"Took in a movie here a couple of weeks ago"
Allow me to preface this review by saying that the staff on the floor were incredibly helpful, apologetic and understanding. They did their best to amend the situation, and offered a full refund when the problems went unresolved. Now for our experience. My husband, baby and I went to go see a movie that was advertised and sold as a “Park the Stroller” movie on their website. Here is the verbatim description of these showings from the Landmark website: “To ensure your experience is "baby-friendly," we'll raise the house lights and lower the volume of the movie. Baby talk and other parenting requirements are encouraged PLUS stroller parking is available and latecomers are welcomed.” When we walked into the theatre, the previews were playing at regular volume and the lights were off. I kept my baby outside the theatre as it was so loud I was concerned for his hearing. When we asked the staff about it, we were told the lights would come up and sound would be lowered for the movie itself. 10 minutes later, the movie started and this did not happen. My husband went to go ask again, and the young woman working admissions said she would go ask the manager, which she did. 5 minutes later, there was a *slight* increase in the lights, but no change in the volume. We let the staff know that there was no way this was a baby friendly experience. The admissions and cashier were so apologetic and kind about it, and offered us a full refund. The only reason this review is not one star is because of their kindness and understanding, and their endeavour to have it fixed on our behalf. To explain why I am so frustrated, we adjusted our son’s nap time and planned our day around the movie time, as I wanted to try out breastfeeding in public in a safe, baby friendly environment. This whole ordeal took 1.5 hours out of our day by the time all was said and done, which if you’ve ever been a new parent you know is a massive amount of invaluable time. I’m extremely disappointed that this experience, which was touted to be baby friendly was anything but. I expected better from Landmark, which generally has an audience’s positive experience as their priority, and can only hope that this was an anomaly and not the norm for their Park the Stroller viewings.
I recently visited the Shawnessy Landmark Cinema and wanted to share my experience. While the theater itself had a decent selection of movies and comfortable seating, there were a few aspects that left a lot to be desired. One of the main issues I encountered was the long lines at the concession stand. It seemed that no matter what time I arrived, there was always a significant wait to purchase beverages and snacks. This resulted in delays and frustration, especially when trying to catch a movie within a specific timeframe. Additionally, I noticed that two of the ticket machines were out of order. This further exacerbated the waiting time, as the remaining machines were overwhelmed with customers trying to purchase tickets. It would be greatly appreciated if the theater management could address this issue promptly to ensure a smoother ticketing process for all patrons. Another disappointment was the fact that the ice cream maker at the concession stand has been out of order for the past four months. As a fan of ice cream treats during movies, this was quite disheartening. It would be beneficial for the theater to prioritize the repair or replacement of the ice cream maker to enhance the overall movie-going experience. Despite these issues, I will say that the theater seating was comfortable and the movie selection was decent. However, the inconveniences and limitations in the concessions area did detract from the overall enjoyment of the experience
Great theater with incredibly spacious seating arrangements inclusive of recliners, power recliners, heated seats, private couples pods in premier seating, to the VIP type experience inclusive of having shoutouts on the screen. Located in a commercial center just off Macleod trail southbound in the Shawnessy area, there is a huge amount of parking so no worries about missing a spot for parking. One thing I love is the pre bagged popcorn. This saves on time which is important when you're trying to get to your seat. On that note, I would like it if they could do layered butter. Besides that, their setup is rather efficient with snacks reasonably priced given the ranges you'd typically see at theaters for snacks. In this case, you don't need a jacket full of snacks! The 3D experiences in the theater are crisp and clear, with the laser experience being something that I think everyone should experience due to the crisp sharpness of imagery despite these gigantic theater screens. Even if you don't find yourself in the premier row of seats, you can still enjoy a fantastic film at landmark cinemas in the regular recliners with your loved one, feet up and popcorn at the ready. Oh and by the way, the sound is amazing and powerful with true surround sound. It really feels like the action or talk is happening behind you! Enjoy your movies!
