I visited the AMC Houston 8 for the first time today. The ticket/seat reservation process from the website was as expected. I'm a member of the AMC Stubbs so I didn't pay any online fees. When I arrived, the theater was not crowded (it was Saturday afternoon) and pickup of my pre-ordered snacks was easy. The lobby was clean and the staff person who scanned my ticket was friendly while directing me to my movie. This theater offered reserved traditional seats, not recliners, and the seats are some sort of fabric. Several seats in my area were fairly worn and had a few visible holes. The air seemed still in #5 and it was a little humid, but not freezing or too hot. Commercials were played on the speakers before the movie and then at the scheduled showtime the lights dimmed and the projector started the previews. The sound was good and the picture clear and bright during the movie. The women's restroom wasn't very clean. One sink was hanging from the under the counter. At least soap and paper towels were available. I honestly don't know if I will return to this theater. With the pay-parking situation, I'll probably drive farther out to get to a nicer theater, unless there was a reason to be downtown. I'm not opposed to paying to park but if I'm going to do that, I want it to be to for a good reason. (With tickets, snacks, and parking, I could almost have paid to see this movie from home.) Note: If you park under the theater, the green Stair X and elevator (see attached picture) lead directly outside the theater entrance. It's also card-only, but the machines worked well to pay and exit. I love movies and I want to support nearby theaters so I'll be trying the others out too. I hope the AMC Houston 8 perks up as people return to see movies.

BEWARE to all. I decided to see Sound of Freedom a second time, but this time, at this location since it's in almost walking distance to my home; however, YUUGGGEEEEE mistake. Movie started at 11 a.m., which was the first showing, and the popcorn given was cold, they had to check on the hot dog to ensure it was even ready, and every single lady at the refreshment counter seemed to be in another land because they were not the least bit concerned about being at work. I gave the popcorn back, asked for a fresh batch to be made, which the manager did bring it to me in the theatre. That said, the hot dog was somewhat cold and the bun was hard. If that was not enough, the RESTROOM was filtheeeeee [sic]. You could tell it had not be cleaned that morning or the previous night, as the movie theatre was akin to a ghost town since it was before 11 a.m. Not to mention, you could see the disposable slot for the feminine products was filled to the brim and open, little to no toilet tissue in the stall, and I could go on and on. I proceeded to ask for the manager, explained my disappointment from the outset of deciding to give them my business, he apologized and said someone would clean the restroom. Shouldn't it have already been cleaned before we arrived? You see, if I'm not nasty at home, I frown upon filth when a place has the means to be clean. The toilet wouldn't flush a second time after the water had filled either. They will NEVER get my business any longer, and I would warn anyone reading this particular review of "Buyer Beware." I would absolutely give them a negative 0 if I could but, unfortunately, that's not an option.

Honestly the worst movie experience! I typically check reviews before I go anywhere but thought because of the area it wasn't necessary. Now, I see other movie goers share similar experiences. Food at the concession was not prepared for sale despite being open for business. The concession team member told me a hot dog would take 30-45 minutes to prepare because they were still frozen and this was at 10:45. That's unacceptable and indicative of an absence of preparedness. I settled for just ordering an icee which is one of the quintessential components of the movie going experience and it tasted like water. I got a fountain drink instead and I could taste that the machine wasn't in correct working order and they didn't have lemonade which was my first choice. I'm writing this as I'm waiting for the movie to start and the theater I'm in has a clear sound issue. The whole experience breathes lack of proper upkeep and negligence in ensuring a quality guest experience. I will be escalating my concerns through the proper channels but I'm certain management sees these reviews. As I'm presently having similar experiences as those who've previously visited and reviewed this theater, I doubt there be much effort invested in taking the necessary steps to improve. My word of advise, go somewhere else!

