Firstly I will say that it has been a while since I visited, what a disappointment as it is incredibly run down. The cinema was a ghost town, disappointing for a weekend. Then we discovered that their online booking system is confusing and we ended up buying tickets for the wrong place (Balwyn instead of Sth Yarra)... the person that served us at Sth Yarra told us it is a very common mistake due to the booking system being very confusing, so he asked us to purchase new tickets and then stated we could obtain a refund from Balwyn, it would be recorded in our membership profile. We bought new tickets and watched the movie in an empty theatre... I then applied for a refund and was asked to produce proof of the new ticket purchase, I referred them to my membership which had the ticket purchase evidence.. they then came back and stated that by 'law' they were not obliged to refund any tickets purchased in error. So where to now? I guess with service this poor it is no wonder that the cinema is going under, with any luck it will close down or get taken over by a more competent management team. They know their system is flawed, many people get caught in the trap, and they are unwilling to provide refunds even with all the evidence.. if they think they can make more money by tricking people into paying twice, think again, because they just lost recently re-captured patrons! Dishonest, unclean, run down.. yep that sums it up!
I have watched a lot of film in cinemas… this is the first time the lights came on before the credits even started. This film has one last important monologue right at the end of the film. Shocked! I like Palace Cinema Como, I like smaller independent cinemas that screen all kinds of interesting films. So it pained me to have to complain. I went to the desk to inform more than complain. Not the sales desk but normally has someone there which does have a sign saying all sales at the bar which is literally a few metres down the same counter. Clear line of site. The staff could see me waiting, it was quite they were joking with each other. After I realised I was going to have to flag them down they reluctantly responded. The attitude was not of caring but what can we do for you to go away. I went away and then thought better if I don’t get a refund then theres no record of my complaint. On my return they were again having a good old laugh. I was then asked a heap of questions what movie, which cinema, did I have my ticket, did I have my card on me, etc. I did loose my cool. I did have my online booking thankfully. Also the toilets were very dirty and the cubicle I was going to use had a broken seat barely still attached to the toilet bowl.
Movie at the Como was late starting. After 10 mins of all the audience waiting and wondering what was happening I went and found someone out the back. The response was oh yes we are trying to get it working. I said well I think it would be a good idea if you came and spoke to the audience who are sitting inside as it is nearly 15 minutes since the expected start time. The young man then came a few mins later into the theatre and said if anyone would like a refund they would do that. They couldn’t get the movie going There was no offer of compensation for the people who had travelled some distance and wasted the afternoon. After some of the audience, they agreed to put a Spanish film on for the people who had not seen it. Please note this was only after they were asked. I did discuss this with a manager at the counter but again there was no offer of compensation. While I do understand there were problems with the projection and these things happen. I do not believe it was good customer service A waste of an afternoon.
This is the second time I’ve been to this cinema and the first time I ignored the ignorance of the young lady serving who was disinterested in helping me select a movie as all sessions had begun. Unfortunately today was the same. While waiting for my daughter to complete a dance class across the road and leaving for Sydney tomorrow morning, I again ventured into this cinema to pass the time. With absolutely no one at the counter, I was totally ignored by two men standing behind the counter! Very poor customer service especially when one gentleman literally walked right up to me to place something on the desk. Somehow I continued to remain ‘invisible.’ I was not made to feel welcome at all and would not return based on Feeling unwelcome twice. It has made me appreciate Sydney as I have never been treated like this in all the years I’ve gone to the movies.
Love love love Palace cinemas at Como... Almost want to give a severely bad rating so no one else goes but, I can't do that! Smaller, more intimate, and more personable than the bigger cinemas. 99% of the time you don't have prepubescent teens there so people are well behaved, friendly and just better to be around. The seating is comfortable, the screens are big enough, and the staff are very friendly. A fair selection of alcohol and snacks from the bar, and process are reasonable for a theatre. A great experience every time. The range of movies is a little different to the mainstream theatres, but really how many superhero. Movies do you need to see? Many thumbs up for Palace Como
We loved this place, and it was our cinema to go to, however, we’ve faced shockingly rude, aggressive, and utterly unacceptable behaviour by staff at the bar during the last visit over a disagreement regarding face mask wearing. The lady speaking to us was loud, rude, and self righteous and above all, wrong. They also were enforcing face masks when one of their own staff members had theirs under nose less that 5 meters away. This was the end of it for us. Just like there is no justification for abusing staff, there is absolutely no justification for staff to be rude and aggressive towards customers. Como Palace is not a cinema we would return to.
