I rarely write google reviews but this afternoon's experience was so bad i felt the need to. My wife, 5 year old son and i went to this venue this afternoon for lunch. There was one staff member on the floor, a gentleman with long hair. There were two other customers sitting in the whole venue other than us. We were told that he couldn't take our order because he was too busy and that we should order via the QR code based ordering system. I thought that was not a friendly opening statement but ok. Anyway we tried to use the system but it didn't work. I then asked for assistance and was told "the system is down we are rebooting" and to wait for five minutes. We did as we were asked. It took ages to order food and drinks because if you want order a glass of wine you literally have to scroll through the entire menu. Anyway i managed to get the order in. Then i got an error message at the payment process . . . something about credentials needing to be updated. I showed it to the gentleman and he just shrugged his shoulders and said he had never seen anything like it. No assistance with the app was offered. He did not offer to take our order manually over the bar so we left. The body language and facial expression offered indicated he saw us as a bother. It's a shame because my wife and i had heard good thinks about Sonder and this was our first experience giving it a go. We won't be back.

The vibes of this place were immaculate! Loved the busyness of it all, and I feel like you don't often get an atmosphere like this at a local bar - more so one you might find at the city. Serving sizes of food were really generous and I appreciated that, because I feel as though you don't often get that at bars. My partner ordered the heinanese chicken which tasted awesome! The combination of sweet and spicy worked so well together, and the skin was a little crispy making it that much more enjoyable! I myself ordered black bean pork noodles, which on the other hand was a little less enjoyable. For me personally, I am more used to black bean beef, and the change of the meat threw me off a little and it tasted a little inauthentic to Asian flavours. It was still an enjoyable dish, however, probably not something I would gravitate too straight away. Overall, I really liked my experience and I would return again!

i wish i could include a photo, BUT, we asked for a bowl of chips but they did not have it on the menu, so we altered a burger and chips meal on the menu to just chips, and the portion of chips that arrived was approximately 5 chips per person, and there was only 5 of us, you do the maths. the environment and the vibe is so good, but we wrote special notes in the QR ordering code, to add extra chips instead of the burger, and honestly they did not deliver. easy fix from them, so don’t let this deter you from coming here, more just for them to improve on. i work in hospitality, so i know how detrimental a bad google review is, it can ruin a restaurant or a staff members career, but i was just so disappointed with this chips incident, but otherwise the hospitality and environment was good! please just give more chips when people ask, or add to your menu, $13 for a bowl of 23 chips is not okay (yes we counted).

Great service! Staff are always friendly, fast and accurate with orders. Perfect, every time. Drinks & food are delicious (my fav are the burgers and churros!). Accessible venue! Wheelchair accessible and has accessible toilets. Great atmosphere and cool music. Highly recommend. My favourite bar

We went here today and had to wait over and hour and a half for our food. it took 30 min to get our drinks and after 45 min i asked about our food. They just said they where understaffed and are doing there best. after this we had one entree come out. After an hour I asked again and received the same answer. 5 min later someone came out to tell me they where out of rice for my dish, they did manage to change rice with vermicelli noodles. We asked about the chips and they brought them out 5 min later. it took 1:30 min to get hainanese chicken (no rice), they offered drinks but i do not drink so... they forgot about the waffle chip and we ended up getting them refunded. The food was ok but not cheap and the wait made it not worth the time...

We booked for a 12:30pm lunch in the beer garden. When the four of us arrived, we were told we were to be seated inside as there was a 150 people function outside commencing at 1:30pm. Given the current COVID situation where many people feel more comfortable dining in an open air area, it was disappointing that we weren’t contacted and given the opportunity to cancel. The food was ok but the venue is dusty and dirty with ants everywhere. It looks like it needs a thorough clean. Plates weren’t cleared for a long time after we’d finished our meals and they weren’t busy. When we left at 2:30pm, we popped past the beer garden where we were supposed to have been seated to find no one there. Disappointing. We are locals that won’t be back.