I just visited this theatre with a group of friends and we enjoyed it. The service by the staff and bartender was fantastic. Everyone was patient and helpful. The theatre looked updated and clean. The floors in the theater we were in were due for new paint but overall very nice theatre. Our theatre appeared clean and neat upon arrival and the chairs were comfy. Sadly they do not recline, which was disappointing, especially for the price being $31 for 2 tickets for a 5pm showing. I do agree with other reviewers, if you are going to charge that much please upgrade your seats to recliners at least. I did give 4 stars for the parking, restrooms, and the price. We ended up carpooling and using valet parking for $20 because we had a hard time finding parking. The valet only takes cash no cards. So bring cash if you plan on valet parking. I highly recommend Ubering or carpooling so you don’t have to fight with parking. The ladies restroom wasn’t very clean and smelled. It wasn’t horrible but wasn’t great either. Overall I think this is a nice theatre with a bar. The drinks were good and the popcorn was good. I would definitely go again and I recommend visiting.

this is the most worst movie theater i’ve ever been to in my ENTIRE life today i went to go see the new barbie movie and i expected to be cold because its. summer time and its hot but in the theater its fricken 100 degrees in here it got so hot to the point i was fighting the urge to strip down infront of everyone in here, secondly the HIGH PRICES i saw a meal package for the barbie movie and it was 66 DOLLARS FOR THAT SMALL LITTLE MEAL like come on now- we already spent have of our life savings on tickets why charge us for some stale snacks- yall already know at the end of the day yall gon be millionaires because of people buying them high meal packs- 3rd they had 50 minutes of ads playing before the movie started they even made their own movie about their stale snacks 4th their seats are broken and doesnt even go up all the way now i know yall can afford better seat with them prices yall have 16 dollars for some nasty flavorless popcorn i hate this movie theater with all my love and power even a not so big movie theater has better quality than this goodbye

The movie theater experience is not what it used to be. Not sure if this makes sense, but it smells wet in the theaters and especially when you are walking in. I could have walked right to the theater rooms because there was no attendant at the designated booth by the register. One of the attendants told me Theater 1 after she scanned my ticket so I got there quickly to get my seat. Something told me this didn’t feel right as I saw the previews. I went back outside to the front and asked to double check. Another attendant told me it was Theater 7. I informed her that another attendant, who I acknowledged behind the register told me 1. She looked at me, no apology and walked off. Luckily, I got there right when the movie was starting. It was late at night when the movie ended so the staff was already beginning to clean up. There were boxes and trash all over the ground and it was a sore sight to see as I was happy after seeing such an awesome movie. Definitely going to try another movie theater because honestly movie tickets are too expensive for a sub par experience.

  • Danielle Moore

This was hands down the worse AMC that I have ever been too. The facility was so dirty, the staff was unprofessional and the quality of the experience was not even a 1 star experience. I went this weekend and the individual taking our tickets was sitting in a chair and had the worse attitude. Did not provide us with any direction to where the theater was located just scanned the ticket and went to the next customer. The restroom was a disaster and the nastiest place I have seen in a while. A toilet had overflowed and instead of them cleaning the water they just put the "trip hazard" signs up so every stall you went into had toilet water and wet toilet paper on the floor. This was the only restroom in the theater so you had no choice but to use the bathroom. The theatre itself was hold with torn seats, sticky substances on the arm rest and tables and trash everyone. This is completely unacceptable especially being a downtown location. I will never ever ever return.

  • Rita Barnard

Parking is difficult and expensive. If you valet park, you just have to pay it. If you park in the garage, they give you credit in food or drinks. The theater was not clean. Bathrooms were nasty. The movie never started. We had to go get help...they finally got the movie to start, about 40 minutes late, but it only played for about an hour. They couldn’t get it to finish. The only good thing about this experience was the manager. He could not refund our money, but he gave us coupons that we could use at any AMC theater. This was good, since we don’t live in Houston...he was very apologetic about our experience and truly tried to make it better.

  • S. Johnson

Love this movie theater. I haven’t experienced the woes of some of the reviewers. It’s not a bougie theater. It’s downtown, affordable, and you get to walk out to a nice skyline. Movies are normal. Street parking you have to pay and is hard to find at times and bums are out and about, but once again it’s downtown. No audio or visual issue in any movie I’ve viewed. Customer service is friendly, and there always seems to be an officer there in the front to provide safety for moviegoers. No complaints. Wait… the bathrooms… oh well haven’t seen a nice one of those yet anywhere.

  • Monica Welter

I used to come here before when it was Sundance Cinema. Ever since AMC bought them out, this theater had gone down drastically. I hadn't been here in a long while but it's very convenient because it's close to home. I will never come here again. First off the air feels stagnant. As if the A/C is not working. The area where we were sitting was absolutely filthy. The floor was disgusting, the seats were dirty and the armrest where you put your drink and food was sticky and stained with food. If I ever by any slim chance come here again, I'd only do so wearing a hazmat suit.

