I chose to end my storage unit rental due to seeing the lack of maintenance which led to a cockroach problem I noticed in the last 2 weeks. I took a picture and then decided to call to leave my unit end of month. While two girls were spraying for the roach problem (while pretending it doesn't exist here), I asked to purchase some moving boxes, and the first XL box I used had a dead roach sticking out the cardboard and pieces falling out before I could tape the box. The employees I just saw denied the possibility and were treating me like I'm crazy to call it out. The taller girl was extremely condescending and accused me of showing a pic of roaches from "somewhere else", as if I have time to do so. Then she makes a comment that the boxes can't be sold anymore when I say I don't trust using their merchandise given the reason I could be spreading eggs at my place. I wouldn't expect these two sloppy looking employees to understand the concept of clean, especially in a time of COVID-19. The washrooms don't get cleaned for days at a time - where I see the same pile of dirt on my next visit. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS DISGUSTING PLACE! The pics I posted were deleted on the review page unfortunately, and still waiting to hear from this District Manager. My expectations for a positive outcome are non-existent based on how these employees still have jobs here. Garbage company

Good points for the 1 star: - Affordable parking spaces - Clean place Negative points: - I spent 10 minutes looking for my spot as it was covered in snow. I think singing should be done more creatively. - My code never worked. Had to call them to open the gates - Your rate is fixed. So if it drops the next month on there website, they will not honor the new rate. - The payment email alert came to me on the 14 of the month, so I was already due and had to pay 25 dollars in late fees which i think too much. I think the payment alert should come to email from the first day. I told the staff I was on a leave outside the country (on an emergency leave) and I asked them to remove the fees but they refused. - Staff was responding to my emails when I asked questions while I was overseas. However, when I asked them to remove the late fees, they stopped the correspondence; and when I asked them about that, when I moved my car, the staff said that the head office cut the emails off! sounds strange?!! Once I asked for fees to be removed, they were cut off. Not a good customer service way to solve things...The day they stopped responding I was charged extra fees as I was waiting for their response and thought they would do it for me? If you want to rent from this place, be wary of the late fees. However, this is how businesses run out of customers by not making them happy.

I have been customer of this storage for almost 2 years and I am moving out because of the terrible customer service, price and the limited access to the facilities, at 10pm you have to be out of there. They do price increases every 6 months, YES or YES no matter what they tell you at the beginning, they blame the head office located somewhere else. In experience, the price increase has been always between a 15-20% (every 5 months) so up to 40% per year, RIDICULOUS. Its funny how the employees are watching at the cameras all the time but not move a finger to clean the facilities, including the washroom. Customer service is the worst. For more than 4 MONTHS there was such a disgusting smell on the area around my unit, when I told them I was given a different excuse every time. One day I am in the unit and they came "searching the smell source in my unit", no joke! Sometime later appeared there was "deer repellent" inside other unit. They didn't move a finger until the smell was in the whole floor!

it's with great disappointment that I write this review - as I feel really cheated! On August 2021 I occupied my storage and prepaid for 11 months at a rate of $310 a month; unfortunately my condo was not ready for another 6 months, therefore, I had to rent the storage for another 6 months. The rate was increased to $405 per month. Yet another delay for my condo, and again I had to rent the storage for another 6 months. This time they increased the price to $459 per months - while they were advertising a special price for the same unit for $332 per month. When I called to discuss the special price, I was told that unless I emptied the unit occupy it again, I could not benefit from this special price. As a senior leaving from pension to pension with minimal increase of my pension, I felt that this was the time to take advantage of an elderly since I had no other options!! There are many more storage space elsewhere, do not go to this one.

I had to move to a smaller apartment so i did not have any where to put my extra stuff Halloween/Christmas decorations i have a lot so i stop in to get a number for how much it was going to cost me and after hearing the price i had to jump on it. no way i was going to pass this deal. The staff walked me around and after seeing 3 different size units and that they have a bathroom for customers to use when they are there. The staff walked me over all the paper work and answered my questions

Rented a few storage units here at the beginning of the year...these guys have been amazing since day one! Gave us an excellent price for our units, they were very accommodating, gave us a tour of the place so we know how to get around and the facility is extremely clean which makes me feel better especially when storing your valuable possession's. The staff here is very helpful, will continue to do business here. Very happy with the experience and would gladly recommend it to anyone.

Staff is nice. The owners are money hungry grubs. I liked it better when it was Appleby storage. I am happy to say I am glad never to have to do with this company again. I ended my storage before the end of the month. Apparently they owe me $9 but said it was non-refundable. Also some of my items have been chewed and there was most poop in my unit. Some of my comic books had mold on them and this place claims to be climate controlled. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

Reserved a unit online (price was valid till oct 1). Arrived on sept 25th ( our moving day) and was told they can’t honor the price and the unit would cost an additional $30 per month! Spoke to 3 representatives who were unable to assist and was told they needed to escalate to the District manager. Just ridiculous that they can’t honor pricing when I have the email confirmation stating everything. Waited for 2 hours never received a call back. Awful customer service!

Love this place but didn't get our first month free. We got 2 lockers at the same time is probably the problem. It has great access. Dock level, cubevan level, and ground level with or without ramp. We're on the second floor and the elevator is always available and clean. Yesterday it was 41c outside and it was a pleasure to move in the a/c unit. Staff was friendly and helpful when getting the storage. Will recommend to friends and family.

I have been renting storage space at the SmartStop location on the South Service Road in Oakville for a few years now, and I have no negative experiences to report. Staff are always very helpful, and the facility is kept clean and secure. Cumulative increases in the monthly rates over the last few years have been significant, though not excessive. A SmartStop customer loyalty program of some kind might be worth considering.

Lady I spoke to was nice but company takes advantage you if. They increased my rate from 200 to 300 /month . I called multiple times to let them know I will be exiting the unit . Left messages. No call back . The day I went to empty the unit they let me return the unit but did not give me back the money I was owed . Almost 1 month. Very disappointing. Use a different storage company

Smart shop storage @ North Service road in Oakville made the process of renting a storage unit so easy. They were super friendly yet professional and explained all the details and logistics really well. My storage unit is clean and a great size for what I need. This is my second time coming back to smart stop and why i will keep my business here because employees like Jessica was an amazing help she went beyond of my expectations.. i am moving 2hr30 away she found away to get me a unit size I needed asap was so kind a generous .... this is what I call perfect customer service!!!

The storage is clean, and the manager Jessica has always been friendly and helpful. But like others, I'm seeing regular price increases. Originally paid $109/mth in Q3 2019, now paying $144/mth in Q1 2021. Well within their rights to increase prices, but at some point it makes more sense to move to another provider.

Staff are friendly and very helpful. Units were clean and easy to access with the loading bay. One star down because the loading bay has loose metal gratings which are not completely secured. And there is a large bump you have to get the cart onto to get it into the building. However very good otherwise!

Was looking for a storage, so I sent a request online. The next morning I got a follow up call from Stacy, she was very professional in explaining the availability and prices and general rules.
