"Had a terrible experience with Metro Bank- the one on High Street Birmingham"
"Seeing this picture of the Birmingham City store that opened on 9/8/2019, I feel kind of sad and it is kind of heartbreaking that I not went to the store opening day back in 2019 and I have contacted Metro Bank to do some thing for the 9/8/2022, but they not done a store birthday celebration, but only some thing minor that made 2022 one of my worst years, but in 2023 it might happen on 9/8/2023 because of the information that I sent to Metro Bank, having the store birthday party that features the Metro Man and the helium balloons"
"Tazmin has been so helpful and done great job clearing my doubts and addressed all my questions tirelessly with a smile! Love the service so far! They have smooth service to open bank accounts for students(cash account that doesn’t require credit check and therefore has with limitations on sending money abroad and direct debit availability) They only ask for a letter from the uni confirming the course and address and ID card which could be either passport or BRP Make sure to come early in the morning to get quick appointment as they don’t book appointments in advance"
"This bank are theves i cancelled a standing order as the account the monny was going to had been closed A week later the money still comes out my account not Evan in pending its been took out my account so I ring the other account holder to see if it had been sent to there new account no so I ring metro thay say monny should be back within 2 days so I waited and nothing the other account holder had nothing so I waited 11 days just to make shour and I ring the bank again and thay say thay need to investigate as thay don't know we're the monnys gone and thay can't give me a time frame so in other words thay have take it and don't want to put it back don't use these no mater what stay away"
Looks all modern and fancy, but they are very much form over function. Opened an account online, went to the branch and was given my debit card on the spot, which seemed promising. I was also able to get internet banking set up there and then. However, when I then tried to pay funds into the account, they left the sending accounts with other providers, but didn't hit the receiving Metro account. After many calls to customer service, it came to light there was a fraud flag on my account. I'd literally made a few payments for 1p each to ensure the account was set up properly to receive funds. Good job I didn't send all my money over in one go, as I'd have been hungry and my bills not paid! Went into the branch again to just close the account, which couldn't be done till the fraud flag removed. I was in the branch for well over an hour and had provided all the ID they required and then seemed to be sat there for ages with the employee with nothing happening. In the end, he had emailed fraud team and I left without the account being closed. To be fair, he did call me once the account had been closed, but I missed the call and when I tried to call the number back it was for the call centre not the branch. The call centre staff are unhelpful and quite surly as well. The branch page on the website gives the managers direct email, as if to say they actually care about what you have to say. Yet when I emailed her to ask how to make a complaint, no response. The employees don't seem to know the policies and procedures of the company and don't even understand the current account switch service. All in all, another bank trying to be all modern and upcoming, but falling far short of the basic principals needed to deliver a credible current account offering. You'll get your debit card quickly, but everything else will be a long and arduous process. Banking industry in England is ruined, with a selection of terrible companies, whom for a profession so heavily regulated, seem to get away with behaving how ever they please without consequence. That being said, so far I've been much more impressed with Ulster Bank and wander if maybe they are very much 'the best of a bad bunch'.
Had a terrible experience with Metro Bank- the one on High Street Birmingham. With the promise of 'we are open 7 days', one would get the impression that Metro Bank puts customers first. However, this is hardly the feeling one would get if you interact with the staff at this branch. I had visited the branch with the intention of opening a bank account six times. Each time I was turned down and asked to come at a different time with excuses like staff shortage, technical issues, we don't open accounts after 2.00 pm and we can't give you an appointment (seriously?). And one particular staff was extremely rude (I won't name the person). Probably the bank wasn't interested cos I am a student and don't bring in the big bucks. But I would have appreciated if they had just say that rather than making me visit the branch time and again. Anyway, this is the worst experience I had from a bank in 20 years. So given a choice I am sure I am going to stay away from Metro Bank or at least this particular branch. P. S. After a month of wasting my time and effort on Metro Bank, I applied at Santander and had my account up and running in three days. So happily banking now.

Note, I went to one of their grand openings and it was store number 69 that is located at Solihull Town Centre and it was great! But with the last 2 years due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, Metro Bank needs to do store birthday parties just like the pictures that are on this review to increase the amount of people that might switch bank accounts from a banking company to Metro Bank as future investment.

