I absolutely loved this gym, but had a fallout with a particular trainer I had hired there. And I basically had to leave this club and move to one I really am not fond of, because of fear of meeting this individual at said club, with his smug attitude, built on non-action by club management who don’t do anything despite this trainer’s inappropriate behaviour. I was threatened by him, so naturally felt uneasy about attending this club. Management provided superficial reassurances that I’d be safe. But, I don’t take chances being female in South Africa. The sad part is that, this club was my favourite in Cape Town. I trained here with two of my sisters. And now we just have to move, because of the gym protecting its trainer, who failed to tell me sessions I paid for in earlier months, that were unused, would expire in September. Who had tried to then also, force me in about May, to pay for an entire whole month, knowing he was going to be on sick leave and then also knowing my schedule couldn’t accommodate regular 4 day per week sessions. I probably have a month’s worth of unused sessions, but he only mentioned the expiry after September when nothing could be done about it. He on the other hand, would not train us until we paid him, so he’d wait for us to pay him after our session had started and then he would not give us our full hour, even though we paid for it. It must be amazing to work for an employer who doesn’t monitor your behaviour and gives you so much backing and supporting that you can act so brazenly and confidently, towards your clients, even when you are in the wrong. Said individual even tried to label me a racist, to deflect attention from his wrongdoing. My contract is up and I’d rather support a smaller gym in Cape Town, where staff don’t walk around so smuggly, acting however they want, because Virgin is ‘too big’ to be encumbered by one solemn member in Cape Town. Smaller gyms are more client-centric and issues such as these are handled faster and with more urgency and tact.

Absolutely great gym! Has a wonderful range of equipment--cardio equipment consists of treadmills, skillmill (this is similar to a treadmill), stationary bikes, watt bikes, assault air bike (love this machine for a great HIIT workout if you're afraid to run on the treadmill), skiers, steppers, rowing machines etc. There is one main functional floor area and there's another open area (outside studio 2) where you can train if the functional floor area is full. There are your basic weighted machines such as leg presses, hamstring curl machine, abductor, adductor, chest press, shoulder press, bicep curl, low row, lateral pull, assisted pull up machine (great to use if you struggle with a normal pull up) and ab crunches. And then there are the free weights section where you'll find the cable machines, smith machine, pre-weighted bars, benches and basic weights. There's a swimming pool and three studios being studio 1 where full body, high intensity training takes place, mind and body studio is where you'll get your yoga and pilates classes and studio 2 is mainly a ride/spinning class. There is also a NU Cafe inside where you can purchase light meals and smoothies. The change rooms have basic lockers, showers, hairdryers and straighteners if you need to freshen up. Wonderful and friendly staff. The gym is generally full peak times (approximately around 6:30am- 8:00am and around 5:00pm- 7:00pm). Only negative is the parking area- the driveway is quite narrow and certain turns are sharp. Cars have to allow either one or the other to pass around the bends because they're so narrow. But overall, the gym itself is fantastic!!!

Nice big gym with everything you need. Full sized pool, cardio equipment, weights, functional area, B.A.S.E circuit and 2 studios and a cycling studio. There are also steam rooms and saunas in the changing rooms BUT they are off due to water crisis. Free undercover parking for 2 hours. Sadly no Kauai but Nü instead. Cardio equipment very nice can play games like Angry Birds on it while you work out of you are so inclined. Can also watch TV or simulate a run through a park or whatever you want. There is facilities on the equipment to track your work out but sadly the equipment isnt connexyrd to internet so you cant use these features. Parking is abit of a nightmare seeing as it is shared with the hospital but we are allowed to park on floors 2-4. Lockers vary im size fr small to very large. Showers are spacious cubicles but sadly only a single hook for hanging towel. All in all great gyn

Nicely sized gym with newish equipment. Would have liked it if there were the new assault treadmills and the core slide machines. There are a lot of treadmills, bikes, ect (cardio machines) for the busy hours of the day. Gym gets quite busy in the evenings and mornings. Bathrooms are the newly refurbished style, really big sauna and steam rooms available. Inside the gym there is a NÜ for you smoothie and healthy food needs. Dislike the fact that there are limited gyms in Cape Town and that they have parking garages. Although parking is free for two hours.

