I hadn't been to a lux cinema for a while , we seem guardians of the Galaxy 3. Got their 30 min early sat in the lounge ordered food we got the $74 deal we got mixed sliders and I got chicken fried that was a huge serving I'm glad I went 3 smaller mixed sliders, my wife went the duck pancake and the sliders , you can pick when your food comes out , we also got a free soft drink and small popcorn food is not bad but it's not 5 star good portions make up for not 5 star food quality , the chairs are not super comfy as all the cinemas have been upgraded to recliners. So I gotta think about all your paying for is food in eating food and people bringing you stuff if u want it . And also it has a small amount of seating to make it more private. I couldn't justify paying to go to their Rewards Member LUX ticket for $42.30 then food as that's over $150 to go to the movies compared to a local small cinema that's $10 and you get food before.

I attended a LUX showing of Saltburn this evening and I was shocked by the noise. The screen (LUX 02) appears to be too close to one of the bars down stairs. All throughout the movie we heard loud music. Non-stop. It can only be described as non-stop rave music. It was ridiculous and completely ruined our experience of the movie. Considering the tickets were close to $100, I am disgusted. The showing was at 9:30pm, and we were told we had to order all drinks/food by 9:45pm when the tills closed. Due to this, we ended up spending a further $80 before the movie even started. If it wasn’t for this non refundable expense, I would’ve left about half an hour through the movie. In total I spent close to $200 to sit through a movie that sounded like it had a rave going on next door. Advertised as a ‘luxury’ experience, it ended up being one of the worst and most expensive cinema experiences in my life. Highly disappointing.

Really terrible accessiblity for anyone with mobility issues. The lift only works if you ask a staff memeber to operate it - and there are no longer any staff on the level of the shopping mall, they have all been replaced with ticketing machines. So there is NO way to use the lift if you visit alone. The lift is tiny, dark, shakes and makes an awful creaking sound - I was convicved it was going to be stuck. I wouldn't recomment this cinema to anyone who uses a wheelchair, cane, mobility device. EVen for parents with prams, its not universal access. No one should have to ask for permission to use a lift - its disguting that people with disabilites are discrimnated against at such a large cinema and mall.

Went to see Barbie at lux. My partners chair was broken. The buttons to make it go up and down were snapped off. The complementary popcorn and drinks were slow to come out. We got the wrong drinks, and the popcorn tasted bad, they had burnt it then tried to cover it up by adding extra salt. We pressed the service button on the chair to order more food but no one came. Tried to order through the app but all it had was more popcorn. I had to leave the cinema to order food but the kitchen was so slow it took more than an hour and was not done by the end of the movie. You can’t ask people to pay extra for “a luxury experience “ then deliver service quality less than a failing restaurant.

Hoyts Melbourne Central earns a solid 4-star rating for its immersive visual and audio experience, making it a popular choice for movie enthusiasts. The screens and sound systems are top-notch, ensuring you don't miss a beat of the action-packed blockbusters. However, the cinema does fall behind in terms of cleanliness and comfort. Sticky floors detract from the overall experience, and it's disappointing to find that the Xtremescreen cinemas lack recliners. In conclusion, Hoyts Melbourne Central offers a fantastic cinematic experience when it comes to visuals and audio, but it would benefit from improvements in cleanliness and seating comfort.

I miss the old days where EVERYONE went to the theatre and I love going to the cinemas at Melbourne central in Melbourne. Gorgeous screens, comfortable seating and they always have such lively staff! I saw Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny recently with my 8 year old, and it was just a great film and the theatre made me realise... this is what we have to do! This is what the Hollywood experience is all about! Big screens! Great sound! A fantastic and pleasant experience for people of all ages. Visit these guys in Melbourne Central, kick back and enjoy a movie! You’ll love it!

This cinema has become a go to point for most of the movies I watch outside my bed on internet. Relatively cleaner than Village cinema in Crown. Seats are a bit comfier than a few other ones I've been to. Staff are friendlier and accommodating in general. On a busy session this can change though. Finding parking for a weekend session can be a bit challenging due to its location. Depending on the movie you are going to watch, sometimes the lines for popcorn, drinks and icecream can be longer than expected. Giving 4 stars because of general cleanliness.

