PLEASE READ THIS EXPERIENCE and then run from this company. By far the WORST insurance company ever! They don’t deserve the minimum 1 star rating here... too bad there was not a negative star rating for this company = RBC/Aviva Insurance. I have 44 years of driving without any accidents, no tickets and never late with a payment and please just read what they did to me. It was our renewal time and the booklet Aviva ask us to fill out was completed and mailed back to them 1-2 weeks in advance (as per THEIR instructions.) Without a phone call, registered letter or ANY form of communication the policy was allowed to expire “lapse” without us knowing! I was doing my banking and noticed my monthly payment was not automatically taken last week. I called immediately and they said the mailed booklet (they told us to mail) was received a day late (even though it was mailed in plenty of time) and the policy automatically lapsed. That is how I learned that for the last week we were driving uninsured!!! The agent actually told me we were uninsured! She said that “usually” they send a letter but she could see there wasn’t one sent and asked if I would like her to send one right then!!! WHAT IS WRONG WITH THEM? Of all the people that should understand the importance of not driving without insurance is them. (I am so thankful we were not in an accident.) Nevertheless, she said she would like to open a new file and of course... with a new price that DOUBLED and a new rule of no more monthly payments (in Alberta) but annual payments with the new policy!!! FYI. Belair Direct took my driving information and after the application process offered me insurance a few dollars cheaper than our “old” policy with better coverage (which is almost half the price of the new file Aviva just quoted me today) A few more words to summarize RBC/Aviva: Unfair business practices; likely illegal practices; definitely unethical practices; down right dangerous practices; and most irresponsible company.

I wish I could give negative stars. My insurance isn't through them but my boyfriends is. And Let. Me. Tell. You. What a garbage insurance company this is. My boyfriends truck was stolen over 5 months ago and they have literally done nothing to help the situation. They "pay you out" within 10 days of your vehicle not being found. Well LUCKY FOR US we couldn't get a hold of them for 3 weeks, and then they forgot to put the claim in for over a week, and then on "day 9" from when they put the claim in it was found. 6 WEEKS LATER. Then they did absolutely nothing when his truck sat in the police impound lot for 6 weeks when it was found. They did nothing when the lot said they were going to auction it off if WE didn't come get it, which also how lucky for us that we had to give insurance our truck keys. They won't tell us whether or not they actually have possession of his truck because they're being so shady with their answers, so we think it actually got auctioned off because when the auction rolled around it wasn't there anymore. And now we haven't heard from them in over a month so we'll never know where his truck is. But don't you worry, they'll charge you double your monthly the whole time. What a scam. Money grab. Someone needs to take this company DOWN. Over 5 months later, we don't know if his truck got auctioned, or if insurance has it, or if we'll ever get it back. AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS. UPDATE: It has been 8 months. Still not dealt with. The truck did get auctioned off, which we found out about weeks later. Boyfriend is STILL paying for insurance on a truck that HE DOESN'T OWN and is registered and insurance by SOMEONE ELSE because Aviva let his truck get sold. But again, don't worry because we still can't get a hold of anybody and nobody ever reaches out... This should have been dealt with 7 months ago. Con-artists. DO NOT USE AVIVA.

I made my first claim almost 4 weeks ago now and have been wasting my time trying to contact my adjuster because I haven't heard boo back from anyone at Aviva. 2 emails and 2 phone calls that I have initiated and absolutely no correspondence back. The auto body shop could not proceed to book me in for repairs because my claim was "without prejudice" which means Aviva needs to speak to me...BUT NO ONE HAS CALLED ME IN 3 WEEKS. (Meanwhile I'm driving around a car with a front bumper that is zip-tied to the frame, because my policy only covers $900 in rental fees--figured I'd wait on the rental until my car is in the shop, good thing I did because I'd be maxed out by now!) I finally called just the main line, and was told that because fault has not been determined (my parked car was hit by a drunk driver reversing out of a parking lot), my deductible stands and I'm responsible for it. I asked how to go about determining fault, and was told the adjuster needs to contact the third party's insurance. How has this not been done yet?! I get it that it's a busy season, but the lack of communication is just horrendous. And then, I was told by another adjuster that I would be contacted once they had information from the third party insurance, to which I thanked her and, then she just HUNG UP. No "thank you for your patience with us" or "sorry for any inconvenience" or even "have a nice day", just HUNG UP!! I'm so frustrated with this entire process, I have made a claim before with another insurance company and it was easy breezy. I spent 35 minutes on the phone with these people today alone, while I am at work, because I can't ever reach anyone any other time or by email! I bet my rates will increase too--I'm just going to expect the worst and hope for the best from Aviva from here on out until I can cancel my policy!

Is there a way to rate 0 stars? My family and I were all with RBC for decades before they were bought out by Aviva. Loved RBC! Recently, I had been asking why the pro rated price was so high for my old 96 Cavalier which I sold to my SO, the CSR was indignant and rude. Refused to explain anything told me "I've worked here for 5 years. It makes sense." I told her to keep the vehicle on my policy in which she snapped that I sold it so it's coming off. I firmly told her if they're charging $60/month to take it off when I pay $80/month to drive it I will not be authorizing the removal and will keep the vehicle under my name. My policy renewed 6 months ago, the $20 difference didn't make sense and due to her declining to explain the math, I drive 2 vehicles. My sister was told they don't offer same day insurance when she bought a new car, but gave it to me when I bought my new wheels after her. The CSR's seem to make up their own rules regarding the company policy and are often rude and belittling to customers. They recently sent my Mom, who is a great driver, a notice stating they require her to fill out multiple forms IF she wants to stay with them. They stated they will not be offering monthly installments and any insurance will be paid for the year in full. My Mom rarely has tickets (1 every 8 years, if that), doesn't miss payments, and has a grid level better than mine (mine is -8). She was with RBC for over 2 decades. DO NOT SIGN ON WITH AVIVA! THEY SUCK TO DEAL WITH. THEY'RE SLOW WHEN PROCESSING CLAIMS. CHECK OUT SONNET OR BEL AIRE FOR BETTER PRICES. My family and I will all be finding a new insurance company when our policies expire.