  • Evidence Sello Magaga

Loved this particular gym. Very well kept, gym equipment still relatively in good condition and good and friendly staff. The change rooms are in such high standard that I thought I was in a hotel. Simply beautiful. Now sure what the idea of not having shower doors was about but it somehow works even though it does make you feel awkward at first. Wasn’t a fan of the steam room because it was not hot/steamy enough and the sauna was closed for some reason. Pool is great and so is the grip area. If I was staying in town, I’d definitely go here daily.

Today, I visited the Foreshore VA to find out about joining. The staff were very friendly, the facilities were clean and tidy. Not crowded at all. Nice 25m heated pool. For the most basic membership, which is the club off peak (8am to 5pm and Saturdays) I was quoted: R740 P/M for 12 months and a R100 activation fee. The gym is closed after 2pm on Saturdays and all day on Sundays, however one could use any other VA gym on these days. COVID precautions are observed. Parking is free for the first 2 hours.

  • Vikash Parbhoo

Great modern gym fitted with all the essential equipments, medium sized weights area, lap pool, studio and change rooms. The showers are okay and the locker areas are kept neat and tidy. A great positive is that there is 2 hours free parking for all members. It gets busy during the early mornings and especially after work, so expect a bit of a wait for the showers and some machines. Note that the club is also closed on Sunday’s (but they allow you to access any other club on that day instead).

  • Miss J

Judging by the looks of things, I really feel my telephone bill will be more than what Virgin Active is mean to refund me. One thing I really hate the most to be given a time frame just to send me away. I really miss Virgin Active club in Lower long street because they always followed up when you have a query with your membership and advise the hold up if need be. When you want to signed up. Everyone is available to assist. The minute you see that something is wrong . You are on your own.

  • Theunis Jansen van Rensburg

This is one of the better Virgin Active gyms I've been to anywhere in the country. It opened in 2017 so is still very new. The bathroom facilities are top notch and there is a large steam room and sauna as well. It isn't as busy as some other gyms, which makes it a great workout spot. The only unfortunate part is the fact that the pool only has 5 lanes due to one being taken up by pillars of the building. All-in-all, one of the best places around Cape Town for your all-round workout.

  • Joss Kenyon

I started at this gym in early 2021, still during lockdown. It was great cause back then there weren't ever really any lines and you didn't really need to wait for machines/benches. Now that lockdown is over the gym is always very full early in the week, but by thursday/friday it's more empty. Unfortunately it's kinda limited on space. There are only 2 benches for bench pressing, and only 2 squat racks. They do have a pool which is really nice to use.

  • tauhir davids

I am a member at this gym and have been for the last 15 years but i have experienced that the service of this place has deteriorated with the staff.virgin active alwaya hires incompetant managers and whenever yhere is a query or complaint they never address it ;neither do they have the decency to reply even if you follow their protocol of lodgind a complaint.there are too many gyms out there and i would advise ppl to rather shop around before joining

  • Jason Maidment

Nice gym, but since Long Street closed it is always busy, unless you're lucky enough to be able to go during the day. 10 minute queues for showers are normal, and not enough space for everyone. Group training sessions in the only stretching area is very irritating. Over-priced (but still nice) food and smoothies; not sure why they don't have a Kauai, like all the other non-Red gyms. In short, if you can go to The Point instead, do it.

  • amy jacobs

Great views, great workout areas, just the parking-narrow, can become chaotic during peak times, have to park on various levels then take a lift to the level the gym is actually located on, and walk a good distance to get into the gym. Dont mind the extra walk, but when you're pressed for time in the mornjng before work, it can get annoying. Other than the logistics of its location, the staff and facilities are great.

  • Gerrit van Wyk

Been training here for over year everyday. Its is supposed to be a flagship gym but it has to many issues. Long street closed down. So all the members from long street is in foreshore. Mornings are terrible. half the people dont train. They just shower there for work. No stretching area. Functional area double as stretching area but its issue with the "The Grid Games". When will VA learn nobody cares for it

  • Rushda Ebrahim

I hate that you are not allowed to take your HANDBAG onto the floor. Where am I supposed to keep my ankle weights, skipping rope, water bottle, towel, gloves and gym card. Yes there are lockers BA guarantees no responsibility for theft of any personal belongings. Also the functional space is ridiculously SMALL. Why clutter the gym when there could be more space to actually move (without my handbag).

