"Hey"
I bought a 3yr old Quaker female from this place back in mid March this year. She was apparently surrendered by her previous owners. The gentleman who sold her to us must have done a fabulous job caring for her in the meantime, as she is well socialised and hadn't lost all trust in people - we've managed to build trust with her very quickly! She did have some feathers missing on her left shoulder, but i realise this was probably 'stress-preening' from when her previous owners suddenly surrendered her out of the blue. The gentleman who i take it runs the show did seem standoffish at first, but when i expressed my interest in buying a bird that day he was very informative and helpful in letting my partner and I have a hold of the birds before purchasing. He is very knowledgable. What impressed me the most was that he tried reaching for a younger bird that we were having a keen interest in, but was very skiddish and clearly didn't like people. He could have very well sold that bird to us that day but gave up on catching the bird and informed us that some birds are just not mean't to be pets. I've read the other reviews, and its a shame that others had a poor customer experience. I get the sense that perhaps one too many people have walked into his store and were frivolous about buying a bird, and bought a companion bird out of the novelty of it - and so he chooses to not oblige anyone that he suspects might be a time waster .
I have been here a couple of times in the past, and every time i go the conditions of the birds get so much worse. you have around 13 budgies in each box (im saying box because it is way too small to even fit one budgie.) usually theyre all huddled together, and you can pick out atleast one in each that doesnt look well. along with this there is only two DOWELL perches, which most definetly has caused bumble foot in the majority of said birds. dirty water and dirty floors of cages, with absolutely horrible conditions for the majority of the birds. the only good conditions is the large aviarys that only some of the birds are in, and the rest of the birds are sidelined. the macaw (their only selling point) has a cage that is way to small, and is only around twice its size. the entire store is genuinely so deppresing, and it isnt even like “every bird store is like this” because it isnt, go anywhere else and it is so much nicer. the owner is sometimes alright and sometimes really bad. in the end, dont support this man. the cages are seriously overpriced, and once again, no, those arent normal prices. go anywhere and youll see.
On election day, we got a BIRD! a very unique budgie in color (a mix)according to the expert bird guy in the shop, his name is Johnny. He is amazing! He is so knowledgeable about birds, he is friendly, helpful, patient, humorous, funny and he just got everything to make our first bird purchase experience unbelievably wonderful! He even gently re-assembled the bird cage that my friend gave to us and make sure the bird will be living in a nice and comfortable one. Another bonus point, Thank you for the mum called Sherrie in the shop. She gave us a LOT of information about how to raise a bird(routines, tips etc). A really informative and real-life orientation for us to start a journey for petting a bird. Thank you Jonny and Sherrie, you made a GREAT DAY for me and my daughter ! If you go to this shop, please find Johnny, I heard he is also a bird judge on bird shows. We went another day and met another guy, I was told he was the shop owner, very unpleasant experience. Find Johnny, if you can bump into the mum Sherrie, you are really LUCKY !
Treated with no respect had almost no experience with customer service he came across really rude as if he didn’t want to sell to us and gave us no time do decide what we wanted to do as if he was kicking us out he also would avoid answering any question about the birds and gave us little to no information about how to treat and take care of the bird he also tried to sell us more than what we were asking for while being sarcastic about us feeding a baby budgie with cockatoos food after we told him that we lost the cockatoo due to the fact that he flew away. We didn’t meet any of the staff so I’m talking about the owner he was the only one there I would not recommend this place and I’m disappointed with the way I was treated. This did not happen today it was on Anzac Day that I went and purchased a budgie
Hey. I have came to this shop many times and i am somewhat disappointed with the way they keep the birds. I mean, yeah, the assistant is nice, and helpful, but i have a problem with the cages, but i will only discuss the condition of the budgies. There were a lot of budgies with cinnamon feather mutation, a rather beautiful mutation that i like, but it’s rare, and i have no idea how you could get so much of one mutation, and i find it somewhat concerning. The cages are extremely small, and a majority of the parakeets have puffed-up feathers, a sign of illness. They are kept in filthy cages, and it smells in there.
