Should be considered an institution by now … i’ve never had a better cinema experience than at Kino. Never felt like cattle being herded, staff are all keen to see individual customers and greet them. It seems like they must treat them well and I hope they do because they really are fantastic. Nice mix of ‘blockbusters’ and more uncommon sort of films. Have some great festivals, i remember seeing films here that have really opened my eyes to other parts of the world and other cultures. As well as giving me a healthy dose of Swedish and French nostalgia. Appear to be intent on giving back to their customers and making the “experience” better. Oh one item of feedback actually, wine glasses don’t fit in the holes next to the seats for drinks pretty easily … I appreciate there is no sustainable solution to this, you either have to change the plastic cup holder or change glasses. Which is expensive and a waste for the environment … so i’m going to just deal with it and just be grateful that there’s a cinema where I can get a nice glass of wine with my film. Another thing, the customers all seem pretty respectful of their rules and i’ve never had an over-talker or a messy and loud person at this cinema (i’m sure they’ll have some stories but by in large it seems good). Even whilst a few years ago when we made the mistake of watching “holmes and sherlock” … which frankly could have done with a bit of interrupting. The best joke in that film was someone turning to their viewing partner and rather accidentally loudly saying “is it me or is this a steaming pile of merde?” … the 6 of us left in the room agreed and just sort of carried on being subjected to it … what a lovely shared experience. I also saw Rojo here and then wound up reading an entire 20th century history of Argentina. We’ve seen the whole world here, from Of Gods and Men to Detective Pikachu. And their prices for admission are fantastic. Yes wouldn’t it be great to have projectionists etc but you know what, in 2022, in Melbourne, for $18-25 a ticket, this is the best it gets!

Rather chilly both in the complex and the cinemas although not as chilly as the attitude from the server at the bar. Cracking a smile never hurt anyone. I also think some basic manners with disability wouldn’t go astray. There are only ‘bar’ stools and tables in the bar area (which are too high for wheelchair users) and thus excluded me from sitting in that area. Secondly, if a wheelchair user is alone, it is basic courtesy for a bar server to ask if help is needed to take drinks etc to a table. The complex is a bit grubby eg many tables had dirty cups etc during the 30 minutes I was there. It just looks tacky when the staff aren’t busy and no-one is cleaning. Perhaps it’s the cleaners job but where are they? There is good wheelchair access from the street and in the complex. There is not enough accessible seating in the cinemas but I’ve been assured more seats can be removed on request. I wrote an email several weeks ago to Kino suggesting putting access info on the website but I’m yet to hear back. All in all don’t expect personal service like at a restaurant or bar. It’s effectively just a decent cinema with a few extras not done very well.

I love coming here, movie experience is always good with the usual Hollywood fare plus the best arthouse and international movies as well. It's like an all you can eat smorgasbord of movies! The coffee is excellent, the popcorn is real, the choc tops are great, what more do you need? Well, it's set in food court, so if you come during the week, you can enjoy some Guzman y Guzman before the movie or pick up a snack at Laurent Bakery or go nuts in The Chocolate Box as well. They also have a few clothing and speciality shops, Origen being one of my favorites. You can come for the movie, but enjoy a full sensory experience while your there. McDonalds and 7/11 are right outside if your tastebuds require a bit of something else.

I love this cinema. Have been coming along to it regularly since moving to Melbourne in 1999. Some of my best cinema memories and experiences have been here. I usually prefer coming on a Sunday afternoon for the relaxed vibe. Good mix of mainstream, less mainstream, and non English language films. Audiences are generally quiet and it doesn't seem to attract annoying, noisy people. Very good venue when hosting MIFF. You can get discounted parking underneath at what I think is the Wilson car park if you get your ticket validated at the counter. Staff members have always been very friendly and courteous.

  • Darren L

I love the Kino and have been coming for years. The staff are great, very friendly and professional every time. I like the selection of movies they have on here. Clean cinemas that don't reek of popcorn. Very good selection of wines at the bar. Discounted parking at Wilson lot on Flinders lane. They scan your parking ticket so make sure you present it at the box office. Like any cinema you get annoying patrons who insist on chugging buckets of coke and popcorn, but mostly people are quiet during the film. I'm glad they are part of MIFF now. Well I hope this cinema never closes down.

