Booking online is essential, and if you do you get a free annual pass. However, the tickets are very expensive for this type of attraction (adult £17.95 and child £15.95!!) And they also want to charge £4.00 for parking. It is good inside, there are several small galleries to look around in with interactive elements and some videos that you can sit and watch. It would be very good for children 5-12 in my opinion, anyone older would benefit from an interest in space prior to visiting. The rocket tower is very warm, even on a cold day so I would avoid this during the summer or if you are prone to fainting fits or overheating. The timeline of information and events in the tower stops well before 2000, this seems a misstep - surely there have been significant events since then? There is some mention of Mars Rovers and JWT in the galleries however. As we went on a weekday there were several schools trips, while this is to be expected it did diminish the overall experience due to the relatively small size of the centre. We did not stop for food, there is a small cafe as expected is overpriced but the main drag is a 15-20 minute walk and there are several Indian/Nepalese places, we stopped at Everest Parkikar which was excellent. I hear the planetarium is very good but we did not get a chance to see this, and as we also did not sit for the videos our visit lasted maybe 3.5hrs at most. I imagine with children that want to try and see everything it could be a 4-5hr experience. Accessibility; the attraction is fully wheelchair accessible with lifts to upper levels, although they can get crowded.

Really enjoyed our visit for my eldest Son's birthday. There were plenty of people there but it was easy to get around, and some of the most popular displays (interactive ones) just had a small wait to use them. Lots of interesting things to see and a lot of information to read. We watched the Astronaut show, which was good but felt a bit dated. I work in interactive entertainment and with modern tech you could do some really cool stuff (like the ISS VR experiences). Kids enjoyed it but weren't terribly interested in reading everything like I was. We went as a group with our five kids, so it was an expensive day travelling down from Yorkshire, but it's nice to know our ticket is valid for a year so we might re-visit given the chance. Was slightly disappointed there were no drinking water stations anywhere. Had to queue up at the cafe for ten minutes just to get our water bottles refilled. There's an interactive launc/control-room area which we queued for, but it takes 5+ minutes for each group in there. You're given no estimation of how long the wait will be from the staff, and we queued for 25 minutes for it. Overall though I loved the displays and information about the planets of our solar system, and particularly liked the Russian floor showing the history of their space program, and the one above it all about the Apollo missions. Highly recommend visiting even if you know a lot about space. Definitely book your tickets in advance. We visited on a Friday in April and they were fully booked so you likely can't just turn up on the day and expect to get in.

I was quite disappointed with this museum Countless exhibitions partially broken, interactive aspects not working and quite dated in areas The Lego exhibitions distracted from the museum itself in places which was a shame as we'd assumed it would be in one area alone not interspersed in exhibits but they were enjoyable nonetheless The lack of any current space things such as spacex information was a shame as this is the sort of thing that would get children engaged in current space exploration and technology and bring the relevance forward. Perhaps a small exhibition or info area about it if you can't afford a revamp entirely Really enjoyed how detailed your exhibits were that were there just feel like it desperately needs upgrades and fixes so it doesn't feel so bedraggled. Ticket prices were high for what you get but the free annual upgrade negated this feeling Shop prices were frankly disgusting and felt a little exploitative as things such as the bright engaging plushies that kids would automatically be drawn to were similar costs to build a bear (£24.99 being the cheapest for a small one other than the t-shirt bears). I get you need to make money somehow but the prices just seemed excessive on top of the cost of food and tickets especially when the expensive stuff is mostly the kid focused stuff. Luckily we had the disposable income to meet most requests but I know we are the exception and I feel for parents who aren't so lucky Staff were lovely and polite can't fault customer service at all

First, I must say that the over the phone customer service is also included in this review. One of the only places I have visited in a very long time, where everyone is professional and smiling. From the lovely gentlemen out in the car park (and also in the scorching sun) to the last person we dealt with on the way out (regarding a query). I booked online and that gives you free return visits for the year! Inside was amazing! We spent hours looking around and stopped to eat our packed lunch - plenty of spotlessly clean tables and also for hot drinks, which are all reasonably priced. The menu looked very reasonable and if it was me and my husband then we’d definitely eat there. Loads to do and see but I must say for me, the planetarium experience was superb! As was Alex (I think), who delivered the information. When I return, I’ll do the same one again as the experience was just brilliant! I think every member of staff looked happy to be in their job. So lovely to see these days. Excellent value for money too with the return ticket. One of the best days out that I’ve had.

