Having a partner and son with coeliacs it is always a mission to find somewhere where either won’t go home with either a bloated stomach or feeling unwell. With Via our prayers have been answered. Not only do they have gluten free options but these options are prepared on a completely seperate part of the kitchen to ensure no contamination. Boy could we tell this. Both my partner and son had a gluten free pizza which where gorgeous and crispy and the toppings where fullsome and gluttonous, and when my son could not finish his they gladly popped it in a box for us to take home. I had a beautiful chicken parma which was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. This was accompanied by golden brown crispy chips and a lovely green salad that did not have to much garnish on which is something I often find when ordering a parma. Once this was all devoured we order some desert with my son getting gelato, my partner getting panna cotta and I got the tiramisu. All where beautiful with care taking in to each one not only in the presentation but also the taste. The tiramisu was lovely and smooth to drop my spoon into and just melted in my mouth and with my partner and son both devouring their deserts and not a single grumble about how they where feeling unwell this is a golden nugget of a find. The staff where friendly and went over and above to ensure all dietary requirements where taken care of. They engaged in conversation when we offered it and left us to our meal when they could clearly see we where happy eating away. The atmosphere of the place is lovely with you feeling comfortable that you could casually walk in but also you would not feel out of place if you had dressed up for a date night (which we have every plan on doing). In summary to those reading, you would go far from wrong if you where to take some time out of your life to come and enjoy the delights of a dinning experience at Via Ftatelli. A massive thank you all staff for the experience and we will see you again soon.
I love this place. They cater really well for special dietary requirements with GF and low-FODMAP options - it’s the only Italian restaurant I can eat in. The food is always of excellent quality and cooked to perfection. The chef is always good at whipping up a menu variation and I can call in advance to ask that a serve of calamari be set aside for me without all or the usual marinade ingredients- they once advised me that I could do this when I said I had special dietary requirements and it has been fabulous. I love that they will do that. Needless to say, it has brought them a great deal of additional customers as I drag all my family and friends there. The staff also seem to stay on longer than most other restaurants I frequent which is always a good sign, and the owners are usually present, making sure that everyone is having a positive experience. The place is usually packed for dinner. There isn’t any space for kids to run around in but they do offer colouring materials and high-chairs, along with the standard kids menu. My only criticism would be that the pizza toppings are too sparse, but then that’s what traditional Italian pizza is like so I can’t really fault them for that. My other advice would be to wear layers, as it can get very toasty in the vicinity of the wood-fired oven. Especially after a couple of glasses of vino. Book a table in advance for Fri, Sat and Sunday. Enjoy!
Visited Via Fratelli on the way back to the city from Inverloch and was looking for a good pasta feed. Via Fratelli came up on a Google search, so decided to give it a shot - and so glad I did! The food was absolutely delicious: really tasty, flavoursome pasta in a thick, rich sauce, with a pleasing quantity of meat in the dish; a lot of places cheap out on the portion, or bulk it up with pasta, but I was so glad this restaurant was generous with the amount of meat in the dish. (Please keep this up! Customers do notice the difference and they appreciate it!) Service was really friendly and attentive, and it was obvious both the co-owner, Jonathan, and the head chef of the restaurant take a lot of pride in the quality of the food they serve, and are genuine happy to receive good feedback which, in this case, was totally well-deserved. I noticed they have a wood fire oven in there too, so will be keen to pop back again soon and try one of their pizzas. If you're anywhere near Malvern East, or passing by, and fancy a really tasty, hearty pasta or pizza meal, I can highly recommend giving Via Fratelli a shot - there's a good chance you'll be pleasantly surprised.
Had dinner here last night and honestly the food is authentic Italian. My mother is Italian and a beautiful cook, we booked a table here last year for her 90th Birthday and she absolutely LOVED the lunch. We have been here many times since. Last night entree we shared mallanzane (eggplant) with a Napoli sauce and mozzarella cheese - it was yum also had a garlic pizza for entree too (large pizza with generous amount of garlic and mozzarella topping). For main course the homemade gnocchi pollo funghi (chicken and mushrooms) in a creamy sauce, also had ravioli with Napoli sauce, capsicum, spring onion and penne pasta with Italian sausage, in Napoli cream sauce. We shared the meals between us. The staff and very obliging and courteous. We all absolutely enjoyed the food. We ate too much! Definitely be back soon! Big thank you to Via Fratelli..