Great space and really good food which gets the stars up. *Some* staff are extremely rude, and certainly unable to think outside the box. A couple of the bar staff believe their own hype, and have been heard by numerous people making comments about their customers when they thought they were not being heard. Absolutely not solution focussed and have a Laissez-faire approach to customer service. It's a great bar and environment, but you need to train your junior staff appropriately and speak to your senior staff who are rude, obtuse and create a poor atmosphere for your paying customers. You probably know who they are. With bentleigh social round the corner, people will move on if things don't improve.

Great new bar in Bentleigh. Beautiful interior layout with an amazing private back area with heaps of lighting. Staff are really friendly. Can hold a lot of people inside and outside. Nice drinks and atmosphere too. The only thing that lets it down is the limited food menu and waiting a while for your drink to come to your table if you order a cocktail. The menu consists of $15 pizzas and $18 cheese boards. We had pizzas and they were amazing but they are more on the smaller side. If you’re hungry, I recommend getting one for yourself. DON'T USE THIS BAR FOR PRIVATE FUNCTIONS! I had a function space booked at Sonder Bar and the staff told me I could have a reserved area to myself, however they let the public in my designated reserved area without telling me. They just want to cram as many people in as possible to make money. also the bar staff served drinks that I did NOT authorize on my bar tab and ripped me off at the end of the night charging me for drinks that my guests did not even drink ! (I discovered this after asking my guests the following day) I WAS NOT HAPPY !!! the staff are nice, however have no idea how to run a function and it can really stuff up your special event, as I experienced. NEVER AGAIN!!!

Decided to try Sonder's Typhoon Vietnamese Pop Up last night during Melbourne's lockdown. WOW what a surprise! So glad we did. Ordered online via MrYum Eggplant Chips, Vegie Spring Rolls, Chicken Ribs, Rice Vermicelli & Fried Rice. Ridiculously delicious Modern Vietnamese. Servings were generous for 2 people. Click & Collect was super easy with our order ready on time. Margarita cocktail pack for 2 was a last minute add on but so worth it. Well made and easy to make at home. Thanks Sonder team you made our Saturday night pretty special. We will be ordering again & definitely dining in when restrictions lift. #SUPPORTLOCAL

I have always loved this place. But today was nothing but disappointing. I wanted to book online but the website was not letting any bookings go through and suggesting their other bars. We went anyway and walked right in with heaps of room left. Finally, after all these years, Moscato has made it to the menu. YUK. Hey guys, not sure if you know that Moscato is sweet. Then went to order food from their scanning app. Noticed Calamari but the app said Sold out. So ordered other food and 20 mins later see plates of Calamari come out. We questioned the waiter and he said you can order it at the bar. REALLY. Pick up your game.

Hadn't been here since first year of opening. Returned for a work Christmas do and the outdoors area was absolutely amazing. The music from the DJ out the front, pumped through the rear speakers, the accessible bar and food available made for a great night out. Admittedly I hadn't bought a beer in a long time, but was spending $11 for a schooner of craft on tap. Didn't mind though, if I hadn't tried something, got a small mouthful to taste. Hats off to the bar staff for that! Recommended for a great social place to relax and unwind in their private Oasis out the back.

Went here with a group of friends recently. One had consumed too much over the night and was in the bathroom in a serious condition. Whilst we were calling an ambulance, the manager on duty was more concerned about obtaining our details to ban us than helping out. He laughed in the face of one of my friends, making fun of the fact he was stressed. The manager had to be removed from the area by his own security because he was being so obnoxious and egotistical. I generally liked coming here, but management seem to have gone down hill in the last few months.

Had a 21st birthday event on a Saturday night. Easy to communicate to arrange via email and extremely helpful Would recommend booking the room upstairs as the small area I booked was next to the toilets and was taken over by random people during the night. Outdoor area is beautiful but closes at 10pm. Staff did assist by allowing us to use the upstairs area later in the night but we didn't feel welcome upstairs at first . Staff were friendly and helpful.. Drinks great but food was lacking. Overall a great night

Been to Sonder many times before but on Saturday I ordered some food and drinks. Drinks were served but food was delayed. When asked where the food was a server by the name of Lyndal took care of us. She was very hospitable and apologetic. She brought out our food and made sure we were taken care of for the inconvenience. I can't recommend Sonder and Lyndal highly enough. She was professional and courteous and made our visit enjoyable. What more could you ask for. Great service, great food and great staff.

