We (a family of 4) dined here Saturday 14/11/20 and were extremely let down. We had been hunting for Chilli Mussels during our weekend stay, and The Deck was the only place we could find that had them and had tables available. For mains we ordered the Crayfish & Chilli Mussels off the specials menu, the entree Garlic Prawns, Broccolini and a kid’s pasta. For Dessert we ordered the choc lava cake and the butterscotch sticky date pudding. Upon receiving our mains, the crayfish was extremely cold, as if it had been cooked, frozen then defrosted and served. It was not what we expected and the menu did not specify that this was a cold dish. The Chilli Mussels were a poor serving size, and we did not receive any pieces of bread as the menu stated. The Garlic Prawns were over cooked, and they tasted extremely fishy. Again, we assumed that these had been cooked, frozen, defrosted and then served to us. The kid’s pasta was good. There were no issues with our drinks. Our desserts were also a let down. Our lava cake had no ‘lava’ in the middle of it and the sticky date pudding had a floury texture. It seemed as though they had been over heated in the microwave. The highlight of our dining experience was the little bowl of ice cream served with our cakes. If you are going to get a dessert, make sure it is the kids ice cream. Our waitress was incredible, and through all of the issues we had she took exceptional care of us to ensure that our needs were still being met. We forgot to grab her name but she had lovely red hair and some tattoos on her arm. Please commend her on her efforts. When we were paying/leaving i asked to speak to a supervisor and was greeted with what seemed like a bartender, not a manager of any sorts. We expressed our concerns and issues about our dining experience, but he was clearly not interested in any of the feedback we had. We kept getting the excuse of ‘everything is prepared each morning and cooked fresh for each meal’, but the meals we received did not reflect that at all. We stated that we did not receive our bread with the Chilli Mussels and were told ‘did you tell the wait staff?’. We had informed our waitress and she was just as let down as we were, and did everything she could to resolve the issue. The total of our bill came to $178. We had no compensation for our bill which we thought was extremely rude and unprofessional considering we did not receive everything for our Chilli Mussels, and all other seafood items looked and tasted frozen. We do NOT recommend this place. It is expensive and any feedback/complaints are not taken seriously.

I’ve dined here for lunch and dinner many times over the years but definitely left disappointed last night! The meal portions have shrunk … one example is the chicken Parma … it comes with chips and salad… the salad is in a bowl that is placed on the plate with the food.. I can only guess this is done to make it look like a full plate … take the salad plate off and empty it on the plate and the whole meal is much smaller than in the past. All other meals we ordered were much smaller than in the past. The service was very slow with our servers forgetting several items … one of the staff poured a Guinness at the table from the can but appeared to have no idea how the gas widget in the can worked … she poured a flat drink … the next time she poured a beer but didn’t empty the whole can into the glass , taking the can away with herself… I personally poured my first so noted the level in the glass. Finishing the meal the coffee order was forgotten and subsequently cancelled . So overall , disappointing compared to past experiences at The Deck.

Very disappointing customer service... Poor communication and no apology from the venue because of their error. I booked a table online for my parent's wedding anniversary and requested an outdoor table to be COVID safe for our 3 month old baby. The booking was confirmed by the restaurant, but we ended up wasting almost a two hours driving to and from the restaurant because after arriving at the restaurant, we were told we couldn't dine outside. When told we couldn't dine outside, I asked the staff if they'd received my outdoor table request - they said they saw my request but no one made the effort to advise us that they couldn't cater for our needs. They offered us an indoor table which we refused because we didn't want to risk COVID for our baby and elderly parents. To top things off, they had a big sign outside saying masks must be worn inside but they had table servers walking around with no masks. A very disappointing experience considering we were trying to support a local Peninsula business.