Took my 10 year old daughter here who is becoming very interested in astronomy. Lots of hands on things to try like landing a lunar module to matching facts to the relevant astronaut etc. One thing I would recommend is the interactive experience called tetrastar spaceport you take part in a mission to Mars and have to collect samples and escape the planet in 5 incredibly well themed areas including inside a spaceship all with the help of an "actor" to guide you..kids get involved in collecting samples and carrying "Ada" definitely have to try it..I'll say nothing more about that. Food prices decent 3.50 for a hot dog.. coffee nice, gift shop has everything from branded pens to expensive pajamas at 35.99 !!!! You must also visit the planetarium for an incredibly detailed talk about Jupiter's and it's 4 moons and the solar system in general.. separate 20 min talk about Jupiter also worth a visit too. Large rockets to see and a glass lift to go up in with more details on 3 more floors about the moon etc..ticket valid for 12 months to revisit for free.. highly recommend

Really like this place with the kids, we got a family ticket in Jan and you get to upgrade free to an annual pass so we’ve been loads, it’s good for all ages, my 3 year old and I go the most. It’s good for a hour or you can stretch it the day with the kids. None of us get tired of going up the rocket stages. There are loads of fascinating things to look at interact with and read, we go a lot and always find something new. You can take your own sandwiches and eat at their tables, when it’s busy they open up multiple lunch halls and seem very accommodating. The coffees and hot drinks are very nice and reasonably priced, the food is limited. The toddler days are very good with activities and sing songs and the like, be warned some of the days are premium and you won’t get in with an annual pass. The shop has some good bits for under a fiver for the kids with the pens, pencils, badges and things like that, there are some expensive things as well. A good trip out with the kids.

Absolutely brilliant and a firm favourite with our family for generations. Regularly bring friends from overseas there and all without exception are most impressed. So much knowledge to be found there and in brilliantly accessible and interactive forms. My most recent visit was with a 15-month old so I wasn't sure if she would find it interesting but there are so many levels of interest that babies and younger toddlers have plenty to enjoy. The riverbed floor projection was a favourite, as well as the Columbus module with all the little switches to flick. I was also most impressed with facilities for parents, accessible toilet and baby change room, which made the visit stress free. Lovely cafe with plenty seating. Very friendly staff. Great little shop too. We regularly enjoy planetarium shows which are absolutely worth the £3 per person or so additional cost. After one visit you get a yearly general pass with subsequent visits free, just remember that tickets for those need to be booked in advance online.

  • András Fésüs

A really reasonably priced, well-organised and fun visitor experience. Staff are very helpful and polite. The exhibition itself is very informative, lots of objects and stories. The place can get pretty busy in school holidays, so avoid it then if you can. The planetarium show is great, don't miss it! There is plenty of seating behind the catering facilities. The choice of food is enough, something for everyone - a selection of sandwiches, jacket potatoes, etc with vegan and vegetarian options, not Michelin star level but decent and reasonably priced, even for visitor attractions. Although the centre is kind of tucked away in what looks like a bit of an industrial estate/business park, it has ample parking nearby. And I left the best thing for last! You buy a ticket and it is valid for a whole year, it is an annual pass! Bargain!

Rude parking attendant. Not sure if him or she, as didn't look as either. Ended up following me and my friend like a weirdo. Threatening me that I will be banned from entering for telling it to "jog on" when I didn't want to be followed. It tried to enforce their authority, like if it had any. Absolutely disgraceful behaviour. Focus on directing cars, not on harrasing people. Ref. Your reply: Your security was aware I am filming them, so was your Security Manager the person was going to see. Also this person was following me, not assisting anyone else, as stated in your reply, so don't bend the facts. Upon repeated requests to leave me alone the person still kept talking in a threatening voice and kept following us. The person needs to get a life and focus on what they are there for. Absolutely pathetic reply... Down to 1 star.