Zero stars. I was assigned an inexperienced and poorly trained adjustor, Susie Symes, who doesn’t even have the proper technical language to discuss estimates and has no clue what she is doing. She suggested paintless dent repair for paint damage on my vehicle, couldn’t answer most of my questions, answered questions inconsistently, and gave me misinformation about betterment. Communication was terrible, she wouldn’t ask questions about the damage or estimates, she just makes assumptions. When I called her out on these issues she sent me an unprofessional response, made excuse after excuse, and told me she is “speaking her truth”. From what I can see there is very little truth in how she conducts herself on behalf of Aviva. I tried to get assistance from her team lead, Chelsea Pyykonen, but she can’t be bothered to return my calls or emails. The saving grace was getting an experienced field estimator out to view the damage on my vehicle and confirm the estimate I had was more than fair, but that was only after I insisted she send one. Aviva is clearly trying to save money in every aspect: limited training, cutting back on estimate amounts, hiring ineffective employees, and not addressing the concerns of paying customers. We all know insurance companies stay profitable by not paying out whenever possible, but they seem particularly dedicated in this case. Aviva has made absolutely every part of this process so much more difficult than it needs to be, and clearly their client experience is the absolute last priority. Do yourself a favour, get your insurance coverage anywhere other than Aviva.

My insurance agent got me this Aviva company because it is the cheapest in town .. does not mean the best though. It is a UK based company and in Canada, it seems to contract out a lot of its services/tasks. I was recently rear-ended (on a Thursday afternoon) and called the toll-free number on the insurance card, just to got asked a lot of questions, but not provided any help at all. The adjusters don't work weekends, so I have to wait until the following Monday (at the end of day) when the adjuster called. Too bad I missed the call and didnt get to talk to anybody until the Tuesday morning (4 days lapsed) to sort things out and on the 5th day morning, I got a rental vehicle and get to send my vehicle to the body shop, but the vehicle estimator is from another city. Day-6 is when I get to talk to another adjuster for body injuries, so that I can go get chiropractor/physio treatment. Today is day-12 and I still haven't heard anything back regarding my vehicle (estimates, when will it be fixed, etc.). So I decided to contact my adjuster, only to find out she is on vacation and wont be back till next Monday (that will be day-18). So far, I spoke to a total of 4 different people to try to sort things out, and still no conclusion except for chiropractor treatments. I have a sense this is going to be a very long "adventure" to get things right. It is frustrated dealing with Aviva and its network of contractors. You decide for yourself if this kind of hassle is worth the puny savings.

Zero stars. If you’re looking for insurance, please go somewhere else. This is the shadiest Insurance company around. Not only do they take over other insurance companies/brokers, they don’t tell their clients that they’ve done so and when you go to call them, you have to go through six different brokers to find the company that you were originally signed with and they don’t even know who you are half the time even if you’ve been with them for 15+years. When it time comes for a claim, good luck trying to get your money or help for that matter. We have been without water since summer, because of a leak that this company refused to pay for and they tried to say that they don’t cover for certain piping and we know that they do. They refused to acknowledge that any of our issues are issues that they can deal with. If they insure houses for this piping, then they will insure our place for this piping and it’s in our contract. They are lying and cheating like most insurance companies and it’s actually disgusting, especially in this day and age. I am disabled, and my husband has been supporting the both of us, and our income is very low at this point, and they wanted us to pay without even telling us for the plumbers to come over. I am so disappointed and disgusted by the treatment from this company and cannot wait to find a different one. Any suggestions?

I would give negative 100 stars if I could. Wish I had read reviews before doing business with this company. Just know that the only contact you will have with them is when they debit your account every month; it is impossible to reach them on phone when you need help. Got a new job and my new employer needed me to submit a claims history letter as it’s part of the company policy and a condition for employment. Called everyday for about a week, I would get an agent after being on hold for about 4 hours, and then they would claim that they are not the right person to help me with the said letter, they would put me back on the call que, only for me to wait for another couple of hours for another agent who would then claim that I have been transferred to the wrong department and put me on the hold line again. This went on for about 5 days . Even had to take a day off work just to call them to see if I will finally get someone to help me . Needless to say I lost the job to the back-up candidate, after the new employer waited for me for a full week and I still couldn’t get a claims history letter from this company. I have been with this insurer for over a year, never had a claim before, never had any reason to call them until now. Forget any positive reviews you see on here, won’t be surprised if they are all fake. Proceed with them at your own peril.

This company is absolutely embarrassing to the insurance industry and should be ashamed of the way that they conduct business. I was in an accident in March, firefighters were on scene to clean up the mess, exchanged info, called the police, made a statement and followed the minimal advice they offered when I called them while waiting for police to show up at the scene. The other driver did an illegal lane change in front of me which is textbook 100% his fault. His company is arguing 50/50 and Aviva just doesn't seem to want to try to represent my side. The adjuster filled out the forms wrong so my claim didn't even start until 10 days after it was submitted. My car sat at the autobody waiting while I lost my covered days for a rental. They would go weeks without contacting me back and provide zero details on what they're doing on my behalf. I had to send definitions of Alberta traffic law and a YouTube video and they still won't do anything. It's embarrassing that a company can get away with operating this poorly and treating people the way they do. I've had to go as far as hiring a lawyer to represent me so I don't get stuck paying a deductible and losing points on my license for a textbook accident that isn't my fault. Do not even consider Aviva if you want a high quality insurance experience.

