I visited this historical venue for Opening Night of Los Angeles Conservancy annual event Last Remaining Seats, the film was "To Sir With Love". It is a well preserved movie palace opened in 1931 in Westwood Village, which now is area for college that surrounds it. You can not miss this art deco theatre - the tower with neon "Fox" sign features a "wedding cake" tower with chimera guards facing each direction. It dominates the skyline and you can spot i from Wilshire Boulevard. It is considered Mediterranean style which was prevailing style when it was built. It is comfortable venue with cushioned seats and balcony. Throughout the venue are photos of classic films, screen couples from such films s "Gone With The Wind" and "Casablanca". There are gilded accents over he door entrance and area next to refreshment stand. Additionally, there are some striking gold toned works of art on the lobby walls, and a sculpture outside of the men's restroom. Be sure to look at the sculpted art area near the screen as well as looking up at the star ceiling mural with lighted accents. It is quite captivating from the floor and from a balcony seat. It was an appropriate place to hold an event such as this, and I look forward to enjoying other current releases.
This...This is the BEST Theatre on the planet! I'm from NYC, and have been to most great theatres! The HUGE screen is amazing, great seats, classic old school design, amazing Dolby Atmos sound and kicking subs! The Staff-especially Duncan-are Incredibly friendly and go way outta their way to make you comfy! Nice restrooms, and for $10-you get great popcorn filled free the rest of the year! Yes, LA has The Chinese Theatre and The Cinerama Dome, & IMAX, & 4D downtown...but The Village is the BEST! Most of the red carpet premiers are shown here, and when Pink Floyd premiered The Wall film in 1981, their engineer James Guthrie showed it there with Breathtaking sound (I believe he brought a multitrack machine there...). So...disregard the whiners here-THIS...IS the Best!!!
The theater is huge and I felt very comfortable seeing a movie without a million people on top of me. The downside is the chairs are ancient and extremely uncomfortable for a long movie. I kept twisting and turning trying to get comfortable. After you do recliners at some of these newer theaters, it is so hard to sit in these old, painful chairs. They have a lot of movie premiers here, so I think they just don't care. If you don't want to be in a crowded theater and don't mind uncomfortable chairs, this is the theater for you. Park at the meters or at the Broxton parking lot on Broxton across from Barney's Beanery.
This historic theater, owned by Fox, has been in Westwood Village for over 50 years. The interior is heavily inspired by the Baroque style, and the screening spaces are huge. They also have really affordable ticket prices. For students, they can get tickets for $10, while general admission is $12. Just a warning, they have limited show times for certain movies. I've noticed that they usually show 2 movies at a time, mostly the trending titles of the month. I highly recommend this space after a night out; street parking is available for cheap in comparison to their parking structure.
Big screens, small crowds, and movie premieres! The Westwood Village Theater is a historic theater that is used multiple times per year for movie premieres, ranging from small to large productions. Great for UCLA (or other) students as they give a student discount ($8.50 per ticket, I believe), and given the lack of parking in the area, perfect for those on foot. Unfortunately, the theater is a single-screen, so if it's not showing the movie you want, you're better off going a few miles away to a traditional movie theater.
Best. Theater. Ever. Frequented this theater a lot. Friends and I would line up hours before our showing. One time while we were in line I was telling some friends of mine that I personally thought this theater had the best sound in any theater I've been to. The guy in front of me turned around and said that he was a sound engineer and had heard that Lucas used the Village as the model for THX. Go figure. Could it use an update to amphitheater seating, sure but this is a landmark that shouldn't be missed.
One of the best old large theater we have left in Westwood California. Fortunately they have a pristine picture and THX sound. No Time To Die is the final Daniel Craig Bond film, I had to return to the Regency Village where I saw Skyfall three times each time bring a different get of friends. If you crave that big screen experience that Christopher Nolan speaks about. Give this amazing theatre a try. Also only $11.00 for the matinee show. Love this theatre and have seen many fine movies here.
Such a beautiful movie theater! Love the UCLA student discount. The employees do regularly tick me off by making a fuss about me bringing my scooter. They once told me that I would have to hold my scooter on my lap as not to block the walkway, which I found ridiculous, particularly given that the movie theater is rarely crowded, and that many theaters will store my scooter in a broom closet for me. They emphasized that they would be "watching to make sure" that I complied.
In an era where small theatres are more a luxury than the rule, this place is a nice breath of fresh air. Compared with the Village Theatre just across the street it is very small, and is usually underwhelming to watch 3D movies there. The place is usually swarming with UCLA students who tend to clap at the end of the movie or make sassy comments in the middle. Not the best experience you may have, but still, a nice reminder of what going to the cinema used to be.
