Did some extensive research on mechanic shops from Killeen to Austin after countless tries with other mechanics and landed with these guys due to their amazing reviews on Facebook, Yelp, and here on Google.. Initially got quoted a decent price for a decent amount of work to get done, but mind you all of this work getting done is something that was recommended from other shops.. Fast forward after 3 days of having my Jeep in the shop and I get it back, pretty much none of the issues I had initially got fixed. Nothing got properly “diagnosed”. They only did the work I was previously told I needed done. For a $2,000 payment, you’d think they’d cover all bases and go ahead and truly diagnose the issue beforehand. Regardless, after just having my a/c recharged, it started making a noise while on and as of today it no longer blows air period. I guess it’s on me for not properly asking for a diagnosis, but I assumed a mechanic would take even the slightest look around before trusting a customers word on what’s needed from previous shops.. Overall they have friendly staff, but very disappointed on how we got our vehicle back. Still have 2 noises that we had before that were claimed to be fixed, plus the additional noise from ac that has now stopped working altogether. Offered us a free diagnosis now, but after shelling out $2k originally, there’s not much more we can afford to spend on repairs.. On a positive note - they did bring out a Dodge technician to fix a programming issue we had .. that’s about the only repair that stuck over the weekend since having our Jeep back..

I started to go here about a year ago, and they never did anything to make me doubt their honesty... Until last Friday. I brought my car in on Nov 10, 2017, and they said that my battery, intake gasket and starter needed to be replace in addition to an oil change. They said it would be about $1,000 (major surprise) due to the labor that goes into replacing the starter in the make and model of my car and that it would take more than one day to do the work, so they would start the work on Friday, and it will be ready on Monday which means a weekend without my car. I needed my car for the weekend, so I said I will drop it off Monday but do the oil change. I picked up my car, and the guy said they did the oil change, and they will keep my bill open until I drop off my car on Monday. During the weekend, I got a second and third opinion. They both said there is nothing wrong with the starter, and I just needed a new battery and a oil change (which Leonard's garage said they already did). So I choose to get the new battery and the oil change which came to a total of $300 which is much lower then the $1,000 that Leonards tried to charge me. Honestly, I will never go back there because I can not trust them. Seriously, they tried to turn a $300 bill into a $1,000. I got 2 other opinions and they both said the same thing. Do not trust these people, and if you bring your car there, get a second opinion because that helped me save $700.

Well, all I can say at this point is I'm disappointed and frustrated. 3 repairs later over the course of several months and my AC has yet to be fixed. Leonard's is a great place for a temporary solution that will last a few weeks, a month if you're lucky, but I would recommend a shop that cares more about doing the job correctly than quickly. I want to write a long review explaining all that's happened, but quite frankly I just want to put all my experiences and money I've wasted at this shop behind me. I will be taking the invoices I have received to another shop to check the legitimacy of their work. I hate writing bad reviews, and I almost didn't write another one for this shop (I wrote one after the second time they didn't fix my AC but deleted it in exchange for them to fix it the third time, which they still didn't do correctly), but I feel I'd be cheating myself even more if I just let this slide; I'd also be cheating others in not letting people know that this shop struggles to confidently diagnose an issue and allows customers to continue to spend money on unneeded repairs. I'm sure Leonard's understands. Thanks for a waste of time and money. I will not be returning and for any new customers I suggest you keep your distance for your own sake.

Don’t take your car here! Don’t take your motorcycle here! They’re expensive and slick. They seem very nice but are not! They don’t know enough about motorcycles. They could even adjust my clutch correctly. After having my motorcycle worked on by Leonard’s I figured I’d give them a chance with my car. I took my car there several times I it was expensive but I wanted a near by mechanic I could trust. Then I had some work done on my transmission. When I came to pick up the car my a/c wasn't working. I knew what the problem was because I know something about cars and I've seen the same problem on a different car. Leonard’s told me that it was broken when it came in which wasn't true. I had some words with Jason (the manager I think?) about this and he accused me of taking advantage of them. HA…. A mechanic saying that a customer is taking advantage of them is very funny! Then in so many words he called me a liar. I pride myself on being a very honest person. Then he banned me from coming back after I though he hung up on me and I sad some words. As if I would ever go back to Leonard’s after they called me a liar and treated me so badly. Don’t go here if you know anything about cars. Don't go here period.

The reviews on this place are great, so I want to think my experience here was the exception. Been meaning to write a review since last fall, when I brought these guys my 02 Corolla for a couple repairs. Gave them nearly $700 to fix an oil leak and also replace a part on the evap system causing my check engine light to be on. $700 later, I got my car back- still leaking oil (a day after the repair) and the check engine light came right back on (a few days after the repair.) Brought it back and was told I must have a new oil leak, and they installed a new part without my authorization towards fixing the evap issue. (No offer to refund my money for previous part and labor installed after first incorrect diagnosis of evap issue; no refund for the over $100 "diagnostic fee" either, although the diagnosis was incorrect.) I asked them to remove the second part because I didn't have any more money to spend on the issues I'd already paid to have fixed. Installed it myself for much cheaper since they insisted if it was not the first thing they guessed, it must be the second. It wasn't that either. Very friendly customer service here, but ultimately I threw away $700 and got my car back with no improvement.