Horrible company. Wife got rear-ended at a yield, and 3 plus weeks have gone by & our agent Amber Dorey has done nothing with the claim other then set it up to goto the auto body. We drop ped the suv off at the auto body on week 4 and the shop says Aviva says we need to pay the deductible for an non-fault accident as Amber has done nothing to process the claim since 3 weeks ago. Only heard from Amber Dorey once saying she can't get a hold of the other insurance company (TD), which is a totally lie. After that she never responded to voice mails or calls. We even called to speak to her supervisor Helen which our call was pushed to voicemail. We left a voice mail requesting a call back & never received back from Helen either. UPDATE: We finally got a random agent Tracy from Aviva to make the call to TD to confirm the accident was their clients fault. Took her 5 - 10 min & she sorted it all out & removed the deductible . Still never heard back from Amber Dorey or her supervision Helen Stay far away from Aviva. Once we get our suv back etc, we will be switching insurance company's quickly

By far the worst company imaginable. I was insured with them for 15 years, no claims. We had three cars insured with them. One day a mailer comes out requesting updated information on our cars. They had all the information requested, but we filled it out anyway. Three weeks later it comes back missing my Wife's signature in one spot. No problem, signed, sent back. Well...they didn't "receive" it, Canada post being what it is, I can see that. But what I didn't expect is that they would up and cancel our policy overnight and then not even have the courtesy to tell us. When our pink slips did not arrive, we called and learned that they just cancelled our policy. Haha, jokes on you; you're not insured. So we asked "O.K. insure us then." "That will be four weeks." They answer. A month? They expected us to park our cars for a month. Naturally we called another company and were easily insured THAT DAY. They almost seemed to enjoy our situation. That's the thanks I get for insuring with them for 15 years without a claim. If you want to deal with scum, call AVIVA.

  • James Carlisle

Was in a not-at-fault accident as someone rear ended our vehicle and dealilng with Aviva has been nothing short of a nightmare. Poor response times, terrible service, and generally making us feel like we were an inconvenience to them has made me never want to get insurance through this company again. They wrote off our vehicle and were quick to get us to return the rental vehicle, which was the only mode of transport we had left after loosing ours. The cheque didn't arrive for 5 days after accepting their offer, and because of the financing on the vehicle that was written off, is going to take over a month to actually see the money for that vehicle. In the mean time, this has forced me to attempt to get a replacement with no money in an incredibly short time frame. Needless to say this has caused incredible stress and frustration is an understatement. Clearly this company doesn't care about it's customers. I actively encourage anyone to avoid Aviva and if you are currently with them to contact your broker about changing to a different company.

My 80 year old mother had an accident she was in the lane driving straight and a pickup hit her on the left side taking out the wing mirror door and side of the car. The guy who hit her was changing lanes she was going straight. He mentioned this at the police in front of the Calgary Police Service. Clearly they other driver was wrong. BUT the other driver is a young man also insured with Aviva. So they tell my mother who again is turning 80 that it's a shared fault. She will take 50% blame. Now their job is to represent their clients to the best of their ability honestly and if need be use their legal and all means they have to best serve their clients. Well when they have two clients they seem to have dropped the ethics out of this. The right person should not be penalized because they have a young client who will give them business for longer. Jennifer the agent in Calgary cut me off while I was talking 5 times. They are not a good company to deal with. Avoid them and read their reviews they are HORRIBLE

Zero (0) stars. Zero (0) minus Infinity stars. Average wait time to speak with a customer representative? In excess of FOUR (4) hours?!?!? In excess of a FIVE (5) hour wait on the two (2) prior days. You have to be kidding me! It is really difficult to believe that this could be an actual true story. It is! I assure you! How does one cancel their policy in disgust and absolute contempt without contacting customer service (4+ hours)?? Unbelievable! They are happy to auto withdrawal your insurance premium monthly from your account. Not willing to provide customer service to you until you have waited FIVE (5) hours and charged your cell phone twice while waiting. Criminal! There needs to be a "business ethics" chapter in Canada's criminal code to deal with this kind of rare case of a Business showing very clear and obvious contempt for their own customer base. Corporate evil on par with 5 year cell phone/ gym/ internet provider plans, online gambling and pay day loans.

I have been with Aviva for almost 12 years I did a review on them about two months ago but now I will do another. I had an incident where I wasn’t notified of a change in my policy and received 50 percent which was a hundred percent replacement coverage when originally signed up. I ended up with hail damage first ever claim on my house was mad it got only covered 50 percent. We’ll come renewal time not informed once again but come time to take payment out my insurance jumped from 268 to 494 a month why because I put the hail claim through told me I no longer get a discount on my insurance. Checked with another company immediately and got insurance not only cheaper then what I was originally paying but 100 percent coverage and 1000 deductible instead of 2500 deductible which when I originally signed was only a thousand. Shop around people because they will indeed rip you off. Your good until you have a claim.

  • Juni Perberry

I just left a very similar review on the Sharp Insurance brokers' Google review site. Sharp insurance gave me a good quote for my car insurance which ended up being through Aviva about 2 years ago and I had such positive experiences with them until recently. Aviva recently charged me a baffling amount to change my address even though I moved within the same city and only a 7-minute drive away from where I previously lived. I have been given no clarification as to what or why the amount has been charged to me. There are plenty of insurance companies around and plenty of insurance brokers. I'm not sure why Aviva has choosen to slap these fees onto people without any explanation. Upon renewal of my insurance, Sharp insurance and Aviva insurance will not be getting my business in the future. I will be sure to share these most recent experiences with friends and family and anyone else who is willing to listen.

I recently switched to Aviva insurance when it was advertised positively through Costco/Inova. I made the mistake of assuming that because Aviva Insurance was associated with Costco that the value would be strong. My expensive bicycle was stolen from my condo building two weeks ago. Since then, I have tried contacting Aviva and Inova four times via the phone and email. Finally after being past around on hold for over two hours after speaking with Alex, Precious, Julia, and one other agent, I was told that personal items are only covered up to $1000. Convenient for the insurance company, my deductible is $1000 and so there is nothing that can be done. I was told that I should cover my bicycles and golf clubs and items of that nature separately. Be careful and avoid selecting this company as your property insurance provider. I will be promptly leaving this company and selecting a new insurance provider.

