Stopped in for a beer and a quick bite and ended up eating some really delicious food. We ordered the Black Muscles and Szechuan Tofu and were pleasantly surprised at how amazing the food was. If you judge a book by its cover, you're unlikely to stop here for a meal... Your loss! Whoever the chef is/was that night, they really know their stuff! That being said, the staff were all really friendly, the food came out really quick, the music was good & at a nice middle volume, and the outdoor seating was accommodating of us & our puppies. My only "complaint" would be the lack of decent beers. Can't wait to go back again! Update: I would have tried over half the Home Hotel menu by now (and several from the previous menu), and the worst dish out of all of them was still really good (probably a 7/10) The food here is always amazing and keeps us coming back week after week. I'll be back again soon to try yet another of the chefs' delicious creations. Update 2: Still keep going back & enjoying the food here and now they have a better selection of beers. Unfortunately the craft beer menu (in my opinion) isn't an overly well curated selection of beers, but it's a good start. They're also heavily marked up, so it's likely they won't move many, leading to it being shut down as a bad idea. (As an example, they have very few IPAs to choose from & the $10 Moondog Dip-Hip-Opotomus is a $25 purchase)

I’ve driven by this hotel for a lifetime but never visited. Somehow it seemed like a manky kinda weird place or even haunted. But not these days. A local friend and me from the west, met up at #launchingplacehomehotel for several hours of catch up chit chat. I waited in the beer garden area until my friend arrived, then we headed indoors where it wasn’t so hot. Slumming it on a beautiful couch, billiard table nearby and the bar a few metres away, we settled in for an afternoon of catching up on the last 12 months. Starting with a G & T plus a LL&B our life debrief began. Then the munchies got us and my friend ordered salt and pepper calamari with aioli and lemon. Not being a fan of seafood, I was hesitant but gave it a try and very impressed with the texture and taste. Later, a bowl of chips with aioli again was the perfect snack to keep the big appetite we both had. The menu can cater for dietary requirements if you let the staff know. Notes: service was great and our dishes and empty glasses taken away quickly. Plenty of parking. Listen out for the motorbikes that come and go for a stopover. A band was playing in the beer garden with brief sets. Wheelchair accessible. Kid friendly. Food available for children. My only down side would be that the couch area had a “dank” smell which considering the age of the premises is not unusual but not great either. Recommend a visit for a refreshment, snack or meal when you are visiting the area. Thank you to all the staff for the lovely service and memorable experience.

Totally new ball game with the new owners. Great renovations. Just had my birthday lunch there today. 24 th December 22. Excellent service. Fast food delivery. I was quite taken aback at the entrees / food to share that we had ordered. Particularly the scallops which I ordered. At $20 the plate I received THREE only on tiny shells. No other accompaniment save a smear of parsnip and crumbs. To share ? Don't get me wrong, they were totally beautiful. Perfectly cooked. I was salivating. But 3 Then I looked closely and wondered if they were halves even. I wanted more of them. My friend suggested I order another plate . 3 more would still leave me ravenous! His entre calamari was also very lonely looking on the plate. But tasty he said. So we asked for the menu again. This time I had fish and chips. He had spaghetti with meatballs. Whiting tails x 2 with chips. ailoi and mostly green salad. Very crispy. Bit much batter for me. Nothing spectacular about the meatballs apparently. Place was pretty full inside . Service Excellent. Good surrounds. Bit noisy but is Xmas. Still lamenting the 3 tiny , lonely scollops. Extremely nice but so little.

Really enjoyed dinner here - the seasonal salad was delicious. Staff were friendly and the whole place was beautifully renovated and clean. Edited to add: Came here again and unfortunately it was nowhere near as good as the first time. Food (even the garlic bread entree) took 45+ mins to come out, and only arrived after we asked about it because we heard that the kitchen was about to close. I suspect they forgot our meals and then rushed to make them as some (simpler) things came out quickly and then it was another 10+ mins for the others. The food was a mixed bag but overall a bit lacklustre. Things like the beef burger containing an ingredient we specifically asked to be excluded, and the burger being undercooked, left us a bit disappointed. A shame after our first excellent experience where they set the bar high. I will give it another go and hope this was just an off day as I'd really love to see this business succeed! On the up side, one of the staff members was particularly lovely, and we appreciated the live music.

