In early December 2022, a neurologist requested me to spend a night at Garden City, to conduct a halter EEG, an MRI, and an overnight sleep study. On the first evening, scheduled for the halter EEG, the evening shift ward staff switched off the EEG, and in the afternoon of the next day when the results were due, there were no results. I therefore had to stay another day, to repeat the EEG. On the morning of the second day, the nursing staff tried to prep me for theater (twice) despite me explaining to them that I was not due for theater. They also did not know how to complete the patient observation report, and asked me to show them how to do it. On both nights, visitor protocols were not observed, and visitors continued to enter and leave all day. Lights out protocols were not observed either, and - during a sleep study - lights remained on until late in the evening. Attempts to randomly prepare me for theater continued throughout my time in hospital. On the second day, I was due for an MRI. Being aware that I would have to prepare for a halter EEG in the afternoon, I asked the nursing staff whether they had booked the MRI to occur before that. They ignored me. Eventually, I phoned the neurologist's office myself and asked them to arrange the MRI. They called the ward staff and arranged an MRI. When the MRI staff came to collect me, the ward staff lied and told them that they had been unable to schedule it because they "couldn't find a wheelchair". I walked to the MRI and conducted it. The MRI staff informed me that they had never been informed. On the evening of the second day, the second sleep study (assisted by a CPAP machine) needed to be conducted. I was informed that this would occur at 17h00. At 19h00, I forced the issue and called the sleep study researcher myself. She had not been informed and arrived with her husband, clearly coming from an event. Once again no visiting protocols were observed, visitors continued to enter and exit all night, and lights stayed on. At 21h00, the nurses provided caffeinated tea to the ward. (During a sleep study.) At no point during any of this was I attended to by a doctor. After the first day, no further attendance was provided by the ward staff. On the last day, I booked myself out. This is inarguably the single worst medical and/or hospital experience of my life, and if I was given that option of returning to Garden City or dying, I would give serious thought to dying.

Whoever says this hospital is good please don't talk lies. This is the worst private hospital in the whole of Joburg. İf you want to die or let your family member die feel free to admit them here. Took them 2 hours telling me there's no bed available. Finally there's a bed available and viola i enter a empty ward. The doctor whom i dealt with told me that i am gonna be permanently paralysed. They wanted to do a op and cut my nerves and not save me. My friends dad was admitted here also and was across me. They kept on opening his spine and his fluid was coming out. They were keep on milking his medical aid just to make money. The state of this hospital from what is was in the early 2000s has dropped significantly. The toilet in my ward was so disgusting, worse than a public hospital. The shower was full of mould and the lady that cleans never even cleaned it properly. İ had 3 days of hell here. One morning İ took a walk downstairs and saw a family swearing at reception saying their baby was cut and bleeding even. How can this be a private hospital? The service is worse than a public hospital. Gone are the days when doctors and nurses swore by the oath. This hospital only wants money. Please don't waste your time here. Here i am 5 months later, did my op at Milpark and got the best 5 star service from the doctors to the nurses and I'm in one piece, NOT paralyzed. And i stayed in the old ward and it was clean and perfect. İ will never come to Garden city ever again. İf there was a 0 star. İ would have given it 0. İt's not even worth a 1 star rating.

My family have not had good service at this facility (Garden City) and we now opt for Mulbarton or Milpark. Only reason to use is that there is a lot of acceptance and facilities for Muslims like Halal catering and Doctors who know and respect certain religious boundaries. OUR Reasons for rejecting it range from: (1) a car being damaged in the parking lot and no security footage or assistance from the facility, (2) being treated for dehydration with a drip when it was something much more severe and required two months treatment. In addition, the responding (foreign) doctor not being contactable afterwards for a sick note. After multiple attempts = Salary deduction for leave without a sick note (3) Patient passing out in the hall in front of 3 nurses and nurses don't care, someone else had to assist, (4) Bad attitude and talking down by a Senior Nurse when My mum was admitted and a nurse said I could assist her and sit with her, (5) Inconsistently applied rules depending on patients status, (6) Billing If you have Medical Aid, These doctors will run every test and refer every Doctor friend and family member of theirs to you while you are admitted. As a patient it is not always possible to diagnose or know what these doctors are doing and whether it is relevant or necessary. We have given this facility multiple chances but they fail again and again.