It might look like your regular average pizza/pasta restaurant, but Via Fratelli is above that. The food is always really, really good and the service is pretty much always spot on. It's a very casual restaurant, and certainly not fine dining, but if you're wanting that good, comforting and homely meal, that's what you'll get here. While I usually have their gnocci (which is always soft and beautiful) and have tried a chicken pizza once (and thoroughly enjoyed it), the last time I went, I ordered their special which was a homemade roasted pumpkin, sage and ricotta ravioli, with a delicious sage butter and cream sauce. It was delectable and yum. The bottom line is that with everything they have on their menu and the great service and reasonable prices, if you're after a reliable good, casual Italian meal, then this is the place. Lot's of parking on the street and a lot of space inside for a meal for two or a big party of even up to 20 or so.
Came to this restaurant for my brother's birthday recently and had a nice meal here. We ordered the arancini balls, gnocchi, the ferla pizza, the spaghetti marinara and the veal cotoletta. The arancini balls were cheesy gooey and hot a very nice way to start the meal, the gnocchi was some of the best gnocchi i've ever had, it was pillowy fluffy and absolutely delicious. The ferla pizza was quite nice although could use a bit of seasoning and more tomato sauce, the marinara was quite nice although the noodles were a bit overcooked and the cotoletta was alright but could've used some seasoning. Service was quick and waiters were kind, and the atmosphere was pleasant, seeing into the kitchen and seeing the massive woodfired pizza oven was very cool too. Overall a nice traditional relatively inexpensive italian restaurant, would reccommend.

Rude manager... telling me to not come back!! Be aware,, dine in prices is different than takeaway. I would prefer takeaway if I knew that. My suggestion is first put prices in your menu online (as I checked your menu before coming) + put a sign by the cashier + train you staff to let customers know of prices difference if they are seeing them looking at takeaway menu while they want to dine in. Scenario: I walked in, grabbed the menu, found what I needed seafood pasta for 22.9, ordered, thought I’d sit, ate,, and was shocked when I was told a price (of 28something) which I didn’t see earlier as I was ordering by the counter. I indeed refused to pay that as I find it a bit cheating and unfair, money is not an issue however. I paid 22.9 at the end while manager seems unhappy. I’ll be coming back of course to try pizza (to takeaway).
family gathering invite being sceptical of the size seen on line but on arrival we were astonished at such a well presented seating arrangements and incredible warm family atmosphere, large wood fired oven and a menu to delight any hungry eyes had all our taste buds talking, the delivery gave a truly wonderful delight with fantastic food great service that hand left us looking forward to returning to this haven.

Loved their pizza, crust is just the right thinness, nicely cooked (ie browned), lovely toppings and hot. Often pizzas are under cooked and barely warm. We stuck to the basics of the Hawaiian with mushroom. My 5 yo son loved the pizza also. We shared the kids bolognese which my son loved and I was very happy to share. Not the best bolognese but still very good. Service was excellent. We will definitely be regulars at Via Fratelli. We went for the pizza and 5/5 From my son Benjamin 8yo the bolognese and the hawaiian pizza was the best shared i rate it 5/5 you have to go
This restaurant has been a delight to eat at consistently over the past 5 years. Each of the 10+ dishes I have tried has been of great quality, each time, yet the menu remains diverse. The pollo funghi is of particular note. Additionally - the service has been exceptionally courteous and warm each time - from junior staff through to senior. It must be a deliberate initiative from management. Relative to other Italian restaurants in Melbourne the pricing is also exceptionally reasonable. Certainly recommended on all fronts

