This park is the only example of a Bottom Land Hardwood Forest left in New Orleans. It has bathrooms and covered Picnic areas along with a short trail thru the woods. Audubon keeps the park closed during those times when you children are out of school and could actually go. Why would Audubon want to exclude the children and limit access to this City Of New Orleans Owned Park? From the Audubon web site: Hours Open seasonally for spring (February, March, April, May) and fall (September, October, November). Weekdays | Open to the general public free of charge Monday - Friday: 9:30am – 4:30pm Weekends | Open to groups for fee-based educational programs only Saturday - Sunday: By reservation only The Wilderness Park is closed on Mardi Gras, Memorial Day, Labor Day and Thanksgiving.
Great directions... Sad that whole facility closed on weekends and only open until 4:30 weekdays. Visiting area and won't be able to get to see it.