The manager (not sure which one) is very friendly and helpful, as he gave me directions to this theater on the phone a few days ago in a voicemail! I love the seats! The service was fantastic! The movie quality was superb! Lots of options for snacks! Cute vending machines for toys! Cool pop machine! Only a few things I didn't like...it wasn't totally clear that you could pay in person for seats as soon as I walked in. The lights in the (lady's) washroom (on the bottom floor) is very dim and hard to see with, plus at the end at the last stall, there's lights very aggressively flickering, which is quite hard on anyone's eyes. The sinks in the washroom are all producing freezing water except for one, which is very hot so you must put your hands under quickly as to not get scorched nor frozen hands. Most of the butter machines weren't working: two of them needed to be fixed when I was there, plus the two others had the "out of order" sign in front of them. Overall this review is just highly suggestion these two simple requests: More signage on where to buy tickets, and maintenance on the bottom floor. Keep up the great work!
Took in a movie here a couple of weeks ago. Bought tickets online and selected the premiere seats. These seats are about $5 more than regular seat but I got the ones right in the middle of the theatre. The two seats are wider and secluded from others with two panels on each side. They recline, have adjustable headrests and are heated. They also have a table to put your stuff on or in. These seats really made the experience more personal and very comfortable. For the extra cost I think they are worth it. The theatre wasn’t full and the sound was good, not too loud, the screen was clear. Popcorn was fresh and delicious but of course way too expensive. ($8 for a medium bag). The movie wasn’t playing in the AVS cinema after its initial release so didn’t get the full effect. I like seeing movies here.
Went to go see a movie. It was very busy the 3 machines to buy tickets are all broken. The self serve popcorn is just gross. Watched people grab bags and remove them from the warmer so the could grab the fresher popcorn from the back then put the front bag back. Also saw people grabbing handfuls of popcorn from bags then not buying that bag. I will watch movies here but I will never buy the popcorn!! Stood in line for about 20 min it wasn’t moving so we left Went to seton instead got fresh popcorn. No big lines way better experience. I hope landmark goes back to the old way and gets rid of all the self serve. I prefer their seats to Seton but landmark fails when it come to Service They seem to be more worried about saving money than happy customers.
The premiere seats are awesome and I like the concession layout. However, it's very disappointing that this theater doesn't care about line management. Every time I come here I get budged in line because staff doesn't have any system or procedure in place to deter it, either with physical barriers like stanchions or basic guest service by cashier's to direct budgers to the back of the line. I tried to bring it up to who I assume was a manager today and he simply said he can't do anything about it. Guest experience includes line management and they fall flat in this manner. I shouldn't see three to four people pass a whole line of people to get faster service on every visit, it's very frustrating.
Update: Just watched Eras tour with Taylor Swift. The recliner seat was great but the AC was way too cold. Glad I had my coat and scarf. Washrooms could be cleaner because they did smell and some urinals and stalls weren't working. Going to downgrade to three stars because of washrooms and temperature. Just watched Titanic 3D in the Premiere seats. Had not experienced it before and I really enjoyed the whole experience. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars is because of how the popcorn was dispensed. It was all preportioned and it just didn't taste as fresh as I have had from Cineplex. Otherwise, the theatre and seats were amazing.
Landmark Shawnessy is my go to theatre for a ton of reasons. The fresh popped popcorn ready to go when I get in line, the expansive snack lobby full of things you just can't get in other theatres like Pringles, Kettle brand chips or 5 cent candies, and the flavoured pop machines are just a start. The seating is super comfortable with the reclining feature and the space you get is just such a great touch. Finally, the friendly staff and the VIP deals complete the overall experience The cleanliness of the seating area in the lobby is one thing I would ask to be improved, but that's an easy fix. Definitely try out this theatre
Best Landmark experience in the city. All seats are reclining and never had an issue with any of the seats not working, like I've experienced elsewhere. The snack bar has an awesome lay out where everything is easily accessible for the customers and you don't have to wait for staff to make or grab it for you unless it's the pretzels, chicken fingers or pizza, which are fresh to order and worth the wait. You can almost always get tickets, even if it's a new release as this theatre isn't as busy as others. Definitely worth the drive if you are not located in the deep south.
