Our first time at this great little Vietnamese in Ascot Vale and it won’t be our last! It is really cosy with only about 30 seats in the main restaurant but with a large courtyard out the back for when the weather is The menu has a lot of variety without being massive and it was really hard to choose as it all sounded great. There are definitely some things I will be heading back to try. We started with the Steamed Prawn Dumplings, VFC (Vietnamese Fried Chicken) and San Choi Bao. The dumplings were full of prawn pieces and the ginger in the sauce was a perfect compliment. The VFC chicken wings were super crunchy and really delish – my favourite starter of the night! Loved the way the San Choi Bao was served, in a tea cup. Not only did it look good but it was super practical for catching all those delicious juices. The San Choi Bao was a little more rustic than usual with chunks of chicken and a hint of honey sweetness. For mains we had the East Meets West grilled chicken. It was such a generous serve with great flavours. I was tempted by the Pepper Beef and I have to say it was like it was home cooked. The beef was tender, vegies with a hint of crunch and the pepper had just the right amount of kick without being overpowering. A fabulous place, we will visit again soon.

Sadly, for us, being locals, we have no choice but to avoid this place from now on. The food is reasonably good in fairness, but the service is atrocious, bordering on theft. The problem is: they ALWAYS cock.up your order... EVERYtime. We thought it to be an accident at first, but, after the 4th time, when they openly admit that they give you additional food AND CHARGE YOU FOR IT, it makes you wary. You shouldnt have to check & double check every order, - you should be able to pick it up & enjoy your meal. They did refund us...all 3 times, but only because we checked & challenged them... Also: Wait times are TERRIBLE. They always say say: " ready in 10 minutes" & you inevitably wait in queue with uber eats for half an hour. Sad to have to tell you to avoid. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ **** In response to Saigon Soul's response: YES, - I am 100% certain it is Saigon Soul in Ascot Vale. 1. It definitely DID occur 2. I will not be removing my review, as it is fact & I am a real customer & this is a real experience. You can refute it all you like, however, your time would be better spent rectifying your business practicises, rather than rejecting reviews from paying customers, as fake.

Absolutely terrible experience. Ordered a pickup at 7.40pm. My wife arrived at 8.10pm to pick up the order. They told here there would be a slight wait. Then, they said they were "out of the signature box" (which is made up of many different items), which after further clarification just meant a certain style of chicken. They re-iterated it would only be 10 more minutes. It comes to 9.00pm, and they then explain that they are "out of everything and need to refund our order" (while in full view still serving rice and other food to other customers). Terrible service. If you are out of food, or too busy to fulfil the order, tell us at the time of the order, not make us wait an hour and a half and ruin our dinner and evening. We will never be ordering from here again.

If there was a zero star option I would choose that instead of 1 star... we booked this place for 21 people for a special occasion.. knowing we had a big group we preordered the dishs a few days before and asked them to served the food right on 7.30pm.. slow service is an under statement.. extremely disappointed considering we gave them plenty of time to prepare our dishes. Some other guests came in later then our group and got their food faster then we did... the food in itself taste all the same using the same dressing... unfortunately it will be my 1st and definitely last time there....

Ordered here last week because of the good reviews and I'm still shocked at how bland the food was. Both phos had very minimal flavour. Rice paper rolls tasted of not much other than lettuce. Veggie dumplings had no flavour and worse it was $12 for 4 standard small ones?! We also took the food as soon as it was done and walked 3 minutes home and the soup was lukewarm. I don't like to leave negative reviews (especially at this time) but we spent $60 on takeaway as a special treat and it was a huge letdown. Bad service I can ignore but not tasteless food. We will not be returning.

My partner tried ordering 2 drinks with the waiter just saying we don’t have it and finally settled on one. The entree were okay. My main meal I found two large hairs in it and my partner ordered a dish that he ordered to eat with rice as it was meat and vegetables and the rice never came out. The staff sat behind us playing videos on their phone really loud which made it hard to hear each other talk. Pretty disappointing since it cost 85 dollars

Was my 1st visit ... Won't be my last I did my research from Southern Cross .. WA and I was not disappointed... this gorgeous young couple who run/own this place are fabulous. We had a walk in .. picked a table and was promptly served about 8pm on a busy Thursday night this week .. food was served swiftly, hot & fresh! Can totally recommend the following - Prawn dim sum East meets West Chicken curry Ohhh and the apple cider Thankyou so much for a flavoursome & totally enjoyable meal .. WE WILL BE BACK & SOON

Went to Saigon Soul a while ago but it was amazing value for money when you purchased their daily specials advertised on the chalkboard. Loved the taste and serving size. Back then, the Monday East Meets West for $11 with the Hanoi beer $5. Super delicious and filling! You could eat there every day of the week with these deals! #saigonsoul

This place deserves 5 stars in every way. The front of house were extremely polite and accommodating, the service was quick and the food is some of the best I've had in a long while. The prices are reasonable and the portions are moderately sized. I highly recommend the Bao, but not many meals will ever beat how good the Saigon Street fried pork is. Well exceeded our expectation in every sense of the word and I can't wait to go back for our 2nd visit. And 3rd. Aaaaand a 4th atleast.