  • Arno Esterhuizen

This is a brand new club, and it shows. The cardio equipment touch-screens work, and are responsive. The locker rooms have simple, foolproof locks with no moving parts that can break. The stationary cycles have a view over the city highway (which is nicer than it sounds). A particularly nice touch is a dedicated area for wall-ball exercises with a painted target for you to aim at.

  • Mikha'il Hathey

Virgin Active Foreshore is an awesome gym located just on the side of the N2 Highway and boasts beautiful view of the Highway and Victoria and Alfred Waterfront Harbors. This gym also has a variety of different equipment for the Strength Trainer, Functional Trainer, Yoga Trainer. Experience the Foreshore gym for yourself and I’m sure you will love it.

  • Lyndsay Eaton

An awesome gym with a great view. The space is light and well air conditioned. The staff are very friendly and helpful. I go during the day so it’s quiet and there’s plenty of equipment to choose from. There is also the nice touch of “workout of the day” in case you’re lacking inspiration. My only issue is the limited parking although you do get 2 hours free.

  • Brandon Lorenzo

Good gym. Not the best in Cape Town. When calling them on Sunday at only 1pm they were already closed. Not sure if they even open on Sundays which is very strange. Otherwise the gym is good. All equipment is in working order and some areas have a good view. Overall, if you're in the area it's a good gym to go to. Otherwise try the Green Point branch.

  • Rob

FAB-U-LOUS!!!! This is definitely the best VA I've attended since 1998 when the chain first opened. The staff are well trained, friendly and unobtrusive. The gym has unpretentious clientele unlike its neighbours of Wembley Square and Point The equipment is nicely laid out and the pool is to die for Great place - I'll be signing up permanently

  • Catherine Kannemeyer

This gym is my favourite in Cape Town. I would give it 5 stars if it had a leisure pool but it's always clean and the staff are great. I also love watching the cars go by and the ships in the docks. I have to concede that Rosebank in Johannesburg is better due to the pool location. But they're each my favourite in their respective cities.

  • Brendon Petersen

Nice enough gym but incredibly small. Don't go in the mornings or after 4pm, if you do you'll get the rush of all the office employees. If you enter through the hospital entrance on the ground floor, head up to the second floor and then walk through to parking lot to the gym. Signs will guide the way. Free wifi at the gym works well.

  • Yannick U.

Indeed the Gym itself is great ! But Virgin Active are really not welcome for Single Day Pass. They Charging you 320 ZAR (20USD) and they don't even provide you a towel, neither wifi and as well you need to bring your own padlock if you want to be able to use a locker. OverPriced for what you get, especially in Cape Town...

  • Warren Rohner

This was one of the better Virgin Active clubs in Cape Town. Unfortunately staff have moved on, and although the current staff is friendly and professional, it's just not the same as a couple of years ago. One of my biggest gripes is maintenance of the Watt bikes is poor and some of the shower facilities need attention.

  • Fay Haupt

Its spacious and a nice veiw, has everything you need. Bathroom is great. Ppl are friendly. Close to hotels, waterfront. Lovely food. The service at restaurant wasn't great, had 1 customer before me but they were preoccupied after and know acknowledgement was given. Service could be better the food definitely is great

  • Jarred Lambert

Great gym with all the necessary equipment and facilities. Staff are friendly and helpful. It's one of the least busiest Virgin Actives I've been to in Cape Town. Only issues is the parking situation with having to drive through tight spaces and multiple levels as well as the cramped free weights section.

  • Luther Layman

The best VA in Cape Town with modern facilities, great chaniging area with good mood lighting. In addition, the gym equipment is spread out nicely with lots of natural light coming thought the vast windows. Pro Tip: The strecthing area just on top of the stairs has stunning views of table mountain ;)

  • Herman Brümmer

R1995 joining fees ? ? ? WTH are you insane? Gym is way to busy, you can wait 14 minutes just to take a shower in the morning, standing naked in a row of dudes -- what a way to start the day! Staff are pretty damn useless though, friendly but unreliable -- they can't spell customer service.