A unique place to see a movie! I've attended a couple of premieres here, as well as catching a new flick without battling the crowds at AMC, and it's always a cool experience. There are over 800 seats and a balcony, so it has the feel of "old Hollywood." The staff is friendly, and while the seats are not as posh or comfortable as stadium seating or recliners, there is something neat about sacrificing that in order to see a film in such a neat venue.
In early November I had the displeasure of meeting the theater’s manager, Obet Maldonado. Obet was extremely rude and boorish to me when I attempted to talk with him about a special request. Moreover, he lied multiple times about other instances of that request and then admitted it himself before slamming the theater door in my face. I won’t come close to the theater while that boorish man is working there and scaring off potential clients.
They seem to only screen one movie at a time, but that theater hall is massive! It looks quite exquisite, and even has a balcony on the top. They also have a decent selection of snacks, popcorn, even caramel popcorn. That just stole the show for me, coz I love caramel popcorn and sadly most other theaters don't have it. You can also book tickets on the Atom app here, so that opportunity for discounts is a bonus!
I love these old theatres! This one is very large with a balcony; however, it is not stadium seating. The seats are slanted so you can still see the screen. The popcorn is above average but I have never had stale popcorn here. Since it is an older theatre, the bathrooms are located downstairs and there are only about 6 stalls. If the movie is crowded, expect to wait in line for the restroom.
I've seen three films here over as many months: the final Daniel Craig Bond film, the first part of Villenueve's "Dune", and "Spiderman: No Way Home." Like many landmark, historuc L.A. theatres, its a bit cold and cavernous, but it remains one of the best places to see epic, but budget films in my immediate area, for the huge screen and state of the art sound system.
Westwood Village Theatre has some history behind it, but that age is showing in a not-so-good-way, too. Overall, I like the theater: large, good presentation, cool venue. But on the other hand, it's kind of dingy and worn, and the seats are sagging and a bit uncomfortable. Also, no reserved seating. Not bad, not great, certainly serviceable.
Beautiful classic theater with great pricing and services. The enormous screen is great for viewing new films! My only gripes are that parking is tough in Westwood, and I wish the theater could host more than one film at a time - I'd definitely go multiple times to see different films instead of having to wait for a new film to rotate in.
The younger, hispanic manager has NO client relationship awareness. He put money first, and human interaction second. Based on my encounter with the staff here, I will not be coming back. It's a shame to have such a beautiful cinema, and such unkind staff. (Also watch out for the homeless who sleep in the shade of the entrance yawning)
Most significant of the historic theaters in Westwood. Huge single screen inside, even bigger than the tower hints at. Kept in the original Art Deco fashion, down to the restrooms. Just keep in mind as a single-screen venue, concessions and restrooms are sized appropriately, so you will have to deal with lines for popular showings.
I live close by and I probably see every movie they show. I like it best in the summer time because less students = less talking/interruptions during the show. But I still come on a regular basis even during the school year. Very friendly staff!! And it’s wonderful viewing the details of the actual building as well.
Was here for the premier of Good Boys. Getting in is fine but when the movie is over and 600 plus people trying to get out of a theater at the same time and they have things barricaded of for celebrities and press, patience is the key. All and all had a good time, movie was great, and would do it all over again.
This is old school movie theater. Its one huge space with very high ceilings. Most of the time the audience is made up of UCLA students, so if you are above that age group you might feel out of place. Sound system is decent but acoustics due to large space are bad. They give student discount.
The big draw for me is the 70 mm screen - the first time I went to this theater was for “Die Hard” in the 80’s. Most recently, I saw “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” here and I’m glad I did instead of going to TCL Chinese theater (sometimes IMAX 3D isn’t worth the $24+ ticket).
This prominent edifice is one of the few great landmarks where millions over the years have seen so many great films. I love watching a movie here as I have done for decades, one of the few movie palaces one can see from the air. It is a true icon, beautiful inside and out.
Fun place to visit near UCLA. Lots of places to dine, but it can be pricey at some places. Luckily they cater to college crowds so, you'll find a taco truck and So Cal's favorite burger In-n-Out. Traffic is bad and parking is scarce if you want to take the trip.
Great place to enjoy a film, especially on opening weekend. UCLA students and film buffs pack the theater and it is an experience! Everyone cheering, clapping and laughing. This how we used to experience movies before the introduction of the crammed multi-plex.
Really awesome really historical theater. Great sound with a classic feel to it. The staff are really friendly too. The seats were nice but compared to other theaters it could be better. Great place to go with the family for the big box office movies.