It's sad to pay every month for medical aid and receive a service that is worse than a public hospital. I was highly disappointed with the service at Garden City and at how unprofessional the nurses were. I had a miscarriage and it was regarded as non emergency, they messed up at casualty and assigned me to a gynecologist that isn't mine after I clearly told them who my gynecologist is. The gynecologist who was on call didn't attend to me as I was not her patient and was told that the one that works with my gynecologist who was on standby has left and will not return to assist me because I am not a P1 case. At that point I am bleeding heavily but I am not considered as an emergency. Luckily my husband was able to get hold of my gynecologist directly and he came through to assist me. I was really disappointed at the nurse who was asked by the ladies who were with me if she can't get a doctor because I'm bleeding heavily and she said that nature must take its course and the doctor will only see me tomorrow. She shared confidential information with people who were in the ward. What if I did not want them to know what has happened to me? I am not returning to this place, I have witnessed many other things that were very dissapointing.

I am extremely disappointed at the service I received from the reception and causality on the 20/03/2023. I took my daughter to a paediatrician and she was diagnosed with RSV. He wrote us a letter for the baby to be admitted right away. Firstly the white lady by reception sent us to causality even though we presented the letter to her that says the baby must be admitted right away. When we got to causality the nurse there is now referring us to a gp even though we telling him we from a paediatrician and presenting the letter at that time we can all see that the child is struggling to breathe. We kept insisting he calls the paediatrician we were referred to and he said with confidence that she’s not in today, funny thing after the up and downs, the paediatrician was there and she said it’s critical and admitted the child to icu. Obviously the stuff by reception are not well trained Because obviously there’s a ICD 10 code which basically means the letter stands as authentication, no need to go casualty first. Please train your stuff before they cost you. Because if anything was to happen to my daughter, it was gonna take police to remove me from the hospital.

This is by far the worst Netcare hospital. The nurses are extremely rude, unsympathetic and have the worst attitude towards family members as well as the patients. My mother was initially admitted for 2 days but due to the hospital being unequiped, she ended up staying another extra day. When the nurses were asked if they have any updates on when the doctor would do his round to check on the patient and discharge the patient, the nurses said that they phoned the doctor's room to ask but the receptionist did not answer them and hence they couldn't say when the doctor would come. I, myself then went to the doctor's room and the receptionist was surprised that my mother was still not discharged and said that the nurses from the ward had not called the room at all in the past 3 days but we were told by the nurses that they have been in contact with the doctor's receptionist. This hospital is nothing more than a money making scheme and the nurses need to be trained properly and should behave in a professional manner towards their patients and the family members.

My mom is admitted in the hospital currently and has been in and out since Dec 2021. She had a stroke so most of the times she forgets certain things she's recently moved into an isolation ward where she complained that one of the male nurses slapped her and also a female nurse. I believe my mom because she has been in and out of the hospital but it's the first time that she is complaining about abuse. Yet to get feedback of how they going to resolve this issue as there should be cameras in these type of wards especially if the person has memory issues to protect both staff and patient. I don't sleep at night am really worried about my mom am praying for them to discharge her this week. She also mentioned that night staff were really mean to her and called her crazy nd that she will not remember what they doing to her. I'm disgusted and so disappointed at Garden city and the way they have treated the elderly. After this I will neva let my mom go back there ever again!

Horrible experience. Wait is all I've got to say. It seems that the hospital cannot cater to the numbers. You book online for pre-admission yet you get there, no direction or information is provided to let us know what's going on. Sit for another few hours only to be called to pre-admission, then to be told they waiting for a bed. So why do you book? We are not kept updated and informed. Although staff were friendly, no welcoming feeling going into your ward. Nurses chatting loud one way that you can't even sleep or hear your TV. No check up from day nursed unless you call them. Night nurses were completely different, welcoming, checked up and not noisy. Only went for op in the evening wich I didn't even know , hence I stopped eating the previous day at 6, so buy the time I went in I hadn't eaten or drank for over 24hours, even cried of hunger due my pregnancy symptoms. It was just horrible.

I want to start of by saying this is by far the worst pvt hospital I have been to, even Ghandi hospital in dbn which is a government hospital with bad reviews makes that a 5star to this. Went to my Gp as was referred to this hospital as I'm on medical aid . My husband hurt his leg and needed x-rays done, if he tore his amstring he would need surgery . Waited nearly 4hrs no dr saw him, then told come back tomorrow to see the radiologist . Imagine sitting for so many hours nobody even sends him to book at radiology. Pathetic to say the least. There was a mom there with her 1yr old baby , he had a fever of 39, hours went by and the Dr never saw him. We left and still they were waiting. #Discoveryhealth is that what our monthly contributions get us. I might as well go to a public hospital then terrible Pvt care like this. #CeoNetcareGardenCityHospital. Get your hospital in order

I visited a sick relative and the 1st thing I noticed was a sign saying that this hospital was voted one of the best. I am sorry to say that the service I received from before the visit, enquiry calls (unhelpful staff) to the actual visit was absolutely disgusting for a private hospital. Upon entering the hospital, no friendly smiles or friendly attitude at reception, at the actual ward I encountered a nursing sister who was firstly on her cellphone, then her rude and arrogant attitude... Unbelievable for a private hospital. Inside the room, it could honestly look a little better. We were asked to bring a sipping straw for my relative upon our next visit as they could not provide one... What? I am sorry to say that based on my experience, this is honestly the worst netcare hospital.