Affiliated with the Flinders hotel, we dined here for their complimentary breakfast as well as lunch on our first day. I took my two young kids and a girl on the table next to us asked staff if they had any colouring to which they obliged. My kids, on seeing this, were then obviously looking for the same colouring activity and felt disappointed that we also had to go up and ask, when clearly, dining with two young kids by myself was a challenge in itself and wouldn’t have taken staff much to make the experience less stressful. I ordered the pea and chorizo risotto which had just one slice of chorizo in: very disappointing. Furthermore, we were told at breakfast that we could only order a “kids breakfast” for our children when we had paid for an extra adult bed in our room - surely equating to an adult sized breakfast given the additional £££. Staff were courteous and professional but just disappointing given the expenses on this weekend.

Associated with the Flinders Hotel in Flinders, Victoria, this pub/bar had a relaxed, spacious and relatively clean atmosphere, and incorporated TV screens where one can get their horse racing or greyhound punting fix. We came here for a lunchtime meal and while the staff were friendly and courteous and provided textbook customer service, the food was sorely lacking. The canary in the coalmine was the orange juice that came out prior to the meals being served - not fresh, but instead from concentrate, likely from a Prima juicebox. Everything on the menu was priced as a premium item, so one would expect a premium product. Instead, the beef burger had stale, tasteless buns, as well as a sinewy, almost rancid beef patty. Quite off-putting. The beef pot pie was slightly better, but still nothing to write home about. Overall, steer clear of this establishment if you are looking for a satisfying, half-decent meal.

Overall disappointing experience. Came on the 2nd of Jan for lunch, where we phoned ahead in advance and booked for 11. Upon arrival the attendant was rude and couldn’t understand how a booking was made for 11, but said she would squeeze in chairs on the ends. At this point a pram with a baby was on one of the ends of the tables and she attended advising it would need to be moved as chairs were going there. I asked a valid question on where I should put the pram which had a 9 week old sitting in it and she rudely responded “I don’t know, but we can cancel your booking if you like” and walked off and continues to place chairs on the other end of the table. I had no choice but to place the pram next to me which made it hard for wait staff and other customers. Food was ok but based on the rudeness of that one attendant I won’t be back! Seems like mothers with prams are not welcome at this place!

Our first time dining here and l can honestly say it's our last. Food was absolutely disgusting. I ordered the seafood linguine and it was like soup, so much liquid and it was lemony and l can't describe the taste it was horrid. My partner ordered the Porter house steak and asked for medium rare and pretty much came out blue. I'm so disappointed and prices were very expensive. The waiter came to take our order 3 times forgetting he had taken our order. Checked the receipt and we were charged for a pot of coke zero instead of 2 small glasses. Over all it was a very expensive experience and one will never happen again. McDonald's would have been better and that's saying something.

Not bad of a place. Great service by staff. Food was good but felt the menu didn't have a lot of variety to choose from. The adults meals were about the same serving size of the kids meals. It would be great if they could offer a serving size with reduced cost for meals ordered for children under 5yrs old. Don't get me wrong, the food was very nice, steak could of been cooked a couple minutes more but felt the cost of the meals didn't justify the serving sizes. My fiancè and I, were still hungry afterwards and it was too costly to buy any extra sides. Normally, when we go to any bistro places, we would be left content. We may try again in the future but no rush.

  • Davin Tan

Poor service. We ordered 2 duck dishes and only 1 arrived. I understand that mistakes do happen however I am appalled at the response. When the dishes arrived, we were asked if we were sharing to which our answer was yes. When I asked if another duck dish will be arriving. The response was 'this is why I asked if you were sharing'. No apologies offered and the lady stormed off stating 'I will put in another order for you'. We don't mind the 10% Sunday surcharge or the mistake however cannot accept rude service. Been here many times over the last few years but definitely will not be returning. Plenty of other places to spend my hard earned on.