So after issues with the booking experience and trying to get through on the phone, the staff communicated very quickly through email which helped with the booking process. Arrived on the and entry was smooth. The weather was lovely and there was a nice atmosphere. On entry the café wasn't busy so a quick snack the off to the planetarium show (must watch). Then following the show it's to look around at your leisure. It takes roughly 3 hours in my estimation to go around. The kids loved it with the interactive sections, of which there are many. There's so much information too so if you wanted to take your time reading you have the time to. The sun was out so the top floor felt very hot with the bubbled dome. There were fans on but didn't make much of a difference. A very good day out and will be returning again

Came in the afternoon time to avoid being busy. Straight in on arrival. Given a map and staff briefly explain for you. Spacious downstairs, lots of different interactive buttons to press for kids. Pictures and costumes with signs explaining everything. Information facts across the walls. When going upstairs it got quite busy and really hot, especially when waiting for the lifts. Didn't stay up there long as it was quite a small space so wasn't as interesting as the main stuff downstairs. It is good to visit on a rainy day for something to do inside. Was also given a free pass to come back as we booked online. Would probably come back. Long ques to come inside the shows, so didn't bother with that. There is also a cafe for food and drinks and a little shop for gifts.

Been a few times, admittedly to the Steampunks in Space event, but always enjoy going have been a space buff from early Apollo flights. Lots to see, although probably not for very small children. Could do with more seating scattered around, including outside as it's quite a walk from car park & the lifts are awkward if you have mobility issues or a push-chair (you have to get off on the 1st floor and walk along to a different lift & that's not easy on crutches & with few places to rest). The queue to get in was also horrendous, despite having pre-booked tickets. There is a cafe & food options are limited but service was very slow, although it was busy. Having said that, it's an interesting & enjoyable place & we will be back.

Brilliant museum. Stacks to see, too much for one visit. Especially impressed by the planetarium show (I booked for the inclusive 'astronaut' film), really like being in space. Recommend buying advance ticket (it's a pound cheaper and you are automatically upgraded to free admittance for a year). Lots of interactive stuff if you have children in tow. About 25 mins walk through Abbey Park, from St Margarets bus/coach station. Your nearest pub is the Tom Hoskins about 10 mins walk further on (you can expect a few real ales). Opposite is Abbey Pumping House Museum which also deserves your attention. I'm visiting that on another trip up to Leicester. Thanks to staff at the museum and anyone who finds my review helpful x

I took my 3.5 year old child and he loved it. There was almost to much to take in for him. Although he can’t read most of the displays yet he still had a fantastic time interacting with the different areas around the space centre. There is a large ground floor area with a cafe and some different sections to explore, this ground floor has the Patrick Moore planetarium which is well worth a visit, sit in the middle seats for the best experience. There are 4 floors that can be accessed via stairs or lifts, all with excellent displays for all ages. £18.95 for a adult ticket, under 5s free and that ticket allows you to re visit for upto 12 months for free again. Car park is £4 for the full day. Great value for money.

Amazing. Visited here in the spare of the moment and I have to say it was great. The staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful. As a disabled person using mobility aids the staff couldn’t do enough to help me or my family. The planetarium is just the best, jaw dropping doesn’t even come close to describing the experience. The exhibits are detailed with the information they provide, the interactive experience of most of the exhibits is great for all ages. As a family eating and drinking whilst out can be expensive but the prices here are reasonable and the food is really good quality. I would highly recommend visiting here and I for one will definitely be returning in the near future.

I had low expectations when I decided to visit with my wife and 2 and 5 year old children. Don't get me wrong the kids are slightly too young to appreciate this place. However I was not prepared for how I would react. As soon as I walk in I see the Soyuz hanging there right above me. I'm 33 and I suddenly felt 9 again. I turned straight into that excited child. I have not felt like that for a long long time. To come so close to such amazing things that have been into space was spine tingling. Well worth the price of entry and you get a free year pass if you book online. I will be returning maybe childless next time so I can read every last inch of the place. Stunning day out!

First time visiting here and I wasn't disappointed. There was so many information & interactive displays to hand, I found the cafe was a tad expensive but I wasn't prepared to let that spoil my visit. We had been told (via other reviews) that you could spend all day here, I think that it's a bit of a stretch to say "all day" but it's definitely a good few hours. The planetarium was really informative and I liked it very much, but my wife has vertigo and found it almost unbearable so visitors with any form of similar affliction be aware. All in all this visit was "out of this world"

My expectations for this were pretty low, however it ended up being really very interesting and a wonderful insight into the rigorous measures astronauts have to go through, understanding the technology behind rockets, shuttles and what one needs to be able to cope in space. I found the astronaut profiles to be a really sobering experience and it puts into perspective how small we are. Quite profound, and hope to return again soon. Oh, if you book online, your ticket gets upgraded to an annual pass for the year! Worth it if you're doing repeat visits in future. The 4D video was a good experience too! Recommended.