TERRIBLE experience!!! Why are you having movies playing without staff to serve ? I understand closing times - But it's a little ridiculous that I can't get a BOTTLE OF WATER during my movie ( or a refill for my previously bought drink )- or even just tap water - After 10 minutes of walking around and missing my movie - I finally found someone and they refused to help me - as someone who works in customer service I know this is simply unacceptable. I ended up not even finishing the movie and just leaving after that - I can't say I'll be back. 1/10 experience
I went to pick up $100 worth of gift cards. I purposely went after the late afternoon shows had started so I wouldn't be navigating the crowds. I arrived, there were no customers in the snack area. I went directly to the food cashier area. I picked my cards, then waited and stared at two female teenaged workers chit chatting and opening/breaking down restocking product boxes at the register right next to where I was standing. Neither one of them acknowledged me, they saw me but ignored me. After a couple of minutes, I had to ask them if they could help me.
I just bought some tickets to watch fast and furious x with a landmark cinemas gift card, the transaction was successful and as a result there was a balance of 6 dollars. Then it appears on my cell phone screen that the transaction could not be made, please try again. I did it again and it tells me that there is not enough balance on the card. Now I don't have tickets, I don't have a balance, I don't have confirmation of any transaction, I don't have any email about what happened. In a few words, they stole the money.
Beautiful theatres. Very clean and staff were friendly. The reclining seats are SO COOL and every so comfy. Look forward to going here again. We went on a Sunday morning and there were only about 10 people in the theater so we weren't cramped like in the old days. Lost a star for the concession, which is very nice but I don't understand why it still takes just as long to get through the till when the popcorn is self serve and the cashiers don't have to get it for you... maybe it's one of life's great mysteries.
Good theatre overall, a lot of nice recliner seating and fairly clean. Staff all seemed a little disenchanted, it’s a tall order but I’d love to see a little more enthusiasm. The feeling was palpably depressing last I was in. Popcorn and candy and everything are out so you pick up what you want and take it to the till. You can also purchase your tickets with those same cashiers. Found this a little unintuitive. Perhaps it could be explained through signage better? Movie ran on time and no issues in showing
This theatre was pretty great the seats were extremely comfortable with the ability to recline and with the premium seats you could have the seats heated which was awesome. The drink machines were pretty cool with a wide selection but kind of busy as there are only 4 of them, and the popcorn was delicious and fresh (I would not recommend paying for the cashier to butter the popcorn as you can do it yourself). Overall the experience was amazing and will return here next time I want to watch a movie.
Interesting location! The concession area is large and contains products that I don’t see it elsewhere or not in a theatre setting. How they sell the popcorn is also new. They have a several heated displays similar to a big 711 fridge (but heated though). The preparation of the popcorn happens beside those displays and shielded by glass. You can see how the popcorn prepared but you can’t have direct contact with the servers. There are several coke machines with 10s of flavours and their mixes.
I have t been to a theatre since 2018. Although expensive and not sure that value translates to the cost to see a movie but whatever. I ordered tickets online and the process was easy including choosing seats. Seating was super comfortable with lecture reclining chairs with cup holders. Although expensive the experience was positive. The movie was great but I am sure it will be on demand in a very short time at a fraction of the cost to see it in a theatre so this won’t be a regular thing.
The popcorn is cold and definitely not fresh. They have it all prepopped sitting in those cupboards. That is one of the main reasons I go to a theatre, fresh, HOT popcorn. I paid extra for butter, but they hardly put any on so I came back down and asked if they could add more and they wanted to charge me again. Ugh. The place was not super clean, table and chairs in the sitting area had sticky stuff and popcorn everywhere and the bathrooms upstairs not the cleanest.
I was disappointed to see the arcade games are gone. I asked an attendant about getting butter on my popcorn, and he could add some for a charge, even though it's free to add at another counter after you have paid for your food. Me and another person got tickets with assigned seats, but when we found the seats young people were already sitting there, so we just found better seats. If I could I would jump intò my Delorian and go back to the way things were.