It was a nice bar. Open mic night was good. The sound for it was a little bit poor, though, as there was only sound at the front, so you couldn't quite hear well at the back of the room. They had a disco ball, but it wasn't in use, and there were no lights on it. That would've been nice. Staff were friendly. It was pretty stinky around the toilets, though. Needed a little more attention there. But overall, not a bad little place. I would go back.

Having Sonder in Bentleigh, couldn't feel lucky enough! The food is tasty, staff is always nice and friendly. Now with Trivia, open mic and Bingo Tuesdays, there are just more reasons to come and enjoy couple of more cocktails

I loved the atmosphere here at the night time. Drinks are nice but only wish if they had more options for their foods. I recommend sitting at the back side, might need a booking for sitting there but is worth it, love the decorations each season and when I visited during winter, they had heaters everywhere so the place was more cozy and warm.

Had a Christmas catch up and was awesome the atmosphere was so chilled we all actually felt like we were on holidays at some resort.... The service was no 1 so helpful and friendly. The food for me personally was average but maybe what I ordered wasn't the best. I would defo recommend to anyone we already planning our next night out.

Staff is great. So friendly and happy to help. Good food and atmosphere. Sat out the back in the alfresco. It's covered so don't worry about the rain if that's a concern. Highly recommended. Great spot. The food is good as well but trends to be a bit pricey for what you get but ours was a little bland for my taste but still....a very good spot to go and just chill out our watch the game. We had an awesome time. We booked in again for the new year with friends.

Sonder bar offers a chic and cozy atmosphere, with top-notch drinks and delicious food. However, what made the visit truly memorable was the outstanding service provided by their waiter, Anthony. He was attentive, knowledgeable about the menu, and went above and beyond to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable experience. Overall, Sonder is highly recommended for a great night out, especially if you're lucky enough to have Anthony as your waiter.

We went for dinner here last night after a really busy day we were hungry and tired and uncertain if we would even be able to get a table as we hadn't booked.lucky for us we got a table in the outdoor area and had Anthony and Jack serve us, they were absolutely brilliant at a time where hospo venues are short staffed and they are all under the pump they went about their work in happy, jovial and speedy manner We will definitely be going back.

We love this place, since we moved in the area it has become our local, the beer garden is amazingly beautiful, the staff is very friendly and the food and drinks are great!... We also celebrated our daughter first birthday, with friends and family last Sunday in the beer garden and we had the best function experience!! Thank you so much to the friendly Sonder Bentleigh team for being so accommodating and making this a lifelong memory !!

Fun little place, fantastic staff. If you're wanting to talk, sit under the heaters outside though. Inside, the musics too loud to talk without yelling, but there's no room to dance?! It's seated at tables only! Cocktails are around the $20 range and very well mixed. The food was a bit hit and mix the night we went, but the presentation was good. Overall it was a good experience, recommend you give it a try, especially if you're a local

Expensive. That said great vibe and venue with polite staff at every turn. Food and drinks came out quick but a little disappointed by the serving sizes for the premium price. Curfew on a Friday night (10pm I think) where a full place get ushered out was a big ✖ for me but they're powers beyond the venue citing being in a residential zone. If you're keen on nibbles and great drinks with the intention of kicking on, great vibe place.

We went to Sonder for my partner’s birthday and the atmosphere and staff were so so lovely and accomodating! Viviv I’m particularly was a standout! Always helping when needed and addressing any concerns we had! He made sure everything ran smoothly on the ground and we can’t thank him enough!

Came for the trivia night which was really fun. Had food as well, all the food was fresh and tasty. We ordered using the QR code and that was really cool. The only thing that I didn’t like was that the sauce that comes with the churros was REALLY spicy and I didn’t like it at all, and I like chilly so that’s saying something. Won’t take a star off for that but just something to note. Will be a regular here since I am local.