UPDATE: The starter they installed broke after 6 months, and started chewing at my flywheel every time I started my car. When I called them to offer to bring back their defective starter, as well as a report from the dealership showing the damage it had done, they notified me they'd only help me if they did the work themselves. The dealership was 30 min. north of them, and I needed my car that weekend. It was literally on the lift when they told me this. I'm already out the diagnostic fee from the dealer. For several reasons, this arrangement wouldn't work for me. They didn't want to hear it. Really an awful experience. Will never go here or recommend it again. --- The starter they used in my 2012 Civic (138k miles) was $347, which is by far the most expensive starter I had seen. Most seem to be between $70-$190. I'm glad the part is of such high quality, but with the age of the vehicle, I would have appreciated a more affordable part be used instead, or at least give me the option. When put on the spot, not being a mechanic, it's hard to push back on an estimate. Also, echoing the previous review, paying for the diagnostic ($80) after agreeing to use the services of the garage feels exorbitant.

Let me tell you my experience with Leonard's. 1st visit I got an oil change everything was smooth. 2nd visit my power steering bump broke and fluid got all over so they replaced the pump and a couple belt cost me +$2000 3rd visit the power steering pump they installed wasn't working so I took it back and it wasn't working as I thought so they had to replace it again, luckily free of charge. 4th visit got a normal oil change and filter change and had to do an engine diagnostics cause my wife took in the car and the person who serviced my vehicle said "This car is in great shape should keep running for a long time." 5th visit my vehicle is having a hard time starting got it towed in, turn out my engine valves were leaking which I knew about but they leaked to the point that it messed up the starter and some wiring so this cost me $1800. 6th visit my car is still having problem starting and I get it towed in again and they can not get it to repeat the problem and the car is starting fine and still charge me $80 for diagnostics. A couple week later my car won't start again and I will now never go back to Leonard's or recommend this shop to anyone.

Brandon and Jason at Leonard's Garage were friendly and helpful to my mom and I with her Tahoe. We initially took her Tahoe to Jiffy Lube and they ran it for codes because she kept getting a warning light. They suggested we go to Leonard's Garage with the codes and have it checked out and repaired there. My mom was hesitant because she didn't want to be fooled into repairs that were non-existent. She is Deaf so I like to go and help her in these types of situations because I don't want her to be taken advantage of as well. Come to find out there were several issues, but she has never had it in the shop for repairs in 10 years other than routine maintenance so this was understandable. They worked on it for a couple of days and when she got it back- it felt like a different car. She is very satisfied with her Tahoe. As a matter of fact she has taken it back for an oil change and calls it her shop! So I want to thank the guys for being honest and helpful to us and we will be back!

I feel very comfortable dropping 5 stars. I stopped by with questions on my Mazda Rx8- expecting to be scurried away by non knowledgeable reps- I was greeted at the door by a very nice guy named Jonathan Tutt. We sat for a good minute and he thoroughly listened to me and what I had to say about my car (most places dont listen they think they will figure everything out and send you on your way they) He patiently listened to my perspective than addressed each concern with an answer. Talking about routes and options- I left with a solid plan in mind thanks to him! He recommended me bring my car in with the check engine light on- I know it's small. But knowing he didnt just take my car because he DEFINATLY could have- just to make 130 bucks or so (because I was more than willing) he secured me with a plan and here I am! Writing a review because this is a good shop I can tell they are honest about their work and passionate. Aaron

(tldr: they erased the diagnostic data so I couldn't get a second opinion.) I used to go here very loyally until this happened in early 2021. When my check engine light came on, I went there to get it checked out. The service provider said I needed a new catalytic converter, and several new interconnect parts and the quote was about $3,000. Wary of over paying for services, I asked to pick the car up. When I did the service provider mentioned "Oh I turned off that pesky check engine light by the way". When I took my vehicle to another provider for a second opinion, they said that the Leonard's guy erased all of the diagnostic data when he erased the check engine light. Without that data there was nothing I could do except either take it back to Leonard's or continue driving until it came back on. It took 8 months for that light to come back on and the cost of repairs from a responsible shop were half what Leonard's quoted.

Very nice people and management but service can be a little slow and you should really check your tires after the 'complimentary tire rotation' to make sure you're still good to drive. The first time I came I was told my front tires were worn and would need replacing soon and they wouldn't rotate it because it wasn't safe. When I was leaving the shop I had to make a U-turn and my car loss traction and I nearly went into the wall. I pulled over immediately and called and it turns out they HAD rotated my tires. If I had been driving quickly it would've been an accident. I drove back immediately so they could fix it and I guess they made their point so I just purchased new tires. I returned at 12pm and didn't leave until 3 or so because they needed to put on the tires. I was pretty miffed about the ordeal but subsequently they've made up for it by dealing with my warranty company for me instead of having me do it myself.

Take it from someone that has been in this business for years that Leonard's should be the last place you take your car to. With knowing how they work as a former employee. They bump all book time labor and by about .3 or more on top of having one of the highest labor rates in Austin for a independent shop ($113.93 compared to the average of about $98.) Now lets talk parts mark up INSANE way more than any where else other than maybe Christian Brothers. Do your shopping this place will be the most expensive every time(by far). To all of the customers that have remained loyal to Jason and Leonard's over the years this is a guy that smiles to your face while sticking his hands deep, deep , DEEP in your pockets and will lie about what kind of miles are on a used engine or transmission that are put in your vehicle so that you will buy it. Can not warn people enough STAY AWAY. Find a shop that STILL has integrity.

  • Gloria Johnson

Fantastic Service!!! Had a flat tire, called Leonard's, they sent a very nice guy to my home, he put on the spare and drove it to the shop for me. Jason called right away and gave me the bad news that my tire was not repairable. He also informed me that all of my other tires were in bad shape and he would recommend replacing them. I appreciated that because if there is one thing I hate is to be stranded on the road with any kind of car trouble, even a flat tire! Also, because I have been trusting Leonard's Garage for years to be honest with me and take care of my car needs. I gave him permission to change out all the tires (Good thing they sell tires also) and they delivered my car back to my home by 5pm! I Highly Recommend Leonard's Garage, for their Professional and Friendly Service, Excellent and Knowledgeable Technicians and most of all for their Honesty and Integrity!