  • Pete Xtreme

Great atmosphere overlooking with the bustling N1 & harbor creating a unique feel. Really outwardly helpful & friendly staff compared to clubs like Century City (for the most part). This club deserves success & good rating but a big part of me hopes it remains quiet as my escape option!

  • Rodrique George

I made this my home gym since August. I am highly motivated at this gym. I also find the staff very friendly and helpful. I especially need to commend Chantè who is always professional, courteous and makes one feel welcome at arrival. She truly is a great ambassador of the brand.

  • Natalie Neokorides

Nice and quiet with spacious change rooms and showers. Always has electricity during loadshedding because it is on the hospital grid. Only reason I give it a 4 is because... Parking is a bit tricky. And there are pillars in the pool that create a weird subtle side current.

  • RS L

All good if not interested in the sauna. Disgustingly no body cares about hygiene in the saunas, neither members nor the staff. People will just walk in with there used underwear and use no towel. The majority never has a toll and the staff does not do anything about it

  • Jody Pieterse

Spacious, new and innovative equipment and very friendly staff. Funny enough, even with the view out the big glass windows, I hardly looked out much although it probably does add to the space illusion with lots of natural light. Definitely worth the premium.

  • Lindsay S

Modern well equipped gym with a great view of the Cape Town foreshore. The change room facilities are always clean and there's an adequate amount of, larger than normal sized lockers. The shower cubicles are also far more spacious than most other gyms.

  • Kevin C

Great facility. Friendly and attentive staff who are very well trained and extremely accommodating. Great layout and perfectly located. Appreciate the parking which is complimentary however very conjested and difficult to manoever in the parking area.

  • Alexander Kotze

Was pleasantly surprised at the facilities, especially the stretch area and changing rooms. The weights section wasnt the best in terms of the equipment brands used but that could just be personal preference. Pity its closed for most of the weekend.

  • Lucie Bartlett

One of the best Virgin Actives in Cape Town. Brand new extensive workout facilities, lots of class options (Pilates on Tuesdays with Jane is a highlight), spacious pool and in-house personal training. Nü cafe on site for healthy food & smoothies.

  • pooiendri naidu

It was a great first time. I was recognized as a new member and immediately taken on a tour and given a 101 of the facility. Friendly staff and lovely layout. Will definitely go there whenever I am in the area. The view is just amazing for me.

  • Mark Evans

This gym is a good facility. A shame about the staff and sales people. I signed my contract in the month of April 2022. Virgin advertised bags with new memberships. To date I have requested the staff at reception to get someone at sales to

  • Jonathan Diederichs

Nice gym. Even when it’s busy there are usually still machines open. Staff are friendly and helpful. Only thing that’s a downside really is they play the music quite loud at times (annoying when you’re trying to listen to your own music)

  • Colin Wardle

Great range of classes and amenities. The staff and instructors are also always there with a helpful smile. It’s a very popular spot though so prepare to queue for some of the equipment, which unfortunately is also a bit old at times.

  • Thomas Hudson

Best gym I've been to in Cape Town I think Not too crowded, clean changerooms, toilets, shower, and sauna, very well run classes, and easy to get to, with free secure parking right next to the N1 Just needs to open on the weekends

  • Robert De Florenca

2 or 3 years old now this flagship gym has all the facilities with ample free 2 hour parking for members. Conveniently located just off the N1 highway, it’s a breeze to get in and out of the gym in the mornings an evenings.

  • Dr Lance Heath

Love the adherence to COVID-19 protocols... maybe it's because this gym is literally under a hospital. People even wear their masks in the changing areas... which makes sense seeing the virus has no qualms entering these.

  • Gcobisa Nokwabuza

I love this gym , its very neat and well maintained. I particularly love the group excersizes / classes , those I worth doing especially for someone that needs guidance in terms of training. The friendliest staff ever

  • Michael Walker

Was interesting going back to gym post lockdown, the protocols they have in place made me feel bit better, although I just went straight to the pool to swim, so haven't tried the rest of the gym out, maybe next week!