This scammy company should just shut down! It has done a disservice to everyone and anyone who has ever had any contact with it. It treats its customers and non-customers so unprofessionally and its a huge money grab. My car was rear-ended by a driver insured from this company in DECEMBER 2018. Our vehicle was assessed and damages were quoted and we have been recieving physiotherapy due to the injuries from the collision for the past 4 months and STILL have not heard back from them. Everytime we call, they connect you to a different line to talk to another representative and so on. I am surprised there hasn't been a class lawsuit filed against this company as most of their reviews on here are very negaive and similar experiences. This bogus company and its dealings should be covered by a local news network so more innocent people don't get fooled by them and lose their money!

  • Linda Brown

I had my car broken into last March right after I switched to Aviva. I was also happy with my previous company, The Personal, however they couldn’t match the great rates & coverage I received from Aviva. The Aviva agents handled my claim quickly and efficiently. I also want to add that when I was shopping for a new insurance company I was sooooo surprised to see most all have 2 or 2 1/2 stars at most. Wow! I chose Aviva because friends and family have had good experiences along with it being the company Atco uses for it’s employees. I also noticed that many people make time to review insurance companies when they are really upset 1. something bad already happened and then 2. if the insurance company also makes a mistake we become extremely frustrated and write about it. (and for good reason too!) However, I thought to write a happy review to offset the unhappy ones. : )

  • Nasri Aboudaher

Unbelievable. I started with Aviva last year with the most basic insurance and set up auto-pay. In September I was gone to Europe to get married and there was an issue processing my payment. A few days later they tried taking payment again but was declined. This apparently deems cancellation for non-payment, even after I offered to pay off the remainder of my year. I notified Aviva I would be gone in September but instead of calling me or emailing me, they sent a letter for cancellation that was not received until I came back from Europe. Don't deal with this company unless you want headaches. Now after a 100% perfectly clean driving and insurance record, no one will insure me without paying off the full year. Thanks for screwing over a family with 1 vehicle, an 8 month old and second on the way. Hopefully I get a reply if this company is somewhat decent enough.

  • Chrystal Rawn

I was involved in a 100% not at fault claim on December 19, 2017. Their insured ran a red light and made a left turn right in front of me causing me to T-Bone him. I had to chase them down to get a rental car as I live outside of Calgary, and needed a vehicle in the meantime of my claim. They said that my vehicle is a total loss, took the rental car back without settling my claim. I now have no way to and from work at my new job DT. They offered me peanuts for the settlement and will not budge on the amount. I can't afford to get a replacement car with the amount they offered. Worst insurance company to deal with and I will be sure to tell as many people about this as possible. My representative Connie, has no compassion or care about my situation. Thinking I will need to hire a lawyer. I would have given them 0 stars if I could have.

  • fellover11

They are the biggest scam ever. Raised rates by 27% this year. I was told this was because there were more claims. I however have never put a claim in and have been with them for ten years. The also removed the combined discount and could not provide an explanation except that everyone was doing it. That was the term I heard a lot. Then you would think with all the extra money I paying you would get something for it right? Wrong!!! Premiums have gone up 150% on all claims dealing with roof or siding or general house related. This was the reason the rates were going up in the first place was because there were so many of these claims. Some one needs a reality check. Aviva posted a 4.7 billion operation profit in 2017, are they really concerned with doing their job to the best of their ability. Look elsewhere!!

  • stephan degrace

I really do not recommend this insurance company we got hail damage on our trailer we faut with them for 13 months to get paid they send there appraiser they estimates the damage at 5800$ we when to 3 certified RV dealer ship they all estimated the damage between 16,000$ to 21,000$ damage after presenting all our quote to aviva they refused paying and only agree to 5800$ we tried as much as we could even call laser nothing to do so we had to pay almost 15,000$ out of our pocket. Everyone else in the Neigbor hood had a different insurance company and there roof was cover even my next door neighbor that was park 10 meter away from my RV plus we had the biggest coverage and paid total premium absolutely stay away from this company or expect to pay the damage out of your own pocket

  • Megan Wadstein

If I could give zero stars I would. This is probably the most inept insurance company we've ever dealt with, and we've dealt with several. Just got a notice saying our trailer insurance is cancelled - despite my husband's MANY attempts to get our account issues resolved (issues that were caused by our bank after writing off a quad, that was also insured on the same account). For the last 2 months, my husband has been given the runaround - no one is able to answer his questions or do their jobs it seems. They have failed to communicate any issues to us within a reasonable timeframe. Their customer service is atrocious. At this point, a potato could do their jobs better than these so called 'employees' can. I would highly recommend avoiding this company at all costs.

  • Casual Tim

Was in not my fault accident, where the guy was without drivers license with accident recorded before with their fault, hit me from back changing the line and highly speeding. Whenever they got both statements they accepted the other party statement saying we hit him being in forward him, it’s even sounds weird. The funniest thing they had video how police arrested the guy who hit me, all photos of damage and even with this scratch on his side on whole car, they accepted that I hit him in passenger side which I funny too. Never deal with those guys, they don’t care if you’re in fault, they just waiting a half year just to say you were in fault whatever is statement is. They think you can be drunk, high or without drivers license and still be not in fault.

  • Abby Normal

After 26 yrs with this insurance company, not a single claim on our part - loss of good chunk of family income made us skip couple of payments for everything, house mortgage, personal loan, etc and guess what - we got cut off. Spoke to someone who said it's ok to continue if we pay for the whole year ahead - and we accepted that term. Came home to finish the deal by giving my credit card info but someone else answered the phone second time. That character was so rude and unprofessional, and on top of everything refused to follow through the earlier deal. I have managed to make two of my friends leave that insurance for another one. Nothing personal, I told them about better deal.