  • Charlie Murphy

With all the bad reviews of this place, I was expecting this place to some halfway house in the ghetto. But I went and it’s totally fine. Though I do admit I don’t go to movies often and maybe this theater doesn’t offer the latest and greatest technology… who knows. Either way, I enjoyed the movie. Floors were a little sticky and the self service kiosks were either broken or you had to try multiple times to get it to read your card, but otherwise good. The popcorn and soda were good. Seats were relatively comfy. The sound and picture quality was good too.

  • Megan F

Such a depressing and sticky place. The theater floor was slick with what I hope was popcorn grease. The chair fabric was ripping and smelled like a couch left out in the rain. The arm rests also had a sticky film on them and the bathrooms were just wet and disgusting. The movie itself was great but it seemed like they only had the front speaker working so it was quite quiet which was sad because the movie had great music and sound effects. Overall, if Ipic is booked when you want to go see a movie, find another time, this place isn’t it.

  • Andrew Collazo

Audio is actually horrible, WAY too loud but not in a good way, unbalanced, as if it has no bass. I dont like how theres a space between every 2 seats, like what if you come with more than 2 people? One of them dosent get to sit next to you? Also, they smelled and felt greasy. The staff is freindly and its always semi empty, and i do like the underground parking, so its not all bad. Unless your ok with a subpar viewing experience or you HAVE to see a film in downtown, dont waste your money and go to the AMC 30 thats only 15 min away.

  • Patrick Margain

Really bad movie theater. Worst I have been to in Houston. Movie had a curtain over the top half of the screen and volume was really really low. I think the speakers were broken or something. I went to talk to the people at the front and saw other people complaining about the same thing. They gave me my money back and staff was friendly. But the actual facilities are old, dirty, smelly, and clearly not working properly. You're better off watching movies at home or driving a little farther out for a decent theater.

  • Rob Scherer

The theater can't be blamed for the quality of the movie. The concessions were high priced (also on par with AMCs everywhere) but the quality was good. The Service gets the stars. The Team Members moved and responded with the customer service I remember from days gone by. I never expected smiles and thank you from Theater employees. The Team sold the AMC experience way more than the commercial on the screen did. Thank you, AMC employees. You made an evening at the picture show a fond memory.

  • Jim James

Don't be fooled: AMC 8 Houston downtown does not valid tickets for parking if you enter after 4:00PM. After 4PM the garage charges $15 to park. The theater will give you $15 of concessions but WILL NOT validate a parking ticket. $15 at the AMC Concession stand will get you 2 bottles of water or 2 candy bars. If you read in some promo material that AMC 8 Downtown will valid your parking don't believe it. Just ask Mick, the unsympathetic manager that I talked to, and she will confirm it.

  • Kyle Trout

Free parking in theater district parking garage entrance 5 across the street. Older theater but seats were comfortable. Concessions were good. Staff was friendly and validated our parking. We were in theater 4 and had no complaints. There were no holes in the seats and it wasn’t dirty. Only reason I give it a 4 instead of a 5 is that it needs to be remodeled in certain areas, and you have to walk all way around to entrance 1 of the garage to get back to your car if it’s late.

  • Monique Richardson

Come on, AMC! Y'all have a location at the center of the city and have done ZERO to update the place. I saw TMNT last week at an amazing AMC theater and was excited to take my son tonight. Though he enjoyed the movie, I was disappointed that he couldn't have the same experience that I did. As a truck driver and a Stubs member I see movies all over the country and this is close to the bottom of the probably 30+ theaters I've been to. The staff, on the other hand, !

  • Karmelita Straight

I paid $12.00 for a movie ticket and $12.00 to park to see the movie. I went to see Advengers: End Game on Sun. May 26th, 2019 at 6:00pm. It was played in room/theater 7. There was trash on the floor and in the seats from the pervious movie shown. The restroom was dirty and trash can overflowing. There is rust on the handle and back of the toilet. For the following reasons stated above is why I gave this establishment 1 star rating, and I would not recommend it.