We've been going here for years and bought our first bird here and all the seeds and cage accessories from this shop for the past 6 years. We have dealt with the shop owner's/manager's behaviour, but today, he was incredibly rude (more than usual), not helpful at all and basically was not interested in helping us purchase a bird. He is not friendly and couldn't care less for the customer. He has hardly any stock and his shop in the last 5 years has deteriorated incredibly. I feel sad for the birds living in such hot conditions. I would NOT recommend and will never go there to purchase again.
Absolutely brilliant place! The birds are amazing! Service was fantastic! The shop assistant on Saturdays is so friendly and helpful, Answered all our questions and spent the time with us that we needed in purchasing our Cockatiel. Highly Recommend!!! +++++++ Prices are extremely reasonable, such quality too! We have had our bird for a week now and I had a few questions so I phoned the shop and the owner was very happy to speak with me and was so helpful. I just can't speak highly enough of Nunawading Birds and Pets. We will definitely be back and will be sending our family and friends!
Went there to buy a pair of qauils.trusted him took my own cage but he used one of those cardboard boxes.got home to find that I was given 2 males. Rang and he said he went into wrong avairy so a professional bird guy and could not tell the difference between male female.haha.when I told him ill pop over next week he dictated when I should go.buyers be carefull to look at what U ask for be fore walking out.as for me I'll never never going there as he behaved so unprofessional.
EXTREMELY Happy!.. All birds were kept in a beautiful, clean environment with fresh water/food and care provided..Some even happy to sit outside there cages! Michael was SO helpful and gave wonderful advice in keeping and caring for our new little Budgie. I know many friends that in the past have highly recommend Birds & Pets in Nunawading and cannot fault the wonderful service given... We would definately come back here for sure over anywhere else.
The ONLY one stop bird shop I go to in Melbourne. The staff are always friendly, helpful and extremely knowledgeable on all things bird. They always have a wide range of birds. I've been going there for several years and the bird always appear healthy, the shop is always clean and tidy. The staff are keen to share their knowledge on the birds in store , with prospective customers to ensure the right match with owner and bird, so their future home is a success.
I purchased the Amazon Parrot this week and can’t thank Michael enough for his genuine expertise and knowledge. He was so helpful and it’s obvious he had a love of birds. Such a great experience and would highly recommend to anyone wanting to purchase a very well cared for hand reared Parrot! Thanks for a wonderful experience- I’m in love with our new family member “Sally” she is going to be a great addition to our family
Definitey recommend leaving your birds at Nunawading Birds and Pets while you are away on holidays. Their price per day is reasonable and their service is great. We were away for 34 days and Michel took great care of our baby cockatiels while we were away. He fed them, cleaned their cage and my birds loved the company of all the birds in the bird shop. Will definitely leave my birds with Michael when I go away again.
Five star knowledge and experience with the birds. Been looking for a cockatiel since May and kept in touch with Michael since then. A few weeks ago we purchased a hand tamed bird on Saturday with Johnny 's help. Totally happy with our purchase and have a new family member now. Michael has been a great help and reassured us as new inexperienced owners with none of my questions being too stupid for him to answer!
The best place to buy a hand raised baby bird. Very Happy with our new pet galah bruiser, he loves his adventures around our home, The best part is bruiser picked us out with his kisses and needy scratches. He now knows how to shake hands and has a growing vocabulary after just a few weeks. Such a sweet boy will happily except pats from anyone who visits which is unusual I hear.
We went here to get bedding for my green cheek conure I got from Victorian Bird Company (highly recommend) and I went inside the bird room to see a mess. Now I’m not here to hurt your feelings or anything like that I’m just here to give advice, maybe you should take some time into cleaning the place up and getting bigger and better cages as well as more toys.