  • Siseko Mabaleka

Worked out at VA Foreshore this morning. It is the best out of all I have ever been to. Great views of the city and mountain. On the weights department, you get to view the Harbour and the freeway to The Waterfront.

  • Dan RENEGADE

Great little club with a spectacular view of TABLE MOUNTAIN from the studio... A real pity this club could not accommodate my request for music in studio, they were apologetic but totally unwilling to accommodate...

  • Cecily Cridland

I got sick in the changing room yesterday and the staff were phenomenal. Thank you for your care and concern. I was taken to hospital by the paramedics and now I'm on the road to recovery. See you again soon.

  • Zizo None

Staff is extremely well mannered they greet everytime you walk in the gym is quite spacious, however more suitable for people who like doing cardio as they have fewer equipment for weight lifting than cardio

  • Buyisiwe Shongwe

I love Virgin Active!! This one didn’t disappoint. Fresh, breezy, bright and clean. Makes you feel like a really good workout. Stop by and get something at the Nu restaurant downstairs. Really worth it.

  • Rowan Dunbar

So far this is one of my favourite Virgin Active gym’s in the area. Well maintained and friendly staff. The only downside I find, is that the gym is closed on Sunday. I enjoy doing my day 1 on a Sunday.

  • Richie Winning

Horrific customer service. Told on an email an hour ago 1250 in cash for a month membership, went to the ATM, got the cash then told its 1625 when I arrived. And have a friend that pays 600R too a month

  • Darren Salkinder

Great selection of machinery. Inside pool and an in gym Nu for foods and smoothies. Very friendly trainers. Very clean and while it is always busy. We haven never had an issue finding a machine to use.

  • William van Eeden

It's a nice gym, but definitely not the best VA in Cape Town. It feels "hollow" inside. The floor moves when you run on the treadmills. The showers and steam room is massive though. This is awesome.

  • Gabriel Wessels

I just love this gym. Its new, clean and the staff are always friendly. The location is perfect for people that work in the city or anyone that just want a quiet workout on the weekends

  • Sarah Brittan

Always enjoy my workouts here. Staff are friendly and helpful. Facilities are well maintained, just wish there was a way to dry hands in bathroom without having to have your own towel.

  • David Robertson

This Virgin Active is quieter than the others in town, is in better condition than Wembley and has the best, most friendly staff! Been going here for over 4 years and have no regrets.

  • Brenden Taylor

Really friendly staff greeted me at the front. Otherwise it's got all the usual equipment, with a nice floor area upstairs. Also not too busy on weekends so lots of parking available.

  • Jackie Zils

great very modern very upmarket gym..where the serious gymers hang out..sauna and steam room has been swtiched on again ..but not on full steam. the gym finds itself in a hospital

  • Aldo Canosci

Great gym. Good clean facilities. My only gripe is that the all the treadmills are not tuned in to the tv stations or have no reception at all. I have raised this with the staff.

  • Mo Ph

Parking was painful. Small congested winding up garage, tricky to maneuver during peak hours. I did not like it. But my PT is there so I have no choice but to go again.

  • Aileen Griggs

This Virgin Active has a great layout. The studio upstairs is a bit small as it is sometimes over crowded. Great classes. Healthy Kauai. Big pool and clean bathrooms.

  • ian Cridland

Not often that staff knows your and your family members names before you swipe your card. One of the cleanest Virgin actives. Patrons are like one big family here.

  • Jan Visagie

New, clean and never crowded. Only problem is soccer teams coming for group training and turns the weights section into a circuit while the circuit area is empty.

  • Leo Manciya

This is my everyday gym. The staff is amazing and very kind. The shower water is hot, equipment is clean. There's a mini restuarant inside for healthy meals.

  • Allie Hunt

Asked Whaleed at reception why the gym has no stair access ? Only lifts to get to the gym ? Some of us prefer to take the stairs - still waiting for a reply.

  • marco worship

Almost daily used... Friendly staff and Facilities are good modern equipment for training...enough for the average trainer. Swimming pool sauna steam room..