  • Ericka Lewis

I haven’t been to this location since before covid. A few years ago this theatre was top notch. I went yesterday night and it was disappointing. The theatre lacks good upkeep. The theatre chairs were torn, super roughly, stained, and the arm rests were greasy. It also didn’t look like the theatre walkways were cleaned in between showings either. Compared to the tons of other nice theaters in Houston, I won’t be going back to AMC 8. Management was very helpful.

  • Wes Wesson

Worst theater I've been to in recent memory. The top of the screen was cutoff by a curtain that came down during previews. I reported this to an attendant and they did nothing. Bathroom looked like warzone as you can see in the picture. When we got out of the movie, all the lights were off, no employees were around, and it was difficult to find the exit since most of the doors were blocked. I'd highly recommend staying away from this place.

  • AwesomeIsawesomevids

Was trying to buy tickets online and it charged me without actually going through with the purchase! It straight up ripped me off, if you're gonna get movie tickets, don't use their site! There's no way to get a refund when this happens unless you wait 3-5 business days, or so their site says. I've emailed them, but it shouldn't have done it in the first place. Now we probably won't even be able to see the movie. Do better AMC.

  • Ashley Miller

Would rate it a zero if I could. This use to be my favorite location! They have let this location go downhill which is crazy because its located downtown! It definitely needs renovations! The seats are badly damaged with holes and stains and the theaters smell wet on the inside. Also the restrooms are always dirty! If they do minor improvements I’m sure they’ll get the business they deserve but until then no, the place stinks!

  • Jaymarie Dixon

A little pricey, but a nice enough venue. Decent drinks. The speakers in the theatres were rather loud and had too much bass, but not painfully so. We'll come back here if we feel like spending the money, but really you can watch the same movie elsewhere with better sound for half the price. I give it 4 stars because others may enjoy the small art gallery and vibe there. It also is one stop for food, drinks, and snacks.

  • Jestine Jonel

I feel bad for the employees. They deserve to work in a better environment. As a customer, seeing that EVERY seat was ripped in the theatre is CRAZY. AMC please invest in creating better work environments for employees, and for customers. The bathrooms look like they were built in the 80s with no renovations in sight, and to make matters even worse, they were also very dirty. The bar is clearly in hell, so sad.

  • katie thomas

Really good movey. Sadely, they did not let me come in the movey with my Camera. I told dem I want to just record movey so my cancer Mama can see. But no. Scotty refused to let my Cancer Mama see her favorute movey. Word of advice, Don’t bring camera. Or cancer patients. Scotty will eat u and throw out your cancer patients hopes and dreams. He also throws out your ultra hd sony 4k cyber shot mega camera.

  • Haley Lopez

It is so HOT in the theatre. We walked in and it was super cold in the lobby, but beyond that be ready to sweat. I saw someone else on here say “it smells wet” and that is so true. The seats are disgusting and need to be replaced. Theatre 8 specifically had all these issues on top of a BIG RED BAR FLASHING periodically across the screen the whole movie. Needless to say we are never coming back again.

  • Ana Medina

SO UNFORTUNATE that this is the only movie theater in the area and its freaking disgusting!!! NO FREE PARKING! Worst theater I’ve been to, even compared to others in sketchy parts of town. The bathrooms were filthy. The theater room was stuffy; they must have an AC problem. There was a musty smell inside the theater room. The seats are fabric and some torn!! It needs to be upgraded ASAP!

  • Nadiya Lewis

This place is disgusting bathroom are a mess. No soap to wash hands sink didn’t work. Seats are old stand and ripped once I seen the seats I went and immediately got a refund. for it to be in the heart of Houston is very disappointing for it to look the way it did. I’ll stick to studio movie grill who keep up with there bathroom and have nice seat that reclines.

  • Suzy Philip

Haven’t been to movies in a while, won’t be doing it again anytime soon. The 2.5 hour movie was long enough but 30 mins (after showing time) we are still watching movie trailers. Not acceptable to be so careless with other peoples time. Don’t even get me started on the prices at the concession stand. 9+ for small popcorn….. I will stay home and stream instead.

  • Matthew McCarthy

One of the worst AMC's I've ever been to. They had nothing in stock on the food menu, through the entire previews and beginning of the movie there was a curtain covering the top of the movie screen (I went and told management and they fixed it), and the seats were disgusting and torn apart. See the pictures below. Will never be back. Do better AMC.

