"Most horrible experience ever you pay a fortune to have your loved one buried there and they don't care I literally had to contact them and have them clean of my mother's grave because it was covered in rubbish I have spent almost 12 months attempting to 1st get my mother buried there with her mother then after jumping through all them hoops I am still to this day months later having to try And beg to get my mother's name put on the headstone even though I paid for it months ago and no matter what I do with this organisation it seems they don't know what they are doing 90% of the time they can't answer your questions because it is a different part of the organisation They want you to pay a fortune and then shut up I was treated So horribly like I was a demon or something when I complained about the state of my mother's grave they have no compassion understanding or anything they are emotionalist Horrible humans other people who have left 5 star reviews the management because the new management is horrible The rest Yet of our family refuses to be buried in that graveyard because of all this There is much more issues I have faced with this organisation but I do not have enough room in this to put it 100% the worst experience I've had in my life I have lost my mother and instead of being able to just grieve her I'm still having to deal with the burial arrangements I have never faced a more horrible experience in my life and it shows the lack of compassion And I feel it is extremely disrespectful to my mother and my family"

There are a few things you don't want to happen at the funeral grounds/crematorium while you're grieving the loss of your Mother: 1. No one calls to inform you that your Mother's ashes are ready for collection. When the funeral director calls Rookwood to follow up, they are told that a letter was sent informing that the ashes are ready. However, they lied as no such letter ever arrives. Additionally, they have your email and mobile and could have easily emailed, called or SMS'd but did not bother to do so. 2. When you go to collect your mother's ashes, no condolences are given from any of the three staff at reception, instead it feels like you are there to pick up a Coles online shopping order. They have been desensitised and there is no personal touch or caring nature you would like or expect at such a difficult time. 3. The audio-visual guy, John L, cuts off the photo montage presentation you spent hours lovingly putting together to honour and remember your Mother, because he doesn't have the sense to check how long the file is in advance. 4. The same AV guy, John L, replays the hymn from the beginning instead of ending the song file. Again, because he doesn't have the sense to check how long the file is and when it should end.
unprofessional phone manners. I expect the person I am dealing with to begin a conversation with introducing themselves followed by brief pleasantries, and a description of what they can offer me. After all, my mother had just passed, this is everyday for the staff, first time for me, I need to know my options so I can make a decision. With one hand on the phone and the other on a calculator, the conversation started with, your mothers ashes can be interred, in this place or that & we can do plaques etc. I interrupted and said I just wanted to collect my mothers ashes, she sounded a little shocked and said "oh, yes, you can do than" I then contacted Woronora, the complete opposite, professional, kind, very helpful
Rookwood Cementary is a larger Cementary/ Necropolis (large cemetary) near Lidcombe/ Homebush in Sydney. It is about 100 years or older based on some of the dates on the grave stones in the pictures and in the distance in older sections of the cementary. There are lots of small roads inside the gate to drive around to the different areas within the cementary and to also look at a church and tye old railway station. Their bookings office is just around the corner Rest in Peace done magnificently with comfort n style ! Amen
Was amazed at the size of the place.with a lot of history. The cataloguing to find a family member was very accurate with google putting us close to the mark and finding a lot that I have never visited from an era before did not take to long to find. This surprised me. There will be some people finding it hard though. Even though cemeteries are not something people would go to out of the obvious reasons. This place is worth touring around as I will next time I'm in the area and the weather is more temperate. More signage all over would be good as it can be hard to get around due to the size of the place without google maps.
The oldest working cemetary in Australia; insanely interesting. There are age-crusted tombstones, weird tombs, mausolea you'd swear came straight from the set of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and more history than you can poke a stick at. The Friends of Rookwood group run guided tours on the first Sunday of every month. Some of the tours are general history and an introduction to the site; others have themes like Murder and Mayhem, and Plague and Pestilence. Be there. Also, check out the crazy beautiful memorial gardens at the Crematorium.
Rookwood General Cemetery is the oldest, largest and most multicultural working cemetery in Australia. Its grounds tell the story of Sydney's history and cultural diversity, while its peaceful setting and artistic monuments make Rookwood General Cemetery a fascinating place to visit all year round. They maintain over 130 unique interment grounds, historic and modern memorial areas, culturally specific gardens, four beautiful chapels and a state-of-the art function center.
I found the cemetery wonderful and it is worthwhile researching the history of Rookwood on the internet - it will make your visit so much better. A previous reviewer said that Rookwood was "badly designed for the disable". Really??? Rookwood Cemetery was established in 1868 and covers 268 hectares. The cost to make a cemetery that is 149 years old suitable for the disabled, which I am one, would be astronomical, and no-one would be able to afford to buy a grave there.