Spectacular, amazing and absolutely loved it. from granny to the kids we all had an amazing day. What more can I say. loved the interactive activities and the planetarium. This place is so informative and interesting that I would definitely go back many more times. This is a place that cannot be missed. Make sure you go and you were guaranteed a brilliant time. excellent value for money and the cafe was excellent and cheap compared to other attractions. even though it was half term it was busy but not too busy and noisy

The Space Centre in Leicester was not my choice for a day out but I felt compelled to go and explore as it's on my doorstep. There is plenty to see there and although not my cup of tea I could see thousands of people would disagree and loved it, the car park was large but it was rammed. Children of all ages I could see were captivated by this place which has got to be a good thing , broadening their imagination, plenty of interactive stuff to mess around with. Well done to all the helpful and well informed staff you're doing a great job

Needed longer really and didn't realise that it closed at 4pm so didn't get to see the rocket experience. There was a fault with their card readers at the tills so was either cash or paper card details. Small cafeteria inside with sandwiches and hot snacks The planetarium was good but we had a party of French students in with us who didn't have the manners to orderly queue and neither staff nor teachers stopped them. Many school children there too so it was a little noisy at times. Car park is a flat £4.

Excellent museum filled with many things to see, many of them interactive! Restaurant was very reasonably priced, limited menu but the food was good. Amenities are clean and easy to use. Ideal for a day out with the kids. You can sit down to eat beneath the full size rockets that tower above you.. one even simulates its engines firing up with lights and smoke.. kids love it! Check out the pumping station museum just across from the space center.. it's free entry, so you can do 2 museums in one go!

The cleanliness of the place and toilets are up to standard. They have a little restaurant were you can grab something quick to eat or drink. The souvenir shop has some interesting stuff. The parking is not free, is pay and display. NOTE: Even if you have a annual ticket is best to book your visit.

Much more to see here than we expected! The different levels and how everything was displayed made the experience more cohesive. We were a couple visiting, but could see there is plenty to keep little ones occupied - even dressing up costumes. We went to one of the shows in the auditorium, about the night sky, which was beautifully presented. The cafe offered a range of food, and at surprisingly low prices. The entrance price, though, is quite high (in my opinion), but you can revisit during the year.

Fabulous place with a ton of knowledge. I think it is too much space to cover in one day. Because it was a Bank Day weekend, it seemed a little bit overcrowded at one point. I think next time we visit the place we will do it during the week so it will give us the whole spectrum of emotions. Highly recommend visiting the Planetarium. This was the cherry on the top of the cake for, as we left it for the end of our visit. It was totally worth it. I highly recommend visiting National Space Center

Absolutely amazing. So good for the money. We went at around 11.30am and explored the first floor and them went upstairs. The girls then had lunch. They have lots of ta les and can take lunch from home or buy something from the cafe. We then watched a show in the planetarium. They have activities I the live arena at certain times which the kids loved. If you buy tickets online ots cheaper and at the moment there's an offer where you can visit all year for free from date of purchase.

Looking for something to do with our 8 year old during half term, we booked the National Space Center in Leicester, and it's a good job we did, it was soon fully booked. We got our slot for the planetarium show, which although not very interesting (sorry!) It was very comfy. We the got to spend the next few hours learning, and playing, which kept kids of all ages engaged. Going upstairs, there was plenty to do and the highlight for us was the ability to launch our son into space, talk to him, and help him solve some errors to come back down!

I was just amazed about this place! the tickets a bit pricey, but definitely worth it! this place offers a quite a big variety of all kind of space stuff! from: rocks, big telescope, space sims, short documentary movies, astronaut space suits, space capsules, space rockets, planetarium etc... definitely a must place to visit! especially with your families, and your small ones! very interesting, unique, and scientifically rich place to explore! 10/10.

Small space day with Mrs Claus We had a great day. All the staff are so nice and helpful. On the way to Mrs Claus was magical. Mrs Claus and elf were so nice. Elfs at the live science show are enthusiastic and fun. My 3 year old had a great time. Crafts stalls are helpful. Nacho and drinks are great. Overall, the place is clean and tidy. Great interactive activities all around. Flying christmas tree is a plus. Again, thank you so much.