I really want to love this place but I'm getting sick and tired of the temp being way off, or then not turning all the lights off, or the doors being left open and you can hear people in the hallway. With just 10% better effort this place would be ideal for any movie lover. The sound, barxo projectors, the seats, the way you get your snack like a conve ience store. Everything is great but the staff just don't care.
Was looking forward to end my night with a movie but when we got there the movie was so blurry, it literally hurts my eyes and then they told me they’re gonna fix it on Monday. A notice before the movie started would have been nice, at least I would have known not to waste my time seating through 30 min of doubting whether my eyes was getting bad or not. I did get a refund but my time, I can’t get that back.
I liked how they made the change to adapt to the new ways. Very clean front and love the fountain pop machines! It’s nice to mix different flavours. Went to see a movie on cineplex, wow! What a difference in movie experience. Cineplex cater to volume of movie goers and Landmark for comfort. Landmark has the best seats! Shawnessy Location has the best customer experience. Rare that we get untidy theater.
On one of the hottest day of the year we thought we would spend 3 hours of Oppenheimer and relax, but Lo and behold the AC wasn’t running on Screen 8 and had to sweat the whole movie. They had reclining chair and our grand premiere had shelving space which was good but the torture with not enough AC left us not to enjoy the movie fully. Also the washrooms can use some cleaning
Very nice movie theater. Ask the seats are leather, with the ability to recline with the click of a button! The section between seats can also be "pulled up", to allow for a closer experience with your friend, date, or partner. The theater has a good concession stand as well. All in all, this is a very good theater. I would recommend the movie theater if you live in the area!
The Landmark Cinema 10 Shawnessy is the perfect venue to see your favourite movies. On our recent visit, we chose the Premiere seats which are so comfortable that one might wish to have a similar setup at home. We saw the latest edition of the Equalizer franchise which we thoroughly enjoyed while sipping our glass of wine with our feet up. We will be sure to go again soon.
I have not been to this theater I'm a few years. The renovation they did since then have mad this an inviting and modern service. Clean organized concession or better yet cafeteria area, large selection from the standard pizza to popcorn and everything eles you can image. The theaters are all decinwrs with built in sound. I will definitely be back.
Chairs are super comfy.. Good movie experience. We enjoyed the movie. Everything is expensive here though a large pop is $6 but you can drink all you can, and medium popcorn is $8 . Also, not enough bathrooms. There was a long wait to get tickets and also to use the bathrooms. But the super comfy made up for it. I like it and will come again.
Beautiful place and great comfy seats that recline and have arm space for everyone. They had a large concession area with more selection than your usual movie theatre. Clean and new, friendly staff. You can also buy liquor/beers for the movie. Overall great experience and will definitely be back, highly recommend checking this theatre out
A great theatre experience. We bought the tickets online in advance and were all set and ready to go when we got to the theatre, no worries about sitting together or where as we had bought numbered seats. the concession area could have had more staff working (half the counters weren't open) the wait times were a while to get food
They changed the how you purchase your popcorn and snacks it’s really unfortunate as it’s not clear they don’t have prices or combos. No butter? Or if there was I’m not sure where it was. The seats we got didn’t recline which was frustrating. Maybe if they had more than one person in till we could have requested help.
online booking fee? Are you guys crazy? Why in the HELL would you charge the customer for something that makes your jobs easier, saves you costs and prevents lineups. Whichever corporate moron made this decision obviously has no idea what they're doing. Nothing but a straight up money grab!
This Theatre is good and the staff is nice. We have noticed that the first show of the day can be kind of cold. Like the building has not warmed up yet. Ticket kiosks seem to have alot of issues. Also can be very busy since it's right next to the LRT and walking distance to 5 communities
Great staff, newly renovated with reclining seats, laser auditorium that had an amazing picture quality, and their concession is next level, one of a kind in Calgary! The new food area has so many options to choose from including merchandise, as well the traditional theatre style food.