I left something important at one of the chapels and phoned to ask whether it was still there. A lovely lady called Gemma answered my call. She not only put my mind at rest by going to have a look and consequently finding what I had left but she offered to post it back to me after finding that I lived quite a distance from the crematorium. Gemma excelled in both her manner and her people skills. Thank you so much Gemma. Suzanne
A beautiful place to spend your final rest, and my grandmother is buried there so I have personally seen its solemn grace and splendour. The plots are well maintained and the flowers are displayed and cleared away before they become older than they should be. Well cut lawns and tranquil grounds are the wonderful last resting place for that sorely missed loved one. Pay your respects in a way that shows love even after death.
A million souls are buried in Rookwood - it needs a proper Google Maps directory and more signage! Many times we and/or others get lost trying to find a funeral we are attending - it is a very traumatic experience. I am thinking the State government should subsidise a Google Maps Directory that takes you to every section and every road in Rookwood. If you agree, please write your own review saying so.
A peaceful spot for a contemplative wander. It is a large cemetary with a number of roads traversing the space which has different areas for various denominations. It has many beautiful grave stones and a number of mausoleums. There is even a little gazebo where u can sit and rest. The cemetary is only afew minutes walk from Lidcombe railway station.
They are lucky there isn't any competition or they would go broke - absolutely rubbish service. They did not do one thing that they promised and it was one problem after another. The only positive thing was the grave diggers, very professional - maybe they could teach the office people how to run the show?
This place definitely NEEDs to start offering electric scooter and Segway hire, maybe even golf caddy hire. Spending the day exploring here will KILL your legs and joints. It takes like an hour to walk from 1 side to the other. I am begging
It's very big place if you don't know or haven't been there before you can easily can get lost I love going in but at the same time it's sad to do so My grandparents and my relatives are in this area god bless them all and rest in peace
I checked their website for the time of the service, it said 1pm. That was incorrect. The service was at 11.30am the... Burial... was 1pm. They should know the difference between the two. Would not recommend based on this alone.
I love this place. Lots of history, many architectural styles , amazing variety of trees shrubs and flowers. Excellent public facilities, and well maintained it is the largest necropolis in the southern hemisphere.
A very newish chapel situated in the grounds of Rockwood cemetery very stylised inpresentation I would say that it would hold 80 people easily parking area is right in front of chapel highly recomended
Lovely venue and the AV system is excellently instigated so it doesn't stand out but is easily seen by everyone. It's one of the most beautiful venues I've been to a funeral at in my life.
Disgraceful service, they forgot to open the Mausoleum doors on Xmas day. Lots of people waiting outside not being able to pray for their relatives. No emergency number available either.
Serbian Orthodox Lawn Section No. 2. As cemeteries go lovely place for final rest until the resurrection of the dead and The Second Coming of our Lord Jesus Christ☦☦☦
her name is Milena she should be younger than me but remind me my mother she is care a bout coustomer . very freindly , helpfull ,and such a good lady . thanks
Nice place to come and visit those who have departed. Such a massive place, likely to become every Sydney resident's permanent address for many years to come.
Very quiet, wet today and muddy. A lot of cracks in cement on pathways, criminals have damaged alot of crosses and tombstones. God bless the departed.
Beautiful helpful staff, I gave them no warning, as I did not know you needed an appointment. They went above and beyond to help me thank you so much.
Even as a child I loved Rookwood. We used to go there often to visit relatives graves. It is a beautiful place and I used to explore there for hours
Bit of a strange place to explore but it is quite an interesting place with lots of history about the different cultures in Sydney. very peaceful
All Souls Church has had a make over, it looks very good now and just the place for a funeral, as it is within the confines of Rookwood Cemetery.
Rookwood has such beautiful well kept grounds as well as beautiful chapels. Rookwood is full of history and a great place for a peaceful walk.
Soulless building with terrible facilities. There is no need for cemetery chapels to be as bare as this and with poor functioning PA systems.
Michael and his Dad have been making headstones for our family for decades. We've been very happy with their service and the cost.
Am not satisfied with what are doing the work and place at Macedonian 1-2-3 section is comedy at all organization …
Overpriced. How bad that they take advantage of the family of the deceased. Badly designed for the disabled
Had an issue with the audiovisual... could not finish broadcasting the slide show prepared by the family
The staff there were very helpful with my enquiry on the day I visited. Also they were very friendly.
Best cemetery in Sydney by far with parking in different sections you a visiting god bless. …
Visited here, good place, actually so good people are dying to come here!! Can't believe it,
A nice place to say goodbye to someone. The funeral directors were kind and understanding
Need more signs so u dont lose ur way inside and to let people know where u are as well.
The place is very well kept and it brings a lot of happy memories flodding back thanks.
Easy to find War Memorial.and remembrance plaque via registration booklet.
Clean and safe parking. Coffee shops and flowers store available on site.
Spend 3-4 hours walking around surrounded by history - fantastic
For what it is, it is extremely beautiful and very well kept.