Love this place (3rd time already), a great stop off on our way up north. Lots to see and do, the planetarium is great, lots of fun in the interactive sections for all ages. The cafe has very decent food, it's not gourmet but has a good selection at decent prices. Book online and get to go all year round, so we stopped off on the way back down south. Brilliant way to spend the day - so much to see! I went with my 4 and 7 years old children. The 4 year old might be a bit young to understand some parts but there was enough interactive activities for him to do, so he enjoyed the visit. We will definitely be back on a quieter day (we visited on a cloudy Saturday, during the Summer holidays) to see the show in the planetarium and have more time to read all the explanations.

What a fantastic day out. We spent 6 hours there and did not see everything. The planetarium is a must do and the kids and adults will enjoy the lecture on how rockets work (bangs and flashes). There are many interactive displays and lots of information about the space time line. The parking is only £3. for the day and the cafeteria was not too expensive but you can take your own snacks and drink.

The staff were helpful and everything well organised. I don't think this attraction gets enough credit, thanks for a great day.

Could have spent a couple of days here. My daughter booked it for father's day and we went with my 2 year old granddaughter. She loved it and so did I. I was worried it would be a little care worn but it was spotless and everything worked fine. Also, last but not least, the planetarium show was breathtaking.

Great experience at national space center, quite informative and knowledgeable experience at the center to learn more about the space exploration. The graphics used during then planetarium was amazing to show the efforts of us and Russia toward moon expedition., overall recommended to all the parents to take their children for a day tour at the center to get inspired toward space activities

Took my son for his Birthday, from start to finish it was fantastic. Staff was really friendly and very professional. The place was lovely and clean, and lot's to learn and see. Also if you book online you get 12 months free as well so you can visit many times as you want. You want more then 4 hours to look at everything, more then 4 floors to explore.

Great centre for kids. So many of the displays are interactive. The planetarium is very impressive and the interactive experience/ride was a lot of fun for the older kids. Lots of great information about space and the planet/environment. Not the biggest space, but we still didn’t manage to see everything in as much detail as we would have liked in our 5 hour visit.

  • Wendy May Elizabeth Carter

Very interesting but tiring. Children were noisy and some were too young to appreciate it. Adult only days would be good. The planetarium was good but couldn't hear the commentary properly because of the resonance. Thecafé choices not really big enough but reasonably priced.

Fantastic day out, that good we upgraded to get an annual pass. I don't know who was more excited me or the kids. Plenty to see, lots of interactive stuff available for the kids. Gift shop & restaurant reasonably priced & the staff were approachable & friendly. Even though it was half term it was not as crowded as I dreaded beforehand.

Not one for writing reviews, but this place definitely deserves one. Me, my wife and kids 14 and 11 had a fantastic time here spent 6 hours there so much to do. We loved the planetarium and all the other interactive activities. Well worth a visit

Overall I would say it was a good experience because the kids loved it. Lots and lots to look at. My kids are under 5 so they were free. But if they were over 5 it's £15 that's alot of money I personally feel for just walking around mainly .

What a gem of a visitor centre perfect for kids of all ages. Staff were great and the facility is very well managed. Worth the entry price and food was available at very reasonable prices or plenty of space pardon the pun to eat your own. Would thoroughly recommend.

Amazing place to visit. We have been back 6 times over the course of the year thanks to the annual pass. The place is educational and entertaining for everyone. There is plenty to explore and I've lost count of how many trips we've had on the tetrastar. Would definetly recommend to anyone thinking of going. More

Such a good day out! Me and my partner spent a good full day here and loved it. We'll definitely be coming back! There's so much to see, loads of interaction in the entire place and the planetarium was mind blowing. Also the food is tasty and really well priced. Would recommend this place to anyone!

Really interesting and interactive museum. Great for kids, if you've not got kids then the school tours on a weekday can be tiring. The planetarium was amazing. Smaller than I was expecting but well laid out.

Really good experience. Would recommend getting there as soon as it opens as it gets busy later in the day. Fully wheelchair accessible but one of the flight experiences flight to the moon is tight to get about, but it is no problem. Really good experience not to be missed.

Excellent place to inspire folks, especially children, to become interested in science, space, and achievement. However, the displays could stand to be updated. Rheae fields xhange so rapidly that you need to update at least once every three years.

Terrible booking experience. Advanced booking for annual passes is STILL not working - it’s been non-functional all year. It’s makes the promise of being able to visit multiple times a pretty empty one, as pre-booking is essential. Get it fixed.