Hoyts Lux: A pretty overpriced cinema experience, but it's worth it every once and a while. The staff at this location, where great and the Lux waiting area was a great place before the movie. The food was also very good, but 1 of the dishes (pulled pork) was dry and tough, which was slightly disappointing but the other dishes where as expected and good. Overall the Lux experience at this hoyts location is well done, the actual movie experience is not as good as a Titan or IMax theater but the recliners and food are what you watch a movie in Lux for.

No one answers the phone and have been trying to contact them over the last week as I’ve had issues with buying tickets online using the golden tickets via Melbourne central. Extremely frustrating as I’ve tried booking tickets I’m advance to secure seats as I am spending a weekend away in the Melbourne CBD & now I’ve missed out on the time I want due to tickets selling out. Am now having to drive over an hour & in addition pay for parking to try organise this in person HOPING someone could help me.

  • Jo SB

Great place to catch the latest movies. I love booking the HOYTS LUX tickets, as it gives me a unique overall experience away from the crowd and queues. The cinema comes with its own lounge and a gourmet menu for food & drinks. You can order at the bar before heading to the cinema, and they will deliver it to your seats. The recliner seats have easy-to-use controls and an attached wooden table to enjoy snacks and beverages. They provide complimentary popcorn & water. Definitely worth the price.

  • Jim

Easily some of the best cinemas I’ve ever been into, lovely layout in them and so so so clean. The service staff made it known that they were doing me a HUGE favor by serving me which was kind of them. Not a complaint but the lack of movie posters in the cinema concourse was a little odd and something I missed. I have worked in the cinema industry and am a frequent visitor to cinemas all around Australia and while this is one of the nicest multiplexes I’ve been to the staff really let it down.

  • S S

Simple, no-frills place with mostly affordable tickets with good offers if you're a member. There are 11 screens, of which 2 are Xtremescreen. The Xtremescreen is bigger with better sound quality than the regular ones for sure. The picture quality and audio is very good. Be prepared to watch a bunch of advertisements before the movie. Don't miss the Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour movie. It's an amazing experience on the Xtremescreen! A good movie theatre in the CBD!

  • James Gassis

Very confusing to locate the actual Cinema itself, and sadly the place is filthy. Dimly lit halls, mess all over, the cinema room (6) smelt awful when we walked in first, noticed it wasnt ready, walked back out. Chairs are fabric not leather. An employee exited dragging big bags behing them leaking stuff over the floor as they went :D Watching it soak into the carpet made me realise why it likley smelt so bad :'D The area is good though, lots of places around for food.

  • Hayley Young

We went to the Lux cinema, when we first walked in the bad smell was super overwhelming, it smelt dirty and dusty. I then sat down and thought surely I’ve just sat in a bad seat as it wasn’t comfortable, but after testing a few others out I realised they we just old and uncomfortable. The seats at my local Hoyts, normal cinema are more comfortable. I left the movie with a sore back and butt. It definitely needs to be updated to be worth the cost of a ticket.

  • Chris Hudson

Came into the city to be advised Hoyts do not take companion cards in their so-called Lux pictures. Every other cinema company does. clearly Hoyts are not an Australian company up to the standard of disability where they rather discriminate on people with a disability not allowing them to experience all their facilities would not recommend anybody going to Hoyts. Clearly their CEO is out of touch and not an Australian citizen

  • XlordzackX 21

Probably one of the worst hoyts cinemas that I've been to and is very outdated compared to other hoyts like the docklands ones which have recliner seats and have lots of room for legs. The staff here were rude and miserable, we got to our seats and they were filthy and had dirty patches all over. The people infront of us were blocking the whole bottom of the screen and lastly the bathrooms were disgusting.

  • george vlahos

Watched a film at hoyts lux enjoyed the film the lux theatre which was once a cool and luxury way to watch a movie is not evident at this place any longer unfortunately. Lift your game guy's place isn't staffed adequately which means the service sucks ,the place is filthy I could go on but that should be enough. You take peoples hard earned provide the advertised product, definitely wouldn't recommend.