  • Mikairi Jones

Not my best movie experience. The seats were a bit outdated, not that I minded, but the staff was rude. I went to watch a movie with my sister and one of the employee’s, a girl with grey highlights, kept whispering snide remarks about us! We did nothing to warrant such behavior, yet felt so unwelcome. Definitely don’t come here, I know I won’t be.

  • Alexus Metoyer

Went seen a movie before our concert started! We parked in the parking lot in front the theater with no problems! Did not purchase any food or beverage! The movie theater itself needs renovations! B&Bs have recliners this theater still have seats from the 90s! The staff was cool and helpful! Cool spot to pass time before a downtown event lol

  • Yesenia Lopez

I hope they renovate soon! The entrance is beautiful and the staff are very helpful. This movie theater is in such a great location, but the seats and bathroom were in dire need of cleaning and upgrades. During the movie you could hear the extreme bass from the movie next door. It just doesn’t live up to other AMC theaters and experiences.

  • Sew Rich

Very nice. Pretty clean movie theater located downtown. Free parking after 6 p.m. was hard to find. Underground event parking was, on average, $20. Went on a night for a special showing so no crowd present. Staff was helpful. I would go back again but that parking wasn’t easy. Would definitely take the Metrorail there if that’s an option.

  • Hernan Flores

Convenient location but definitely needs some renovation inside. Seats had holes, restrooms were dirty and audio wasnt great. Parking is horrible since it's in downtown. Everyone was friendly but definitely needs better management. I still like coming here since there's usually not many people. The location is great though .

  • Nathan Sims

If you want to see a movie and don’t care about how nice or new the theatre is then this place is good. We go to this location because it’s within walking distance and has never been packed. We had A list before Covid and it was great to watch movies here whenever we wanted. I like the old feel and small size.

  • Charolette Staten

First visit here as AMC GulfPointe 30 is my movie home. The atmosphere was pleasant. It was clean. I love the seating with the additional cup holder and arm rest. Gulf Pointe doesn't have that. I love the AMC app because it allows all transactions to flow with ease. Great movie experience overall.

  • Andrew Peng

This AMC theater is the reason why no one wants to go to movie theaters anymore. Sticky floors, dirty interior, lukewarm air conditioning, and non-functional soda fountains and no water available - but they'll be more than happy to sell you bottled water for $5! Why would anyone pay to go here?

  • Elliott Martinez

in a nutshell: This is a slightly below average movie theater in an amazing location that is under staffed. It can be one of the best AMC theaters in Houston with more staff and maintenance. Honestly, my favorite part of the theater is that it felt safe as they, at least, had security on staff.

  • Charles Nevle

I used to really like this theater, but it has gone way, way, way downhill. Dirty, sticky floors, smelly theater and the seats in my theater all looked like they had been slashed with a knife. Bathroom was disgusting. This is by far the most convenient theater for me, but won’t be going back.

  • Jacqueline Hawk-Cotten

We went to the opening of Barbie on Friday. I was expecting a big time event. There wasn’t even a poster for the Barbie movie. Everyone was dressed up and ready to go and AMC didn’t do a dang thing. I’ll go to Studio Movie grill next time. They at least understand how to do a grand opening.

  • Mason Hunt

This is a horrible waste of a prime location for a movie theater in the downtown of one of the largest cities in America. AMC management, get your act together and clean this location up. Upgrade the seats and the bathrooms and modernize a bit and you’ll attract quite a few more people.

  • Miranda Stabler

This was hands down the dirtiest theater I’ve ever been too. It looked like they hadn’t cleaned in months, maybe longer. Plus after fee and taxes, $34 for two tickets and there wasn’t even reclining seats. The seats looked like they had been slashed with knives. Will not be returning.

  • Ivan Bocanegra

I like going here out of convenience but it’s severely understaffed and in active decay—restrooms are always filthy, falling apart, rusting; theaters are dirty and sticky; and service is poor, but I don’t blame the employees, they have too much to do and don’t seem to have support.

  • Jonathan Reichel

Sorry I've yet to have anything other than an absolutely outstanding experience here. Seen several movies. Theater's always clean, the concession stand is always quick, the prices are reasonable. The sound quality and the people attending are always solid.