Do NOT take your car here for a pre-purchase inspection. They inspected the car we were buying and told me everything was fine. First, the driver seat belt was kinda busted (it latches sometimes and does not latch some other times), second, the driver seat window is stuck sometimes when it's too hot. And then we took the car to another mechanic, they told us the tires were very worn down, there's also a nail in one of the tires. There's also a slight crack in the windshield. I cannot believe how these things were missed from Leonard. We already bought the car so it's too late to change anything. But, do not take your car to LEONARD for inspection. I honestly did not know if they actually looked at the car at all. Because they also could not provide a list of things they checked and what conditions they are in.

  • Matthew Navarro

Do not service your vehicle here. We took our car here for an oil change where they claim to also check for fluid, oil and collant leaks. Within 1 week of taking our car here, it overheated and broke down. Leonard's Garage refused to cover any of my expenses. They either did not check our collant level, replace the cap or failed to identify a leak. Neither of which are acceptable if you are paying a professional to a job. They would not even pay for a tow to get my car to their shop to "see if they were at fault". We are now out $1,100 because we trusted them to care for our vehicle. We will not be taking our vehicles to Leonard's Garage for service any longer and will tell everyone we know to stay away from them. We are beyond dissapointed with their service and customer service.

Wow. The people at this place are SO FRIENDLY! I spoke to Johnathan on the phone about helping me replace a brake drum (I already had the part). He said come in whenever. When I got there, they offered to do a complimentary check for all sorts of things for my car, which was great. Even though I didn't have an appointment, they were able to replace the brake drum within a half an hour. When I was in the waiting room, another employee offered me a cold beverage! After the part was replaced, Johnathan said it was complimentary! I made sure to provide a tip :) I have never been treated so nicely at any sort of car repair shop ever in my life. For any future work, I will definitely drive out of my way to go to Leonard's. They honestly treat their customers like really good friends.

  • Cindy Shawver

They're very professional and polite. Jeremy is very nice. My only issue is that they mark their parts up 2x over car part places or online. Their labor is $150 /hr, $50 more an hour than my father's garage. My dad's garage is over 3 hrs from Austin, and it being a steering leak issue, needed to be fixed here vs Lake Jackson, Texas, if anyone questions why i didn't take it to my dad's shop. I also think if I'm getting my car repaired at the shop, I shouldn't be charged the diagnostic fee. If I take my car elsewhere, yes. But that's a charge that should be dropped if I'm agreeing to your services and prices. I only got that dropped because my mechanic father called to question their prices. Work seems fine so far.

This is the best place for car service in Austin! They're always warm, welcoming, and ready to help. Pros: This is a full service spot. They're not just changing your oil, taking your money and pushing you out the door. When you drop off the car, they're making sure everything looks good: belts, filters, oil, etc. I don't feel like I need to ask for a second opinion on anything. I completely trust these guys with my car, which is hard to say of most shops nowadays. They have always done honest business, and I couldn't ask for more. I also love their loyalty program; after 3 oil changes you get one for free! Cons: Mild wait times, but that's because they're giving your car all the love and attention it deserves.

After reading the highly favorable online reviews for Leonard's, I decided to try them out on my 2011 Ford Escape. No question: FIVE STARS. While doing the 10,000 servicing, they identified the cause of a problem I had and recommended taking it to the dealer since it would be under warranty. They said to have the dealer call them if they had any difficulty determining the problem. Sure enough, the dealer called them. In addition, Leonard's staff is highly professional, friendly, and knowledgable, and their facility (South First St.) is spotless. They went to work on the car immediately, and the wait was a very reasonable 45 minutes. The best auto servicing experience I've had in my 45 years of car ownership.

My son recommended Leonard's when we recently moved to Austin. I called and spoke with Leonard last January when I was looking for a used car to get around in my "new" city. He said to come right over and he would take a look at my potential 2004 volvo wagon, getting me in immediatly upon arrival. He gave me a two thumbs up on my potential car and I was on my way vowing to return for all service thereafter. I find Leonards a first class operation in every way and I highly recommend them. I travel from North Austin just to get the best service at Leonard's as well as reasonable prices. Chris at the customer desk is awesome as he calls me when he says he will and is the perfect gentleman.

Generally, I cringe when I have to find a repair shop. I live between Houston and Galveston and my daughter lives in Austin. Her Nissan Frontier broke down and needed immediate help. I didn't know who to call in Austin, and luckily came across Leonard's. I took a chance with Leonard's Garage based on the positive reviews and knowing nothing about their facility, but I am happy I did. Lenny and Jason and their crew jumped on the situation, were able to accurately diagnose the problem and make the repairs right away. Efficient, professional, trustworthy and friendly...truly cared about my daughter and her predicament. An auto service and repair facility like this is hard to find.

This was my first visit to Lenard's. I just moved to Austin from Las Vegas. I was treated like a loyal Customer by the staff. Everyone was friendly, the service was completed as promised, they called me when it was done. I first brought my VW Jetta TDI for on oil change and was so happy with your service and the fair price that I brought in my 2006 Chevy 4x4 Diesel in for a Fuel Filter the same day. The staff Greatly exceeded my expectations. I would definitely refer friends, neighbors and anyone else I can. I saw some of the other review's saying they were expensive. I am used to taking my vehicles to a dealer. Leonard's was reasonably priced, especially compared to a dealer.