  • Ed Wong

First and last time doing Hoyts Lux. Seats were still filthy from previous session, some controls not working properly and food taking forever to arrive. $29.90 for a “signature” sundae that took 30 minutes to appear and it was an indiscernible pile of half-melted ice cream. And they ran out of their giant sundae glasses so ours was in a bowl. Lux? More like a trip to the outer ‘burbs.

  • Yi June Yap (Lev)

Movie experience: Xtreme room at I-row seat. The extra price to get an Xtreme room is worth it for certain movies. The hall is more spacious, the visuals are clearer and bigger, and the sound is also higher quality. At I-row, I could comfortably see the entire screen without needing to strain my neck. Although I would highly suggest going back a couple rows for anyone who is tall.

  • Carolina Esmayili

The buffet for popcorn and drinks next to entree area, Absolutely horrible popcorns they selling full of salt and you don’t even taste popcorn anymore, each time I complain very nicely, never change, each time the get worth. The he problem is you not allowed to bring your own popcorn inside. Fully disappoint, waste and f money to buy popcorn from there and bad for your health.

  • Mighty Brown Mouse

I am surprised that unlike hoyts the seats have not been upgraded in all the cinemas. Tired to purchase a 4pm ticket on Thursday from the console, half an hour before show but it would only show ticket for 9pm. Yet when I tried through my app, I was successful. Gave feedback to the attendent upstairs, she seemed very disinterested so don't know if info was passed on or not.

  • Shin Yee Lim

Went to watch the Barbie Movie with some mates and the brunette woman serving us was so rude and sassy. We order popcorn and drinks and they were practically thrown at us. I feel bad for her colleague (younger gentleman) who she bullied into grabbing drinks and popcorn for the orders she was taking. She did not smile or talk to us kindly. Would never want to see her again.

  • Justin Dingle-Garciyya

Really enjoyed the luxury theatre and was a great movie until I had to leave. Ordered some fried food and towards the end of the movie had to run to the bathroom and vomited everything I had eaten. Not great for the price and also the overall experience. Definitely the food as i felt better after it was out of my system. Plus missed the end of the movie. Not a great date

  • Maryanne M

A really disappointing experience unfortunately! I went to see Mission Impossible at 7:30pm on a Monday and firstly, was unable to order a glass of wine as I was informed that none of the staff working had their RSA’s. Then, when the movie finished there were no lights left on in any of the bathrooms so everyone was forced to use their phone lights. Could not recommend!

COMFORTABLE SEATS, CLEAN AND MODERN Hoyts Melbourne Central is a multi-theatre complex. Modern and with good sound systems. Hoyts lux also available here. There is a food court next to the complex within Melbourne Central and , of course, you can buy the overpriced popcorn and drinks in the cinema itself. Plenty of toilets. Access via an escalator from level 2.

  • Lucinda Koch

All seemed okay and quite efficient until we got into the Vmax cinema, and I had carefully looked into it online and it seemed they had comfortable reclining seats only to find out they were just your regular cinema seats, which was very disappointing for a three hour movie. I think I need to make it very clear exactly what seating they have in which cinema.

  • Tan T

One of the most disgusting theatre I have been in Melbourne. I would rather go to the one in docklands than here. Once you enter the theatre there’s a disgusting smell. The seats looks old and gross. Throughout the movie all I could focus was on that nasty smell. Seems like they hardly get the theatre cleaned. Not worth paying and watching movie here.

  • Thomas Liontis

Fairly decent cinema for the most part. You can buy tickets on the lower floor as well as the main area. The cinemas are quite large, with comfortable seating. The only thing that hampers the experience is people making a lot of chatter and noise randomly during the film, too many selfish people that don't think about the patrons around them.

  • Charlotte T.

Screen 7 for John Wick 4 on Firday night 12/5/23. Dirty. Popcorn everywhere on the seats and on the floor on multiple rows. They did not clean it between screening. Staff are not friendly. They look exhausted. Looks like understaffed. Not a good experience and will not come back. Popcorn was also not good. Better to stay at home and watch.