Great, central cinema. Cinemas 1 & 2 are equally? large and cinema 3 is also fine; the rest are on the small side but comfy and decent. Palace has excellent service with professional and respectful staff and I feel this filters down to cinema goers in that you don’t get riff-raff here (as in, morons on their phone or generally the types who disturb others). They play fantastic movies, have decently priced wine and snacks and their membership is hands-down the best value. It’s great if you’re a student, as you can actually afford to go to the movies at $11.50

Great cinema. Convenient location right near the Spring St tram stop on Collins St. Friendly, helpful staff. Comfortable seating. The sound during the movie was comfortable and not so loud that it would blast us out of our seats like it does in other cinemas. Their website isn't the easiest to use and the online booking fee was $4.50 so we just went with tradition and turned up and bought tickets for the session we wanted. Their membership deal is worth buying, $15 per year and it paid for itself with our first visit. We'll definitely go again.

Extremely impressed with staff and management of the Kino cinema, after an incident arose in a showing of ‘The Favourite’. A fellow movie goer fell extremely unwell during the film and staff were prompt to stop the film, help the lady & keep the rest of the cinema updated with the situation. They were even kind enough to offer refunds to anyone that help their cinema experience had been interrupted. The staff members were well spoken, calm and caring during the whole situation that lasted around 20 minutes. 5 stars.

  • James C

Always a great time here. Some great food, snacks and alcohol options, unique small capacity cinema rooms. The staff are always happy to be there and are cheery and friendly to customers. We have never had any bad experiences here during screenings with people talking or using their phones, and I am yet to see any children in screenings either. If you haven't been yet, get yourself down there! Great for a date night or to catch a movie without fighting the crowds and ludicrously expensive cinema food bar.

QUIRKY ALTERNATIVE CINEMA IN THE BASEMENT OF COLLINS PLACE The Kino is more an A'trhouse" cinema than a regular chain cinema and is tucked away in the lower level of Collins Place. There is a food court and shopping mall in the same space. Trams run right past on Collins Street. The cinema has relatively small theatres with comfortable seats. The main entry is via a staircase from the Collins Street ground floor foyer but there are also lifts for people with mobility issues. Toliets on site.

Arthouse films, something different from the usual "bang bang" tire squeeling mainstream. There ARE movies beyond Hollywood and this is one place to see them. European, UK films make it to this place... Many theatres, nice ambience, good info on the movies, reviews etc... All pinned up on the walls. Take your food n drinks in with you, I think the liability lawyers haven't yet scared the management into prohibiting that again... But they might be working on it ,.

  • Hansaniee Kora

Perhaps not the cinema to watch an action movie. Watched the new Thor and at ~$19pp for members (including a $1.70pp online booking fee) it was almost as expensive as a usual cinema (Jam factory vmax is $21.50) but the cinema 7 that was screening it was quite small. Plus there was a box kind of thing on the ceiling to the left which distracts you. Sound was average. Have watched a few movies here during COVID time at $5pp. hosts international film screenings which is good.

  • Sarah Browne

The cinemas are very comfortable, clean, and cosy. The cinemas themselves seem more oriented for adults, as you can bring alcohol into the cinemas. The only downside is that the cinemas are very small, and there's no allocated seating, so it's really recommended to be there at least 10 minutes before the movies starts, or you may get bad seats. If you're there with a partner, you may also not get seats together, unless you're there on time.

Shhh - this is the best place in Melbourne for catching a movie (and we live in outer south eastern suburbs). Reason: The under cover car park provides consistancy of experience regardless of heat, cold, wind or rain. Oh - did I say surrounds are interesting to the eyes, and taste buds? And the movie choices are not too mainstream (ok, so this means it is not going to be a fav for young families). I hope I don't regret posting this ;-)

  • Helen Salt

We had such a great time watching our Movie of choice at this Theatre. People came in with their glass of wine or coffee to enjoy whilst watching the Movie as well. The only thing I would say as advice is, if you need to sit back a good distance from the screen is. Make sure you go in to choose your seats as soon as the doors are open for your session to start. I am really looking forward to going back to this Cinema again very soon.

  • Jim

As a veteran of the cinema industry both as an employee and a punter the one thing I find consistent about Palace cinemas is their lack of meaningful customer service (even compared to Hoyts and GU). This cinema is modest with smaller cinemas suitable for art house, rom coms, dramas and the like, I would not come here to see a blockbuster action film and I wouldn’t come here to have your customer service expectations exceeded.