Bought on Deliveroo with several coupon codes for a total of ~$20 for 2 sides and a main. Spring rolls were okay, chicken wings (my dad's order) were dry and bland, pad thai had a decent flavor but the texture was a bit soggy. we got 2 dressings, chili one tasted fine, but whatever the cream one was it looked smelled and tasted like chemicals. Hopefully it was only bad because we paid peanuts.

Spicy Pho was served luke warm, when I alerted a server she proceeded to cup my bowl in her hands and stated back to me that it was hot enough! The vegan Pho arrived with a big black hair, it was replaced and the soup was significantly hotter in temperature compared to the Spicy Pho. Roti was very doughy/undercooked. Service was poor, server was grumpy and paying the bill turned into a very weird exchange which left us scratching our heads...won’t be back.

Fantastic satay sauce. We had the Pad Viet (chicken because they ran out of beef, and chicken pineapple skewers which we loved and really want to give a go at home too. Servings small and perhaps a little more cost compared to what you'd expect in Footscray but flavours and quality of meat was excellent. Loved how they cook the chicken and the slightest fatty cuts they select makes it really juicy.

Great customer service! The guy at the front is lovely. Nice ambience at the back of the restaurant. Quite relaxing. Like other reviews our orders took awhile to come. Reasonable price BUT Small servings luckily they had weekday special some dishes were half price. If you want to have a strong and genuine Vietnamese food then don't come here. We were disappointed with the food as they did not taste real Vietnamese food at all. Will not go back.

The owner is two-faced. Always nice to his customers, during my meal at the restaurant he was not so nice to the delivery drivers, was extremely rude too them for no apparent reason! Other than the poor treating of the drivers the staff insisted on having the door open which allowed many flys/insect into the restaurant which was irritating and scary too think about how many were in the kitchen area!! Extremely disappointed, would not recommend

Placed a confirmed phone order 5.46pm today and at 6.16pm my wife went to pick up on her way home. The order was indeed received and nothing was even commenced with the order after being told 10-15mins. It’s disappointing as this has happened multiple times with both dine in and take away. Just a note for those ordering take away to confirm things if you’re waiting for a feed!

We try to support local business but unfortunately we were disappointed today. After ordering our crab meat salad took a long time to come to the table and the chillies came after we were almost done eating our food. Our first mouth of the salad was off, ti the point we had to spit it out. The service was slow and mediocre, we won’t be going back.

Lovely staff. Chicken in Pho was succulent & flavourful. Prawn Dumpling Pho was very yummy, real prawns with just the perfect amount and combo of vegetables. And finally the broth, not too strong or salty on the palate, could definitely taste the goodness and healing properties of the beef bone broth. Comes with a sweet sauce to add, which really compliments the whole dish. Will be back for sure :)

Ordered Grandma's beef which is supposed to be crispy, unfortunately this is how it came. Swimming in soup, meat was tough and fatty. This is my usual order and so disappointed:( Last 3 times I've ordered from SS and the meal has terrible. I've given up and will no longer go there! Such a shame as they are so nice and friendly, and wanted to support local! 1 very disappointed customer :(

Tip top customer service eclipsed by food with very small quantities. Don't be surprised if your dish is short on noodles and contents. Very poor value for money. Way smaller than what you would get in noodle dishes in Laksa King, Pho House, Green Bamboo, Sambal Kampung, Roti Rd, etc.

By far one of the most delicious experiences of Asian and Vietnamese cousine of recent times. Amazing service and great value for money. Huy, the young waiter was the most pleasant and professional as well as attentive and knowledgeable of Vietnamese History. A must to visit place. There is no need to add photos, just see their menu, true to the word.

Tried the vegetarian meal/box and it was pretty underwhelming. The "meal" consisted of a massive portion of rice and not much else - the rice was accompanied by some soggy veges, no coleslaw (despite this being advertised) and a couple of tiny spring rolls. Save your money and instead get good Vietnamese food down the road in Footscray instead.

Bought a takeaway chicken pho, the noodle soup tastes so weird that I felt like it's a combination of hoisin souce, sugar (yes, a lot of sugar), salt and water. No taste of beef bones, grilled onions and other herbs (pepper, coriander. Etc). I'd try another dishes next time, maybe they'll do it better but the Pho is a big No No for me. Phở dở.

Nice food and setting. The restaurant owner was overly friendly and nice to us and to other customers, but as we saw UberEats delivery drivers come in and out to pick up the orders, the owner seemed to be very cold, and show no respect towards the drivers and even made one poor guy wait outside in the freezing cold. I won't be coming back.

Got a Vietnamese noodle bowl from here and it was so bland and disgusting. Also got the pork and that was so chewy and felt like all the fatty bits. Prawn dumplings also terrible - the aldi prawn dumplings are about 100 x better. Would give this place a miss!

Cannot believe how much flavour they jam packed into all the sauces and the soup that came as a side to the rice dishes, WOWOWOW. All the food was incredible and authentic where it counts but they really embraced modern nuances. This is definitely our new local and everyone who was dining there on a Tuesday night was feeling the same!