  • Jared Wickman

I took my car to Leonard's Garage (Lamar location) to get my brakes and rotors done. I had not yet had to have my car serviced in Austin yet, so I was nervous to choose a random garage. I could not have chosen better! I was very pleased with their customer service--so much so, that I have been telling all my friends and family. I like how they give you a little coupon for your next visit (based on how much you spent the last time). I felt very much at ease, they used quality parts, the price was reasonable, and they seem to have done a good job all around... I couldn't be happier, and I will be coming back for all service I have to have on my car. Thanks, Leonard's!

  • Bubba King

A friend had suggested I call Leonard's Garage about getting a new exhaust installed on my 2006 C6 Corvette. Andrew was extremely friendly over the phone and said to bring by the car so they could give me an estimate. Leonard's beat the best price I found anywhere, included a warranty. Andrew and Kyle even suggested that I record a video of the stock exhaust to compare the new one to. Leonard's got the exhaust and installed it in only one day. They had it parked right up front and were waiting for us when we came to pick it up. My wife and son even commented that the guys at Leonard's seemed to be as excited as I was about the new exhaust. Exceeded my expectations!.

  • Colly Wright

I brought in a CJ7 with an engine knock and I received the answer that I thought I would get "it needs a new motor" but the total cost to do so would have been way more than I thought the vehicle was worth. I asked for alternatives and to my surprise Josh did offer a few options and unfortunately it was not what I was interested in paying for. Leonard's Shop to their credit offered to call around to other mechanic shops to provide me with additional possibilities to have my CJ7 repaired. I am impressed with their desire to make their potential customers happy and their willingness to help me find alternative methods to meet my repair needs.

  • Alyssa Brennan

I took my car here to get a second opinion on my brakes. Brake Specialists down the street originally told me there was nothing wrong, but my brakes kept making an awful noise. Leonard's was able to promptly diagnose the problem and fixed it in less time than was initially quoted. The pricing was very reasonable too - and I got a free car wash from the place next door (Bonus!). After the work had been done, Leonard shook my hand. I thought that was very nice of the owner to do. Then I received a nice card in the mail a few days later. These people know what Customer Services is, and I highly recommend taking your car here for any services.

  • tate buhrmester

I got a random mail coupon for a $25 oil change and went here since neither Midas nor Austin automotive responded to the appointment requests I placed on their sites. Leonard's responded back in an email at 7am the following morning so I went with them after reading the reviews and I'm glad I did. The manager of the location and another man were there in the front office the whole day. Nice guys, organized and tidy, prompt service. They even vacuumed my car out and performed a safety check as a complimentary service. It felt like good old-timey car servicing. I'll only be going back here and recommending them to anyone who asks.

  • Amber B.

Went in for a brake job and ended up having my ABS wire and brake line in my suspension coils on the passenger front end. So I go in and show them a photo after I have a trusted mechanic fix it. The ABS light kept coming on when I hit bumps while driving so we had to check it out. Good thing we did! Glad my brake line didn’t sever!! So they offer a free oil change. They changed my oil when I got the brake job done, and they were at least a quart short of oil. This place takes advantage of women - or they just suck at fixing up cars. Either way, never again will I trust my life with this company.

  • Slipstream TX

I've been coming to Leonard's Garage for about two years now and they've been amazing. Everyone at the shop is super helpful and very personable. They also never try and talk down to me when I don't understand part of a repair or a process, and take the time to explain what it is they're doing and why so I can learn and understand. Pricing is competitive (sorry I shopped around!) and the product they use have always been quality. I can safely say I would refer Leonard's to my mother and can rest easy knowing they'll treat her right. As a matter of fact... I have referred her here!

  • Debra Flores

Absolutely the best experience one could ask for. My window regulator "exploded" and I didn't even know it. Called Leonard's and asked for the manager, only because I needed my vehicle in time for a road trip on Saturday. Warranty company said minimum 48 hours, but Leonard's team had me in and out in 6 hours. This includes some needed maintenance, oil change, filter changes, tire rotation etc. This place is fantastic! I will be going back, and I will spread the good word. I am a huge believer in "word of mouth" advertisement. They are miles above the rest. Thank you all so much.

  • Tony Garcia

I referred my uncle to Leonard's. Needless to say they completely tried to deceive the problem making more issues than they were charged on parts over 100%. Part cost from manufacture was $240.00 they wanted to charge $560.00 + an additional $160.00 for gaskets,, which came with the part for $240.00. $520.00 over charge on 1 part. These guys are scam artists. Be sure and get a second opinion, better yet stay away. Tried to advise a rear brake job not needed. STAY AWAY!!!! SCAMMERS THEY Quoted $2000.00 for job. Got it done for $600.00 with a certified mechanic. STAY AWAY!!!!

  • Shari Farrell

ONLY place I take my vehicle to. Austin family owned from Grandfather down - but here's BIG truth.. I have 2005 BMW and single mom. I had A LOT of work to be done. I took Leonard's quote of all work to FOUR different shops that could work on BMWs. 2 matched, 1 was $10 under, and one said they couldn't do it for that. Since I already knew I could count on Leonard's - there was no question. THEN he helped me narrow down to what I could afford now - and then the rest later - with same labor charges. He's kept me and my son safe and able to get to and from work and school.

  • Vanessa Voorhies

Paid $135 for them to not even look under my hood. John had no idea that my catalytic repair was welded on/ done wrong from a previous muffler shop. Furthermore, they quoted me on $2,500 worth of repair; after a third opinion, my max repair was maaaaaaybe one grand for the type of car- OEM approved with labor, but they recommended fuel injectors, all three o2 sensors to be replaced, and some other unneeded things. It’d be cool to get at least half my money back, since Auto Zone pulls Codes for free and that’s pretty much all they did without even looking at my cat.