  • Changmin Sun

Kino cinema is part of the Palace cinema network, and the only one in Melbourne Downtown that shows film festival movies all year round. In the past few months, I've watched Italian film festival, Japanese film festival & British Film Festival movies here. I love Kino cinema for its casual atmosphere & comfortable seats. Tip: you can bring in your own drinks and snacks

  • Zoe

I came here to watch The French Dispatch, the cinema we were in was the tiniest cinema i’ve ever been in which i thought added to the experience and was very quaint. Right next to the cinema they had a room set up with props for the movie and a pile of sort of magazines for the movie which i thought was so fun!! I definitely want to come back to this cinema again :)

  • Peter M

The Kino is great EXCEPT ‘new’ Cinema No 8. Cinema 8 is a separately located uncomfortable lecture style auditorium – I found the seats are most uncomfortable after an hour or so, the arm rests are hard wood and hurt, the lecture tray that substitutes as a drink rest is useless as it’s on an angle. At least the conference style toilets are nice.

  • Valerie Ng

This is my favourite cinema in Melbourne due to the fact that I live on Collins St and the tickets are cheap. It still shows a good range of films and the screens are generally fairly large for such a low price and as a non-blockbuster cinema. It's also situated on the edge of a food court so you can easily grab a quick meal before watching.

  • carol duncan

Fabulous movie venue with a number of theatres to choose from and a great selection of films. Take your glass of wine and relax in comfort at the movie of your choice. Become a member and keep up to date with the movies showing and what's coming. Being a member if you drive there you are also eligible for 2 hours free parking. Enjoy

  • Nathan Cicigoi

I have been a Palace Cinema member for quite sometime now and all their venues are top quality. The Kino is no exception. The cinemas are very comfortable, the bar is well stocked and the facility as a whole is in keeping with Collins Place as a whole. I always love going not just to see a movie but to enjoy the ambience.

  • Adrien Toïgo

A good variety of movies showing, but the different theatres can be kind of a mixed bag. Some are very small and hard to get through when crowded. But the atmosphere is nice and easy, sophisticated (the glass of wine at the bar does help); and most importantly the screens and technical setups are top-notch.

  • Simon Upton (Simon G Upton)

Comfortable seats, temperature moderate ie not too cold. No issues with picture or sound quality. Being located in larger complex lots of eating options immediately outside and goid place to meet ahead of time. Only small issue location and number of toilets, not enough but it is a fairly small place

  • Cathay Freeman

I really like coming here on Monday. The prices are $8.50 each for adults and they show the latest movies. The cinemas are small and cozy and the chairs are comfortable. Only problem is if the cinema is really full and you have to sit near the front where it can be quite uncomfortable for your eyes.

  • Neil Boyack

Slow burn, beautifully acted, shot & edited. Symbolic of the status quo in Australian black-white relations but also touching human commonality. Broken people trying to support broken people, in a landscape that can wait forever. A must see for all Oz film fans. We make the best films in the world.

  • Michelle Lian

Super crowded on Mondays due to cheap tickets and your tickets don't come with seat numbers. The cinemas are tiny so be sure that you arrive super duper early for your session otherwise you'll end up sitting right in front of the big screen in a tiny space. Really unpleasant experience.

  • Jennifer Hodgson

Stylish cinema screening a diverse range of films. Have a very good movie club for all ages. Movies at Kino are $8.50 for sessions before 5pm then $9.50 on Mondays. Easy access at Collins Place. Also serves meals, coffee and good quality wines. Happy hour from Tuesday after 5.00pm.

  • veronica tenant

My second home- easily accessible by tram/train. very helpful and friendly staff. interesting films: some blockbusters and independent films and film festivals, good popcorn and a good range of food- from pasta to salads to lollies. No allocated seating so the queues move quickly.

  • Patrizia Bordignon

I love this cinema. It is tucked away inside Collins Place where there is a great food court to stave off hunger before or after seeing a film. The cheese platter hit the spot in between watching two Italian movies for IFF22. Don’t forget to look up and admire the glass ceiling!

  • Lares Munkholm

A nice little cinema with lots of seats. The screen was big and the image was fine, the sound was good and most important of all, the popcorn were plenty and salty, so I'm happy. Not the best cinematic experience I've ever had, but far from the worst. All in all, average.

  • Mike Smith

Art house cinema nestled cosily within Collins Place, one block from Parliament Station. Surrounded by plenty of quality, quick meal and snack options. Nice film selections. Seven cinemas of various sizes, all with comfortable seating, most with good vision and sound.

  • Zachary Barr

Kino is a great place - except Cinema 8 which is just a lecture theatre Kino must be leasing. Uncomfortable sitting there over an hour and not a lot of space, no cup holders etc. If your session is unallocated it’ll be in the cinema and I wouldn’t bother going!