Lacking the rustic charm of its pre-2000s-renovation form; the Flinders Hotel is still however a fun, laid back & comfortable pub. The food is expensive but the service, drinks variety and the different bar/restaurant dining spaces make it well worth a visit

Pitiful experience. Omg, are you serious. I give 1 star as it tasted ok. But the size of a main meal is pitiful. Do yourselves a favour and find a food van.... Told the staff was nice but most entres are a better size elsewhere, response oh tankyou. Paid for the 2 main meals, a bottle of water and 2 softdrinks with 2 pieces of sour dough $91.00 and ..f me nearly fell over, told the waitres thats insane and how small the meals were. Oh okay she says. Obviously little or no care about having a bussineess. No ,I dont recommend here for a meal. What a sad thing for a pretty community.

The Deck Bar & Bistro is a nice restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. They also have a playground for kids. The service is quick and they are very polite and friendly, too. The food is tasty and we can recommend the the 'ash-prawns' as a starter, the barracuda on green asparagus and mushrooms as main and the berry-chocolate desert (yummy). We also tried Crème brûlée. The caramelized part was good. However, the creme below wasn't. The average price for a main dish is $25-30, which is in the ok-ish range. We can recommend this place and would go there again.

Second time we’ve eaten here. No complaints with food or service but at the end of the day it’s a pub - not fine dining. So don’t understand why wine is outrageously expensive - $57 for a $28 (retail) local wine with a 10% surcharge for Sunday is hard to justify. And what’s with the 10%. It’s Sunday, big deal. The clothing stores, the bakery, the grocery store - they don’t add 10% just because it’s Sunday. Penalty rates are being phased out so what’s the justification? Time you charged like a pub and understand your position in the gastronomical food chain!

  • SirNecromancer

A great Bistro thats always busy at the weekend despite having a 10% Sunday surcharge for no other reason than they can, as far as I can tell. I had the chicken parma, and to be honest it was a 3/5, certainly nothing to write home about. My girl on the other hand had the Orecchiette and proclaimed it one of the best vegetarian dishes she has had. The staff are a mix of clearly experienced, very attentive nothing's to difficult and very young and not quite up to par. Definitely worthy of 4 stars but a long way off 5 in my opinion.

  • John Reece

Very impressive to be able to serve good quality food with almost no delay during one of the busiest periods of the year. We were very impressed by the quality of the good, and the speed of service. There are many other pubs on the Mornington Peninsula who could learn a lesson from how efficient the kitchen and wait staff are at the Flinders pub. And let me add that the speed of service in no way meant that the quality of food suffered. The quality was excellent: good, basic pub food well-prepared and nicely presented. Well done

  • Richard Henke

Prices are absurd for what you get. Pub fare priced up there with top restaurants in Melbourne. 33 dollar fish and chips, 2 flathead tail in thick batter with a handful of shoes string fries, and a handful of Cole's coleslaw. 28 dollar Burger with handful of shoestring fries, no salad. My son's cheeseburger kids meal was a bigger serve. This place needs a reality check. Not sure how they get off charging these prices.

Extremely disappointing. 45 MINUTE SEATINGS. Despite response below I can confirm our booking was for 6:45 and we were moved at 7:30. We then complained. Dishonest responses from the owners only makes me more dissatisfied. Made the mistake of picking this venue for my partners 50th but unfortunately the manager is more focused on walking around with her head in her ipad and moving people on from their tables rather than training and directing staff to ensure customers have a pleasant experience.

Dined for lunch as part of a car club group. We sat outside on the deck & were lucky it was a nice warm sunny day. I had the king george whiting with macadamia & herb crust, ruby grapefruit, fennel & apple remoulade. It was very tasty & a good size lunch serving. Would have been even better if it was served with a handful of chips as hubby wasn't impressed I had to steal some of his instead. Hubby had a parma & enjoyed that also. Will return to try other menu items. Service friendly.

