"reverse oasis - a squared-out section of arid desolation amongst busy suburban life"
"Interesting place with lots of history! Unfortunately some of it looks a bit poorly kept so that’s sad"
"My first visit since Covid"
"Beautiful historic cemetery, unfortunately too many dog owners are letting their dogs run through off lead, plaques in the garden area being wrecked and lost due to dogs running onto them"
"Looks abandoned"
reverse oasis - a squared-out section of arid desolation amongst busy suburban life. Themes of rusted iron, desiccated husks, and weather-worn ghostly grey stone. Green life is scarcely to be seen here, other than a smattering of lurching trees - sentinels of a forgotten era biting up through the stony lifelessness. Flanked from both ends by busy streets, the din of indifference only further accentuates the forlorn barrenness. Here is no decay, for life has long since drained.
Interesting place with lots of history! Unfortunately some of it looks a bit poorly kept so that’s sad. Hope they keep the history alive for years to come. Went to see FJ Rose’s grave (a figurehead for Deaf history in Melbourne) and it’s quite surreal to be there! There’s also some very expensive, grand looking sculptures and gravestones there. Overall a nice graveyard for sure!
My first visit since Covid. Not as cared for as it used to be, unfortunately. Perhaps the previous caretaker passed away or something. He did a great job maintaining the grounds. Has a less polished feel now. More mood, perhaps? I don’t know. It’s just not the same.
Beautiful historic cemetery, unfortunately too many dog owners are letting their dogs run through off lead, plaques in the garden area being wrecked and lost due to dogs running onto them.
Looks abandoned. Apart from the recent works to the surrounding walls, the grounds are unkempt. Lots of weeds, not a single flower to be seen. An interesting place with lots of history.
Great place to visir. Has sites dating back to the late 1800s. The side parths can be slippery as there is dirt and plant matter on these areas. Place is kept well with places to sit.
One of my favourite places to just go for a wander or brush up on local history. There are number of prominent individuals interred.
One of Melbourne's first Cemeteries. Also a resting place for one of Vic's first photographers.
Well kept cemetery with many old historical graves, trees and buildings.
Beautiful old peaceful cemetery with incredible tombstones
Feeling home. Would stay here forever. Very satisfied.
Lovely graveyard with lots of Catholic statuary.
Loved it. Place to think about life and death.
Watch out for Freddy and Jason.
People are dying to get in here
Too many dead people
Historic Cemetery!