  • Kevin “KayNgu” Nguyen

Had some pretty bad vibrations in my truck when I was braking. I took it to Leonard's Garage thinking they would charge for diagnostic, but they don't which is awesome. I dropped my car off in the late afternoon and went back to work. About an hour later they called me and told me the issue. I had them fix it up with new rotors and brake pads. They had it done by the next morning and it's running very smoothly now. Seem like honest people and they're labor charge is extremely fair. I'd definitely go back for any further issues I can't handle myself.

  • Don Scans

Thanks to the manager for calling me to personally inquire about a service issue I had. After a thorough explanation, we resolved the situation. This was a good case for me because I am a long time satisfied customer. Leonard's has bailed me out of car mishaps more times than not. I very much appreciated their time to make a call and ask about my service visit and my level of satisfaction. I use my 2003 Honda for a great deal of travel and having a trusted, dependable auto care facility means a whole lot to me. Thanks guys! I will be back-

  • Maxwell Lablaikas

Spent a lot of money for something that was never fixed. Update to owners response: My invoice number was 124899. My car was leaking oil and it sat in your shop for over a week. Diagnosis and supposed repair was timing cover and gasket. The car continued leaking as much oil as it had previously. I took my vehicle into another shop and timing cover and gasket was also diagnosed as part of the repair I had to pay for again. I have a copy of the invoice I can upload if you like. As well as the invoice from the repair I had to have redone.

  • Chris Gmitter

Phenomenal customer service!! Jonathan exhibited exceptional care for my car & for my pocketbook. Though my poor Fiat was too far gone - RIP her beautiful soul - he was incredibly patient & accommodating whilst I shopped for a new vehicle & coordinated the trade-in tow over a two-week period. From establishing an instant rapport to solidifying my trust with their competitive pricing, sugar-free diagnosis, & shattering of misogynistic mechanic stereotypes, both Jonathan & Jason have secured all my future automotive repair business.

  • Marcos Alfonso

Excellent service, polite staff, good prices, good hours. Had a really great first experience with these guys. Wife needed oil change and tire rotation, I followed in my car and as we were leaving in my vehicle after the drop-off the man at the counter noticed one of my rear lights was out. He popped in a new one free of charge with no hesitation to my pleasant surprise. Wife's car was done in a timely manner, and quality of work and price met expectations. Will definitely be going back, even though its kind of out of the way!

  • Brandon

Scheduled an appointment two days out. Called day of to verify we were still on but they did not have record of an appointment for me. When scheduling the appointment I verified if they needed anything else from me before I got off the phone because I thought it was strange that they didn't take my vehicle information down. I've done service there before though so I didn't think too much of it. Everyone there is cordial and nice but I haven't had good experiences with the organization/coordination at this shop.

I have known Leonard for about 15 years as a police officer and his shop has taken care of all of my auto mechanic needs for about ten years. HONEST & CAPABLE. His shop on South 1st street is run by a former Marine -Jason. All the mechanics there (Craig is my primary mechanic) are all top notch and certified. Not the cheapest but far from most expensive but most important of all- they do it RIGHT AND ARE HONEST!! You get what you pay for. I drive from Lakeway to South Austin to have them service all of my cars.

  • DANA FETTES

Thank you for all you did for me!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you thank you!!!!!! Edit 8/2/22: I had to come back and elaborate on my post. My month was going most wonderfully (emphasis on the sarcasm); and then my car wouldn't start the next morning. 2nd day on the job and just after two hours I get a call to come back and pick up Boo aka, my car! Mechanic Chuck, You are my savior! Boo is still going!!! I'mma come back that is for sure and soon!! Work had their doubts until they saw the receipt; THANK YOU AGAIN!!!!!!!!

  • Rick Overholt

My truck serpentine belt broke a couple of blocks from Leonard’s at 10PM on a Thursday I found these guys on Google Maps with a 4+ star rating. Left the truck in their lot, called them the next morning. They replaced my broken power steering unit, the belt bd were done by 11am! Great service, very friendly courteous employees. The price they charged was more than fair, about 1/3 of what the dealer would charge. They should raise prices 10%, no one would complain. Thanks for getting me back on the road!

  • Rebecca Pollack

I had always taken my car to the dealership in SC prior to moving to Austin and had great service from them. Unfortunately when I went to the Nissan dealership here it was a complete 180 in terms of quality and customer service. Leonard’s was recommended to me by a friend when I needed my check engine light looked into. The customer service was excellent and I didn’t feel like they were trying to oversell me but also felt like they knew what they were doing. Bonus- I got my car back in the same day!

  • Yuko Yoshikane

This shop has been my place to go when I have a car problem. What the most amazing thing about this shop is : They are super honest and genuine. If my car has no problem after detailed checkup or diagnostic, they would tell me so. That’s a first! Every shops I’ve gone to have tried to squeeze money out of me even if my car is drivable and fine. Super friendly and fast service as well. I wish that I got the manager’s name! He was super nice and sincere! I would recommend this place to anyone!

  • Chris Thompson

Was quoted $700 for parts/labor to replace a window regulator. I ended up finding the same part online, ordered for $100, and installed myself in less than an hour. Considering how little experience I have replacing any automobile components, the quote I received was outrageous. Additionally, I was charged $90 to 'diagnose' the issue, which I had already explained when dropping the vehicle off. Couldn't have been more than 10 minutes of actual work. Nice people, but I will not be back.

