Sometimes all it takes is one spoiled apple to ruin the entire experience. An extremely pleasant lady, Ms. Marlyn (or something along those lines, my apologies) assisted me with setting up an account and getting a card. She showed me around a little bit and was extremely helpful when it came to the computers, upcoming emails I’ll receive, and the lay of the land. Then some creature that originated from a long line of amplifiers what with her volume (not Ms. M, but some young thing that liked the sound of her own voice) decided to ruin the entire experience. On and off for at least 45 minutes she was openly discussing politics and her blatant view on our government with any other employee that would listen - to the point where the non-employees around me were discussing her volume. She, a government-funded employee, was also saying snarky remarks behind the back of another employee that called to ask why things had been moved around. I’m not going back to that branch - if I wanted a rundown of the politics of the world I would have intentionally went to the section of books entitled ‘Politics’. If I wanted to hear someone badmouth their fellow employees for asking a simple question I would’ve looked up ‘Toxic Work Environments’. Not the time. Not the place. Punch in. Punch out. Go get a coffee with your friends(God bless their hearts). THEN start making everyone around you miserable.

I really liked this my neighbor branch until today. I went over there just wanted to printed out a couple of papers. Since I have'nt done it so long I needed some help. The mid age guy with gray hair helped me, but he looked like reluctant from the beginning. Yes, he explained everything from check in and printing everything, just once really fast like a robot, Not saying "let me know if you need help" or nothing, he just wanted to finish it. When I went back to front desk with a little confusion, He seemed like irritated, and he found out I didn't count how many paper I tried to print out, he raised his voice, and he started saying "I Told you..!! " and I said sorry I just could'nt remember what I had to to everything. I hate that line anyway people says. " I told you!" you are not my parent!! I am not your kid! You are librarian to help people out in the library, and also some people were line up behind me. It was embarrassing too! Do not treat people like ignorant even if they don't understand with just one time quick explanation.

In 2017 the Jax Public Library won library of the year for the state of the Florida and there is quite a few reasons why. Our home branch is Willowbranch and we readily use it as a source of entertainment for my 1 year old daughter. On Tuesdays Mr. Joe hosts Music and Movement at 1030 and 1100. Tip: show up at 1000 to get a card for the 1030 session, it fills up fast. They have over 120 kids and parents come in to sing, dance, read, and play. On Friday at 1030 Ms. Jeanie has an art project that you get to take home and continue learning on your own. She puts a lot of forethought into the topic and has a tremendous amount of patience. It is a small library but we always find new things to read and the building is beautiful. After you explore the library, you can play at Willowbranch park or go to the public garden on the corner of Park St and Remmington.

Willowbranch Library is the oldest operating branch in the large Jacksonville Public Library system. Built in 1930 by Bernard Close this Mediterranean designed building is an architectural gem in the historic Riverside Avondale historic district. The facilities offer book, cd, dvd lending, access to computers and free WiFi. The library is vibrant with a Friends of Willowbranch Library that offers support to the library for programs and projects. Free tech help on laptops and tablets are available certain times of the week. If you have a library card and a tablet you will have access to a number of electronic resources such as ebooks and national Magazines, such as Smithsonian and O (Oprah’s Magazine).

Hands down my daughter and I's favorite library. They have a great downstairs kids section with reading rugs and toys. The librarians always pick out great book recommendations for my daughter. Mr. Joe's storytime is the place to be and is wildly popular for kids. Just make sure to get there early! The adult section is nice as well with good sitting areas. It is located near Willowbranch park so you can easily grab a book and enjoy it outdoors. Willowbranch Library has a great central location in the Riverside-Avondale area that you can enjoy other local sites nearby after you visit the library. We usually end up here weekly enjoying all this library has to offer!

But one of the male librarians has an unhelpful attitude. I was in there today trying to update my resume and I could not concentrate due to a kid crying very loudly. I'm not upset because the kid was crying. It was because the mom would not stop what she was doing to take care of the kid and all the librarians just continued what they were doing and ignoring the fact that it is a library and we go to libraries because it is easier to concentrate in a quiet atmosphere away from the distractions at home. If you have kids you would understand this. Great selection of books though. Had to minus 2 stars because of the distractions.

