Image: STOCK IMAGE The City of Johannesburg has assured residents that there would be no unusual water supply disruptions during the Rand Water-planned maintenance. This is after residents raised concerns about the impact of the planned maintenance on water supply within the city. Joburg Water spokesperson Isaac Dhludhlu said they have been in consultation with Rand Water in order to ensure that the planned maintenance has minimal impact on residents. “During the maintenance period the Rand Water purification plant will still be operational and will supply water to our water supply systems for the duration of valve installation so as to help in efforts to replenish our reservoirs. Rand Water will also supply water via the Palmiet and Eikenhof pump stations to Joburg Water reservoirs,” Dhludhlu said. He said Rand Water will ensure that prior to the commencement of the shutdown, all reservoirs supplying the City are  filled to capacity to ensure water supply during the shutdown period. “Our reservoirs have the capacity to supply water for up to two days. We appeal to all residents of the City of Johannesburg to use water sparingly during the shutdown in order to avoid a complete no-water situation,” Dhludhlu said.

Maponya mall sterkinekor is terrible!!!! The movie screens are very dim so you can't really see properly what is on the screen. The seats are very small,and I'm thinking it's because they are trying to fit in as many people in there,that way they can make more money. The pop corn is hardly ever fresh.it tastes very stale and it seems as though we are served pop corn that sits there the whole day whole day, instead of fresh pop corn. Your 3D glasses were not working when we came to see captain marvel and we paid a full R81 for a 2D movie which wasn't fair. The service is even worse because the lines are long and unorganized which makes it hard to tell which like goes Where. its 2019 I don't know why on earth you guys don't have self service machines where you can order your own food and collect it at the counter??? Like places such as east gate mall...please fix this mess!!!! I will never go to the movies at maponya mall,hell south gate is even better. Not the best. However it’s the only cinema in Soweto, unless I’m not aware of newer developments. This cinema is bad from very loud audio, unbearable! To lights turning off late during the movie, these guys can play the wrong reel without even realizing. The theaters are fairly clean but the vibe is just not ok, uncomfortable. The management is the worst, and never attends to queries right away. There’s always long queues at the refreshment areas because of shortage of staff. The movie will literally start while you’re queuing, so try to be early. If it happens you are early, there’s no waiting area at all. This cinema also offers no private restrooms for cinema users unlike most SKs’. In fact 99% of stores, restaurants users and workers must use the mall’s public restrooms which are usually not attended well. They are never clean and you may just find most out of order. Sometimes they are locked so cleaners attend to fewer toilets for the day. It’s just not a good environment! Personally I do not prefer this cinema. I’d rather drive far than not enjoy my movies. It’s a big NO. The only great thing about the mall is that minibus taxis have a special area to collect and drop off passengers. So parking and overall traffic is manageable.

Went to watch one of South Africa's biggest and best movies in this icon Ster-Kinekor cinemas. But of importance is the location on which this cinema is a tenant, Maponya Mall. Owned by larger than life, the late Richard Maponya. It is in the heart of Soweto township. This shopping Mall is most probably the only mall in the whole wide world that has a life size Elephant statue at its entrance. Easy to access with all modes of public transport, ranging from minibus taxis, trains, busses, foot as it is in walking distance to most neighboring houses around Soweto, not to forget ehailing services too. By far the most popular and pride of people of Soweto where they go to watch their newly released movies, both locally and internationally acclaimed

It was very DIRTY they definitely didn't HOVER the Carpet on the Stairs. There was no ORDER. There were Babies in Cinema. Adults were sitting on top of each other. Tickets were not properly checked. People were more than the Chairs available. The Couple who was sitting next to us even spilt their drink on me coz that 1 chair was not spacious enough to accommodate them comfortably. As if that was not enough The Movie got paused sothat they can arrange people who wr sitting wrongly. Yho 1st time in Maponya Cinema & definitely my last. 1 Star is for the quick service I got @the Snack Counter & another 1 is for de perfect online booking service.

Expecting the best movie ever and it turns to the worst 2h30 of my day, 1st and foremost the popcorns were the worst I make better popcorns on the pan on my stove, they were stail couldn't even finish them atleast the slushy was perfect, then I pay to watch black Panter but the lighting in the cinema was way off the movie so dark couldn't enjoy anything had to stand up and go close the door they left open, while having no monitor to control the so called '' chatters'' (lack of a better word) with degrees in social networking Worst movie experience ever today thanx alot for waisting my 200rand

While watching Blank Panther in the middle of the movie the screen just goes blank. 5 mins later someone comes inside the cimena and tells us not to panic they are fixing the problem. 10 Mins later still no movie. I decide to go look for answers. I find a very rude and unprofessional man telling me the customer to relax. We are later given lousy re-admission tickets. You will never ever see me at Mayonya Sterkinekor ever. Appauling service!!!’