  • Varsha N

Thought that HOYTS is one of the best, but it turned out to be a huge disappointment. The movie I watched was in Cinema 7 and from the moment we entered the cinema it smelled disgusting. The seats were also dirty with stains and torn seat fabric! The tech aspect of the cinema was good, but cleanliness and hygiene were a huge let down.

  • Emy Wilde

No recliners in this hoyts, cinema floor and seats were super stained and cinema 5 smells like mould. Low key a health hazard. It’s really disappointing because we choose Hoyts for the comfy recliners usually. We won’t be coming back here. Staff were nice but unfortunately this isn’t enough to make this cinema worth returning to.

  • Siam Summer

Visiting from Brisbane. Went to see EXPEND4BLES friday 3.30 pm session. HEY EVERYONE DON'T WORRY ABOUT BUYING A TICKET BECAUSE THERE IS NO ONE THERE TO CHECK - ITS FREE :-)) The cinema did not feel clean and was very dated. The carpets were dirty and nearly every seat was ripped and cracked. Lucky the movie was good.

  • John Nimbus

A mixed experience today. The young man near self service ticket machines was super helpful and polite. Went to upstairs counter for bottled water which is $6.20! My own fault for not asking...and the young women who served me was rude and acted like I was an inconvenience. Film was great and cinema clean and warm.

  • Fiona Hill

Went to watch my first movie in many years on a Sunday afternoon. The movie was great but the bathrooms were absolutely filthy. The cinema also felt dirty. For the cost of a ticket, (expensive) and a full cinema there must be a decent profit being made by someone. Cleaners need to be a priority. I won't be back.

  • Ann C

Extremely dirty - despite the cinema having been cleaned for the next session, there is popcorn everywhere, under the seats, in the walkway. The carpet is sticky, which is really gross and unhygienic. The seats have old stains that haven't been removed. Please upgrade these cinemas and sort out the cleanliness.

  • John Da Silva

Took a while to find the cinema....keep going up the elevators....however the trip up was great the way the museum within reaches up to the glass roof is amazing, as is the clock that opens every hour and I've always been a big fan of R.M.Williams....still wearing the boots I bought in Sydney 20 + years ago

  • Richard Stokes

The seats are big, the arm rests are wide and the cinemas are good. I do have an issue with the price of the food and drinks, also the sign for the mens toilets isn't there like it is for the women toilets as I hadn't been there before we walked backwards and forwards finding it. Other than that it's good

  • Stacey McLean

The only way I can describe this is the wish version of Village Gold Class. Our food came out cold, which is disappointing. It also wasn't very flavoursome, and to spend almost $200, for the LUX experience with food, was, in my opinion, not worth it. However, the staff were lovely and accommodating.

  • Jezza Golden

Lux experience was good but not great, water brought out in plastic cups and food items brought out in their packaging, a little more effort would feel a lot more appropriate for what was paid. Seats are comfortable and recline with footrests, I wish they had gone back just a little further though.

  • Mounica Kondepati

Go watch movies in HOYTS MELBOURNE CENTRAL if you wanna know the worst movie watching experience in your life. They are charging same as other Hoyts where they don’t have recliner seats, not properly air conditioned, filthy seats, small screens. The overall movie experience was a bummer for me

  • Philip

Filthy theatres, I use to like going to this hoyts precovid but now it really went downhill. The drink dispensers had ngats flying around them and the xtreme theatres smelled and looked like they were not cleaned before movie started. Popcorn and drink cups on the floor. Never coming back!!

  • Chhun Porchher

you guys know the smell of wet and sweaty socks right? That’s what u will smell once u enter the theater, the speakers are extremely dusty and there are stains everywhere on the seats (just use yr flashlight u’ll see it). Absolutely disgusting I can’t believe they are that ignorant …

  • Don Ewart

Well run. Good seats but not the excellent recliners found in suburban cinemas. Good projection and sound. The usual grossly overpriced snacks and drinks but licensed, so alcohol available. Toilets inadequate and need more regular servicing. A goid cinema choice, easily reached by train.

  • Alayna Jackson

Buying the ticket was frustrating as we had to use self-serve machines and there was no attendant nearby as the cinema is on another level. I had a voucher which didn't work until I used a different machine but there was nobody to ask for help. But the cinema was very clean and spacious.