  • Andrew Lang

Typical hotel that wants to be a fine dining restaurant. Over priced food, with a 10% loading because it was Sunday. Mine was ok. But my partner got a burger with raw meat in the middle of the paddy they replaced it with another one that was marginally better. Still raw. To their credit they offered and did refund the price of her meal. Again as with a lot of hotel - pubs the beer selection was poor. Check the photo of my salad. Quarter of a cos lettuce with a bit of drizzle.

  • Nicole Robinson

We both ordered steaks, I got the sirloin and my husband the wagyu. Another diner had warned us to order it cooked less than we like as they over cook it, hubby heeded their advice, I did not. My $38 medium rare sirloin came out well done with no pink, my husband's rare $46 wagyu rump cap was tough, grisly and medium. His bearnaise sauce was split and my mushroom jus was like water. The staff and hotel itself are lovely, just wouldn't eat here!

  • Gypsy Rose

Service was outstanding from the moment we entered all the way through until we left. My steak was cooked perfectly to order. The menu offered a good variety even though a little oddly worded, but staff were always willing to non-judgementally assist. Highly recommended for a date night, family catch-up or small group/business gathering. I'll definitely be returning. Thanks for a wonderful Monday dinner experience

  • Chris Wengel

Went to order a schintzel and chips but only a parmi on the menu. Asked if they could just do a plain schintzel and chips which they did and charged me an extra $5, $30 for a parmi and $35 for a plain schintzel Plus not sure if the beer has gold flakes in it but got charged $10 for a mid strength. Asked for a schooner and served me a pot. Went back and got the correct size drink. Still $10 is very pricey for a beer.

  • dragonhsv

This place was great overall, kids and dog friendly. The staff was fantastic, brought our dog a water bowl. Entrees was fantastic, we got the mussels and the beef tartar. Kids meals was well sized and the kids are it all. There is no table service which was fine though there was no clear signage to where to order but asked staff and that was resolved quickly, worth the visit.

  • Janaina Carvalho Lopes

Good place with lots of seats ...is pretty much an "Australian hotel food style". We ordered carpaccio and came with onions and no bread so NOT good... But the basic food was good specially the calamari... My steak was undercooked but they took back and cooked better for me so it was fine. Plenty seats outside and a small playground on the side makes a good spot for families.

  • M. G.

Only came for dessert after having lunch elsewhere. Dessert menu was underwhelming so chose the Apple Tart Tatin. Very average, so wouldn't choose it again and the Smoked Vanilla ice cream was unpleasant. Room was cosy with a fireplace. Plenty of outdoor seating. 10% Surcharge on Sundays.

I visited over the long weekend of the Melbourne cup. While the food was good, the service was appauling. I might as well have been invisible. what was particulary annoying, was the fact that they charged an additional 15% for service that was not forthcoming. I won't feel the need to visit in the future. Shame, because they have a fabulous location in a lovely setting!!

  • Leticia P

This restaurant has deteriorated terribly since the last time I visited. The wait staff are untrained and the manager / owner is arrogant. Chips were unsalted and cooked in old oil - McDonalds chips are of higher quality. Meals were okay at best. Very expensive and a surcharge. Verdict: there are much better places to dine on the peninsula - will not be returning.

  • Kristyn Maguire

Ordered two chicken parmas and they were both reheated the chicken was old, tough and dry. Worst Parma I have had hands down. Chips were also stale and appeared to be refried a fair few times. Would not recommend. Extremely disappointed paying $60 for this. Updated from next day: both woke up extremely unwell during the night from this meal. Would not recommend.

Always go to the deck at flinders hotel when down the peninsula make sure to book in advance as they are quite busy. Great menu with lot hot of entree main and desert options, very cosy inside with fireplace large alfresco area aswell as cocktail bar and a gaming section bar and wait staff are always on the ball here exception service

Have always enjoyed the food and atmosphere here since The Deck was first opened but disappointed to hear that we couldn't bring our newly aquired small dog with us when we recently called to make a booking. Had always seen dogs in the open deck area on all our previous visits so a shame that they are no longer permitted within this outdoor area.