We've been meaning to try this place out for a while, and finally bit the bullet today. We were extremely blown away with the whole experience! The service was phenomenal from every single member of staff, and they were so lovely and accommodating of any requests we had. The ambience felt like your good old-fashioned country pub, which is exactly what you'd hope to find in a place like this. They have a wonderful range of beers and ciders on tap, which has absolutely made us ready to come back again soon. To top it all off, we had not planned on ordering any food, as we wanted to just make a quick stop over, but we're easily persuaded after seeing the menu. We had only ordered the daily special, however it was some of the best food we've had since moving to Melbourne a year ago. We will absolutely be back as soon as possible, and I cannot reccomend this place enough! I only wish we had come and visited sooner, as I cannot fault them on anything.

Nice place , sitting area and outdoor area looks fantastic. But food menu items are good on the list, but they need to improve the quality and quantity bit more . Especially with prices are not cheap , can do lot more with price they charging , I'm saying this from my own experience as I was a chef for 16 years. Ex- Chicken Parma too small, has to be bigger especially as a pub meal.( too much chips but not enough main protein) Pork ribs too dry not worth $42 at all , you can get better quality ribs for the same price at a high end restaurant. No waiting staff to take the orders at the tables is a another thing you could fix it in no time , such a nice place must have waiting staff to take the food and drinks orders. overall current menu is ok, but needs to improve it a lot if you guys want return customers. Staff is Nice and friendly Hope my review is helpful to improve your business . Good Luck .Cheers

Really enjoyed my experience here. Enthusiastic and warm welcome on arrival, clean, inviting and comfortable surroundings in the lounge. Delicious Flat White Coffee, so good I had 2. My burger and chips was perfect, juicy and tasty with great ingredients and plenty of nice chips. I was tempted to ask for a ride in the convertible our gorgeous host/waitress told us about but it's probably to full of puppies Definitely a must try venue that I look forward to experiencing again in the near future.

Driven past this place soo many times on the way to Warby. Decided to stop in a few weeks ago for a drink and then a couple of weeks later for a meal. Been back several times since. Food is awesome and love their small meal options. Service is brilliant and all of the staff are soo friendly and welcoming. Sunday afternoon in front of the fire listening to the live Music a must. Also Monday nights open mic is great fun. Can't wait to visit in summer but will be back before that. Big tick from us

Tim accomodated my Aunt beautifully. He placed signs out the front so that I could park closer to the door so she didn’t have to walk far due to an injured back. She thoroughly enjoyed the fuss and the small meal of Fish and Chips was just a perfect size for her. I on the other hand also enjoyed my Chilli and garlic mussels. With grilled sourdough and the soup, was amazing. Tim came and had a chat with us and this put my Aunty at ease. Minna, Melissa and the other ladies were great too. A new menu for Summer ☀️ offered a variety of choices. Will be back!!

The outside area has been redone and is amazing. We sat under the patio on a brisk Winter's day with our jackets and the heater for a great Covid-safe option and had a great time. We came at the end of a rush, so our meals were delayed, but before we could become antsy, the manager approached us about the delay to apologise and explain and sort it out. Our meals arrived soon after and were delicious - I had the bbq beef ribs special (if had cornbread included would have been my ideal meal). It's a great place for a family meal; I only fear it'll become so popular we won't be able to fit in as often as we like.

First utterance was "when you're ready, order at the Bar" - not the warmest greeting we've ever had. Seriously, 4 indifferent waitresses for not more than 30-odd patrons & all they're doing is delivering/removing plates? I would've loved that job when I worked in hospitality - I think an experienced team of 2 could manage full table service & it would definitely encourage people to come back. The menu is compact with small meals for kids/elderly & given the counter lunch ordering system, quite expensive. The Chef could easily get a job anywhere they liked. Difficult to review - they'd do much better with some tweaks. Chalk & Cheese

This is the country pub you've been looking for! Great, classic pub food done well for reasonable prices. We loved that you could choose a standard size meal or a smaller serving (for a smaller price, of course). Warm, welcoming service and a comfortable dining room where you could settle in. We came for an impromptu dinner on a Monday night and enjoyed our meal by the cosy fireplace. Parma and fish and chips went down a treat, as did the salmon special with tangy, warming romesco. Plenty of easy parking, a pool table, and different dining areas to suit you whether you want a lively backdrop or a quieter meal. Can't wait to go back!