  • Hayden

Staff were good, setup is nice, location stellar but this cinema needs a refresh. Seats are old uncomfortable and stained. Could have sworn the speakers in screen 8 were popping in and out. For the price they charge for a ticket I’d recommend going anywhere else.

  • Adam G

This cinema complex is in a great central city location however, overall I think it could do with a makeover. The prices for food, drinks and snacks are somewhat on the expensive side however, the staff is super friendly and accommodating and it's fully licensed.

  • Gabriel Massimini

Worst cinema I’ve ever been in my life. Seats were dirty filled with popcorn and black stains. I love every other Hoyt’s cinema but this is honestly disgusting. We even moved seats cause one was literally wet from a drink spill. Appalling to be paying for this.

  • Roza Janowska

Customer service, screen and sound was ok. Very dirty toilets without soap and toilet paper (!!!) ☹️ Trash bins were full, impossible to fit anything in. Lot of water on the entry to the cinema hall To be honest the worse cinema experience so far

  • Wesley Spencer

We complained mid-film about a raucous group of teenagers yelling and flashing torches throughout the film. The staff didn’t remove them. After complaining again at the end of the film, the staff said, ‘we should have removed them, but what

  • Tugba Tanyer

Sorry, but if you are intending to visit lux alternative for a movie.. sincerely, save your cash and go to village instead... Food was cold, uncooked and horrible. The food that my partner and I purchased arrived 15 minutes before the movie

  • Heather Hamilton

Well that was a surprise. Haven’t been there before but so glad we made the trip. Love how you can buy tickets and arrange food at the self serve checkout. Saves so much time. Plus there’s a bar. How fabulous is that! Can take a drink with

  • Ian Ryan

It’s a bit hit and miss, saw a movie the other day in the xtreme cinema and the seats are reasonable and relatively clean. Today went to see another movie but was in the regular cinema 5, and it smells of stale sweat, and grotty and dated.

  • Thomas Cullen

No one cleans the cinema in between viewings. Watched 3 movies on senate occasions and each time popcorn is on the seat, in the crack, in the cup holder, on the floor. I’m sure with how much the tickets are, Hoyts can afford more staff.

  • George Forgan-Smith

Great way to see movies. Seats are super comfortable. Having food delivered is a great add on. The menu choices are expensive but the servings for most things are decent. The Malteser sundae is outrageous and definitely to be shared!!!

  • Angela Ortstadt

The dirtiest cinema I have ever been too. Fabric seats need to be replaced and they definitely need to make sure that they clean after each movie. When we entered for our movie it was still dirty from tje show before. Unacceptable.

  • K Y

Friendly staff, convenient location and easy access. The main downside though is that there are just standard seats and Lux unlike some other Hoyts branches where there are boxed and better seats at the same standard seat pricing.

  • Simon Paljevic

Good place but the staff don’t attend to complaints. The last few times I have been here there are always Asians that sit at the back of the cinema and talk loudly and staff refuse to do anything about it. I don’t go here anymore.

  • Christina

had an amazing experience last week at hoyts melbourne central with my family. especially thank you to the girl at the bar with ribbons in her hair!! she went above and beyond in checking in and making sure we had a good time

  • Tai Newman

So staff are lovely, access is adequate but the cinema itself smelled of unwashed teenagers and it looked like all the seat fabric had seen better decades. But having said that, they played the movie and the audio was fine.

  • nia

Came to watch the eras tour movie with my partner and this waiter i think roy (guy with glasses) went above and beyond for us and elevated the experience give him a pay raise!!!!!! Awesome service would come again …

  • Radigar Kohl

I just wanted to watch Barbie but they gave the worst service possible. Thanks for ruining the magical experience. Throwing around receipts and being sarcastic. This was around 11:20pm July 21st. Reconsider who you hire.

  • Molly Payton

Phenomenal service by a handsome young lad Akira, greeted me so pleasantly and was so easy to talk to. Very helpful and truly made my experience. Give this guy a raise! He should be running the whole establishment!