Love the location of this theater and the premium seats are awesome. There is only one bathroom upstairs with 2 stalls and one was out of order and no toilet paper. Frankly the bathroom was quite messy as well as the seating area upstairs. Just wish it was a cleaner place overall...
Too loud, too hot near the top row and freezing in the central area. Seats look comfortable but not. Recliners are built too high to rest feet comfortably on floor and recliners have no back support. My back still aches from the recliners 5 days later. I won't go there again.
It wasn't crowded. The theater room we were in wasn't cluttered. The sears need wiping down. I know they don't get much time. But for people's health they need to do it. Food is so expensive. It's a shame that movies are so expensive to watch. I rather just watch at home.
The most comfortable seats - like in business class on a plane. Motorized reclining, soft leather, spacious. Given that, prices are high. We paid $15 a ticket. The concession area is fresh, modern, and clean, which we appreciated. A large selection of snacks to purchase.
The seating is reclining armchairs where you can reline and raise your feet to your own comfort. It is so comfortable that I had someone sitting in my row fall asleep and start snoring!!! To be fair it was Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring - 4hr edition.
Never busy, very easy to get good seats at any showtime. Seats are comfy, way better than Cineplex Popcorn is terrible because of how dead the theatre is. Sits out in warming trays for who knows how long. Staff couldn't be bothered to just pop fresh popcorn
We just saw Top Gun! It was amazing!!! Loved it! Loved our seats! We had the big leather recliners! We were about 7 rows up & in the middle! It was perfect! Such an advantage to be a retired senior & enjoy the movie on a week day afternoon!
While they have great new recliner seats, the service at the atom link was dismal at best. As soon as we got to the front of the line, the person working at the counter went to serve the general line, even though there was some other staff
$1.29 for butter. Bags of popcorn prepared and left alone for an unknown amount of time for anyone and everyone to touch them. Zero personal service except to pay for your goods and to check your ticket. The only positive thing I have to
ordered some popcorn via skip tonight and i just wanted to thank sol for making our movie night a thousand times better for giving us 2 popcorn seasoning instead because the one we wanted isn’t available. we really appreciate it. :)
For an older movie theater this place is well kept and maintained. It obviously has the same movies as any other theater, and the facilities are pretty nice. Seats are comfortable and spacious, and theaters seem to have a great
The ladies washroom upstairs was equal with a gas station bathroom. Only one worked and it didn’t lock. A layer of hair and filth lined the walls and large amounts of crust around the taps. Surprising for a theatre that nice.
I really like this theater. To the point that I resent having to go anywhere else. Rooms seats, good screens and sound systems - upgrade good to great, in theater 10 - and the process of getting popcorn and drinks is quick.
No stars new set up is terrible and very dirty. People coming in from outside the theatre and touching bags of popcorn that may be yours if you show up after them. Self serve popcorn is a very bad idea. Will never return.
Albeit I haven't gone to Landmark since 2019, they have never did me wrong in the past... but based on other people's reviews, the SARS-nCoV-2 renovations are bad and anti-consumer. Go back to the way it was before 2020.
Theatre 6 is so incredibly hot at the top. The popcorn is stale. The seats are alright, but cineplex is just a better experience. Also you always have to buy tickets at concession so you HAVE to interact with people.
Well… I broke my 5year theatre fast and: What a great experience! The seats are so comfortable now and I love all the extra leg room. Definitely a HUGE improvement. We will be back!! (And sooner then 5 years!)
amazing theatre. we got the Premier seats to watch the super Mario movie, really comfortable heated seats! And a huge recliner the popcorn was good, and the prices are reasonable for the tickets and the food.
Seating is amazing. I like the convenience store style concession and the all-in-one purchase point. Doesn't feel overwhelming like some of the Cineplex locations. They also offer a promo on Sundays for kids.
Favorite place to go watch a movie! Become a member and lrg. Popcorn and drink refills are free! Hotdogs are fantastic as long as you tell them not to give you a bun that has been sitting in warmer too long!
Nice place to go for a movie. Seats were comfortable. I like how there is a washroom upstairs. Love the concept of the inside, it's a nice setup. You can get tickets and snacks at the same time.