If you needed to wait for your appointment, enjoy a cup of coffee in the coffeeshop second floor of waterstones. Alternatively, they recommend 10:00-13:00 as best time to come and guarantee a same day appointment

The bank's service is not as good as it is rumored. And when you register materials to become a user of the bank, the service is not as good as the initial communication between you and their customer service. After I submitted the materials, the bank informed me that I had been approved and asked me to take the bank card on time. However, when I went to the bank on time, the staff asked me to wait until 5 PM to take the bank card, and waited for several hours, saying that there was no time to serve you.
Not the best customer service that I've ever had in a METRO bank branch so far, but at least I could make a deposit effortlessly and with relatively little/short queuing only. The location is very convenient, it can be easily found and it's also accessible. Despite it was Saturday early afternoon and so many people were out for shopping, the bank was pretty quiet. I can recommend (except the slightly grumpy attitude of the ladies working at the counter/tills).
Let me know why there’s 9 tills in the main lobby but only 2 of them are being used by rude and unfriendly staff and everyone’s having to wait 45 minutes for a simple transaction. Built 9 tills for what? for them to gather first? Workers have very poor customer service and seem upset to be doing their jobs. Machines always break. Just sort it out really have some decorism thankyou
Worst experience ever , do not recommend any one this branch,i was with this bank first day they opened ,alwyes have problems , customer service needs other customer service team to teach them how to deal with clients to solve problems ,i decided to leave them as they do not deserve my time, there are much better banks around.
This is the worst Bank in the UK. I went to the bank to open an account, the service was very bad, I waited there more than two hours after that, I gave them all my details they said to me, they will call after one hour however, I have ten days nobody contact me until now …
I saw the reviews and thought, yeh okay why not. So far I'm very very pleased. Creating an online account was as simple as it could have been. Called to activate my card and again so quick and simple I was a little shocked. Not been in branch yet but when things are this easy theres no need to is there?
popped in with my wife a few days ago to enquire about an account, and melinda explained everything to us in great detail, including the services that metro bank offer. we are considering switching our bank accounts over in the near future. big thanks to melinda, she was very friendly and very helpful
Worst bank ever constantly blocking my account with no good reason takes 3days for me to receive transfers from other accounts even my own customer service is rubbish they all just wonder round the bank making people wait for ages definitely do not recommend and will be switching asap
For such a big bank in the centre of Birmingham City Centre, they only have 2 active counters and are quite slow. The bank itself is very spacious but customers services needs to a bit better. Other than that, bank was nice and clean. They give free pens to their customers.
I decided for Metro Bank because it was one of the best rated bank. The app is very nice and easy to use. But this branch in Birmingham is quite far better than almost any other bank in the city, and I visited a few... The staff is very professional, polite, helpful.
A bit funny with this bank because they don’t open a bank account to people who don’t speak English and the staff is very rude because I don’t speak English I strongly recommend go to other bank they more helpful and friendly even I don’t speak a word of English
They used to be a very good bank but now the service is very poor. Every time I go to just pay in cash I have to wait ages for people at the counter to have queries dealt with whereas before these used to be done at the side tables freeing up the counter space
Bad experience with this bank I am international student in UK I apply for my Bank account. Officer ask me we call you within 5 working days after 5 working days I visit bank with out any call they ask me we tell you Tomorrow but nothing only wast of time
Had visited the bank the last three days but not helping at all. Chris you better understand and sort things out rather than playing dirty tactics of customer service. There is no point in having decorated spacious office whilst offering poor service.
Melinda was really helpful, amazing customer service. Superb experience. She's a true representative highlighting the core values of Metro Bank. True asset to the business and to Birmingham - please give her the recognition she deserves!
Visited Metrobank recently, and I have to say the Customer Service from ms. Melinda Kielty was superb never felt so comfortable, genuinely a star, great manners, great communication skills. A great person to have represent Metro Bank.
Would not recommend this bank at all do not help one bit spent nearly an hour trying to shut account or transfer to bank across the road no help what so ever customer service 0 attitude towards customer 0
Superb customer service. Went on a Sunday and still there were enough staff members to help out with our inquiry about the safe deposit box. Melinda was polite, helpful and attentive. Thank you so much.
After visiting many metro banks in person Birmingham branch was the worst one, the only redeeming quality was the guy you meet on entry. Other than him terrible staff. Will stick to my usual branch