  • V Sure

Conveniently located in Melbourne central with large screens. The drinks are free to refill too. The Xtreme screen is probably the next big screen if you can't get tickets to watch your favourite movie in IMAX.

  • Steph Reynolds

Located in the heart of Melbourne, our cinema features large screens and offers free drink refills. If you can't secure IMAX tickets, our Xtreme screen is the next best option for enjoying your favorite movies.

  • cheng shao en

Hope can upgrade the seats in Melbourne central… the location is great and super convenient, but the chair… if u tried the recliner super comfortable level u not gonna go back. Sincerely wishhhhh! …

  • Nickolas (The Adventure Deficit)

The staff were accommodating and lovely. Helping me understand my first experience of hoyts lux. If you haven't tried it before and you love the movies I encourage you to try it out at least once!

  • David Diep

It's a pretty good cinema, good staff and overall a great movie experience. The tickets are expensive and the way to travel into the theatre when you're at Melbourne Central Station is quite far.

  • James Han

A disgrace, not even an effort to clean up. beer bottles and plastic cups from previous viewing left in theatre 3. absolutely disgusting should be much more tidier for a better cinema experience

  • Keewy C

Big cinema yet a disappointing movie experience. For the price we paid, the chair in hall 11 is not reclinable. The most unacceptable was we have to finish the movie with the musty smell in

  • Honey Tea

Went to cinema 5, one seat was wet and had too move. Many others in the cinema had the same problem and none of us were able to sit in the seats that we booked. God I hope it wasn't pee.

  • Michael Schubert

$25 per ticket, and $30 for popcorn and drinks… cinema was filthy obviously not cleaned between sessions, at least the service was sub par too. Would avoid this Hoyts if possible.

  • Tove H

Was very disappointed that they turned on captions during our five nights at Freddy’s session. It’s very distracting and completely ruined the experience for my partner and I

  • Josh Ferrell

This cinema needs renovation! The seats I was allocated were disgusting, I'm sure not all cinemas are like that, but recommend an upgrade on cinema 8 asap.

  • Elly Y

We noticed some strong smell once we entered the place and it was obviously not cleaned up from previous shows… Bad experience btw… no air con b4 ads!

  • Zauh Jariwala

Barbie was AWESOME on the super wide screen, special thanks to Trix for the great customer service and helping me take a picture at the Barbie booth

  • B E

Paid $24 for a seat dated back in the 80's. Dirty, smelly and no recliner, what a disgrace. Save your money and go somewhere else. …

  • Melanie Cheah

Been in standard cinema room 5 for fast and furious. Is my first time here and I won’t be back here anymore! The cinema is smelly and dirty!

  • Tracie Lean

One of my favourite cinemas in Melbourne. Comfortable seats and great screens and sound system to make your experience the most enjoyable.

  • Phillip Calcagno Australianhairdresser

Good place to catch a movie. Seats arecomfortable and snak bar is ok nothing special though. They also have a extrememax theatre and Lux.

  • Micah Hoppitt

Truly a stunning theatre in the middle of Melbourne, the aesthetic makes the cinema look like your in for a quality experience

  • Isuru Weeraratna

Decent cinema with comfortable seats, affordable price and worth to watch an exciting movie, good sound quality as well.

  • Sadiq Jaffar

Nice cinema, with comfy seats, nice food and friendly staff. There is though very limited number of movies shown.

  • Engela Van der Klashorst

Clean and comfortable movie theatre in the centre of Melbourne. Snacks are not over expensive. Clean bathrooms.

  • Jon Porter

Popcorn too salty. Seats don't recline Movie not great Person who served popcorn, good value Would go again

  • Kerttu Kroon

Nice atmosphere. Like a good cinema should be. Slightly overpriced food but that’s a given.

  • Nope Never

Yelling at people with a disability isn't a good look. Your male staff need training.

  • Sparkee

Lux was comfortable service was quick and the three cheeses huge!

  • Eva Franklyn

Fine. Be prepared to bring your own snacks, their such a rip off.

  • Leonardo Maximiliano

Nice customer service. Cinema seats needed to be more clean

  • Jia Xuan Lin

Not so crowed in Mid week