My sister and I love this Cinema. Staying at the Como Hotel within the complex, we had a 3 day film fest all on our own! It is winter now, and it was pretty cold out on the street. The staff are very friendly and helpful, given I was in my disability scooter. The young lass let us in the side door, which took us to the front of the first row of seats, so I didn't have a problem getting to my seat. We always get a choc-top, but there is lots to eat or drink if needed. The furnishings are just lovely and this, combined with the staff, make this a very welcoming Cinema.
Great selection of non-children movies. It's really lovely to be able to go to a cinema that caters for adults. We always arrive early, have a glass of wine or a cocktail before with something light to eat. We then take a large glass of wine (each) into the theatre to enjoy with the film. I would recommend this for adults wanting to get away from the kids and have a good night out. Some say it's expensive-but we think it's worth it and indulge a few times a year. Tram 58 and South Yarra station means you can leave the car at home too.
Just came back from watching spiderman no way home in the palace platinum (equivalent to the gold class). I am very very impressed by the comfort of the chair, the interior design of the cinema, the cleanliness of the space and the friendliness of the staff members. For me, it is even better than the gold class at hoyts chadstone and village rivoli despite of the fact that there is no complimentary popcorn, which is not priority to me which pale in comparison to other pros stated above. Will definitely come back in the future.
I've only been here once for a special screening for the opening of the German Film Festival two years ago. It was a nice place, in a shopping centre, and had an appropriate event space for people to serve canapes and wine. The seats I remember were quite low for the screen, but I enjoy looking up at cinema screens so it depends really on your personal preference. I think like with all Palace cinemas it has a fairly generic sense of classiness which is quite pleasant but also makes it lack a bit of character.
This cinema used to be so nice, and a treat to come to. Went to a Saturday evening film and was really disappointed by the state of the Como now. The toilets were a nightmare, no better than Flinders Street Station. There was water all over the floor, no soap in half the dispensers, one toilet clogged, paper everywhere, and they stank. The cinema we were in (1) also hadn't been cleaned between films - there was rubbish and wine glasses still next to the seats. For $28 I'd at least expect a clean cinema.
Great venue and a great looking interior! Actually looks amazing and transports you back to a bygone era of opulence! The only criticism is that some of the cushions and seating material have started to tear and is letting this amazing space look a little tired. The staff are friendly and choc tops are great. Cinema seating is comfortable and spacious. Overall a really good experience and only $10 to park your car after validation.
Had a delightful evening with my partner tonight at Palace Cinema Como. The person who served us was warm and friendly and made us aware that if we signed up our tickets would be cheaper, but not in a pushy way. The movie was delightful (I guess nothing to do with the cinema but if you have the chance to see “Land” - do!), and the same person who served us was just as warm when we left as when we arrived.
We booked to see a platinum movie here and the staffs service was great. There were some technical difficulties for our screening and the supervisor came in and truly went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable. Even refunding the money back, and giving us drinks as well. They managed to get it working in the end. Thanks to the staff at platinum como for a wonderful experience.
Nicely appointed and comfortable cinema within the up market Como complex of Toorak Rd. Quality cinemas with good sound, generous seating and leg room. A very nice licensed cafe cum snack bar which serves as a nice pre and) or post cinema meeting point. Surrounded by ba wide choice of eating and drinking options in Toorak Rd and Chapel St. Easy walking distance to South Yarra Station
Become a member and get good perks Olive oil popcorn rocks Wine prices are steep for average quality Be careful when sitting down in the front seats as they are set lower and tilted back Make sure to go to the film festivals as they are much better than most of the American and Aussie offerings regardless of the hype Respect the staff - they work hard for you ! Enjoy
Been quite a few years since I have visited this cinema, after it's last revamp. It's looking tired now. I was disappointed that they don't offer anything substantial to eat. Had to go and find an eatery, would have been convenient to dine there. Sure I have previously. The movie was very enjoyable. But I would probably prefer the Rivoli with it's rooftop bar next time.