I really enjoy this theatre! Lots of show times, and they accept the tickets on your phone. The recliner seats are super comfy and spacious. Popcorn is popcorn. What more can you ask for?!
This is our go-to movie spot, I love the convenience of pre-buying tickets, grabbing your own popcorn, and pouring your own drink. The theatres are large and clean with reclining seats.
Friendly staff, snacks are well stocked, theatre is clean, reclining seats are so comfortable!! My only complaint: not thrilled about picking up pre-made popcorn bags from the shelves.
Very bright, airy feeling main floor of the cinema. The recliner chairs are very comfortable, ample room, and even space between you and your "neighbours". Very nice place!
Nice chairs, friendly staff, quick service, great & comfortable seats. The heat in the theatre was a bit high and the hot dog bun a bit dry but otherwise good experience
When ordering hot dogs, etc, they must prepare it in another room, kind of sketchy. The atmosphere is nice. Lines are quite slow, friendly staff. A mix of good and bad.
I like this cinema. The staff is friendly. The restrooms are clean. Even the cheapest chairs are simply fantastic!!! Of course, the prices for food are very unpleasant.
Love this place! We go once or twice per month. It's clean and welcoming. Sometimes, the lineup for popcorn is long, but we typically get through within a few minutes.
I do not like this theatre. Everything is automated. No longer can you get popcorn from the crew. You now get it through doors. Argh and you can't get it layered.
Pop was warm. Theatre was too hot. Sound was too low. Don't like the fact that you can't get layered butter on your popcorn. No cream for my friend's coffee.
This is my favorite theater in Calgary. I can always rely on the quality of both the food and the theaters rooms. Soda machine options are also wonderful.
Had a wonderful night at Taylor Swifts Eras tour the seats at Landmark are extremely comfortable leather recliners and staff very friendly and helpful .
There is someone named Joe who is so fantastic, he’s literally the nicest and was so incredibly kind. He deserves 100/100 stars! Give that guy a raise
We just watched the new transformers movie tonight. There was no A/C at all. It was hotter inside theater #3 than the 30°c temperature outside.
This cinema has a good infrastructure to make you relax during your movie time. Parking is free. There is wheelchair access. Reclining chairs.
My spouse and I got the premium seating with the heated chairs. I loved it. I'm usually cold. So I'll be definitely getting that seat again.
Saw Taylor Swift movie, haven't been to a movie in quite a while and it is all self serve for food and drink. Friendly staff and very clean.
No other cinema in Calgary has better seats than at Landmark, Shawnessy. Pizzas they serve could more appealing if made well.
Nice place. Massive. I feel like rows are more cramped and you can't go as far back on the reclining chair. Overall loved it
Great movie experience like always. The chairs are so comfy and unlike other theaters my lower body doesn't get overly hot.
Best movie theatre in Calgary, quick lines and the recliner seats are awesome, and it also has cheaper prices than cineplex
Reclining seats where you can put your feet up - niiiiiice! (not all movies will have the deluxe seats - ya gotta check)
Free refills for drinks, reclining seats, and arm rests that you can lift up if needed. It's definitely worth going to!
Clean, comfortable and nice staff I feel like their chairs incline more than the cineplex ones lol, which is good
Really large theater with premium seating options well worth the cost. Great place to see a movie …
Excellent rooms, comfortable seats! The service is very good, and the rooms are easy to find.
Seats were wonderful!! I didn't like that people were taking the popcorn and putting it back.
What a clean and great cinema from the moment we walked in the whole experience was 5 starts.
Super clean and comfortable chair. The sound is so clear.. lovr going there next movie
Hate that popcorn is pre portioned. Tastes stale. Nachos were definitely stale.
Best experience so far. Seats are relaxing with heat options in full reclining
heating and AC were broken, couldn’t focus on the movie at all, way too hot
Really liked it. The reclining seats were cool. Drinks had more options.
Great theater with great chairs. Nice and quiet with easy access.
Nice theatre and good recliner seats better then Cineplex