Came here for early screening for Grantursimo. Great movie, by the way!! Gamer turns into F1 race driver! Movie theater location is close to the UCLA campus. It's pretty spacious and has a historical feel to it. Plenty of seats with great sounds.
Old school theater before the time of multiplexes. I love this theatre!!! Used to go here as a college kid back in the day, now I have couple of kids and live in OC. But I still come here with my family to experience what movie going should be.
I like going to this theater because parking is easy, the theater is never crowded, the screen is huge, the sound system is pretty good and concession prices are reasonable. The seats are a little outdated but that's the only real negative.
This is a great theater with one of the best screens and the best SOUND in Los Angeles. The staff is friendly and keeps the theater looking good. Also, points for the Bruin across the street. There is no way to praise this theatre enough.
It's simply the best non-Imax movie theater there is. Huge screen. The best sound. Giant auditorium with 1300 seats. Even a balcony! Why would anyone go to a generic multiplex when you could see a movie in this temple to cinema?!
Saw the 1:30 pm showing of "A Quiet Place II " yesterday. About 1 hour in, movie started ghosting, they had to stop it and find the spot it started having problems. Attribute that to not running movies in over a year.
Great theater but concessions are SLOW. It took 10 min to get a pretzel and when I finally got it, it had the consistency of playdough. They offered to make a new one, but I'd already missed enough of the movie as is.
Fox Theatre is great - old school style with a balcony and just a nice place to see a movie. The Bruin across the street lacks the charm and is feeling a bit dated, chairs are funky and nothing special about that one.
Love this theatre! It's huge and classic. I love sitting in the balcony and watching a movie. I just got to see Spiderman and it was really cool. Great sound and the concession prices are like half a regular theatre
One theater, one movie and yet the concession line is always freaking four lines and super long wait. Maybe it's different when it's not a cast and crew screening. I wouldn't want to come here and find out though.
Let's see: Art Deco structure with great sound & picture. I wish that the architecture be renovated into something modern to mix in with the retail shops in the still-dry, almost uninteresting Westwood area.
a 1200 seat movie palace that harkens back to the days of the 1930s, this place is great for movie premieres and opening weekends. We watched Star Wars the Phantom Menace in here and the crowd was electric.
Nice place to watch a movie usually only one film plays which makes it nice because it's very relaxing to come and know what you will watch and not wait forever at the food stand... I enjoy the vibe here
Awesome theater! They only have one feature presentation at a time, but anything you get to see here will be quite epic. Love the balcony seating and the traditional performance theater feeling.
Super awesome theater! Popcorn always very tasty. Only problem is on occasion the moving time posted online is different from the signs on the ticket booth. Other than that a great place to go.
All the rustic feels, the reclining seats, the awesome balcony, service down to the key lime candy's they personally hand out as you leave with a warm goodbye.. Love Fox theater, always have.
My favorite theater on the Westside; it has the best picture, best sound, and best architecture. Why go to a shopping mall to watch a feature film when you can be a part of history instead?
My favorite! Huge, old timey theater that's been well kept and very clean! Friendly staff and great atmosphere. The spacious balcony is my favorite part (plus they show 70mm sometimes!!)
Love this place! It's a single giant theater with Dolby Atmos sound that only shows one movie a few times a day. Never crowded, and tickets are much cheaper than everywhere else in LA.
Went there for the screening premiere of Annabelle Comes Home and it was perfect. Fast service, great security system, and the theatre is so big and nice. Check out the huge screen!
Discounted tickets for students, Dolby sound, and dual laser projectors. Can't get much better, except maybe stadium seating, but the old-fashioned movie house decor has its charm.
Staff is so friendly, the theatre has such a nice old feel for it and they do student discounts. The bathroom is also really fancy and there’s water fountains. Love coming here
Went here for a cast and crew movie showing! Movie was great but seats were uncomftable, NO TOILET PAPER in restroom in any of the women stalls . Didnt care to pay to come here
I love this theater. It's a classic that b I've been going to since middle school. Other than the bathrooms being way too small seeing a movie there is a great experience.
A very historic movie theater that has deep roots. You can watch blockbuster movies here or at the movie theater across the street. There is a discount for UCLA students.
Huge theater with a balcony and a snazzy marquee.Comfy seats, state of the art sound/picture. Friendly staff, too. This historic jewel is a must for any real movie fan. .
Went there to see Paul Thomas Anderson’s "licorice pizza", and this theater was amazing! It’s so beautiful, and the atmosphere was so 60s, so I definitely recommend it!!
The employee kept walking up and down the theater aisles while the movie was playing. Incredibly distracting and not the best experience while watching a horror movie...
Theatre is large, seats are comfy and parking is close and not too expensive $8. Then again, we did the Wednesday matinee version of We're the Millers so there ya go!