It's like going back on time: small screen, small theatre, chairs don't recline, you're looking upwards to the screen because the slope is minimum, and very basic snacks. Obviously it's meant to be for an older generation to reminisce how they used to watch movies and that's why the crowd is older too. If we have nicer and better amenities now, why not to enjoy them!?
I have watched many movies here now. It's always enjoyable. Not many people choose this cinmea, so it's nice and quiet. They offer happy hour on fridays, and the pricing for snacks aren't ridiculous like other cinmea's are! however, I don't think I've ever experienced such a small cinmea screen in my life as I did here for Mr. Wick 4.
We went to a screening of the Covent Garden production of "Das Rheingold". The cinema was very comfortable and the production was challenging, exciting and magnificently sung. Such a great cast. It was just a pity that there weren't more people at the screening. Directed by Barrie Kosky, this production is well worth catching.
one bad one good review. I think the charge for booking online is too much, particularly in these times eg: booked 6 tickets booking fee was $10.20. Asked staff to help a man who seems a bit confused and unsteady with a walking stick to find correct theater, glad to say a young man, staff member, immediately went to his aid
It has been awhile since I went to the movies here, but I was pleasantly surprised at the comfortable seats and the small intimate cinemas. It is nice to be able to take drinks in real glasses. It was a 830pm session movie we saw and hence it was super quiet which I found perfect. Highly recommended for movie date night.
The place itself is all right, but it all depends on your luck when you watch a movie - there could be (mainly) artsy people who try to be fancy (and watch French and art movies), but really don't have manners. Can make noise during the movie. So yeah, the facility is nice, but the patrons, not so much. Good luck.
I'm very happy with the quality of this cinema. They have indie films and mainstream, and much newer and nicer decor than the big cinemas. There's no reason to go elsewhere. The smaller cinemas are great! We're loving the Scandinavian Film Festival so far, yet also excited for Greta Gerwig's take of Barbie.
Was an unpleasant experience with the staff at the bar who ask me “have to” place older by scan code on the table. Wasn’t a busy scenario and there was a menu on the bar. Why even have menu there if you don’t allow ppl order at the bar? Eventually I got my order. But yeah, had such a welcoming attitude.
The Como is a really nice cinema, it makes a refreshing change from others as it's designed in its own distinctive style. Although pretty much all Palace cinemas are nice and well worth visiting. Customer service is usually good though a little brusque in some cases, this applies to all Palace cinemas
Great cinemas to see the more arthouse movies and the great regional festivals such as the Scandinavian film festival, the Italian film festival etc. One of the benefits is that there is always parking downstairs and by getting your parking ticket validated, you get a flat rate of $10 for parking
Classy little cinema that beats the big ones hands down. If you want a glass of wine, you can order this at the bar any take it into any movie you like. Reasonable drink prices and special offers on different nights, like $10 cocktails. Take a look at what they have on offer when you visit.
Great cinema with a great selection of movies. If you want a blockbuster or something arthouse Palace cinemas always have you covered. The Como is easy to get to, lots of public trsnsport options, and lots of places around if you want a coffee or meal pre- or post-film
Am in Platinum Cinema Palace At Como South Yarra Screening of " No Time To Die" Comfort, Cosy And Comfortable.. A Relaxing Cinema With Bar And Lounge. Feeling Spacious And Homely Entertainment Environment. Highly Recommend For Future Movie-Goer 4 Stars out of 5 Stars
Joined the 60+ Movie Club online yesterday but could not book tickets despite responding to email confirming address. Called the conema 4 hrs later, no one eould help me. There goes "Past Lives"! Maybe this means one has to join Platinum & pay the fee of $13.50.
amazing decor, like wow definitely the fanciest cinema I've ever been. the actual cinema room i went to didn't have much incline, so if someone were to sit in front of me, i bet my view of the screen would be impeded. good thing there was only five of us there!
For the design and the quality of the building got some cocktails no "fine strain", the bathrooms are not really smelling good and many times missed or paper or a trash in there!! But still going there because every Tuesday is half price. Good point.
The decor is amazing and the cinemas are nice and cosy! Very clean (even the toilets are clean) and althogh the rooms and screens are quite small, it didn't take away from the experience at all! -1 star for limited snack bar and 'eh' alcoholic drinks
One of my favourite cinemas. Curates good films, has a money back offer if you don’t like the film and leave within 30 mins, good food and beverage selection, easy parking (although costs around $10). Would rate it 5 star if the screens were bigger.
