"Following my mother’s death her final wishes were that she be cremated and her ashes to be scattered where my father’s ashes were scattered This wish was fulfilled by our family but her other wish being her name to be placed in the memory book which is a book that you can place your loved ones names in on the day of death which in our case was 29th of August 2004 When the first anniversary of our mothers death as a family we joined together to celebrate her life but when we went to the cemetery to place flowers on the memory book the 29th of August was not there The management of the cemetery took our money as quickly as they could being $360 and they would have had 11 months to get the page completed but no they didn’t careless This company being Fawkner memorial park did finally do the page the following year But they stole my right to celebrate my mother and they stole my family’s right and worst of all they stole my mothers wishes I have nothing good to say about this organisation very very disappointed"

This is one of my favourite places to walk, think, and just get away from the hustle and bustle of Fawkner station. Aside from the graves, and all the crying, and the crushing weight of knowing that everyone I care about will one day cease to exist, and that all our material possessions are so irrelevant that only when we're about to draw our last breath will we understand how comically wasteful our lives have been, leaving us frozen forever in a stupid grin, other than those things, it's a really nice place. But you kind of get that anywhere. In the evenings you'll see adorable rabbits scurrying around digging their way under the graves of long forgotten souls to breed relentlessly like oversexed... rabbits, I guess. Aw. How cute. Well done Fawkner cemetery. I get the feeling I'll be spending quite a bit of time here in the future.
This is a beautiful place and of course the Mausoleums and Chapels are just magnificent monuments to the deceased members of our community. Of course it's unfortunate that the lower sections are subject to flooding, hence the grave tombstones are not really always level and rather unsightly. The Cemetery Trust do their best to put grave along the walk ways amongst these water logged grave sights. I always thing that it's such a shame that a lot of these monuments are no being re leveled.Perhaps people doing court ordered community services could be harnessed to do this type of work under supervision? Perhaps doing this work might trigger a positive response to the crime offenders, that their time is short and to make a positive turn around to good honest living in their life choices.
Beautiful cemetery and good local office staff but centralised office and call centre is so disorganised and frustrating to deal with. Different answer each time you call and terrible wait times to get through on the phone. Call centre cant even get through to the cemetery so they guess the answers. Our entire family moved interstate and tried to organise my grandparents ashes to be transferred to another cemetery to be laid with their recently passed daughter in QLD. Constant delays, large fees, masses of paperwork later and flat out refusal to help organise any sort of transport. Had to fly down from QLD to pickup ashes ourselves from Melbourne. Then on the day we couldn't get through on the phone to organise it. Fawkner should be their own entity and get rid of the GMCT office.
Huge cemetary with some very beautiful areas to enjoy peace and tranquility. Some areas still need a fair bit of work to bring them up to the standard of the other beautifully maintained spots in the cemetary but on balance, visually, this is a good cemetary. Cafe staff are friendly, and it's good to see the cafe area has had a makeover and now also has an undecover outdoor space. The lawns and trees near the cafe are simply delightful on a sunny day - but more bench seating in this area would be an improvement. Unsure if there is anyone doing history walks through this cemetary, but if not, this would be a marvellous place to do this (respectfully and discretely). The history of this cemetary is fascinating and there are many significant historic people buried here.
Beautiful cemetery for ones final resting place. Very well maintained and looked after. Can be difficult to navigate and find your way around, even with maps and/or directions from staff if you dont initially know where you are going. I noticed several plaques that are usually along a footpath to identify locations were missing in the Flinders area, meaning we had to note the very small numbers on the name plate or the name itself, after much searching and only after maintenance workers happened to pass by. More specific and detailed signage wouldnt go astray. Parking can be a challenge depending on where your loved one is situated but it can be overcome.
We recentely had my brothers funeral service in the Joyce Chapel at Fawkner. While thegeneral standard and apperance of the chaoel was fine condition of the carpet was disgusting, particularly around the alter where the immediate family are seated and interact with the deceased during the service. I know it is subject to spills, traffic ect but this was simply dirty, stained and very off putting. I hope I do not have to farewell another family member but if I do it will not be here, sorry. Additionally the tea rooms where refreshments were taken are requiring maintence. Refreshments and service fine. Regards Mark
Very heartless, extremely rude and became aggressive because of a problem that they caused for me. Gave me the run around for weeks that was not necessary due to what I thought was of there own lack of knowledge to a situation that they should have already known about. Found out later that they did know how to solve the situation but lied instead because they didn't care and just wanted me to leave them a loan. So they just gave me the run around instead thinking that I would give up in the end! DISGUSTED and was SHOCKED that they really could treat people like that!
I attended my friend's funeral today. Unable to find the burial location, I came across the very friendly staff of Fawkner Cemetery and asked them to direct me to the right place. They were so kind that they took me to the right place (I was on the other side of the cemetery). I thank them for their great help, if they hadn't helped me I would have been late for the funeral. Well done guys. Thank you.