  • Liz Kelley

I've had my brakes, filers, mechanical issues, oil changes and more done at Leonard's and have never been disappointed in the quality, speed and price of the job done. I would recommend this garage to anyone for repairs! The coupons they send you are also a plus and keep me coming back (although I would anyways). Whenever you don't dread going to the garage for a car problem, that's when you know you've found a great spot. At S. Lamar, ask for Brandon. He will get you set up right!

  • James Kitchen

This place is CROOKED WATCH OUT. My car stalled in downtown Austin. I looked for a repair place that would pick up my car. The call was to Leonard’s but my car was towed to a shop located nearby. Their invoices were Leonard’s. The diagnostic cost twice as much as elsewhere. They said the problem was fuel related and gave me an estimate of $3200. I had my car towed to the Chevrolet Dealership and they diagnosed the problem as my onboard computer and got me back on the road for $250.

  • JRNYMN Apparel

Halfway into a road trip my truck broke down in Austin. A buddy recommended this shop and what a blessing. Jeremy and Jonathon were super helpful. When I finally got into a rental I called and asked if he would wait for me after hours to get some stuff from my truck, which he did. They went above and beyond helping. Although I ended up getting my truck towed back home I'm confident that if their work matches their helpfulness, I'm sure it would be nothing less than Top Notch!!

  • Web Master

Don't go here. While this may have been a good shop previously, I don't think it is today after their move to 1st street. Long story short. They had me spend a lot of money- didn't fix my problem. They were clearly lying to me about more than 1 thing. They said that I needed a new alternator. That 'new' alternator lasted about 2 miles. My car broke down as soon as I left the shop after paying them nearly $3000. The car broke down again after replacing the 2nd alternator.

Leonard’s Garage always takes care of me and I can count on an honest mechanic to let me know if I have any issues that any of our cars need to be addressed. In the auto mechanic repair business it is all about HONESTY. Leonard is a former police officer and his staff and mechanics are honest and professional. We bring all of our cars to Leonard’s Garage although we live 35 miles away at the other end of Travis County- that’s how much we trust these guys!! Kevin Madison

  • Taylor T

I first found Leonard’s a few years ago due to their great Google reviews, and I was not disappointed. They have always been very upfront and honest with me about what repairs I needed and more importantly did not need. I can recall on more than 1 occasion that vehicle issues were so minor, they fixed complementary or advised on what really needed to be done. I can not recommend them enough, just a fantastic local business that truly earns their high praise. Taylor

  • Denise Santos

Some of you may be able to relate to this… As a single woman going into a car shop I don’t always feel comfortable trusting what the car mechanics tell me is wrong with my car. But from the first time that I visited Leonard’s garage I have always had that sense of being able to trust what they’re telling me. I find them to be extremely knowledgeable, professional and courteous. They provide great customer service and I would recommend them.

  • Evan

Quick Service with reliable results. I have been coming to them for over 4 years since I moved here to Austin. This is the second car I have now and they continue to provide quality service most times same day. This time I brought my car in last minute for a oil change and to get new breaks. I brought it in by 9am and they had it ready to go by 4pm not only done but washed and looking good. I would highly recommend them for your automobile.

  • Kami King

Do not waste your time!! They over charge for parts and labor. I paid $540 for a new starter/labor. 3 weeks later my truck wouldn't turn over. Why? The starter was a lemon and they didn't even provide a warranty for the part. I went to a different mechanic. Parts/ Labor - $230. Maybe, if I was an older fair skinned male, they wouldn't have taken advantage of me. I'll never take another vehicle there nor will I ever recommend them to anyone.

  • Dolores Thompson

There's a very good reason someone continues to get their car serviced at the same location for 32 years! Besides the exceptionally wonderful Customer Service, it's knowing that my vehicle will be checked to ensure it is in excellent driving condition. This particular business starts rolling our the red carpet the minute they pick up the phone. Thank you, Jonathan, and Crystal, for the fine service you provided during my last visit.

  • Katy Thom

I went into Leonards as a first-time customer and I could not have been more pleased. Jeremy and Jonathan were very nice and very tentative to my questions and concerns. They did the repairs needed, and I got my car back the same day! Prices were very close to other shops in the area, but they had a great warranty. Plus, I am always willing to pay a little more to get great service. Thanks, guys. I'll be a customer for life!

  • Olivia White

I have always had great experiences at Leonard's. The staff is friendly and the prices and wait times are reasonable. I made the mistake of going elsewhere once because it was more conveniently located to where I live, but I won't be doing that again. The folks at Leonard's don't ever try to get me to pay for extra services while I'm in there and that is something I really appreciate. I would definitely recommend this place.

  • aaron hoes

My friend took her Jeep in to get brakes last year and they looped the brake line through the front coil springs every time she hit a bump it pinch the line and the brake light came on . Luckily it did not get cut in half . I fixed it for her. When she showed the shop owner the pictures. He gave her a free oil change . We just changed the oil and they only put 3 quarts in a motor that takes 7 quartz talk about idiots .

  • Shelby Walters

My father began using Leonard's garage about 12 years ago, and was so pleased with their service, that they became my auto shop, as well. The prices are competitive, they back their work up, and they do the small things that make you feel like a valued customer. I've yet to have a problem with a repair they have made to my car, and they send out specials on occasion that are really special! Huge fan. Give 'em a go

  • Kevin Barbosa

Leonard's Garage, simply put, is phenomenal. Warm, friendly, and knowledgeable, they serviced my car with incredible attention to detail and expertise. I have a bit of an older car, and they were able to diagnose the issues with the vehicle and get it back into great condition within only a few hours. Reasonable price for the level of service performed, would most certainly recommend them to friends or family!