  • Dean Tan

Watched past lives in cinema 2. Seats are extremely comfortable and spacious, sound and picture are great, overall a fantastic experience. Tickets are cheap on mondays ($7) and wednesdays ($9). Definitely recommend visiting kino instead of hoyts or crown

  • Kiran Lalwani

Depends on the cinema you go to I’ve been to cinema 1 which was bigger and better than cinema 7 Non recliner seats but they are comfortable Food wasn’t available both times since we’d been there after 8:30pm.. enjoyed with a glass of wine however :)

  • Kanga ROO

Great cinema comfortable, cosy, feels private and homely, our movie needed a bit more volume and bass however (maybe I'm a little deaf) so we could "feel" the movie ... very easy for me to go back for another enjoyable movie again.. ! Thank you !

  • schmy seymour

The cinemas range from "this screen is perfect and no obstructions" to "if it wasn't for the person's head blocking my view, this would be a cozy shoe box". But the staff are great and the wine glass drink sizes alone are worth checking out.

  • Lochlan Hughes

It's a great cinema with a fantastic vibe in an unusual place. Good sound and picture but if they say you're in cinema 8 just wait for home release or find another cinema showing. It's just an auditorium with lecture theater style seating,

  • Erfan Rezaei

Small cinema (cinema 1), however the audio and video quality were good. The seats are not that comfortable. It caused me some pain in the knees. Only middle part has acceptable view angles. I would say don’t book the left and right wings.

  • Carolyn Valka

Easy to find venue with multiple nearby options for a meal before or after the movie. There are plenty of options available at the cinema as well in terms of food and drink- enjoy a glass of wine in a spacoius, clean cinema. Toilets are

  • Eugenia de la Lámpara

My favorite cinema in the city. They have especial offer with sparkling wine, the staff is great! And the rooms have great screen, sound and comfy seats. It is a cinema part of place groups and have great discount on tickets. i love it!

  • Kie [ChickenKied]

Went for the Japanese Film Festival 2021, enjoyable film and great atmosphere in the theatre. Staff were friendly and super helpful in guiding us around as we had never been before. Area is really nice, nearby shops and a food court.

  • Annabelle Leve

Lovely being able to take my drink into the theatre. Very small area for seating (I guess this is more the norm now) and decent view of screen but not the most satisfying seating for big screen viewing. Great film selection though!

  • 2010Wilde

Great cinema. Love Cinemas 1 and 2 where they come with a five person box seat. My favourite spot to sit. Also love their lobby area, where they play jazz music. Great place to read a book while you wait for your film to start.

  • C M

The sound quality in the smaller cinemas is very poor, it's like hearing it in mono rather than stereo. The larger cinemas appear to have a better sound quality. Coffee is surprisingly good. Service is slow and frustrating.

  • Emma Olofsson

Cinema in the business precinct of CBD, went to see The Creator on release day in the evening and had no trouble with seating. Regular and lux seating options, small concession stand and alcoholic beverages available.

  • Sisiely Wong

This is hands down my favorite cinema in town. Really comfy seats and I get to have an Epic pour of wine. While not having to worry about the etiquette (or lack of) by other patrons. Always an enjoyable experience.

  • Malcolm Young

If you're a fan of the smaller cinematic experience, similar to the likes of Nova, Kino's your jam. With reflective prices and always discounted tickets, you do get a smaller screen with less immersive sound.

  • Amanda Talley

This place is lovely. I really like their smaller theaters. They show a lot of stuff that doesn't make it into bigger venues. The popcorn is outstanding and I highly recommend the boysenberry dipped cones.

  • Kevin Biasi

Excellent experience cinema designed to ensure yiur vie is not blocked, and you can purchase alcohol and drink it the cinema but remember to be polite and take your empty glass out at the end of the movie.

  • Melwitz Folino

My favourite Cinema to go to has always wonderful ambiance and so very clean Great Films and terrific leisurely seats Highly recommend this hidden gem in the heart of Collins St …

  • Mighty Brown Mouse

My favourite inner city art house cinema. Fantastic sound system, great staff - always very helpful and public transport is a breeze to get there. And so close to great restaurants and bars, I love it!

  • Charlotte Murfin

Love going on a Monday where they do $10 tickets. Modern classic cinemas, lots of space, cup holders, food and drink options and friendly staff. A great vibe, everyone is there to have a fun time.