  • HARISH DUGGAL

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I HAVE EVER SEEN. I'm trying to contact Aviva for claim number#34725946 from 3 months and getting no response. First of all company using very poor VOIP phone service that it disconnect every few second and no one called back and you have to callback service desk again, go through waiting list. Andrea Mason is my claim adjuster who is more busy than our Prime Minister. I called her 100 times, left voicemails and even email her few times but got no response even a single time. I'm going to contact social service team to help me deal with these thieves. I don't know how they running company in Canada where customer service should be there first priority.

  • Shannon Coffin

I had severe issues arise with cold weather and pipes that cracked. I had to fight from day one and continued to fight for the insurance I have paid faithfully since 2007. They tried continuously to deny my claim, to the point I had eviction notices given to me. My health was put in jeopardy for 7 months and now I have to be in therapy for the emotional and mental damage I have sustained. I suffered heart failure already and it was made even worse. I was then denied renewal of my policy as it is too great of a risk. They are evil and don't care who or how they hurt you. Please for the love of all that is good...DO NOT USE AVIVA!!!

  • Devan Frigault

Waited on the phone for 10 minutes just for them to tell me that my monthly bill would be going up 50 dollars for a total of 150 just for liability insurance. I went to see another company and they told me that was bull and quoted me 77 a month instead. Go to cancel with aviva, wait on the phone for another 10 minutes for them to say they're charging me a 100 cancellation fee even though my contract just renewed again 5 days ago. My new insurance said I should never have to pay that so close to my renewal date and were equally as pissed. Happy to see so many bad reviews these guys are garbage and just want your money

  • Stacy Mercer

I didn’t realize I needed to take a half day off work just to update my insurance. Going on 3 hours on the phone now…1.5 hours on hold and 1.5 hours on the call for a simple home insurance move to a new address. Who has a spare 3 hours of time to deal with insurance? Ever wonder why hold times are so long when it take an hour and a half to manage a simple move? Not to mention, in the process, my car insurance has raised and I’m being charged an additional $40 a month for the remaining 5 months of home insurance…that makes sense. Would give this negative stars if possible. Absolutely brutal customer experience.

The first adjuster I worked with was so rude to the reception team at my phsyio's that he actually reduced one of the receptionists to tears. The receptionist at my dentist also independtly complained about him being incredibly rude and had accussed the dentist of doing her job incorrectly. After being removed from my file the next adjuster has been trying to kick me off treatment. The doctor they hired for an 'independent exam' has said my treatment should continue - and yet I am still getting resistance every single step of the way from the insurance adjuster. If possible I would give 0 or negative stars.

  • Eric Harrison

I'd rate them a zero if I could. Same story with me as many other reviewers. Good customer & fully paid up, yet at renewal time they sent a complete insurance application as if I was a new customer. I missed filling in one box on the application, and they used that to refuse to renew me. Learned that they are doing this to most of their Alberta clients because they do not wish to insure people in this province. They are sure making it clear that is their goal. No explanations, no apologies, and note there are no replies from anyone in the company to the smorgasbord of very negative Google reviews. Pathetic.

  • Shirley Avon

I had hail damage. At first I was alarmed because based on the estimate my car was a write-off and I got an email saying to remove all personal belongings and that they were going to tow the car away. Then I got the first offer which was ridiculously low. However Aviva did listen and respond to all information I submitted as to the value and condiiton of my vehicle. I wanted to keep my vehicle as the damage was body damage and not mechanical to which they agreed, and the final settlement was fair. They sent the payment out quickly. And I was glad that dealing with the adjusters at Aviva was very pleasant.

  • Chris Snider

This insurance company has to be the worst insurance company to deal with. I've been waiting on Aviva to put together subrogation papers for Sedgwick since last May. Sedgwick is waiting to pay the damages back to Aviva and also my deductible back. It must be nice to be able to wait 7 months to be paid for something. I wish I had the funds to be able to wait for someone to pay me for 7+ months. Oh and by the way. It's taken 2 different adjusters and 7 months to tell me that they don't even have the correct documentation in order. This company doesn't care about you! Move on to the next insurance company.

  • Celina Faria

I have never experienced such incompetency in all the years I have had insurance. Waiting over 4 weeks for injury claim to be opened. My agent Tarra McKinnon and her supervisor Sarah Pereira have been absolutely useless in getting my accident claim resolved and at this point feel like I may just lose my mind dealing with these two. I’ll have to move this up a level and maybe I can get this resolved (I’m not hopefully). If you have a choice please please consider another insurance company - Aviva is in my opinion the worst insurance company out there. All the bad reviews of Aviva can't be wrong!

  • t y

Stay away from Aviva Calgary auto insurance!!! Even after telling them that I am moving to the states and I am not going to renew my auto insurance policy as the renewal date was approaching, they still renewed my policy without getting my approval. They even charged my bank account the new increased rate which I didn't approve. The audacity!!! I am shocked ! Bunch of crooks! Imagine my situation! You are in the states having insurance with an American insurance company and you find out that your previous Canadian insurance company keeps renewing your policy without your permission. Tamer

  • Matthew Chapman

I really wish there was 0 out of 5 stars because that's the way aviva treats you, they over charge on the insurance. As well I had commercial insurance with them and I sent cancellation, two months later got registered mail that I owed a reimitance of $328 after I had made the choice to switch insurance companies to a more reliable company that actually cares about me and not just my money. I also have a classic car and instead of sending me renewal they sent me a automatic cancellation in registered mail after the year term. Would stay far far away from them nothing but crooks.