I never thought I would have the reason to review a cemetery, but in this case, it deserves it. I am currently dealing with 5 cemeteries to upgrade my ancestors' graves. Fawkner Cemetery staff are the nicest, most easy to deal with of all the cemeteries and staff that I have encountered. All, followed up and helped me to achieve my objectives. Congratulations, Fawkner staff, you have my GOLD METAL.
Well laid our place and easy to get around. There are lot of roses which make the cemetery nice and elegant to walk through. The first burial took place in the late eighteen hundreds. This place has a train statiom at the front and the cafe is well priced and a good selection of light snacks. Near by the cafe is a carriage that transported passed on people to the cemetery until the 50s.
Came here today, what use to be beautiful resting place is now a disappointment. New lawn A zone 6. The lawn has not been mowed, concrete graves are smashes, not much maintenance on this part, but when you look across where the rose bushes are, it’s pristine and maintained. How it it certain parts are cared for when others are looking drab? Not happy. Hope to see this part looking nice.
I was here yesterday and noticed what appears to be VANDALISM to someone's lovely plants that they're growing in memory of a LOVED ONE.IT WASN'T THE ONLY GRAVE SITE THAT HAD PLANTS DESTROYED.. THE PERSON THAT DAMAGED THESE HAS NO RESPECT FOR THEMSELVES..I HOPE THAT THEY GETS BETTER AND START TO ENJOY THEIR LIFE...YOU POOR SAD THING ..HELP IS OUT THERE.. GOD IS ALWAYS THERE FOR YOU..
I am most disappointed at your new website. I have had reason to look for graves before and thought it was made so easy and it actually showed a photo of said grave. Now it is very difficult to navigate and really shows nothing. I used to find that yours was the easiest and best to find information from, but am now disappointed to find that it puts me on to Ancestry etc. Maureen
The gardens are well kept, however when attending a funeral last week we were advised to follow the yellow line. All good until the yellow line was not visible. Unfortunately, that was frustrating as we were upset that we would miss out on the funeral service. Please repaint the coloured lines to make it easy for all especially in distress times. Thank you.
The receptionist was incredibly rude and unhelpful. We were given incorrect information over the phone about a fee and no apology was made when the fee was actually 6 times the amount of the original quote. Staff there seem to have no understanding of how to handle these sensitive issues.
Will you dumb bogans stop using Google reviews to bash the website? That's not what you're supposed to be reviewing. More to the point. The cemetery is tidy and clean. Parking is readily available and the bathrooms are clean. There's nothing more you'd want from a cemetery.
Having recently started working in the area I’m finding the chapel and ground staff absolutely wonderful. Always helpful and accommodating. I truly love working at your chapels. Thank you for help on the stressful days Karen xx GGF
Trying to have my Nan buried with her sister. The hoops this place is making the family go through is unbelievable and disgusting. No compassion and only have money on their mind. Do not go through this mob if you don't have to.
My daughter is buried in this beautiful cemetery. I love visiting here. It is very calming and unique compared to other cemeteries I've visited. It really is lovely and a credit to those who keep it so well maintained.
Absolutely disgraceful service. No care, no respect and no understanding. Complete lack of negotiations or ability for anything related to grieving families. I wish I could give a negative 5 star.
Recently, customer service shown at the gatehouse and organisation is terrible. People don’t know what’s going on. There was a very high standard shown up until March, but what’s happened since?
Unfortunately the air con wasn’t working for our Mum’s funeral. Then we have the issue that I cannot contact them directly. Otherwise the Fawkner Cemetery is lovely and very well maintained
A well run & maintained cemetery, Maps available at points around the grounds. Their website is excellent for locating loved one's, with detailed site plans making it very easy.
I have my great-grandparents, great-great-grandmother and several other relatives buried here. Big cemetery filled with history, well maintained with a cafe and florist.
Will happily make you wait an hour to see the ashes of a deceased love one just so they can communicate with elderly people how they're going to make 200k out of them
Great place very sad though. It is surrounded by beautiful nature. I would recommend burying a loved one in the new section as it is less crowded as the older areas.
Beautiful, peaceful well maintained Park with lots of space and large native trees, It definitely doesn't feel like you're in thr suburbs when you walk through
I went to this resting place all the way from Berwick a few times, starting in 2017. I had been interest in the history of Capt Milner and son buried there.
Catering was abysmal. You should be ashamed at what you charge. Hardly anything fir guests to eat despite the hefty cost
A very sad place but we will all end up here. It's clean and well maintained. The staff are friendly and helpful.
My dad was buried here and We are very happy with service from everyone. Thankyou. RIP beautiful dad …
The idea that we had to show up today to a desecrated and vandalized memorial is disgusting. Do better.
Beautiful service and very professional. Barbara Kay was a fantastic celebrant for both mum and dad.
lovely grounds, kept tripping over random rocks in the ground though, ruined the experience
