Last train of the day left early. Really?! We arrived on the platform one minute before it was scheduled to leave and the metro worker told us it had just left. We had planned to be there 20 minutes before departure, but a series of unfortunate events slowed us down - including the metro elevators being hard to locate (across the street from the escalator) and when we got there they weren't working so we had to go back across the street AGAIN. Only added a couple of minutes to our trek, but would've made the difference in us being able to catch the train. The last train of the day should NEVER leave early.
Visited DC with my cousins from Westminster, Md. Rode the line in and the connections were easy to maneuver. I liked the self-serve ticket machine although it was a little difficult figure which ticket to get. You have to take your time and read the screen. Study the stations first so you know where you are going and where you are returning to. Anyway, amazing that this network of trains tunnels underneath the massive buildings going through the heart of DC. We had a great time. It is good to travel with someone who knows the routine though.
This is a nice metro station. I have used it multiple times and was satisfied with my experience each time. This station has multiple street entrances, which is nice. One entrance is on the National Mall, and the other one is between the two Department of Agriculture buildings. I have used both entrances, both of which were clean and convenient. This station served by the blue, orange, and silver lines, which is pretty nice. I gave this metro station five stars because it’s clean and convenient.
This is a nice metro station. I have used it multiple times and was satisfied with my experience each time. This station has multiple entries for different streets. One entrance is the National Mall or the other one is between the two Department of Agriculture buildings. I used both entrances, both were convenient. This station is a transfer point to the blue, orange, and silver lines trains. I give this metro station five stars and make sure you like if this was helpful
Blue, Orange, and Silver lines service this station. If you are going to the Museums this is likely the station you want. It will be crowded so watch your bags and read the signs. There is more than two ways to exit the station. And where you are going will decide which exit you want. And check out the maps in the station and outside the Mall exit. Remember museums are spread out and this MIGHT not be the best station to use to get to the one you want to visit first.
An older employee at the Smithsonian Metro Station on the Green line- Branch Avenue station side was very rude to me today (around 6pm). I approached him saying excuse me sir. He continued to talk to his female coworker. I then said excuse me sir once again and when he finally looked. I then asked him how would I get to the Greenbelt side. He tells me “you have two feet. walk forward and take the escalator up.” characteristics of a smartmouth.
This station is conveniently located in DC near some of the Smithsonian museums. There are 3 lines that stop here (blue, orange and silver), and there are multiple exits on different streets. There are signs making the station easy to navigate, and LED screens that show the arrival times for the next few trains. During the summer this station does get busy with tourists and people visiting the National Mall and Smithsonian museums.
This station is quite empty on all weekdays. On weekends, you will see a couple people, but still not many. It's location on the National mall makes it very convenient. You can easily access the capitol, the Washington monument, and the World War II memorial. This station will be swamped during popular events and holidays, most notably at the peak of the cherry blossoms. Highly reccomend using this station to your full advantage.
Quite chaotic during spring time vacation / holiday goers. I was here during cherry blossom peak and it was a mad house. The staff was herding people through the entry gates and exit gates like cattle! But it all kept flowing so they were doing something right. Look at the huge crowds of people waiting to get on the metro in my photos! Station seemed clean considering how much foot traffic it had. Photos as of March 2019.
This station, in particular, is a decent WMATA station, close in proximity to that of several of the Smithsonian museums oriented in Washington D.C., and is a good overall station for most tourists coming into Washington D.C. to get off at. Unfortunately, this station is not all that immaculate, as it is evidentially not upkept well as seen from that of other reviews that I have read regarding this particular station.
By DC Metro standards a pretty clean and nice station (especially if your from New York). Convenient access to SOME of the museums. However some other museums like the Air & Space are closer to L’Enfant. Check maps to see which station is closest to the museum you want to visit so you can avoid walking more than you need to. Also this station is very busy at rush hour and during peak tourism months.
Convenient to getting in and around DC. The cost is not great, but fair. The Metro cars and stations look old, dirty, and uncared for. Half the conductors/operators speak clearly and are easily understood; the other half are unclear, mumble, and sound drunk. Note: Yellow line is not operational, but special Blue trains are covering for some Yellow stops.
The station in itself was fine. But the station manager i ended up with today was absolutely god awful. She was rude and dismissive about us trying to explain what was going on with the app. She did not listen at all. She also cussed another patron out. Will be using this station as little as possible from now on.
Convenient location if you are heading to the Mall, Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial/Korean War Memorial/WWII Memorial. Museums are easy to access from here too. It's just like other D.C. stations and I really don't like the fact that subway stations usually do not contain public bathrooms.
We rode the subway on a thur in July & it wasn't that crowed. It very close to most of the museums & to the Washington Monument. It have 2 sides. Each side go different directions. I didn't see a guard there because I saw some kids jump over the paying gate & the mom didn't do nothing.
Worst experience. Wmata needs major management change. Current management is so poor, they have hardly 5 line and they cannot manage this. Why this is not addressed, DC metro has been worst for years and there are no signs of improvement. Needs a major ovwrhaul
The Smithsonian Station is a great way to access some -- but not all -- of the museums on the National Mall. For many of the big ones, Archives might be a better bet for a station. That said, Smithsonian is well-maintained and opens right onto the Mall itself.
Great place to get off the metro and get a gander of some iconic views from The Mall. Walk to the museums. Visit festivals. Be a tourist! DC has a lot to offer, and the Smithsonian Metro station will take you to the heart of the action
Very convenient location at the heart of the Smithsonians. Walking distance from just about every museum you will want to visit. The metro train itself was pretty quick to arrive and was off to our next destination just as quick.
Does the job but I really wish there were restrooms. The Smithsonian museums do have restrooms but they are spaced farther apart than they appear on maps, so be prepared to walk a lot just to avail of this very basic amenity.
A good starting off point to get to pretty much everything you will want to see in D.C. A great city to visit. Be sure to plan accordingly, however, as there are always things going on.
Great station has service to all the lines and has workers constantly about and it connects to the museums that I went too as well but I wish they would clean it up a bit
I spent a day in D.C and it was a wonderful time. In a radius of 20 miles , there's lot to do. Museums are all free, so take the advantage to go and visit them all.
First time ever using any type of metro system. We found it clean and the attendee to be very helpful. Museum hopping on vacation.
The station is at an extremely convenient location on the National Mall, making it easy to head to any of the nearby museums
Best stop to start your Smithsonian adventure. Puts you in the middle of the mall, with a short walk to the castle.
The Smithsonian is a wonderful set of free to visit museums in and around DC. Best places for family visits.
Nice clean metro station with easy access to the National Mall and many of the Smithsonian museums.
Blue, Orange and Silver Lines run at this station. Located near the Washington Monument.
Metro is the only way to travel in DC. New trains are coming on line making it better.
Very creative display of historic artifacts. My son loves airplanes
A metro station right beside Washington monument, very convenient.
The festival of construction was a hit for the excavator lover!