  • Matt Derochie

I had been a loyal customer for over 15 years. They informed me this year that in order to be renewed by them I would have to re submit an application and if my application was approved they would no longer take monthly payments (I have never missed a payment in 15 years) and I would have to pay my premium up front. So I went out and got some quotes from other insurance companies and they were all substantially lower than the premium I was paying at Aviva. I feel ripped off and disrespected by Aviva so never again will I go to them for my insurance needs.

  • Sheena Jarvis

I'd give zero stars if I could. After years of being insured with Aviva and faithfully paying every month, they have now (so I'm told) created a 'new way of doing things' whereby younger drivers such as my son are required to fill out a form to apply for insurance (insurance he's had with them for over 5 years) and pay the whole year up front if approved. He's been insured with Aviva for over 5 years with no claims, not even a parking ticket. Instead of rewarding good drivers, they are persecuting them for being under 25. Steer clear of these crooks.

  • James McGregor

To call your customer service incompetent would be a disservice to incompetent people. How can you possibly run a company as big as yours so poorly ? You wait God knows how long to speak to someone, and then you get some person who is not at all listening or interested and seems to be reading off a script. It's really not that difficult to have good customer service in this day and age. I cancelled my policy because of an interaction with one of your reps. Your poor customer service is going to cost you a lot of money. Maybe try and improve on that.

  • Tessa Stubbington

Difficult to speak to anyone and get a correct answer with rationale or where I may find that written In my policy . We paid for the auto insurance in full ( at their request ) and now I am selling said vehicle . I’m told I will not get any refund even though there are ten months remaining on the policy , and I was looking to insure my new vehicle through aviva as well . How does this make sense aviva ? I would love to speak to someone directly instead of trying and waiting for call backs . Please call me back . Please run away customers

  • usha verma

We got accident in June 2021.That was four cars collusion .Our car was 3rd from the back. Very last car hit the car behind us, car behind us hit our car and our car was pushed to hit the car in front of us..Last car driver came out saying sorry it’s my fault. Aviva kept deductible saying investigation is being done to check who was at fault..After eight months they emailed saying it’s totally our fault…I don’t understand how they concluded this because our car was third from the back in four cars hitting each other..worst insurance

  • Taylor Hemmings

Terrible company. I feel that they're purposefully stalling my application renewal. They said a 2-4 week turn around for my review. It's been two weeks, so I called and they said I need to resend the info again because they can't open one of the 5 documents. I don't understand. They have all of my information still, nothing has changed. Meanwhile I'm renting a vehicle on a weekly basis waiting for this to come through. It shouldn't take 4 weeks. They have all of my info, and it's the digital age. If I could give negative stars, I would.

  • Steve P

After 11 years of taking my money, Aviva decides to just cancel my policy with out any communication because of 1 missed pre-authorized payment on my credit card. I was completely unaware until I received a registered letter regarding the cancellation. There’s was no overdue balance even owing. Called them to say I can arrange payment right away, and they said policy is already cancelled and I need to re-qualify and no monthly payments for 3 years. I went with another company. This was the worst customer service I’ve ever experienced.

  • Ines Topic

Wish I could give no stars but here we are rating them at 1 but they don’t even deserve the one! I’ve been trying to get ahold of someone since February 2023 but no calls me back or responds to my emails! They sure are good at taking our money for coverage but never good at get back to their customers! Pathetic of a company I would steer away from them! They have asked for witness statements which were provided to them months ago! But now they’re just ghosting and ignoring me at all costs! Super pathetic and embarrassing of a company!

  • Kathryn P

Definitely not going to renew my insurance with them. I had to file a claim due to theft and the adjustor is playing phone tag every day. He would call me a few minutes before or after his work day ended and left me a voicemail. I tried calling back even when I called him right back, no answer. I tried calling during the day, in the morning, in the afternoon, no answer. I left a message every time and he would wait until it's within 5 mins of the end of his work day to call me back to leave me a voicemail. Disgustingly unprofessional.

  • Kamil Allami

The worst service ever I had, I can’t reach them on the phone ! They charged me for my Uber vehicle while it was at a body shop due to an accident last June , 2021 , so I called the broker and emailed them many times to stop its insurance . I’ve never used it since the accident but they continue taking monthly payments from my account ! The broker can’t solve my problem , I called Aviva insurance company many times but got a message says (( call your broker )) !!!!! They must have customers service to answer the people .calls .

  • Mia Castro

If I could give them a lower rating I would. I have been insured by Aviva for 2 years and ever since their policy changed, I had troubles getting my policy renewed. I've sent my application 3 times already. And they keep getting rejected because I apparently keep missing information. And their application review time takes no less than 2 weeks! Two of my applications took over a month! I was not able to drive since I didn't have my car insured for 2 months. Now I know that I certainly need to find a BETTER insurance company.

  • Amy Cudmore

Gave us 6 weeks’ notice that we needed to ‘re-apply’ for insurance (for our 3 vehicles) or our coverage would expire on the noted date, and if they DID decide to accept our application, we would have to pay upfront for the full year. And this was after many, many years with them, and fully reliable payments for those years. Then they kept not receiving my ‘re-application’ forms. So we paid them, at minimum, $15,000 that they got to keep in their pockets. And I'm sure it's worse for many other people. Thanks for nothing.

  • Steve Silliker

Why can't I give a negative star? This is by far the worst Insurance company out there. They treat you like you're nothing, even after you pay them for 6 years with no claims. When the claim finally comes, they make you jump through hoops for 8 months just to get what is rightfully yours. Then you will have to go get a Lawyer to deal with them because of how awful they treat you. Terribly unorganized, and unprofessional. There are tons of insurance companies out there - Make sure Aviva is not on your list of options.

