"To say this is "free" is a bit misleading"
"My mom loves light houses and we are from illinois"
"I'm giving this a 5, because this little "often forgotten" lighthouse needs some love"
"The Milneburg Lighthouse brought back so many wonderful memories for mom when she used to live near Pontchartrain Beach back in the early 60s"
"Not able to fully rate this since security stopped me right as the lighthouse was visible (Sunday 10am) and told me it was private property"
To say this is "free" is a bit misleading. We were told by security that we couldn't be parked here, as it is private property. So, keep that in mind if you want to go. If you are like me, and wanting to photograph it, there are a couple of things to note. There is a hurricane fence around the lighthouse, approximately 10ft from the base. You won't get great shots of it without that sad fencing. You also will not be getting any of the lake or "beach" in the shots. There is a concrete levy wall that blocks all access and visibility of the lake. This is an easy drive for us, we live relatively close and spend a lot of time in New Orleans. But, unless you are a serious lighthouse enthusiasts, I wouldn't suggest you bother going to see this if you don't have time to kill. There isn't anything to see or do at this site. It's a lot of odd roads to spend less than 1 minute. And security is going to run you off.

My mom loves light houses and we are from illinois. This is the first time she ever saw one up close and the security guard ran us off. Well attempted. I told him we would leave once she got a picture and to go on about his day. He's a security guard he meant nothing to me and had no authority over us. Get your pictures! And move on! However the people who now own this land need to take into consideration that people deserve to see historical land marks! We don't care about them!

I'm giving this a 5, because this little "often forgotten" lighthouse needs some love. The other reviews are correct. It is on private property, and you do have to view it from the nearby road, and the security guards can be rude sometimes. However, if you are a lighthouse lover like me, you have to make this short drive over from the New Canal lighthouse to see this important piece of history before it may be gone forever.
The Milneburg Lighthouse brought back so many wonderful memories for mom when she used to live near Pontchartrain Beach back in the early 60s. It was also a bit sad for her to see how things have changed in that area since back in the amusement park days. We were not bothered at all by security while visiting the lighthouse even though they did pass us by. Took a few quick photos.

Not able to fully rate this since security stopped me right as the lighthouse was visible (Sunday 10am) and told me it was private property. They were not having it even if it's a historic site. Maybe the next time I roll through here they'll be more lenient.
Nice old lighthouse surrounded by hyper-secure, quasi-governmental facilities. Can't really get near it unless you have a boat. And then you'll end up on the no-fly list. Sadly, its best to avoid. FYI, this used to be the site of an amusement park.
You can't get near it. It's about 175 feet from the spot on the road at which you can view it. Also it's disrespectfully fenced off with a temporary type chain link fence which is unfitting for what it is.
If you are considering going here you should be aware that I was told by security that I couldn't even take a photo because it's private property. So go at your own risk.
You have to look at lighthouse from the road otherwise the rude security guard comes out and tells you you're not allowed to walk on the grass..no signs posted
Within 2 seconds i was asked to leave by someone whose job is apparently to sit there and make sure people don't look at the lighthouse. Useful.
I admit I do not know the history of the place, but it's basically a miniature light house in the middle of a business park, so.... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Cool location, but the area is closed to the public. Very sad. This beach could be a great city attraction, with some TLC.
This lighthouse used to be quite far out on Lake Ponchatrain, and they filled the lake so much, it is now inland!
リサーチテクノロジーパークの中にある古い灯台。写真撮影は可能ですが。セキュリティ上芝生の中に入る事ができません。入ると警備員に注意されます。目の前にバス停があるので、ダウンタウンから30分ほどで移動出来ます。
We were playing Pokemon go and the guard rolled up and yelled that we couldn't take pics …
Its fenced off. Couldnt access it anymore as the university owns it now. I was disappointed.
Lot-a-bit disappointed. I almost got the impression they're trying to hide it.
Stopped by Security. Wouldn't let us view it. Waste of time.
Unfortunately it is becoming more a sewer than a river …
Security stopped us. So we couldn't see it. Bummer.
It was a cool place to swim in the lake
Great view of the lake from up there.
You need to see it from the water.
It's not really there anymore.
Nice view of the lake and uno
It's a gorgeous landmark.