Back to this fave local on a Saturday night (3 jan) Booked and had a table arranged within half an hour of calling. Warm welcome and fresh iced water served to the table. No specials on the menu but the main menu is the same and has not changed for years.... it works. Chicken Parma was great as was my daughters gnocchi chicken with avo For me no onion or garlic in the sauce made my Parma awesome. Food issues are well catered to. Great service with awesome food. Happy new year Via Fratelli ! May 2021 be so much better that The last one.
I’m somewhat perplexed as to how this restaurant gets its current rating of 4.7 on Google. I was really hoping that it would be a case of 3rd time lucky on our 3rd visit. Unfortunately it just doesn’t stack up to what I expected in every aspect, except for the waiter who did his best and was very friendly. Meatballs were over cooked/dry and the pizza, although crispy, didn’t have the flavour of the bread that other quality places like Frattelinos or Pizza Gallery produce. Don’t let the semi authentic facade fool you.
Delicious food and such lovely service! I arrived on the wrong day for a meet up and so was « stood up » by my friend. The staff were very kind and helped me to try and contact my friend as I didn’t have a local phone card so I couldn’t call her. I ended up getting takeaway instead and chose the chicken and mushroom gnocchi. It melted in my mouth and was still hot by the time I got home. I’d highly recommend!

Excellent food. Shame wait staff are so young, they can't advise on wine but understand this through staff shortages due to pandemic affects. Would be nice for wait staff to learn a little etiquette. Trying to clear meals before they're finished and before everyone else at the table has wasn't great. Food was beautiful though, as was the ambience. As locals, we appreciate having great food in the area. Much more authentic than D'olivio which is a few doors down.
Food was great and catered to our big group. My steak was cooked perfectly. The pizzas and pastas were good portions and great flavours! All of the staff except one were delightful, they were very attentive, very friendly and welcoming. The gentleman bringing out food decided to drop the food in the middle of the table and said "sort this out yourselves" instead of delivering the food to the person who had ordered it. He didn't seem very happy.
New to the area, we got a takeaway from here because of the reviews. But unfortunately it was decidedly average. The pizza was very cheesy, not loads of flavour in anything else. The gnocchi was a lovely texture but the sauce had no flavor, the arancini again, good texture but not really any flavour, even the sauce that came with it. It all was just a bit meh. Nothing horribly disgusting but also nothing delicious. Unfortunately we won’t be back.
A nice suburban eatery. While everyone else enjoyed their food, unfortunately my potatoes were slightly burnt so a bitter flavour permeated. We came back for the gnocchi and it was awesome one again. But usually a great place to eat and very good for families.

Have been dining here for almost 8 years and have always had a great experience with friendly staff and delicious food. Jonathan has been a mainstay since the doors opened and offers a warm greeting which always sets the tone. We're now based in Camberwell with a number of great Italian restaurants around us but are happy to make the trip for the food and people.
The chicken & mushroom gnocchi was delicious. The gnocchi was very soft and the sauce tasty. The spaghetti marinara had lots of different seafood and did not dissapoint!

Ordered a special dinner for Father’s Day for my parents. Live other side of town and being in lockdown wanted to do something special. Both loved their meals. Said they were perfectly cooked, salad fresh, chips crispy and steak “cooked to perfection”. Thank you for making Father’s Day date night special for them. Keep up the great work!
it is dinner only place and rightly so. a very quiet and calm place for a good time.. we had the veg options. garlic pizza was great. cannelloni decent but a little sour. would like if they had a olive oil plate with mix spices to dip the bread. but u can ask for chilli oil to fill that. a nice place for w good wood fired pizza too
Decent pasta and pizza. Although it's definitely not $$, I enjoyed the pasta. The sauce is rich and flavourful, pasta is fresh. The pizza is great except its a bit greasy and soggy. But that might be because I left it sitting there for awhile. Portions are great and environment is cosy. Possibly coming back for a brunch session.
Absolutely amazing restaurant!! Easily one of the best Italian in Melbourne and certainly best in Malvern! We have been here multiple times and will be going again soon. The service and food has always been so amazing! Look no further for authentic Italian cuisine!! One dish not be missed is the fresh home made gnocchi!!
Came here to celebrate a special occasion and waited 45mins with a 2 year old toddler before questioning where our food was... they said they forgot to put our order through, we had to leave as our son was starving and so grumpy, worst service ever!!! Never had such a disappointing experience... and left hungry!
I’m really disappointed with this restaurant. We booked our table for 7:15pm and we arrived on time. But until 8pm, we still haven’t got any dishes being served. There’s no any explanation or apology to us. Definitely won’t come again.