  • Katherine Zakariasen

Id give them a zero if it was possible. Was assigned the most incapable claims adjuster, Hilary Buckberrough. Couldn’t even acknowledge the first estimate was missing an Amount to have the floor in my holiday trailer repaired. Now it’s been 3 months of trying to get ahold of her and her even more useless manager, Blair Mcgreggor. Neither will return a phone call or email. I pay over $500/month in insurance, you’d think they’d be willing to cover the policies I have. Will definitely be changing insurance companies.

  • David Holt

I am certainly not surprised to see this company with such a low raiting. I was in a non-fault car accident over a month ago that I have not been able to resolve. Over the last 10 days I have called my claims "representative" several times a day looking for an update and he has not answered his phone, called me back or replied to emails. I have spent over an hour on hold waiting to talk to anyone at all and not gotten a single person. If I could rate 0 stars I would. Do not do waist your time with this company.

  • John Mollo

My advice to anyone would be not to go on a full coverage or premium plan with this company. And if you do READ THE TERMS ON YOUR CONTRACT! They will mess up your life. I paid premium for my insurance, got into an accident, they wrote off my vehicle, covered me on a rental for 1 week and just messed up everything for me. I didn't have a vehicle so lost my job and my life has been nothing but downhill from there. Never again will I go with Aviva insurance for anything. I do not recommend this company at all!

  • Laura Schmaus

Don't get scammed by the "low" rates. I've filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. HORRIBLE! I wish I could give negative stars. My jeep was broken into and the steering column was trashed. Its been two weeks and my Jeep hasn't been worked on yet. It's impossible to get a hold of my Insurance adjuster and there is no communication. I've had to call the mechanic everyday to get updates because my Adjuster won't call or email me back. I will NEVER go with this insurance company again.

  • adriana camayo

Terrible customer service, terrible company, its been 3 weeks since i made my auto claim and still nothing has been resolved, took time off work to deal with this and nothing that was talked about has been done properly or at all, i was connected with an agent who by 11am no longer answers emails until the next day if at all. i do not have the ability and or freedom to not go to work or spend hours on the phone at work in order to deal with this. very disappointing, save yourselves the hassle

  • namrata bohre

I don’t even want to rate them one star , dealing with them since 4 months , they don’t reply to calls and don’t even bother to reply to email,They left my pantry broken and flooring in kitchen is partly removed & left as it is,since 4 months. We keep tripping due to uneven flooring but who cares they are happy they don’t care what others are going through, the option to reach out Mr gurpartap aujal was this review i am not looking for your pleasing words , i really need a quick action.

  • Charlene Soares

Worst insurance company. Increases rates without telling us. We have to call to ask and in return get a voicemail reply saying rates have gone up. No other insurance providers rates have gone up.. they should go down as vehicle tickets dissappear off record every three years. Service "policies" are a joke. They don't even sound like real policies. Just something customer service makes up to avoid conversations. Search around because I guarentee you will find a better insurance provider.

  • Ashleigh Boyd

I've been with Aviva for 2 years and I will never renew with them again nor will I recommend to anyone. A rebate was given during covid for 3 months, although I only had cheaper insurance for one month. Now the rebate has stopped, my insurance has gone up $40 (it's already very high as it is), this rebate was done automatically by Aviva without contact. Had I had known my insurance would go up after it stopped I would have never agreed to it. Do not get insured by these people.

  • Lora A.

Aviva is the worst auto insurance I had to deal with. Very bad customer service. Their insurance adjusters are rude and don't provide due care, don't follow on their promised actions and then simply lie about it. Stay away from Aviva, don't get tempted by Aviva's a bit lower premuim, then other companies offer- you would get punished later by a very bad customer service, unpaid rental reimbursement expenses and a below market value for your vehicle, if a claim is made.

  • Andrew L

Don't go with this company! No response from adjusters for weeks! Recently asked Action Furnace to installed new water tank but due to manufacture defects on the tank, water leaked and molds forming all over the basement floors and walls. Zero fault from homeowner, but Aviva delaying responses and actions causing more mold formation and tenant (who has kids) reports being sick! This is URGENT health issue and no one seems to care from Aviva

  • Maninder Singh

!!!Attention they will Harass you!!! This insurance company is not one that I would suggest to anyone at all. Yes, they are low-cost, They will supply you with poor customer service. If you trying to contact the Manger he’s the same. No one will help you when you are stuck in claim. Anyone who is reading this review Don't go with insurance companies; I can supply you with profF. I have all the proof and yes I am taking them to court.

  • Sean Thurbide

I have been with Aviva for more than 20 years - we have a fleet of 8 company vehicles. I was side swiped by another vehicle in march and a line for my air conditioning was cracked. Aviva says it’s unrelated to the accident and will not cover it. Horrible way to end a business relationship when my own insurance company doesn’t even stand up for their own customer in an accident that was not my fault. We will be moving elsewhere.

  • Elias Ade

Worst company ever. Had over 10 years of clean driving. Got into one accident last year and the claim was a nightmare. These guys can't even get their paper work done correctly, the process took months and they wouldent even give me the option to buy my car back. Then a year later got dropped by Aviva when it came time for renewal and now I pay through the roof through other companies. Avoid these guys if you can.

  • chris chan

Rates are good, worst customer service ever. Submitted a claim and was forgotten for a week. Was told they would call me back in 3 days, had to chase them down to get an answer. Every time they say they will call me back next day or within 2 hrs, it never happens. It seems they don't call back after leaving voice-mail and emails either. I just wanted to know that my claim was taken care of. Glad it's over with.