Love Palace Como. It has a beautiful foyer and the seats in the cinemas are super comfy. The staff are great - they were so nice when I accidentally booking at the wrong cinema. Happy hour cocktails on a Friday, too! What more could you want?
A cozy, trendy yet classic place for all your latest blockbuster movies plus more. It particularly has a quaint atmosphere during the film festivals. Conservative patrons frequent this cinema, you feel like you're in another world altogether.
Palace strike the perfect balance between sophistication in a relaxed cinema setting. Usually going to the cinemas is an ordeal surrounded by screaming children, tacky blockbuster foyers and loud looping trailers. Palace avoids all of this
Cannot believe this place has 4.5 stars, maybe I came at a bad time? Palace cinema maybe attempts to set an idea in your head of an expensive and boujee place worthwhile an experience, but the only boujee thing about it is the hint of some
Buy a seat for Platinum gets you a seat, that semi reclines. Claims to be better than Gold Class, not sure why, so avoid this. You need to offer something with this otherwise you are so behind the times and with offensive prices. Not even
I went to see the latest Tom Hanks movie last Saturday 02/02/2020 at 6:30pm. The movie was very good however constant chatter amongst the audience was to say the least annoying. I politely asked the couple behind me to stop talking which
Como is one of my favourite cinemas in Melbourne. Located at a good venue. Spacious and easy to access. They provide parking discount for film goers too. Staff is nice and helpful. Seats are comfortable. Will definitely keep coming back.
Boutique Cinema Complex the seats are not necessarily the most comfortable unfortunately but it does have one massive feature a grand piano in the front with the ability for anyone to play as if you are going. It also has not a bad bar.
Someone left the lights on in projector area & ruined our experience. I would of told a staff member but couldn't find anyone during the last session. Despite this, very comfy seats. Some cinemas have seats wayyyyy to close to screen.
I am a club member which is very beneficial to your ticketing price and they send you emails updates regarding what is on and you can book online very easily. Lovely surroundings the furniture and the bathrooms are just wonderful
For 3 years in a row I have been member from Palace. Always with promotions and discounts for us. My favourite cinema in Melbourne. Always with nice movie festivals. Highly recommended! No many noisy people like Village or Hoyts.
An enjoyable experience and choice of film. The staff are friendly and helpful. I didn't leave Como unsatisfied. The cinema was typical Palace quality with a good selection of movies and most importantly comfortable seats.
Saw a film today in the Palace Platinum cinema. Super comfortable recliners in a mid sized room. Feels very cozy and intimate. Beautifully decorated in an art deco style and a more modern approach in the platinum area.
One of the most elegant cinemas I’ve been to. The inside decor is gorgeous and the cinema staff are lovely. Toilets are clean and quaint. The cinemas aren’t too big either. Will definitely come back here again.
The cinema itself had great comfy chairs, and was what you’d expect. The massive downside was the absolute reek of urine in the toilet hallway. Like someone had peed on the carpet outside the men’s room. Eww.
Despite website saying they’re y open from 7:30am at 9.30 am I was told they were closed. I guess Village cinema vouchers will have to do. The indignation about their website saying they were open sealed it
Such beautiful place that it makes the movie experience a whole more special. Worth arriving a bit earlier for session to chill out at gorgeous foyer enjoying a cool drink from the bar or coffee & cake!
I go to Como every week and it's always a great experience. They have a good selection of films that you won't see at Hoyts or Village. What's better than being able to bring your wine into the cinema?
Enjoyable enough filmgoing experience, it could have been helped by a better organisational area for larger groups and a cleaner seating area too. Even still, it's a fine place to see a smaller film.
Great selection of movies, not just your usual Hollywood blockbusters. I really enjoy the epic level glasses of wine to get you through a long movie. Great priced tickets on tight arse Tuesday!
Nice venue. However the the quality of the movie in the cinema I was seated in was extremely poor. The brightness was so low I couldn’t see any part of the movie that was filmed in low light.
It was easy to get to from South Yarra Train Station. Palace Cinema Como was very clean and very comfortable. I would recommend this Cinema for sure and l can't wait to go back again .