We have been long term but not very frequent patrons and noted some negative feedback since the new owners. We thought we should decide for ourselves. So: we were greeted promptly. Staff were pleasant. The menu was limited, but they acknowledged this. We found the servings were generous in size. Will we go back? Probably. Update to December 2022. I tried to write a new review, but couldn't. So new owners etc. Staff were very pleasant and attentive. We probaly had the best seat near the fireplace. The food was good, but the servings were too generous. They did offer, and we accepted a take away box for our leftovers. Yes we will go back.

Ive been here every time they change business owners from shutting down. But this time was by far the worst. Not coming back until they shut down. This time I went with my mother and father, and I ordered the chicken schnitzel, my mother ordered the lamb and my father ordered a steak. I threw up on the way home into a bush because it was that awful. All of them were undercooked and dry. No flavour whatsoever. The next morning my mother woke up feeling awful, went to the doctor she had salmonella. DONT GO HERE UNTIL THEY GET NEW OWNERS - 2023

Place is looking great, food is priced on the higher side eg $15-$17 for kids meals no drinks or desert. $45 for a small ribeye with 3 potatoes and 3 bitter pieces of squash however it was cooked to perfection. Service is great although we did ask for the kids meals and entrees to come all at the same time with mains, staff confirmed that twice and they still came out separate. $4 for a game of pool and kids play area anymore. The bear garden was awesome live bands played on a Friday night and fairylight set the scene. Overall we enjoyed our night.

Such an amazing pub right on warby highway! We walked in for a late dinner and were blown away. The staff were friendly and polite, food was simply incredible. We ordered the slow cooked lamb and the chicken parmy... both were generously portioned, tasty and cooked to perfection. Will definitely be back when we visit warby next.

This place is actually awesome! I used to drive past all the time but never went in and from the street didn't know what to expect. But since COVID it's apparently under new management, has been renovated, new chef...the works. I was really surprised, the beer garden is really nice, the food was great, awesome local wines, lovely staff, and live music on weekends too. If I was a little closer this would definitely be my local. They even have several dedicated pens where you can hitch your horse (not kidding!)...this is peak country-pub!

Staff were very accommodating and attentive to our needs. Although the pub was flat out and the service was slow the Food portions and quality was very good. The bistro was so loud that we asked to be moved to the bar and the staff supported us. It seems the chef has an infatuation with spice / hot food which l love but it needs to be applied to the right meats. Spicy Pork ribs were good but the spice just didn’t do it for me.

We were extremely happy that this was the place we chose to have dinner. We really wanted to find a nice place to eat dinner on a couch in front of an open fire. We couldn't find one online that advertised this, but to our delight, that's what we got when walking in. The staff were so friendly and welcoming. The food was absolutely fantastic and reasonably priced! It's such a beautiful place inside. Thank you

Have dined here twice over the last week. Food is so delicious and portion size is generous. The chef obviously cares about what he plates as you can see that thought, and love has been put into the menu and food preparation. Not child friendly at all. It is almost like they intentionally do want children there. Kids Menu is expensive and no dessert or drinks options. Was told kids can just order the $12 ice cream...Meals are small and a few dollars below $40 for their non pub meals. I nearly fell over when I paid 5.50 for 1 can of coke minus the can, just a glass. Food was good, tasted great but won't be back as a local place to eat because I can't afford to take my family !

  • Lindsay M

Excellent quality food and a varied menu to suit all tastes. Vast selection of good wines to choose from. There are so many different nooks and crannies around the venue that, even with a large crowd of patrons, it doesn’t feel jam-packed. The beer garden is exceptional! The staff exude fun and go out if their way to make you feel welcome. All in all, a great ambiance and a memorable evening. We’ll done Home Hotel! We plan on being back before long!