  • Greg Johansen

I have been a class 1 driver for 40 yrs with an absolutely excellent record...and this company would not insure me for a company I wanted to work for. I gave abstract and letter from previous company and they still didn't. I've never had any problems getting approved by any company before. This is the absolute worst company I've ever dealt with and will not be shy to express my thoughts to anyone that asks

  • Josh Whiteley

Despite the fact I cancelled my own insurance and paid in full these guys screwed with me and put “cancelled for non payment” on my record. Since then I of course have had someone send me a letter stating that I did cancel my own insurance from them. I could rant on and on about the other BS that these guys did but you can find out for yourself if you choose to use them. STRONGLY RECOMEND NOT USING AVIVA

  • Melissa

Was a little anxious when I had to make my first claim with Aviva due to all the negative reviews however, I have nothing but great things to say! My claims advisor was Michele and she was awesome!! Got my car in and out of the repair shop with no problems! Everything was done in a timely matter. Michele was also quick to respond back with any questions I had! She really made the experience 10/10.

  • BitVyper

They requested updated information this year, so I phoned them and went through the paperwork on the phone to make sure it was correct before scanning and emailing it to them. Then they cancelled my auto insurance without notifying me, and when I found out after weeks of driving uninsured, they informed me that I would have to reapply and take on a new, higher premium to be paid upfront

  • Stephen Baxter

I've been waiting over three weeks for them to start my auto claim. They called me once and left a voice mail. I've tried numerous times to call them, the adjuster and the main claims number never answer the phone. They are terrible to deal with. Also, their phone hold music/message repeats every 50 seconds, it is its own little torture when waiting on the line to talk to someone.

  • Jody Denis

Had a policy for contents, loss of use and liability coverage for a condo. Had a roof leak that they would not insure nor would they cover the loss of use which they stated they had. Ended up costing me over $25k. Never use this company as they even had the nerve to charge $83 to cancel the useless package. Would have been better to have no insurance at all than these crooks.

  • Paula Jarnec

I've been with Aviva for 7 years. I finally decided to switch to a different company which ended up saving me over $40 a month. Aviva does not reward loyalty, in fact the entire time I've been with them I've had a clean record so I'm not sure how my rate keeps increasing? Also I'm over 25 so I thought that would lower my premium rather than raise it. Happy I left

  • Marielle Villarama

I would give zero stars but one is the least I can give. They charged me double the amount I pay for because there’s a glitch that they can’t explain. They won’t give me a refund because IT and Billing are investigating and they might take a month to fix it. However, they said if I cancel my insurance today, I get a refund in 3 business days.

  • Donovan Weiss

Just like many of these other reviews I also received the letter asking for me to reapply and if approved I would have to pay the entire premium upfront. Without even shopping around I called Aviva instantly and cancelled all of my policies and luckily enough after signing on with Johnson I actually saved money. Thank you Aviva.

  • Lina Jamison

New claims adjuster (and appraisal staff) was able to work on my reimbursement for two short months, after replacing the former adjuster who didn't act on my claims for four months despite my dash cam video that showed the other party being at fault for the damage to my car. Thank you, Sarah and Jan for the job well done.

  • Lisa Exton

I accidentally paid them $300.62 through online banking when it was meant to go to Avion Visa. My bank has sent them several requests over the last month to return the money with no response. One would wonder about a company that operates like this wouldn’t trust them at all!!! I didn’t even want to give them 1 star!

  • roland Lamoureux

Currently going through a home insurance claim and have been attempting to contact Aviva for a month to try and resolve some issues and have not had anyone contact me back. Got my insurance renewal notice and my premium was increased by 50%. Will most likely be going somewhere else in the future.

  • Jon Foo

Been with them for 7 years. They sent us a strongly worded letter saying that we had to fill out an application and that they would no longer offer installment plans. Never missed a payment. Clean drivers. No claims. Don't bother renewing. We'll take our business elsewhere. Stay away from Aviva

  • Jatinder

I was involved in an MVA with an Aviva Insurance client. My insurance company has been trying to contact Aviva for the past three weeks and no response. Must be nice to collect premiums from clients and not return calls when a claim is made against your own policy.

  • Matthew Kenna

Horrible experience, after being a customer that fought against me when my truck was smoked while parked in front of my house. Drunk Driver. I am now suing and they hired a lawyer to defend a drunk driver? One drunk driver took our 2 of our trucks at 6:30 AM

  • Marilyn

Two years and insurance claim still not completed. 7 adjusters assigned to claim and still no support or help. Escalation process provided on their website doesn't work - Manager involved provided lip service and did nothing. Would definitely not recommend.

  • Darryl Chobotiuk

2 days short of a Month for an uncomplicated $1700 repair in Calgary. Check your insurance provider to see if Aviva underwrites your claims. I bought a policy from a reputable insurer only to find out, the hard way, that Aviva processes their claims.

  • Sarah Jawad

My trailer has been at the repair shop for over a month now. Im just waiting for someone to go out and get an estimate. I've called many times and left messages but no one ever calls me back. This is the worse insurance company I've ever dealt with.

Most unloyal, inconsiderate company ever! If I could rate this company 0 stars, then I would! I will never ever do business with this insurance company again because they changed their policies last minute and lost most of their customers!

  • Meena Manhas

I got stuck dealing with Aviva due to a not at fault claim. The adjuster Macey Van Seggelen takes more then 2 weeks to respond to an email! And ignores half the questions! Waste of time! This is a out of Minor injury Cap claim - she tried

Trying to get through to RBC Aviva Insurance. Buying a new vehicle. Won't take my account number to sign in online, and they want me to wait 2 to 4 hours to talk to a human. Been with them over 20 years and will be canceling my account.

  • C GB

I've only had positive experiences with Aviva. I've put in 2 claims, both were dealt with promptly and professionally. Josh was my most recent adjuster and he was great. He set up my claim with me on the phone, and I've had no issues.

Bunch of CROOKS and useless help. Been trying to get a deductible refund for 2 years now. I do not pay insurance to the person who hit my car, I PAY AVIVA. EXTREMELY disappointed with this trash company.

Pay attention to policy , if you deal with a broker let them explain to you the big ticket items at least, there are some policies that has hidden meanings!

Been with Aviva for years. Always got good service. When agent wasn’t available there was always someone else to help me out. Thanks Aviva.