We were pleasantly surprised at how much we enjoyed our experience here! Incredibly tasty and fresh pasta, generous servings, short wait times, reasonable pricing AND super friendly waiters! It’s rare to find a restaurant that ticks all of those boxes! We’ll definitely be coming back in the future …
Ok I'm calling it: Saturday night pizza here is the best I have had. 3 times now! Wow...I and some fellow diners have found that a good Friday or Saturday night pizza here is the best we have ever had. I don't say that lightly. Aside from pizza everything i have tried has been great! Lovely staff too.
Ordered from Via Fratelli for the first time on Saturday night. Ordered a Hawaiian with extra salami and chilli. Pizza was sensational light and crisp base so the ingredients shone through. They are a bit more expensive then your Dominos or Pizza hut but the quality stands out so do yourself a favour.
Reasonable meal. The rice in the arancini was overcooked and stodgy. The penne overspiced. The rocking fillet was tiny and therefore overpriced. Pizza was very good. The beef ravioli was good although had a lot of ham strips through it, which i don't remember seeing on the menu. The brulee was yummy.
Great food. Just not impressed with the young male waiter that kept hovering around the front desk talking to the young female waitress which took priority rather than providing customer service. When he attended our table to clear plates he was quite cold and nonresponsive with a poor attitude
Returned here recently for our wedding anniversary after my wife and I had our first date here 5 years ago. The wood fire salsiccia pizza was absolutely fantastic and the gnocchi and desert was also great. Best wood fire pizza and second best pizza I’ve ever had. Looking forward to returning.
Soggy pizzas, slow service, noisy, and the long narrow tables make it difficult for a large group. Perhaps 2 or 4 would work better. Worth another try.

I ordered a serve of bruschetta and a calamari salad. Congratulations! Both meals were fabulous. Delivered earlier than expected, perfectly packaged so nothing was soggy, and more than enough for lunch the next day. You’re now my local Italian …
Tasty food at decent prices. Reasonably quick and attentive service. We had someone who had "tricky" dietary requirements and they had some options to help cater for gluten free choices and things like that which really helped in those circumstances.
Cute little place with very pleasant atmosphere and super friendly staff. I only had a takeway - ravioli formaggi - but it was of the highest quality. Definitely coming back to dine in and try more goodies, and certainly somewhat from the Woodfire!
Ordered online 2 hours in advance to collect at a certain time. Saw pizzas sitting under heat lamp for 10 minutes before balance of order ready. Cold, chewy and pretty tasteless in my opinion. Ordinary experience, many better options around.
We celebrated a birthday in this wonderful place. A very welcoming place, the owner very friendly, the staff very kind and above all fast, the average price and the fabulous food. I recommend everyone to have this experience, we'll be back.

Pizzas are Paper - thin, crispy crust with fresh ingredients, just cooked perfectly and melted in your mouth! The meat balls are yummy but the chilli and garlic calamari beats it all! Tender and soft, it is simply brilliant!
Loved the atmosphere. Was a cold night and the Woodfire oven was very welcoming. Staff were extremely friendly and food sensational. Kids were cared for with some crayons and paper so great night had by all. We'll be bank.
Service was great young girl who served us was friendly and attentive but food was very average. Meat balls tasted funky like they weren't fresh. Few family members had sore stomachs next day. Pizzas were pretty good.

Fantastic pizza! Kitchen had a bit of a mix up which resulted in us having a bit of a long wait time (honest mistake). Owner was extremely apologetic and gracious, offered to not charge us for meal.
Excellent food and friendly service. Calamari awesome. Eggplant to die for. Couldn't eat another mouthful but still managed to wolf down an amazing pizza and chips and... Worth every calorie. Yum!
Sorry. One of the worst meals I've had in a long time. The lasagna was terrible. Clumpy Bolognese sauce and virtually no mozzarella. The panna cotta was grainy. Won't be returning any time soon.