I love this cinema. The interior is luxe which adds to the cinematic experience. Although it is an effort to get to it inside the centre as it is upstairs to the rear of the complex.
Great theatre, their choc tops are the best. So many good films to see in this lovely cinema. Love the film festivals!! Treat yourself to a Palace cinema membership, well worth it.
Como is the cinema that makes you return for more! Elegant hall decorations and wide range of drinks at the bar. The waiting lounge is convenient for a short chat before the film.
This is one of my favourite theatres. In part because of the smallish size of each of the cinemas, so that one always has a great seat, but also because of the complex's decor.
Clean, classy, cinema. Have been many times over the past 10 years, mostly for foreign film festivals. Parking in Como is validated at the cinema, so you get a discount.
Good smaller cinema. Platinum Class (Gold Class) is great. Tou can order anytime to tour seat via QR code. Menu for food and drinks is reasonably good. Worth a look.
My favourite cinema! Love the location, the movie selection, popcorn and the option to enjoy a glass of wine. Very friendly service, Hayden was great! Will be back!
Grace and I had an amazing time at the opening night of the British Film Festival. The chairs are comfy, the sound system is good and the screen is big and clear.
I love everything about this cinema. The decor adds to the experience and turns a trip to the movies into a special night out. Please never change! And thank you!
I love it! The seats are so comfortable and the gold class isn’t over priced. I booked the wrong tickets and the staff were super helpful and fixed it up for me.
The Palace Como is always a great cinema to see a foreign film. Nice, comfortable and spacious. The staff were lovely and ensured we were happy with our drinks.
Such a magnificent cinema. Easy parking, lovely bar and snacks, great decor and all 'round experience. Such great staff! Excellent for private functions too.
The ticket sellers were unfriendly, trying to get us to pay more for a choice we didn't need. I do not appreciate this attitude of service. Negative review.
Just when I realised the screen isn't much bigger than the living room....the movie begun and the screen got smaller. Should have watched it on my iphone 5.
My favourite movie house. Small, intimate theatres, comfortable seats, and good sound. The ambience is lovely, especially with no kids most of the time.
Coming from the Westside we felt like peasants at the fancy Palace cinema. It had a great atmosphere and nice change of scenery to our normal venues.
Love the Palace cinemas. Each one is unique. Great decor and architecture. Diverse selection of movies, including many international film festivals
Fantastic roster of films to watch, comfortable and unique cinemas. Where would we be without Palace? A Melbourne institution of the highest value.
Beautiful cinema, lovely staff and reasonably priced tickets. Popcorn was delicious too. Would be keen to come back when I’m in Melbourne again.
Watched Tasting. Great place great staff and I had a mint choc top, breaking with my standard vanilla. I think it might be mint from now on.
Glitzy event well hosted for German film fest. Such a great location. Ensure you use the right Como parking for the discounted parking fee.
It’s a little bit of luxe. Carparking downstairs is convenient & you get a discount from $14 to $10 if you validate it in the cinema.
nice seats, you can have drink in the cinemas, and even a cocktail can be order, tea and coffee and cakes available as well
Great place to relax and enjoy the cinema. This place is very charming with a few very good places to have a coffee after.
Such a beautiful Cinema. Came to watch Westwood. Parking available around the corner connected to the building.
Really enjoyed my visit, unique theatre setting, olde world decor feels so luxurious can't wait to go again.
First time here. Nice little cinema with plenty of room & comfortable seats. Will definitely go back again.
When to see an Italian movie there with family and was very impressed by the Cinema and coffee shop there.
Disappointed in the level of rubbish in the theatre not to mention the disgusting toilets. Half a star.
Extra comfortable theatre. Very friendly staff. Easy to get to on two major tram routes.
Spacious and pleasant venue. Good location to meet your friends and family.
It's a funky place, very artistic. Small selection of snacks, good bar.
Love the atmosphere, always a pleasure to watch a movie at The Palace.
Happy with the $12 Tuesday tickets. Small cinema but I liked that
Toilets smelly- not clean- toilet floors sticky- terrible stuff
Great cinema chain that show a wtde variety of movies
Friendly and lovely staff. Very good local cinema
Cheap, Luxurious. I love this movie theatre!
Cute cosy little cinema! Well worth a visit
Really nice cinema, very clean and calm
It's a really good movie venue
Love movies here very clean