First time to local bar, Sonder. The place is huge & fabulous. Loads of space inside & out. Music was great. On a Saturday mostly full. Just loved it. A couple of cocktails, but like many bars not as strong as they should be IMO, but tasted great. Great array of good, had the haloumi burger that was great. Rest of the table very happy. Wide age range as well so this nana didn’t feel too out of it. Will be back.

Lyndel is an exceptional bartender at Sonder Bar! Not only is she knowledgeable about the menu and able to make great recommendations, but she is also friendly and makes you feel welcomed. She always goes above and beyond to ensure that customers have a great time and leaves a lasting impression. I highly recommend visiting Sonder Bar and trying out a drink crafted by Lyndel. You won't be disappointed!

Absolutely LOVE this place. It gets better and better as they add in more structure with the menu and staff. Very friendly people look after you here, the vibe during the week is very chilled out, especially in the beautiful outdoor area. On a Friday and Saturday night expect large crowds bopping to music, amazing cocktails at the bar, really a fun night out in a local area!

I do like this bar, but very disappointing with the menu choices. Great if you want a burger n chips, but very limited in other selections as there isn't much outside of burgers, schnitzels and an average calamari salad. Need to offer a fresher n better selection in mains then just the plain stuff. I won't have a meal here again, only a beverage.

Love this place. My family visits often. I can see why. Great food, good service, and loved the cider. Good atmosphere. The back area where we sat was great. The plants seem to encompass you and make you feel relaxed.

This is possibly the friendliest service I've received in a Melbourne pub. They had a minor hiccup on a drink order, and gave us three on the house - all with enormous smiles and the best good humour. The place is gorgeous, the beer delicious, the pizza great - what is not to adore! If you're in the area, this place is a real real gem!

Nice place but they close the outdoors area so early that you ended up feeling in jail, such a shame because they place has a beautiful back area... perhaps rules in the neighborhood? Drinks are good, service is very friendly and the place is super clean. I think is a great place to start your night and then move to another venue.

We had Andrew looking after us tonight and he was nothing short of amazing. Knowledgeable, friendly and super accomodating. Thankyou Andrew! We look forward to many more great nights, thankyou for being a top bloke!

Have been to Sonder many times and had my 21st in their upstairs function space. The food, drinks, and atmosphere were seriously amazing. They took care of everything from food service to clean up to cake time. All the bartenders and staff are wonderful, special thanks to Luca and Mel for making all of my guests feel welcome ♥

We've been to Sonder several times last year for the amazing Asian Fusion menu. Returned again and sadly the whole menu is now little more than fish & chips and burgers - quality was good enough, but we always go to HunkyDory when we crave fried seafood. Sonder has a cool outdoor covered beer garden, which gets extremely busy.

Wow! What an amazing little gym in the heart of a busy Bentleigh shopping area. Perfect for a quite date night with plenty of room inside or out if you prefer. A 5 star review from only one visit with a few quite beverages is not to much at all, but will be back to try the menu and see if they can keep the 5 stars up.

Very cool bar in the centre of Bentleigh. Great vibe inside, club atmosphere. The real draw card here though is the massive outdoor area out back. Great space, a second bar, definitely the place to spend a sunny afternoon. Shame that it has to close at 11pm moving everyone inside (assume it's a licensing requirement).

Absolutely love this place. Cocktails, food, staff and vibe always bang on… only small thing - the burrito I had today from the pop up takeaway was extremely dry (maybe sauce was forgotten?) and a tiny bit lacking for flavour. Hopefully this was just a one off and it’ll be different when I return over the weekend :)

Stopped in for a drink and some food. Bar was buzzing, great vibe. We sat outside - great set up with fairy lights and lovely decor. Nice range of drinks, reasonably priced, and fantastic bar food - we tried the roasted chicken bao calamari, fries and roti. Everything was absolutely delicious. Highly reccommend!