I was rushed to garden city clinic on the 28/08/2023 , I am a lupus patient who had severe vomitting , dizziness and body stiffness ,the casualty doctor says it’s menstruation, also Lost my hearing on the right side ( confirmed by the audiologist at garden city ) , I was discharged with a misdiagnosis, the rheumatologist did nothing but ask for some bloods and claimed plus minus 7000 rand from the medical aid - The nurses were on a new system / i pad .and didn’t know what was going on . The clinic exposes your net care survey to attending doctors opening you upto victimization should you ever use them again . The head of garden City refers you to hspca . I will never ever return to garden city again .

I'm writing this review very emotional but happy too with the service that I got from the staff on the 26th August 2023 from the Casualty night shift staff that was helping me before they knocked off all the way to the morning shift staff that was working with Dr. MABELA and the Anesthesiologist had me laughing and keeping me at ease, Thank you. The care and love that I got from all the Nurses including the Lady who was serving us delicious and neatly prepared food, so friendly and caring. I wish I remembered all their names because those ladies made me feel better not only medically but emotionally I left the hospital with so much hope. May God Bless you guys honestly.

  • Shandre Hughes

Looking at the reviews scared the living daylights out of me...i wanted nothing to do with Garden city BUT..... I can say dont ever believe everything you read...i delivered my bby there and had the most amazing service from start to finish,ALL the nurses were kind and comforting they really make you feel at home there i was sad to leave. My wife was admitted for a c/s We paid for a private room. Room 10. The room was in a pathetic state. Electrical cables were hanging lose overhead from the bed. Which is extremely unsafe for my family. Nursing staff attitude was suboptimal for private care, felt as if a favour was being done every time. Extremely strict visiting policy not clearly indicated nor informed of before booking the private room. One day security officer allowed 3rd visitor provided i, the husband who paid extra to be there all the time went out. And the next day it was a problem. Misinformation and overall a poor experience.

Maybe Netcare Garden City Hospital should consider being a public rather than private Hospital. I can't lie some nurses are professional, hard working and friendly but that small percentage is really tinting the hospitals image.Something should be done and be very urgent. When the patient rings a bell, how come the patient get attended to after 4 minutes. Some nurses attitudes really socks. There are quite exceptionally good nurses like Skhosana,,Sphindile,Sthe,Creslea (not sure about spelling)..all in High Care. .I smelled a big kinda tribalism and favoritism by nurses to patients.

  • Shameema Vanker

There is no process for admissions . Patients are just waiting around until they are helped. Staff do not give an update on the progress of which patient is next . This can be very frustrating especially when you need to admit a sick baby . Lifts also take very long and are quite slow . Overall nurses are helpful with an odd one or two being problematic . Paediatric ward is extremely old but Garden City has the best paediatricians . I was told that there will be revamp taking place soon so that’s the upside . Food was terrible in the ward and tacky juices provided for kids .

  • Antonette Lundy

Total subordination issues between Nurses and Doctors. Nurses blatantly ignore patient and Doctors requests. No feedback to patients about treatments or procedures. The location of the hospital, makes visiting of family very dangerous at night. For that reason plus poor patient care, i woyld never go there again. If poor nusing is the order of the day, pick a safer hospital closer to home. I would not recommend anyone going there. Unfortunately they have good Doctors but aftercare is severely compromised.

  • Marie Meyers

Had surgery done by Dr. Engelbrecht (one of the best doctors) The staff at section 8, including the doctor, were all very kind and caring. From the minute i went into theater, until i got discharged the next day. Very good service. Thank you The pharmacy need to speed up their customer service though. Waited more then 40 min just to get my meds. Not a nice experience, if you just had surgery.

  • Linda Engelbrecht

ICU ward is a mess my sister died under them no one was there they call for assistance and the nurses just ignore pasients. The Dr. Went on holiday the day after the big operasion. People need to be informed this hospital in ICU you won't come out alive. Surely you will die and your loved ones Wil alwayse hear the same story after calling. She is stabiil while dying. Very sad. People please be aware.