  • Charly V

Warning! Definetly dont use the gym as a tourist. 6 month after leavin cape town they start to book money from my bank account. 0 Stars! I keep you upated.

  • Xabiso Godongwana

Great facilities. One of the best Virgin Active gyms in the country. Very good and friendly staff. Amazing views of the city while you workout there.

  • Sean Von Der Decken

A really amazing gym, not to busy that you can't move. However the Grid class is awful, the instructor does the class for herself not the members

  • Nick Paul

Nice new clean gym, a bit small sometimes without all the equipment of some of the others, still a good option if you're after a quiet session.

  • Nasiphi Dlulane

Their steam room produces little to no steam. If you’re looking to use the gym for this facility I recommend you sign up with another club.

  • Aidan van Vuuren

Would be 5 stars if it was better spec'ed, missing a couple of key apparatus and a better sized weight training area. Otherwise a great gym

  • Kuven Lalbeharee

Very nice gym, has a huge support column in the middle of the pool - one less lane available. Nice views onto the highway into Cape town.

  • John Cena

just seen Aaron’s video (one of their customers) and their service was appalling. I’m not sure why people even bother going to this gym

  • Claudia Levy

One of my favourite gyms to train in. Always fresh and clean! They have a great Management team who work with enthusiasm at all times!

  • Veruschka Lala

Always clean and you never need to wait to use the equipment. It would be nice if more cycle classes are introduced in the evenings!

  • Zipho Hadebe

The staff is friendly and courteous. The gym could do with more equipment like another smith machine. Overall not a bad experience.

  • Nevin Thebus

Love this gym. Staff are very friendly. Equipment is great and not outdated and often restored. Space is clean and well maintained.

  • Edwina Africa

Beautiful gym, nice friendly staff, the pool I enjoy, theres always space available to use equipment and the nice classes they have

  • Ryan Solomon

Best virgin in CT, will be coming here more often than not. Only thing, parking can be a bit of a pain and don't like the 2hr cap

  • Armien Arend

Excellent club with awesome instructors. 2 hours free parking. Has every you need to get fit and strong or whatever your goal is

  • Megz Barefoot

A lovely gym, awesome equipment, and friendly staff. Always clean. 2 hours free parking. I always feel so yuppie when I go here!

  • Pravesh Valab

great gym with most facilities except child care. also parking is only free for 2 hours which makes long gym sessions difficult

  • Shana Benjamin

Staff is amazing and the service outstanding. The entire vibe of the gym is just so welcoming and the hygiene is on point!

  • Brendan Watson

When it's not busy I love working out here. It's always clean, the staff are always friendly and the view is stunning.

  • Muhammad Shaheen Kajee

The gym is great. But their parking is a disaster. Also, closing early on a Saturday and not open at all on a Sunday?

  • Karien Verster

Nice gym with all the amenities you want... Almost anyway. Can only be made better if they built some squash courts.

  • Fourie Rossouw

Always pumping and busy, but with friendly staff and a well managed environment, it’s one of Cape Town best gyms.

  • Khayelihle Tshuma

It's a lovely clean gym. Weights area is not as spacious though. Swimming pool yoga personal trainers available.

  • Devan Pulliah

Great modern gym with all the necessary equipment... Free parking for 2 hours... Great views while you gym...

  • Paul Van Heerden

Great gym friendly service with great facilities smack bang In the middle of the city. Awesome experience.

  • Azhar

Staff very unfriendly and not helpful at all. Many of them stroll around the gym not doing anything useful

  • Klaas Carstens

Used to be a 5 star gym, but is now closed on Sundays and Public Holidays. Still highly recommend though.

  • Sahndya Naidoo

It's OK, not the best gym. Once you sign up they forget about you. After sales customer service lacking

  • Buyelwa mpepho

I don't know what to say about this gym I love it every thing about it is great clean, friendly people

  • Arno Tietz-Geldenhuys

Steamriom door need to be replaced. Every week there are issues. And past few days steamroom is cold

  • michael de jesus

Always clean and all equipment in working order. Well managed and staff always friendly and helpful.

  • Thula G