Amazing aesthetic and atmosphere. One of the most welcoming bars I've been to in a while! Staff were very friendly and everything from drinks to nibbles were reasonably priced. I recommend the cocktails and pizzas. Perhaps call for use of the outdoor area because it look great for functions and parties :)

Cant complain. Nice tunes, friendly staff. Good craft beer on tap (mountain goat mainly) . Upon my visit the place felt very over staffed. Looks like they are super set up for some amazing cocktails. This would be a really good date venue with a decent amount of seats and happy vibe atmosphere.

I can't rate highly enough. We held a baby shower here recently and the outdoor setting was perfect. Staff were friendly and helpful and the food was great. Special mention to Vitor and Felipe who went above and beyond to make our day special! Thanks guys we really appreciate everything!

The number of beers on tap is quite impressive. I have been down a couple of times during the day and at the weekend and it seems to be a popular place. The only thing that would improve it for me is is they opened a little earlier so I could get a drink in the afternoon during the week.

Sonder is so good for so many occasions, I’ve caught up with friends for lunch, had some late drinks, had date night here and it always delivers. The atmosphere is amazing and the staff are so friendly, the wait for some food a little bit longer than expected but it is always worth it!

I had a bad first date here - but the bartenders took such great care of me!! Shoutout to Luca, Chloe and Jack who were superstars all night, and listened to me complain at the bar after I snuck back in to have dessert. Will definitely be coming back for the 5 star service!! :D

I came down on Saturday as they have an outdoor kiosk out the front selling takeaway burritos and tacos. We ordered the burrito and it was nice and filling. The vibe at the place was great, and very good customer service definitely cheered up my mood amidst a lockdown. …

This place has very poor service of health practices.. a friend.. food in floor. This makes me sick. How does one restaurant does this.. and serves this food. This guys are joke.. if alot of see this you won't come back. I will report this to the council..

Burgers were average (beef and haloumi). Chips undercooked, floppy and oily. Floor manager guy asking us to move seats twice. Poor experience, bad food, sorry. Here’s a photo of my floppy oily yellow chip. Most were left on the plate alongside the burgers.

Great meeting place to catch up with friends. Friendly atmosphere. Nice staff. Lovely garden area at the back. Cheese platters and pizzas available at the moment - but they’re in the process of providing more food options once next door has been renovated.

Had my birthday drinks at Sonder before the new year. It was easy to book and has a great range of drinks. There's always a great atmosphere and vibe in this place. Alex and the staff were amazing, really made my day memorable. Keep up the great work :)

Great spot to sit out the front and enjoy the sunshine. Super friendly and fast service. Tried the home baked vegan peanut butter slice which was delicious. Vegan cheese hadn’t arrived yet for pizzas but will be back in the next few weeks to try it out!

Overall a nice place. DJ, music isn’t too loud. Can sit down and have a chat. Service is nice as well. Food was Ok. Bao bun is nice, as well as the Asian salad. But there was some aioli sauce and cumin overuse for fries and the chicken bites.

A festive, dog-friendly, bistro and bar, with a luxuriant indoor garden, during the day. Which becomes a very lively, eventful venue, after sunset. A great place to stop by, in the South-East suburbs of Melbourne.

Great cocktails, staff and outdoor area. Hot chips were a bit of a let down as there was hardly and salt and didn’t look like we expected as they came out different to what was pictured on the ordering app.

They have the most wonderful beer garden built around the massive tree. The beer garden is also dog-friendly. They have Happy Hours and lovely food at decent prices. The staff are very friendly and helpful.

Good place located in the suburbs. Younger crowd. Good selection of food. Service can lack at times because it gets very busy. But the vibes are awesome so sometimes the wait isn’t that big of a deal.

Lovely in the outside area of the hotel but unfortunately closed at 10 so we had to go inside where the music was pumping so loud that it was near impossible to talk

my go-to bar for when i don’t want to go further into the cbd. the front half of the bar is pretty good but nothing compared to the beer garden out the back!

We had a great table for 10 people. Easy to see each other and talk. Food was very good. Everyone liked their choices. Staff were very helpful and cheerful

One of my favourite Melbourne south eastern bars. Friendly, mixed audience, and with a great outdoor setting. Food is good, especially the burger!

The staff was friendly and the service was good. Would be good to have a bit more asian fused dishes. The food we had was delish !