  • Nqobi Cathy

My daughter received the best care from Sister Busi at casualty, very wonderful, very helpful and caring. After surgery, my daughter was moved to Section 9 and one of the night staff was horrible to her, blatently refused to help her get to the bathroom when she was struggling to get of the bed, let alone walk to the bathroom. Simply shocking that this can even happen in a private hospital.

  • Yamankala Mnqandi

I was in Garden City Hospital in the Peadiatric ICU in January 2023 the nurses were mean to me.I had a seizure in the night and they never told my parents when my parents got there in the morning to visit me the saw I was on a ventilator and they were mad. When I got a feeding tube they shouted at me because I cried when it was uncomfortable. I don't like this hospital.

  • Zubeida Waja

This is THE worst hospital (private or public) I have ever been to. Arrived almost 3 hours ago, with my 6yr old coughing incessantly and she still hasn't been seen to, even though there were only a handful of patients in the waiting area. Music blaring in ER, staff having long conversations while patients are left unattended. Definitely our last visit to this horrid place.

  • Nicky Rofail

With the exception of most of the drs, this hospital should be renamed the NetNOCare. Hospital management should very seriously address the general rude and disinterested behaviour of their nursing staff, and the rough handling of their patients. The only sincerely helpful person during a long stay in ICU2 was Sazi Zuma. I hope that she gets recognised for her efforts.

  • Calvin Pillay

From admission to Discharge. It's the BEST hospital experience I have witnessed. The Drs are quick to treat and not drag along hospital stay.. Guys, this is an amazing hospital to my surprise.. I have visited more than 10 hospitals, and can say hands down ,this is the closest you will receive to 1st class overall care.

  • D. K.

Overall the hospital is well maintained and well managed. However every time I've visited patients in this hospital especially family and close friends the nursing staff were a bad experience, careless and have attitudes. You should not be in this line of work if you have no idea what you doing there!

  • Indiran Pillay

By far tye most pathetic Healthcare experience I have had to endure. There is zero accountability from staff or management and the handful that do work are undermined by the lazy and inept. I would caution anyone using these facilities, doctors are great, staff and facilities are horrific.

  • Kagiso Pule

The facility is old ,the service is so poor , public hospitals are far better . Such a huge hospital with one Porta at casualty. No sense of emergency at all. Water just started dripping from the room while is was in my ward. 1 person works at casualty desk , 1 person at the pharmacy.

  • Valetia Williams

Released without being attended to properly at casualty. Still in pain right now. Unnecessary scans that had nothing to do with my condition were done in casualty just to deplete my medical aid funds. Worst part the problem is still not resolved as I am still in extreme pain.

  • Derek Moore (Weblearning)

My daughter has had to be in hospital for the weekend. The hospital has been extremely kind (it also their policy). They let us parents, sit with our children. In the ward. Just being there. It soon became very clear, that this hospital is a well run, caring place.

  • Amanda Ntloko

I am surprised to see so many negative reviews. When I was admitted I received the best treatment from start to finish. The nurses were gentle and friendly, always came to check up on me and were informative. The doctors were also great and friendly.

  • I like pie

I am not sure why there are so many negative reviews, I was sceptical at first too, but then their service was so professional, so friendly, and very warming. Couldn't be any happier. I would rate this as the friendliest hospital in gauteng.

  • ismail Muhammad

Hi Hospital staff very nice Certain wards decent but icu n high care in need of serious upgrade Dont feel safe in there as a visitor imagine being a patient Things lying around, garbage everywhere, medical apparatus broken Be warned

  • Sumaya Nathanie

We had a terrible experience last week with my grand father in ICU. The nurses are terrible and so cold. They just don't care. It's very sad that they dont know how to treat old people. Why become nurses.

  • Puleng Morafo

This is the second time am in casualty and same thing happened. One Dr to run the entire casualty. One has to wait for like 5 hours to be attended. Garden city is worse than Baragwanath

  • Nhlanhla Moerane

My first night wasn't pleasant but they turned it around and they are making my Stay so much better 'kind professional and they're taking good care of me as a patient

  • Asanda Mbuku

I had a great experience at this hospital. I gave birth to my beautiful daughter. The nurses are so kind and welcoming. I would definitely come back again

  • Lesego Mashaba

Garden City is a great hospital. The nurses are the sweetest. I want to specifically thank the nurses from the NNICU, they do such an amazing job.

  • Thembeka Shandu

It's a worst private hospital to be in it takes 1-2 hours for a person to be admitted and a lot can happen to a person in 1 hours.

  • Parimal Patel

Real pathetic, Wakeup netcare, just matter of one good day another hospital open and all your nonsense wl be paid back to you,

  • Sara Nolan

Horrible horrible experience. Do not recommend and will never willingly use this hospital again.
