Just another GREAT CHINESE KITCHEN. I've heard horror stories about one of the workers that goes by the street name of Coda. How true these stories are are out of my knowledge but meeting the man in person would be unpleasant to say the least. Most of the food is tasty but at times inconsistent as i heard a microwave beeper go off numerous times. Waiting times are that of a normal 'restaurant' and you can see most of the cooking that goes on. I must say however, the addition of the open-plan kitchen really adds a nice touch to the place and creates a sense of authenticity as you can see how and when your food is being made. Update: I have now heard Coda has been let go, props to the workers and owner who made this happen. Great job. Finding this out, i have gained a sense of respect of this place and am sure to return. I also encountered a boy named Jason when I dropped in last time, his english skills were great and apparently his mathematics too as he let me in on the fact that he was 2nd in his year. I had a quick conversation with him and learned he is an excellent worker who has a passion for his job. If I was the owner i'd be giving him a raise! Cheers, Saggie

Left my review from 3 years ago as addendum below. Interim, had food from this place one other time and it wasn't terrible, so decided to give it another try. What a horrendous mistake. Horrible food. Got the lemon chicken again, and salt and pepper calamari. The lemon chicken is so obviously re-fried in old oil: The batter is a deep brown with a slight bitter old-oil taste. The chicken inside is hard, dry and rubbery. The salt and pepper calamari is freshly fried, with a more golden batter, but the calamari inside is so old that you can see wrinkled and dried freezer burns on the edges. For $17 per dish, it is absolutely horrible. (my review from 3 years ago.......) Terrible and expensive for what it is. Bought lemon chicken today for $15, and they served old fried chicken that was, so obviously, refried. The laksa was watered down and bland, like they didn't know how much water to add to the laksa paste out of a can. Yuck.

I normally buy the lunch special here and on some occasions buy dinner also. Today I went to buy the large honey chicken fried rice special for $9.50. I ordered and the man said $11.50 please? I said the sign says $9.50 he replied with I have to cook a fresh batch of chicken, well I’m sorry but don’t advertise a $9.50 price and then charge a premium that’s NOT advertised anywhere on the sign! I told him to forget about it to which he slammed the bay Maree lid hard with aggression. To add to my disgust, you see the cooks having a smoke just outside and it wofts in the shop,also picking their teeth as they walk around the cooking appliances waiting for things to cook! No hand washing technique needed for this foul shop.

Valentine’s Day was busy but the wait wasn’t bad. Spent $140 and I could not finish my plate due to flavour. I had to take to some dishes with scissors as the chef couldn’t slice the meat all the way through. Some dishes under sauced other dishes over salted. There’s no consistency, I assume they drag in cooks from wherever when busy. To see Chinese leftovers not reheated in my fridge means I wasn’t the only critic that night. When you charge as much as you do guys, ensure you get it right. I can’t recommend this place, just like forest Gumps chocolate box, you never know what you going to get.

Came in today to have a munch on some chicken fried rice, and chicken fried rice was what i received. A delicious white rice surrounded by umami flavours that complement each other perfectly. It was the first time I've come into this restaurant and will certainly not be the last. Finally, I have found my next go to Chinese kitchen. Props to the chefs, owners and workers who do an excellent job of making my experience that much better. A bit pricey, but if that is the cost i have to pay for great food, i'm happy to do so. Can I give 4.5 stars? Visited a few years ago and wasn't overly impressed - food was decent, but nothing special. But . . . Visited again last week and boy what an improvement. Whilst this isn't my first stop in the area to grab takeaway, it is a close second AND it is open for lunch and dinner (except Sunday). Be warned, the interior is nothing special and this isn't the place to sit down for a romantic candle lit dinner with your partner (when COVID lockdowns are finished). But if you want good takeaway Chinese at very reasonable prices, then this is the place for you!

The fried rice , dims sims and the beef chow mien was awful!!! We have ordered 3 times from this restaurant via Uber Eats, the first time the food was good, second time average, this time awful! The dim sims were awful, deep fried and all batter, the filling etc meat was almost non existent. The fried rice and the beef chow mien were flavour less! We definitely will not order from there again!! Total waste of $57 !!