  • E

Great business. Guys are great here. I bring my truck to them when I'm having issues and they always diagnose it to let me know what needs fixing. I'll usually end up doing minor repair work myself to save some $$ and they are respectful of that. I've been to similar shops where they give attitude if you try to do such thing. I recommend all my friends and family to go here. I'll always go to Leonard's first.

  • Raul Rivera

I have had work done by Leonards Automotive for my wife's car in the past. I have always had great customer service and they do a great job on getting my wife's car back on the road. My neighbor Bob Harper recommended Leonards Automotive to me and they've always done a great job. I will continue to recommend Leonards Automotive to my family and friends. Thank you John and JT and all the gang down there.

  • Hans Landel

I took my truck in because it was having starting problems. Diagnosed as a bad battery. Work completed that morning (but of course don't expect the same for you if you have a problem other than replacing a battery). Also found another problem that no one else had found, which was surprising given how obvious it is. Very friendly and professional, and the cost was reasonable. I definitely recommend them.

  • David Dannemiller

I had just arrived in Austin and needed to have a nail removed from a tire. I selected Leonard's based on Google reviews. They did the job the right way (remove tire from rim, repair from inside). While waiting in the office, I got a chance to see mechanics interact with the manager, and the manager interact with customers. Seems like a very professionally run shop. Leonard's is my place in Austin.

  • Sharon Braaten

I’ve been coming here to get my oil changed a few times. The service is always friendly and reasonably fast. Just today, I stopped by to ask if they could help me install a headlight in my Subaru. They did it in 5 minutes and didn’t even charge me a dime! Another place in south Austin tried to charge me $85 to change a lightbulb! I’ll definitely be back to Leonard’s!

  • Stew Steward

If you’re looking for “something” like a Mom & Pop Location this is it but 5x better, they are fast, and places in the area like Lambs & FireStone recommend. I’s things that Corporate places can not do so this place was so helpful to do just as good as job in a faster manner. Total recommended and they offer snacks and something to drink besides 8oz bottle of water.

  • Let's get Lucky

I love Leonard's. I always get great service and my truck back quickly. I used to only go to the dealer, but they would often keep my truck for weeks. Leonard's has never had my truck for more than 3 days, and that was for a really big repair. The guys up front are great and the shop is always clean even though they are always busy. Can't say enough good things.

  • Kate O.

Leonard's is fantastic - I won't go anywhere else! They are honest, friendly, helpful, professional, and do a great job on my cars. I've popped by with questions here and there and they always make time to check things out and NEVER try to sell me on a service I don't need. They go out of their way to go above and beyond and I can't recommend them highly enough.

  • Richard Taylor

UPDATE: This issue was eventually satisfactorily resolved! *(Thank you for the reply, Leonard --- But I have not heard back from anyone yet.)* We took our 2009 Highlander in for alternator failure. So far, several months down the road, our truck is running as designed again! However, we were told a AAA Discount would be applied to our invoice --- but it was not.

  • Manuel Gomez

Got my car done here and these are some honest mechanics. I work on my own cars but couldn’t work on it this time because I was missing some tools and didn’t have the time to wait on ordering them to get what I needed done. These folks over here took care of my car. Definitely recommend these guys and I’m more them happy to help them out with a positive review!

  • Donna Triplett

For over 20 years, we have been going to Leonard's Garage for auto repairs. The founders were honest, hard-working people that set a foundation of honesty and integrity. The next generation has carried on those values and traditions. Take it in, get it fixed - and it's done right the first time! Courteous and capable - We just won't go anywhere else. Beth

  • Roger Horner

From when you first arrive on the premises, I felt relief wash over me when the gentleman inside took all of my info and problems and gave me a brief overlook of what may or may not need to be fixed. Within a few hours, I had everything fixed and have had no trouble since then. Good, reliable, trustworthy people work here, which is very difficult to find.

  • Jan Pitman

I walked in off the street with a tire issue. They took me in immediately, diagnosed a leak, and patched the tire for $30. The staff was friendly, inviting and did not try to sell me additional repairs (which is great being a single female). I would definitely take my car back and trust them to do the right thing... it's also neat that it's family owned.

  • Jack Wall

I have been using Leanard's for over 15 years and cannot say enough good things about them. I routinely go in for an oil change and appreciate the extra service they give. I think it's a 40 point check list plus they lube all the fittings and rotate my tires. I can't even buy the oil and filter for what they charge me to do an oil change. Thanks Jason.

  • Andi Thierry

I showed up just before 6 PM closing with all the warning lights flashing in my car. Everyone at Leonard's was extremely helpful in getting me on my way that night, and then swiftly diagnosing the problem and contacting the dealer to get it addressed under warranty. I was very impressed with the level of care at Leonard's and will definitely return.

  • drew lyon

Really friendly and helpful. I've got an old VW bus, which some place are reluctant to work on, but one of the guys here has one himself, and so he was excited and knew a lot about it. I got a full tune up and some other maintenance stuff, then drove it from Austin to Richmond, Virginia. It's starting up and running better than ever. Thanks!

  • Randy Bogdon

These guys are AWESOME!!!! Jeremy, Jonathan, Brandon and the rest of the crew. Honest and fast. Saved us THOUSANDS on our Jeep when another shop was telling us we needed much more than we actually did. We take all of our vehicles here. They restored my faith in repair shops…. Well, at least this one! Thanks again guys! See you next time.