  • Melissa Morgan

David was very helpful! We were needing to get reimbursed for our parking and David was gracious enough to help resolve that. THEN I left my keys in the theater and he walked us back in and turned on the lights to help find them. Great customer service!!

  • Eric Sims

Many of the seats are worn down and some are broken. And for some reason they alway leave the lights on when the trailers start so it’s hard to see when it’s a dark screen trailer. Overall though the staff are nice and they keep it relatively clean.

  • Oscar Ramirez

We got a voucher, for parking. We don't drive, though. The employee thinks. She fixed the problem My son and I were not gonna pay that, anyway. We were on foot **That is what cost them, that 5th star. Other than that ..? I still, would go back

  • Alison Reeves

Most of the seats in the theater I was in have holes with the foam showing through, it’s super gross staff is great But I can’t imagine coming back with how gross the theater was. We used to come all the time when it was Sundance. Wth happened

  • Matt Bennett

I’m sitting in this theater 45 minutes after the show was supposed to begin. Nothing, nada, zip, black screen. How far it’s fallen from what it once was when Sundance or Angelika owned it (bathrooms have reached peak gross-ness)…. …

  • Erika Sanchez

It was a great experience, David was very helpful and genuinely went above and beyond when I came into the theater. It was fast, easy fix when I ordered my tickets online by mistake and was able to see the movie! Thanks again David!

  • Adam Bazzi

The theatre was gross and the seats were worn and torn up. There was a long wait time for a single hotdog. The staff was rude at every single interaction. Overall, stay far away. I don’t even think this place deserves one star…

  • Colin Madden

This place is horrible. What a joke. These types of theaters still existing is exactly why movie theaters are going out of business. $35 plus parking to sit in a bacteria filled cloth seat. Do not recommend. Go somewhere else!

  • Ikenna Ejiagwa

I don’t normally leave reviews, but this theater was that average. Seats need an upgrade, felt very stiff & compared. Screen & sound was average. Parking is downtown style so good luck (all of this to no fault of the staff).

  • Giorgionator

The air conditioning in screen 8 is/was not functioning while we watched Oppenheimer. Was humid inside. And yes, the parking system was inconvenient. $17 for underground parking which I hope they’ll refund next time.

  • Annette Deleon

Went in evening.. o free parking..either park in street/curb or pay 4 valet $20. Nice theater but restrooms need to be cleaned. Toilet was all yellow inside bowl n floors in restrooms looked dirty

  • Jacob Billington

Probably would not go back to this location. Dirty everything broken most things.. and outdated seating. Bathrooms fail... seating fail... soda fountain fail.... watch your movie somewhere else!

  • Thomas

The worst theater I've been to. Parking is awful. Everything is a bit old and ratty. No reclining seats while costing as much as other theatres with them. Theater was also smelly and dirty.

  • Bela Tonetto

I understand being in the movie theater business is tricky these days, but keeping facilities (auditoriums and restrooms) clean is a basic requirement in any industry :)

  • Joe Pat Clayton

Theaters smell like old shoes. Bathrooms are unclean like a truck stop in Mississippi dirty. Seats are greasy with holes in the seats. Nasty like a dead possum bad!

  • Karla West

I'm used to better seats and friendlier staff at AMC. My pizza was burned, and there were no signs labeling the auditoriums where the movies were being shown.

  • J T

Chairs are not comfortable, they are small and old. Wish the chairs are recliner as most of AMC across the country. Had to park in public parking garage.

  • G. Culpepper

Great staff. They are always nice and professional!! Theatre are always clean: Except for the bathroom. They need a little more upkeep and updated.

  • Reese Campbell

Ever leave a credit card at a bar, and have to go get it the next day only to realize how gross the place is? This theater is worse than that bar.

  • Guitar Dan

Cool walk downtown love the architecture. Movie theater itself was pretty good. Convenient bathrooms and easy check in with app as usual at AMC.

  • C Akonful

Convenient location to catch a movie if you were staying downtown and it’s raining as it was during my trip and very convenient for a matinee

  • Hunter Creel

The theatre was not kept up. Holes in seats, warm in the theater, and the screen went up a quarter of the way, and never went back down.

  • Victoria Robinson

It's a pretty good movie theater. I never had a problem here. I only wish it was a bit nicer in the inside.

  • Nica Marin

Theater is fine but parking was HORRIBLE and EXPENSIVE.