Definitely worthwhile adding to your list of consistently high quality Take-Away restaurants. They are a real "punch above their weight" restaurant who also go out of their way to tweak to suit. 5 stars

My favourite regular dine and take away food whenever I want Asian food. Love especially the special fried rice, crispy beef in plum sauce, combination omelette, and their stir-fried vegetables. Paul is very friendly and attentive to all his customers.

Portions were very small, greazy and lacking taste. Sorry won't be back and it didn't solve my craving for Chinese. Ordered vegetable chow mein and had very little veges and lots of soft noodles. Omelette was over salted by a mile. The special fried rice was tasteless

I used to order from here to my workplace, at the beginning it was massive portions, good packaging then portion started getting smaller with the time on the other hand quality dropped. 2 days ago I walked in ordered some take away such as honey prawns, prawn toasties and large fried rice. Luckily I work at the hospital because had food posioning.

Where do i start about this place? The food is always great and up to my standards. I love the food here it is so delicious and not mention the employees. The customer service here is beyond a 5 out of 5 star. They are so friendly and welcoming and really makes the customers feel at home. Waitara Kitchen is a 5/5 for not only the delicious food but also for the great customer service.

We ordered food online for pick up. Used the website and paid easily with no issue. Received text message on estimated time to pick up. Punctual. Delicious food (we got fried rice, lemon chicken, eggplant and pork, prawn chips). Friendly service. QR code scan check in available. The place is currently quite small to dine in, so would recommend take away.

I love the Peking pork chop, the best ever.

The family loves Waitara Kitchen takeaway! Good old style Australian Chinese food. All the dishes you know and love. Highly recommend. In fact I feel like a beef and black bean right now. ❤️

Really tasty! Mapo tofu mince was fresh and you could taste the Sichuan pepper oil. Lovely fish and snow peas and the braised tofu sauce was so good we ordered extra rice to mop up. There's an attention to detail you can taste. Peter the owner is really friendly. I recommend calling up and ordering directly from the shop

Used to be a favourite Chinese to order through Menulog but last night we received fried rice that smelt, looked at tasted burnt! Absolutely disgusting. The person who dished it up would have been able to smell it a mile off, but they still sent it out. That is our last order ever from Waitara Kitchen Chinese Cuisine

After ordering some food for dinner from this restaurant, I was rather disappointed based on the other reviews I have read. Their special fried rice was overly flavourful and their teriyaki beef doesn't taste like teriyaki nor it is reminiscent of it. The price is acceptable, but I wouldn't be ordering here again.

Ordered from here tonight, food was absolutely delicious. The kitchen forgot the prawn crackers so we called them to notify and the lovely man that answered the phone immediately offered to deliver the prawn crackers to us. This was a lovely gesture and we will be coming back!!! 5 stars!! …

Just horrible. All I could taste was salt. Pepper Steak was so salty I could not even taste the pepper. Even the BBQ Pork in Plum sauce was salty., The Dim Sims were small deep fried balls with no flavour. Sorry, won't be back

the food is usually great, and the fried duck is a favourite. however that does not matter if you deliver someone else's order and it arrives late after the restaurant closes. I hope the people that got our order enjoyed it. I could not eat their order. no dinner tonight.

Been ordering from this place since 2009 and it's honestly a diamond in the rough. Legit never been able to find a better laksa anywhere. Just a shame its in a difficult spot to get to without a car but if i lived closer i'd be eating out of here weekly at least.

Went there tonight 10 of us. What more could I say!! Service was amazing, fresh and quick. Very busy place for takeaways, portion wise, very good quantity, and quality is awesome. Would recommend anyone there. Great affordable meal in Waitara and Hornsby area.

Is walkable distance from the hospital so I gave it a try. Was alright. Feels like those old Chinese take out from years ago. Not spectacular but it is what I expect from Chinese takeout. I would have it again, because can’t walk elsewhere.

Food was really bad quality. Tasted like leftovers from a couple days ago, wouldn't surprise me if it was.

Honestly not so great food. The San choy bow was very very salty. The sweet and sour pork was basically just fat, and the chicken satay was very bland. The corn and chicken soup was the only nice thing but nothing spectacular.

The BBQ Pork W/ Chilli Sauce was decent although not worth the price. The rice tasted very dry, and tasted more like it was cooked in a microwave than a rice cooker.

So tasty! My go-tos are the Honey Chicken, Cripsy Beef with Plum Sauce, and Fried Rice! A little on the pricy side but worth it as you can usually get leftovers out of it.