This is review is from my experience before the COVID pandemic. This library is by far one of the best libraries alongside the West, Southeast, and San Marco branches. At 90, this is one of the cleanest and most organized libraries in Duval County. The tables are clean and the children's library and set up in a way that it is not distracting other library patrons whenever a child starts throwing tantrums. The view of the library overlooking the park adds an extra flair to this small, but quaint library. For anyone looking for a library to easily study or read a book in, come visit the Willowbranch Library.

It do what it do, imo tho paper books are legacy and the space should be reclaimed as personal spaces for people to set up a laptop/whatever in comfort and privacy. Small collection of paper books can be kept on hand for the Boomers, and keep the kiddie areas or expand them. If you are an 100 yr old that just HAS TO HAVE the paper copy, it can be delivered instead of trying to keep so many in stock at the branches. boom just saved your city millions and improved it. Will never happen though because its a way to filter money from the people as is.

I was worried I would have to drive far away every time but it was such a relief once I found they had this library close to my place. It is smaller obviously in comparison to the main one however It’s a place for people who are in love with books. Always quick to respond, helpful, and professional. I value the support and ability to access the support the library team offers, and the kid's zone is cozy and joyful. My daughter loves spending time playing there, thanks for the good service.

Storytime is great for small children. Ms. Bell used to run it and she did a fantastic job. Now Mr. Joe does it and he is so wonderful! The kids seem love him. There is a small area to play in the children’s area and tables for crafts/homework. The book selection is small, but you can select any book within the library system and have it delivered to your neighborhood branch. Easy peasy, as my kid says. We love this library.

  • Juliet Byrd

Mr. Joe is the greatest for the children. He does a marvelous job with story time, is very helpful outside of story time with the kids, and will even play with the younger ones. The rest of the staff is very helpful and kind, but Mr. Joe just puts it over the top. We have been to other Library story times, even the ones in St. Augustine, and Mr. Joe by far beats anyone else we've experienced.

This is a wonderful branch of the library. I love JPL in general, but this branch is especially great as my baby and I go every week to Pop Up Story Time. He gets such joy out of it which in turn brings me great joy. He's learning, he's socializing in a distanced way and he's having a great time. What more can you ask for? Also, I love checking out ebooks from home for myself and my baby.

  • LJ

A great small branch with a lot to offer, especially for young people. This branch should be applauded for supporting a diverse customer base with the Storybook Pride Prom event. Especially with all the backlash against this fun and harmless event, the library system and the larger community should be proud of the Willowbranch staff for making this happen.

I love this library. My daughter I and often visit and we read a bazillion books in the comfy rocking chairs downstairs. We keep meaning to take advantage of the group reading sessions and other amazing programs available at this library. Keep up the wonderful work, we really appreciate you! Hopefully I'll raise a bibliophile just like my mom did. <3

Love this library. Researched a novel about WWI. They brought reference material from down branch, helped me on-line. The library is quiet, a great place to get work done, and also run into friends who are coming to check out a book. (I do a lot of my pleasure reading checkouts from they also.)

Reopened after a long hiatus. Beautiful building. Excellent location. Helpful staff. Size limits the collection relative to the main library, but interlibrary delivery is free and easy via app or web. City budget cuts have led to some unusual hours, but not their fault at this branch.

  • Shea Backmann

We visit Willowbranch Library most Fridays for their storytime for kids. Joe does an AMAZING job! It's very obvious that he cares about creating a fun, welcoming, and engaging atmosphere for the kids (and parents!). He even brings his ukulele to play and sing songs!

Excelente atención. Un apacible lugar en Jacksonville donde puedes encontrar varios textos y volúmenes. Puedes acceder a una sala de computación y navegar en Internet. Hay periódicos y revistas. Abre a las 10:00am y cierra 6:00pm. Voy a regresar.

My absolute favorite library. Downtown Main Library is regal and awe inspiring. Willow branch is comfy. When I win the lottery, I will build a house just like this ! Enormous reading area full of books and light. the rest is unimportant! LOL.

  • Lindsey EP

If you haven’t been to Mr. Joe’s story time, it is amazing! We recently moved away and we miss going to his story time every week!! The best story time we have been to. And the library is great! Especially the kids section!