  • David Bore

Nice small and intimate Very lowkey and quiet The quality of the sound and visuals does not really compare to cinemas such as HOYTS but it makes up for it with the ambiance Great place to try out

  • Travis Szolkowski

Comfortable seats and a good range of art house movies here. I was lucky to get $5 tickets during a special promotion. Let's hope those prices last a little longer. Thanks Palace Kino …

  • Night Writer

First time there and I loved the place. Friendly and helpful staff. Nice bar selection. Cool waiting areas. Great ticket prices. Looking forward to the next time I have a Monday night off.

  • ScorpioTango

What I like about Kino on Collins is its privacy. Cozy small rooms with large comfortable sofa-like seats. We can bring in glass of wine not cup. I feel more luxury watching movies here.

  • Thao Tran

A nice small theatre. Wished they would push more for safety regulations against COVID-19, that way I wouldn’t sit next to a coughing and sneezing patron in the cinema for two hours:(

  • Gilly Jaxson

Best cinema in down... Friendly, smiley, pleasant staff who are always helpful. Relaxed venue. If you are a movie buff, great movie club. Lots of special events, A must go!!

  • David Jones

I have attached haven't been to the cinema for two years now, but I but it is still is a great coffee, cold drink, nibbles or even a cake whenever I'm at Collins Place!

  • John Lamp

We have been here before, and the high standard continues. Theatres are very clean, the staff are very helpful and choc tops are there! What's cinema without them?

  • Leslye Thies

We love Kino! When we are in the city, we frequently catch 2-3 movies here. Prices are great as members and we get a bottle of wine and enjoy the experience.

  • NTED

Pretty fancy cinema in a smaller cinema which i really enjoyed, I watched an Italian film here and it was pretty good, I remember the popcorn being good, 3.5

  • Toby

not only is cinema 8 needlessly confusing to get to (no signage???) its screen is also terrible made the black and white oppenheimer scenes look blue …

  • Carl Hill

A great theatre to see your favourite movie. Several separate theatres and each are small seat numbers with very comfortable seating and great leg room.

  • Kris Rosentreter

Good cinema! Staff at the bar were a bit rude - not to me, just a lady next to me dying for a glass of water Doesn’t matter where u sit, all good views

  • Lynus Eng

Comfortable little cinemas. Very clean and well maintained. Service was excellent, and you can bring drinks into the cinema. What more could you want?

  • Kat Lodder

Really enjoyed the premiere of Little Women here, executed really well when it came out and I enjoy having a wine and some cheese in the cinema too

  • David Newton

Great service and a welcoming venue the staff are excellent, they're intelligent and passionate about art house films. Always great to visit.

  • Geoff Prince

Nice bar space out front, never over-crowded, cinemas always clean and, while not quite an art house venue, there are always good movies on.

  • Bronwyn Nichols

Affordable Monday now extended for Seniors, every midweek morning, you can't beat an $8 movie, comfy chairs, good selection of movies too

  • Mary Squillace

Love the old style cinemas pray they restore them always to the original look. Although it's a little darker in the cinema than normal.

  • Britt

Have been here a few times and it's a lovely cinema on Collin Street - Melbourne. On Mondays they charge AUD7 for a movie before 4 PM.

  • violetta mironova

They usually have a great movie collection for my taste (I love foreign and art house). Comfortable seats, very nice customer service.

  • Clifton Theodore

Going to this cinema was a great experience, however what made it was one staff member who had an impressive knowledge of film.

  • Bella M

Nice cinema, comfortable seats, good selection of movies as well! It was just a bit dirty around the dining / waiting area.

  • Leeanne Laidlaw

I had a very pleasant experience at Kino cinema. The facilities were clean and comfortable, and the choc tops delicious.

I liked the cinema very much. The seats were comfortable & the setting in the middle of the city is very nice

  • Matteo Curcio

An excellent multi-room cinema with multiple food/drink options, excellent movies programming and cozy seats

  • nancy bezerra

Had a very soft and delicious cranberry and white chocolate muffin with a soy cappuccino for only $8.50!!

  • Jesse M

How a cinema is experience should be. Staff are always friendly. Boutique feel in the middle of the city

My second favourite Palace cinema. The crowd it attracts is undeniably one that really loves cinema.

  • Joseph Cai

Nice little cosy cinema with affordable ticket prices. Definitely worth another visit in the future

  • paula harb

Unstaffed! Very slow service, missed the beginning of the movie due to long waits at candy bar

Love the warm and cozy vibe of this cinema. Much better than the bigger theatres in the city.