  • Christina Mayne

I am a native to South Austin, and this is true of our family’s favorite locally-owned business for vehicle service and repair, Leonard’s garage. I grew up with my Granny and aunts bringing her car here and I know they gave good service for decades, and all of my experiences have been great here, too! Highly recommended!

  • JoAnna Grafton-Cardwell

Great service, fair prices, and honest recommendations. I appreciated Brian’s updates and open communication about what needed to be done and what could wait. I got an oil change and some other repairs, and I walked feeling good about having chosen Leonard’s. I’ll definitely be taking my car(s) back there in the future.

  • brandon phillips

Had a great experience with Leonard's! Had a tail light out and some heater issues. They did fast work and found out I was losing coolant, due to a stretched head gasket seal, which was causing the heater not to work. Very professional environment and staff. JT was great and extremely helpful. Will definitely be back.

  • Lynn LeFave

I have been a customer at Leonard's for about 15 years. Now I live up in Georgetown and I STILL take my car down to South Austin for all my automotive needs. I take my parents car as well. Jason and the staff take excellent care of my car, are always at or below the estimated price. I would not go anywhere else.

  • Dat Hoang

Best place on earth. Both Jeremy and Jonathan treated me with the respect that I hope for when using a business! Prices were much cheaper than quoted from 2 other local shops and half of the dealer quote. I'll definitely be back for all future repairs. 100% recommend for all repairs and service. Thanks again!

  • Kelsey Newkham

These guys always go above and beyond to provide exceptional and timely service. We bought tires from them two weeks ago and ran over a nail, so we had to take our car in. After twenty minutes, they had fixed the flat and ran our car through the wash voluntarily. I am constantly impressed by their service!

  • G T

Temperature gauge showed potential issue. I took to Leonard's, described the problem, and let them do their diagnostics. They put the coolant system under a lot of stress/pressure but could not replicate the temperature gauge issue. They did Not charge me for this diagnostic testing. That's honest service.

  • Burrell Williams

I needed to replace instrument bezel in my 1990 GMC pick-up plus two other key parts that needed to be ordered. Leonard's Garage team was so helpful making sure my vehicle was done right.Craig was the lead technician solved my problem plus showed extreme interest in my satisfaction of his work.

  • Jackie ward

I won't take my car anywhere else again! Professional, efficient, caring, and super helpful. Saved my vacation. Couldn't get new tires anywhere in a pinch, and these guys came through and eased my mind. Ordered them, and next morning put them on with an hour wait only. I could not be happier.

  • Shari Farrell

Leonards is the only automobile repair shop I feel I can completely trust. They always offer detailed guidance on what is wrong with my vehicle, what I must have done immediately and what should be done so that I can work within my budget. True family owned business run by honest people.

  • Dillon Wright

Very positive experience. Showed up here after an exhausting few days at work. No sleep in ages. Friendly staff took care of everything and had plenty of coffee! Gave me a reasonable quote and the final bill came in below that. Definitely going here again for anything my car needs.

  • Christopher Francis

I've been coming to Leonard's for quite a few years now and we've been happy with our experiences. I honestly feel like they shoot me straight every time. They don't pressure you and don't try to up sell or sneak in useless charges and work. I trust them with my vehicle every time!

  • KC Sherman

Very helpful and clear in communications. I once visited and was welcomed by Leonard personally. We chatted throughout the entirety of my appointment, it was such a pleasant encounter. Originally came here via a recommendation from a friend and it has been my garage since then.

  • TOI DELAROSA

I had them do a complete check. Up and give me a detailed list of what my car needs and individual pricing I appreciate the fact that they did not pressure me into fixing it right then and there put gave me a priority in which I should get it fixed I would recommend them highly

  • terry hardin

Took my toyota in to get tires and oil change. i was in and out in less than an hour and 45 minutes and was less expencive than three other shop in the area, great staff of people and a great feeling knowing you are shopping in a true locally owned buisiness. Thank you guys

  • Emma Denning

Always great service at Leonard's. I have been a loyal customer for 4 years and even though they're under new ownership, it's still great service. I've always been able to trust them with my car, Brian was kind enough to give me a free oil change this holiday season!!

  • elin tucker

Leonard's on S. 1st St is awesome. I bring my car in because it is telling me a low beam headlight isn't working. I give him the keys . He goes out, comes back and says "No charge" when I was about to take out the light, it turned on." or words to that effect.

  • Dan Reynolds

Leonard's did a great job communicating with me about the work I had done on my 2001 Honda Civic. While I'm frustrated with my car's breakdowns, they are very good about getting me back on the road quickly and efficiently. I'm happy to call myself a customer.

  • Kelsey Love

Thanks, Leonard's Garage! Everyone was so friendly, especially Brandon. They fixed my brakes by the time I got off of work when I had just dropped off my car that morning. They were very helpful and I would recommend this place to anyone. Thanks, y'all!

  • Arlan

Leonard's Garage was awesome! They diagnosed and fixed my complicated AC problem on the first try for less than another shop was going to charge me. Communication was great and they were very professional. I will be back next time I need anything!

  • Allan Dehoff

Unbelievable experience from start to finish! The guys there are professional and prices are competitive and above all they treat you with respect and compassion! Love this place and will always use them for all of my automotive needs!

  • Peggy Parks

Leonard's Garage staff are GREAT! They are very friendly and professional. Being my first time at Leonard's I found the service to be excellent and will certainly continue to take my vehicle to their garage for service and repair.

  • Courtney Zauft

We use Leonard’s for all our car needs-from basic oil changes to replacing our radiator. They take the time to explain any diagnostic and answer all questions. They do fantastic work, and we’re so appreciative of all their help!