Nice Vietnamese restaurant in Ascot Vale. Funny menu with things like 'Lucky Lucky Duck' on the menu. Food was decent. Our only criticism was that all meals had the same vegie selection in a different sauce. There were a lot of vegies. Great service and gluten free options.

Delicious!!! The prawn dumplings, beef bun and especialllllllly the chicken in the east meets west were all fantastic! That chicken though.. the bomb! Can't wait to come back here, really glad it's so close to home and so delicious! Highly recommend. Service super friendly. They also have really cool weekly specials.

Food and service is fantastic, three of us ate there recently and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. the food is reasonably priced, so as a local will be back there again soon. Thought the $5 corkage per head was a little high for just providing 3 glasses, nothing else, but can live with that.

A good place for Vietnamese food. The staff was very helpful when we asked to move. Good ambience. Very reasonably priced. They have a good outdoor section in the back. The serving portions are little bit small. We ordered 4 starters, 2 mains and 2 drinks amongst 3 of us at approx 100$.

Fast, friendly and efficient service. Good sized meals with plenty of variety. We had chicken wings which hubby loved, Pad Viet with a very tasty homemade satay sauce and Gramdma beef which was delish and tasted very authentic. We were served great flavorful dishes with a smile!

Great venue. Goes way out the back with heaps more tables in an undercover back courtyard. Far more than you'd expect from looking in the front window. Would happily come here again to try more items. Lovely service staff too.

My favourite place to eat in Ascot Vale! Not sure whats going on with the reviews regarding the delivery drivers (are these real reviews???). My observations have been staff are genuinely courteous to both diners and drivers. Try this restaurant....you will love it!

Have tried most of their dishes & almost everything is great. Stand out dishes are Pho Laksa (the coconut cream sauce is delicious) & the Pad Viet. The quail is disappointing, it was overcooked and dry. Service is friendly & food tastes just as good take away.

I agree with the other reviewer relating to getting orders bumped up and getting charged for it. On multiple occasions they gave me extra food I didn't order and yes got charged for it. Maybe you could call it as borderline theft, but certainly very dishonest.

We waited for more than 30 minutes for the worst spring rolls, and the restaurant was empty, apparently it is better if you order from uber eats if you want a service for this restaurant, wasteof time and money.

Had an event in the back room here, it was absolutely amazing. The service was great, and food was great, reasonably priced too! Insulated by roll-down curtains, outdoor heating. Nicely decorated space. Perfect for an event of 20-22 people, with seating.

We had the rice paper roll, the pork BAO and a veggie bun. The food is fresh and tasty. The staff are great as well. Don't normally travel to this side but it is a little gem. Would highly recommend.

Staff member did not engage with us as we were seated. 15 minutes before we were served. First three items we ordered were not available. 20 minutes before we got our food on a quiet night. Minimal protein in the dishes. We didn’t receive our drinks.

One of the best Vietnamese restaurants on Western suburb - perhaps cause it's away from the main drag. Great place for early dinner if you have babies or toddlers with nice courtyard. Always friendly staff and amazing food.

Amazing food and you definitely get value for your money. Portion sizes are large, the food is delicious and the staff is friendly. The daily specials are unbeatable but honestly we loved everything we tried on the menu!

We had our end of year Christmas break dinner and our Ipa group was around 30.Food was fantastic, lots of entrees, wide choice of wine and spirits and really quick service in between the meals.Highly recommended.

This is a real surprise on a hot night - From an uninviting exterior to a wonderful Vietnamese meal at excellent prices. This restaurant is well worth a visit for a casual, delicious and fresh flavoured meal.

Would not recommend for Pho. Just bought one from here for takeaway; no basil, one tiny piece of lemon, fatty chicken offcuts, would not give me any soy when asked and no serviettes or cutlery. Go elsewhere!

The food at Saigon Soul is quite good and the prices are reasonable but the tables and the floor really need a good clean. If the dining area is so dirty one can only imagine what the kitchen is like.

Excellent service in a relaxed atmosphere. So polite and accommodating and great food. Reasonably priced with excellent flavours. Highly recommended if you’re looking for very tasty Vietnamese food.

Waited over an hour and still had no food for us. Never responded to our queries. Left at the end hungry with no food and found out they haven't even started preparing our food. Will not come again

Delicious food! Everything we ordered was cooked fresh and you could taste the difference. The service was excellent and there were plenty of gluten free, dairy free, vegan and vegetarian options.

It's all Yummy !! Loved the chicken ribs and the squid. Thumbs up for the gluten free options. It's nice to sit in the court yard , if you have a group it's a great casual option. Give it a go.

Nice food. Service a little slow but I guess they were unexpectedly busy first weekend after lockdown again. Very pleasant. Will eat here again for sure. Pho was lovely and broth very hearty.

Excellent food and service. The chicken laksa pho and chilli beef pho are a must try. The fried prawn wontons are delicious extra crispy with a very tasty sauce. 10/10 recommend.

The staff were really flexible and friendly when we asked to be moved. Food came out pretty quickly. But the toilets didn’t have a lock and really needed a bit of a clean.