Fantastic. I went there with a friend to watch black panther. Terrible movie but great theatre. Getting the tickets is easy plus they do discounts for ucla students.
This theater was like a step back in time, it was awesome. The sound and screen picture was amazing!!! It us a must visit place to see and enjoy a movie!!!!! 5*****
Perfect place to watch any movie. But I recommend saving your experience for a really good imax style movie. Prices are reasonable especially if you get the matinee
Old school place and is close to many restaurants. Also wasn't too crowded (that could have been based on our movie choice lol) but overall a good experience!
Haven't been here in decades! Westwood doesn't have nearly as many tasty places to eat any more but this cinema is still good for an event movie. …
Without question, the world’s best theatre. Biggest screen in town, fantastic sound, and even a balcony. THX was actually designed using this theatre.
Affordable, student discount! ($10.50) huge theatre and it’s really old and beautiful inside. Haven’t had the snacks but my friend enjoyed a hotdog.
It's been ages since I last visited! Westwood's dining scene has diminished, but this cinema still shines for a special movie night out! …
A fine, classic theater with one screen and auditorium style seating. Limited runs, but a fun viewing experience, especially if a film is openning.
Awesome theater to see a movie. Theater was practically empty on the 2nd day of a movie premier. Loved the ambiance and the popcorn was great too.
Love this place. Beautiful, grand building, with classic 1920s era interiors. One screen, one film showing i.e. no sound bleed from other films!
Huge place, almost always empty. Best place to see a movie. Sound system is great. The 3 Westwood village theaters are always my 1st choice.
this theater sometimes has movies the night before they are released. the student discount is great too and the staff is really friendly.
Totally has that 1980 feel here, as if the movie "Tron" is going to debut and life seems like a cross between Caddyshack and Starman!
Brilliant audio that amplifies the stunning vintage theater, in it's glory. Loved watching Aquaman here. Couldn't have been better.
Very nice theater. Came for a premiere and when I asked for a glass of water instead of soda they just gave me a bottle instead. :)
Great place to see a film. A real piece of American vintage cinema (but bang up to date tech). A stunning piece of architecture.
Great theater. Only one screen, but it is very large and the pricing is very fair. There is also a discount for UCLA students.
Although it doesn't have stadium seating, the sight lines to the screen are pretty good. Plus it has a classic charm about it.
The theatre is massive on the inside! Never been in one with so many seats. I got to attend the premiere of Smallfoot here
Best theater in Los Angeles. Great history at this place. Old Hollywood style and excellent sound. Classic feel. Love it.
The last of the old style single screen theaters in Los Angeles. A great classic and an unbeatable place to see a movie.
Single screen historic theater, still used for red carpet premiers. A fun and convenient place to see a new release.
Beautiful, the seats are comfortable, the staff is nice and it's almost always empty so you can get the best seats.
Worked here is the early 90's. Still one of my favorite theaters to go to. The ticket taker Duncan is still there.
Love the balcony seating and the friendly staff but my favorite thing is that this theater is never overcrowded!
Tonight was my first movie premiere ever! I watched The Brothers Grimsby with my best friend, it was hilarious!
Classic architecture enhances movie going experience. Friendly & knowledgeable staff make for a lovely evening
Absolutely loved the vibe. First time sitting in a balcony in years! And Regency's popcorn is the best around.
The best theatre for opening night. Great sound but could be a little louder (like it was in the early 2000s)
We felt safe there at a movie premier knowing that the ATF SECURITY COMPANY was there keeping us safe. Amen.
very beautiful and large theater with awesome sound. matinees are the best if you want to avoid huge crowds
Classic theatrical ambiance, fresh as new. Good presentation. There's even a balcony. A memorable place.
First time visiting this theater and was pleased with the architecture, accessibility and cleanliness.
Great theaters, right next to UCLA, and a good place to see movie stars showing up to their premieres.
It was a large theater. Nice crowd and the movie was the funniest of the year, if not of the last 10
Great theater, affordable concessions. It is large with a large audience but is a pretty good time!
Absolutely lovely theater! Staff was wonderful. Great old style cinema for a nostalgic experience.
Loved the huge screen. Felt almost like an Imax. Seats were comfy too. Would definitely come back.
My favorite theater. Huge screen, great sound, not usually very crowded so plenty of good seats
I freaking love this theater! I watch my favorite movies on this one even if I live in NoHo
We had an awesome time at the theatre. Great place to hang out and enjoy a movie ....
Very good theater, but not as big and grand as the Village Theater across the street.
Awesome theater! Great sound, image, exceptional service. Would love to come back!