I went to this shop today and I’m really happy with their service. I never had birds and first time I went to a bird shop. He explained everything clearly and guided me the best birds to buy. He was really kind and professional. Most surprising thing is, he gave me some birds free of charge as a compliment. Thank you very much and happy to come back again.
Dropped in to have a look, and after visiting other stores with budgies I will admit I wasn’t expecting much. I was impressed by the range and quality in store and admittedly took a while before finally settling on two due to the large selection of great stock. There was also a wide variety of other birds and plenty of bird related products available too.
I've been going to this long-running, heritage business to buy my Avigrain Budgie Blue seed mix and calcium and mineral blocks for my budgies for about a year, and in my experience, it's always been clean and stocking healthy birds. There's usually a decent selection of birds of various species on offer too. Michael the owner has been great to deal with.
The most abominable living conditions for birds I've ever seen. Cages were filthy, baby birds were nesting in bird droppings, too many birds in small cages or too small to support big birds. Birds are intelligent and the mistreatment and neglect was disgusting to see. Don't buy from here or support the continued mistreatment of birds.
I purchased an Aus x English budgie mix from here a few weeks ago and a couple of days ago he died of an internal parasite that he had had since we got him. If you are going to purchase a bird from here I implore you to get it health checked before its too late! Here's a picture of Dobie the day we got him #justicefordobie
I'm happy that I chose this place to get two budgies as first pet for my son. The shop is very clean and well organised with a lot of varieties of birds. The salesperson Henry was very helpful and provided all details required on our last Saturday visit. Highly recommended place to buy pet birds....
Always come to this shop for all my bird supplies. Great bird food, great quality toys and love to see all the gorgeous birds they have on offer. Purchased my hand reared Galah from their store and couldn’t be happier with the nature of her. Thank you heaps for the excellent service!
This gentlemen cares enough about his birds to suss out his clients before he places a bird in their care. After this initial consult he was so helpful, knowledgeable and gave us a great discount. All his birds were in great health and I recommend him as a professional.
We're so happy with our purchase today. Got our little son a budgie, a cage with food and other accessories for the bird. The gentleman who works there was so helpful in such a professional & friendly manner. Would recommend this store to anyone.
Hello friends this place is very good to buy new pet birds. Very good customer service. Staff is very friendly, helpful and Johnny's way of dealing with customers excellent. I love this shop. I strongly recommend this place. Thanks
Amazing bird store, owner is very nice and honest. Can really tell that he loves his birds as they all seem to love him even tho he’s had them for a week in the store. Got a princess parrot, good price, and such a beautiful bird.
Thankyou Michael for selling me my beautiful budgie! Your ongoing knowledge has helped me immensely in rearing my first budgie! I appreciate your upfront honesty in what is best for him, otherwise I wouldn't have a clue!! Cheers
I would not buy anything from this Birds & Pets shop as it was very disappointing and extremely dirty and should be close and the owner should lose his licence to own birds for life.
Owner is nice, but the shop inside is very dirty and full of dusty anywhere, I can’t imagine how many years they didn’t clean and I feel bad for the birds inside of the store …
Some beautiful birds here, and the owner is quite knowledgeable. However, even the larger birds are kept in relatively small cubicles with no greenery or items of entertainment.
Place is just the perfect place to get a bird! I've gotten atleast 8 birds from here, they all had just fine health. I've got a question: Do you have green cheeked conures here?
I boarded two birds for a month, Michael took very good care of them and provided a clean and safe place. Highly recommended for parrot boarding …
Have just gotten my new family member here :) the shop owner is very chill and helpful. My little budgie is well tamed and healthy.
I’m so happy to have a beautiful sun conure within reasonable price, Michael is very good person and friendly, all the best mate!
Great shop and the best place to go for anything bird related. Staff are amazing and really know their stuff.
Very helpful when enquiring about the right kind of seeds to feed your birds. Good quality food for pets.
The proprietor was quite keen to see the back of me. Went there to urchase a portable cage.
Fantastic place with a friendly, knowledgeable owner who takes great care of his birds!