  • Llewellyn Stephens

3 glasses of wine between the 2 of us was cheaper than a bottle and introduced the option to taste various wines as well. I ordered the beef cheek. It was tasty, on a bed of potato mash with garnish, gravy, carrots and cabbage. Perfect winter warmer lunch. My wife had the gnocchi - pretty busy for a Monday lunchtime and I can see why.

  • Damian Davine

Had lunch at The Deck today and it was ok. Our last visit we gave it 10/10, but the menu has changed and was not nearly as interesting or tasty. My wife had a smoked trout salad, which she enjoyed, but which also included anchovies which weren't mentioned on the menu. Bonus for some, but an automatic rejection for many, including me.

  • Paul Garnham

Too expensive and poor quality I had the steak (steak fries and a leaf salad), my wife had the Malaysian curry. For dessert apple tarte tatin . Steak was cooked just right but not juicy at all, charge extra for sauces (it's $50). Fries were just

Average; would get a two but staff were very friendly and there was a nice ambience. Prices are quite high for mediocre pub-style food. Avoid the burger: it's dry and plain. The parma is alright but nothing special. Overall it's exactly what you would expect from a standard pub but food is not up there with the best.

The food is just OK and if you were paying average pub prices you might leave feeling satisfied. Unfortunately though, for what you spend here you could do much better at one of the local restaurants. The staff were all lovely and good selection of local wines. Not enough to overcome the bill shock though!

  • Jaymie wade

Had a lovely meal here with my dog... was amazing that the whole deck area out the front was dog friendly and that the staff made us feel welcome service was perfect with the waitress being super attentive throughout the whole course of the meal! The food was beautiful and the choice of wine vast. …

  • Erika Martino

Two words: tourist trap. Food was terrible. They forgot the potatoes with the steak (which was average) and when we asked for them they served us a stone cold gratin. The pasta was oily and was overpriced for the small serving. We use to come here years ago, but our recent visit was very disappointing.

  • Emma Risvanis

Adult meals were lovely but the kids menu needs some work. Burgers patties were so overcooked they were like charcoal coated rubber balls. The replacement was just as bad. Wait staff did acknowledge this but we were still charged. We were once regulars here but won't be rushing back. Kids are 11 & 13.

  • Joe Findlay

Great experience last night. Went on a recommendation and was not dissapointed! Very tasty burger, perfectly cooked, and came in a deal with a beer so no complaints there. Fish and chips was cooked nicely and the chips were great. Noticibly fast meal preparation and friendly service. Thanks again :)

Unfortunately the food is not great. We had a dry pork cutlet with a terrible coleslaw for $40, and a seafood linguine for $35 that was just ok. Service was fine and everything came quickly. Had to go elsewhere to get some more food. Would not eat there again nor recommend it.

A nice place to sit even on a cold winter's day. Didn't eat here by enjoyed a nice red. I would suggest you book a table as it gets completely packed out. Based on the number of people there I would say the food is good. The service was reslly friendly and efficient as well.

Went here for lunch today, happy with my meal, a chicken salad, but both my husband and brother in law ordered the steak, and both were very unhappy with it.Very expensive for what they got, Flavourless, gristly and a small serving. They don't split the bill either

  • Rocker ace

Very disapointed, very slow service waited over an hour for main course. Re-fried Calamari for main, lamb loin (embarrassing) cold over rested, vegetables steamed to mush, sauce might as well been coloured water..... City price for RUBBISH WILL NEVER GO BACK!!!!!!!

Average meals, size and quality wise. Some dishes came out missing ingredients. Prices are on the high side given what was delivered. Service was ok but I wouldn’t come back to eat. Maybe I just got them on a bad day as other reviews seem ok.

Great food but otherwise average service in a very busy, impersonal and pricey pub. Very young, inexperienced staff insensitive to disability and a real attitude. The older staff were better and a bit more patient. Overall a good experience!
