adjusted to suit your time available, proceed South from start and not North, our favourite place is a huge swing bench suspended from a giant tree on the River bank, overlooking some rapids ending in a large pond frequented by various water fowl, we are accustomed to taking our picnic back pack to enjoy some snacks and a bottle of wine whilst swinging under the tree. You will definitely enjoy this secret place no matter what season. Allow several hours for this meander.

The river itself is attractive, but not when it’s filled with plastic trash washed down by heavy rains. The east bank is pleasant enough for a short distance starting at 8th Street going north - where there are wide areas under mown grass - but it quickly becomes unpleasant and scary as you go towards 12th Street. The bank narrows and passes through long sections of dense vegetation, flanked by ugly razor wire and rusty spiked fencing. Doesn’t feel safe at all. My verdict: don’t bother.

Absolute best place for a Sunday afternoon walk! The river is the cleanest river I’ve ever seen, with the most beautiful nature surrounding the whole walking trail. I spent an hour here walking 5km altogether. The residents are going out of their way to keep this trail safe and clean. A few amazing picnic spots with swings and ducks and grass. Wil 110% recommend this for any person with kids, dogs or just a love for nature. You’ll forget you’re in the city!

What a pleasant surprise. Beautiful in the early morning with hardly anyone around. Clean & well maintained. There hasn’t been much rain recently (being winter) so there hasn’t been litter to get caught up on the river banks and rocks - lovely that the river is clean for a change (unlike many other Joburg rivers). I’m looking forward to going back again soon - with a camera!

Even though cleaning operation are ongoing, there us a lot of plastic pollution all over the place. The walk is fine and the doggos enjoyed it despite us not allowing them to swim in the river.

Nature is my happy place and this spot never disappoints because it's nice and close, so I can quickly and easily get my fix to recharge my batteries when I have a slow morning and woke up a little too late to get out of the city for a long drive and nature walk.

We did the walk on Sat & Sun, as its really lovely. The left side of the entrance is the cleaner side to walk, ideal for kids and dogs too. Seemed safe. The river is pretty and many picnic tables to use. Definitely recommend

This place is just beautiful a quick destination to relax get out to nature and calm down, it's just a river so no rest rooms, it is dog friendly. The playground i would say is the rocks climbing allover.

I have been to this wonderful place for a few years now, and invited my 3 friends for a picnic lunch today. It's the first time that I have been with so many people having a fantastic day.

Loved the walk on the river with my family. We haven't been in a while because it's been super busy since the pandemic. Good to be quiet again. Nature, water and the family …

Fun little trail, my dog LOVES it! Only thing is almost no one seems to pick up after their dogs, despite all the signs that beg people to pick up after their dogs …

I'd love to say this place is terrible just so that less people visit and it can remain a peaceful escape from the rat race.