It's become a weekly ritual for me to stop off on my way home for the eggplant parma with vegan cheese, great value at $22 - its yummo. I love that they cater for vegans by also offering a yummy, vegan risotto too. I've been a few times with a group of friends and everyone has always been very happy with their meals. Just stopped off at the Launching Place Home Hotel on the way home from the Labour Day weekend. Been wanting to stop here for years gone by, and now since the renovations and re-opening we have. Fantastic. Brilliant outdoor ‘beer’ garden where we enjoyed a wine and beer and lovely lunch. Service excellent. Lovely friendly staff. Food wonderful. Great way to finish a camping weekend. Highly recommend. We will be back.

All round the Launching Place Home Hotel was a very good experience. It has a very nice outdoor area that was heated in the cold evening, and several bar area rooms including live music. We were there for dinner, which was prompt and very good. Kids fish and chips could have done with some salad, but calamari rings and the expertly-cooked porterhouse went down a treat. Look forward to our next visit

The most flavourful dishes I’ve eaten in a long time! The lamb shoulder is incredible, as well as the pork and the side of charred vegies were also delicious. Thanks for a very enjoyable meal. Peppercorn jus with the Steak sounded great but was thin and tasted burnt. Bartender was a little hopeless too. Couldn't pour a beer or make a Lemon Lime and Bitters. Half cordial??? We had a great lunch at the hotel as a family of four. The staff were excellent - some were clearly new, but doing a fabulous job. The menu has a great balance of pub classics and some more interesting dishes which are well executed. The focus on Yarra Valley wines and beers is admirable. The renovation is awesome. We will be back - next time with our dog, to relax in the beer garden.

City prices for mediocre food and drinks. Partners porterhouse steak was ordered "well done", came out pink. As locals, we won't be returning.

the “chicken” schnitzel was absolutely revolting, i’m not sure who’s idea it was to make a schnitzel out of chicken thighs but my god that was the most disgusting meal i’ve ever eaten at a pub. i highly suggest using chicken breast like a normal human would. vomit

The food was great! My husband had the beef cheek and it melted in your mouth. I had the fish & chips and it was pretty good. Great local wine selection and staff were friendly.

Last night we had dinner at HH for the first time and not only was everyone so lovely, but the food was amazing. I appreciated the smaller plates they offer on the menu so I still had room for dessert.

I spilled my drink all over the table before having a sip and Suzannah came to clean it up. She even replaced the drink free of charge I didn’t even ask. Great service. Friday 21st of July

I cannot wait to bring my family back to this pub. The food was so good, the drinks were great and the lovely Christina was an absolute delight. We sat outside under the lights and had a such a good time. All the serving staff were great too.

Service was great and the waitress was lovely but unfortunately the food wasn’t that great. The garlic wings were very greasy and soggy. Was quite disappointed that the parma was thigh and not breast. Was in and out of there within 40 mins.

Ordered a porterhouse steak with pepper sauce. The sauce was probably a very diluted beef stock with pepper corns floating and tasteless. The steak was tough and tasteless too. Not returning to that place anytime soon.

Good food, great old pub sympatheticly restyled. We a table of ten enjoyed our meals. Prompt service with drinks and meals. Only suggestion would be to place meals a little more gently on the table! Thankyou …

Great night out. Food was delicious- lamb shoulder, chicken parma & calamari were highlights. Great wine list showcasing all so many local wineries. Hargreaves Hill on tap. Beautiful renno too. We’ll be back.

Burnt bread & 3 pieces only with the Ploughman platter, asked for a 4th & never recvd. Over cooked chips & tiny Parma. Requested BBQ sauce on burger, and they missed that too.

Overpriced entree serves for mains. Miserable size eye filet compared to next hotel up but then they don’t give weight on menu so they can give you what ever size they want.

  • Ruth Landells

Wow what a transformation. Lovely relaxing atmosphere, great service & fabulous food, a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon. The pork belly & watercress salad was amazing.

  • P K

Great renovation, service fantastic, food below average. Ordered the osso buco, it was very poor. It was can tomato and boiled meat. No flavour at all. Won't eat here again.

Food was amazing and so fresh, I had the whiting and my husband had calamari. Hardly no wait time, lovely old pub so warm and toasty by the fire, on a chilly day …