The theaters have a lot of seats so it loses the cosyness/intimacy. They also don't have a love seat. They also experience load shedding frequently which means your veiwing experience will be interrupted. The last time I went there they had load shedding and I was given a readmission ticket, when I tried to use it again it turned out that it had already been used before. But their ticket prices are quite reasonable compared to other places.

I wasn't happy with the service at all. There was a lady, I think she was the manager or something,she was helping the two guys who were slow at the tills. She served us, she was very rude, she spilled the drink outside the cups and didn't even clean,our cups were dripping Coke. On top of that, the coke tasted like it was diluted with water. Then we had to sit out side for quite a while waiting for the cinema to be cleaned. So annoying.

The service I received yeterday was horrible, their screeens were not working, couldn't see what movie is playing at what time. When we bought our tickets, we were not asked where we would like to sit, then when we went inside the movie house, everyone was moved from where they were seated, it was chaotic. the movie was meant to start at 15:30, it ended up starting at 16:00. thei service was not good at all!

I'm not happy guys. On your website it shows "now showing" movies that are not yet released. I drove to Maponya mall yesterday night to watch Fast and Furious only to find movie will be on screens on the 02 August. Can we remove what is not on screens under "now showing" this is causing confusion to us and costing us money. Please put what is still to come under "coming soon" Thank you.

I went to watch John Wick Chapter 3 with my husband, it wasn't packed I am guessing it's because it wasn't half price Tuesday. The only disappointment is that they don't have movie cards, it's been a year and still no movie cards I mean they are closer to mean and I want to accumulate points but how do I do that if I can't get cards? Pls do something about that.

The chairs in the reception area are disgusting, need to be replaced. The chairs in the theatre also need to be replaced, they are old and shaky. They need to communicate that people must take assigned seats. We were disturbed by people fighting over seats because they didn't sit on the ones on their ticket cause it was never that way at maponya mall.

I frequent this place, this past weekend was with my daughter and happened to enter the theater whilst it was dark & had to use torches. Was surprised at how dirty the seats where! We endede up sitting nearer the screen coz of the filthy seats in the back row! And no one came to close the doors when the movie started. Socks up Maponya Ster-Kernikor!

Very poor experience might as well shut the place down I mean what's the use of buying something online only to be told we don't have it when you get to the counter screaning starts 10min later than stated times normal and before that while you are waiting for that you are in complete darkness not even stair lights are on to see your seat row

I feel like they should put it more comfortable chairs. Like who wants to sit like they are in a classroom at the movies. And the aircon is at 3° like really do you want us to watch movies or freeze to death. And they always light the lights way before the movie ends like come on. Why you in such a rush?

The service was bad...the weren't any people in the cinemas but the queue for tickets was long...and only one person was working...if it's not their service it's technical issues last time we had to get a refund because there's was no sound while the movie was playing and the lights were on.

Good Cinema in terms of sound quality, time keeping and service but the cinema booth are rarely cleaned after each movie session. From the looks, you can tell they are only clean either in the morning or after the cinema closes. But other than that they are the best in Soweto

Booked tickets online, took an uber to Maponya mall only to be told that they have a problem with the projector. We were told to watch the other movie while they are fixing the projector, they will move us to the other cin once they done. We sat there forever. Mxm

I watched Loosing Lerato and I was in love with that proudly South African gem it worth watching Fiela se Kind is out as well as Blessers so there is no excuse not to go to the cinema plus its very affordable and the popcorn is super yummy

Not the best of experiences at a ster-kenikor I think they should do more about the unruly people as theatres are meant to be quite thats like etiquette 1 on 1, however at this establishment people were making noise through the movie.

Bad! The staff inside is very rude, they rush people to leave, as the movie is on, lights are switched on by the operators causing us to miss what happened! The ticket sales guy is the only person who was friendly and welcoming...

It's not a bad cinema, need to adjust the 3D screen though as I feel it is a bit dark. And also maybe give the cinema a facelift where we can order popcorn and drinks on a touch of a screen. However not bad hence the 3 stars.

Movie kept switching off and being told to wait 10mins for the power to come back up..this happened not once but twice ..no one came to advise us of what is happening until we had to go out and ask about the situation

The theatres are smelly and stuffy. Aircon is cold when it should be warm. Please clean the place so that it smells fresh all the time. I'm sure the cinemas in Sandton, Rosebank, Hyde Park etc does not stink☹️

We got disturbed in the middle of the movie for people who didnt get sits coz of late coming. It took 15 min to do that. I feel it was unfair coz most of the people were the early we suffer coz of late comes.

People put their feet on ontop of the chairs and knock our heads Double take is nonsense Suggestion is to have 2 boxes each person for the double take instead of one Plus its smells like pee in the the cinema

Good movie selection, nice environment, my only issue is the lighting close to the screens and the disturbing loud sound from the other cinema rooms. If those can be sorted then 5 . …

First time at Maponya Mall, it was much more beautiful than I thought! Love that Black Panther 2 is still available even after months at the cinema, and it's cheaper than the local cinema near where I live!

No cash transactions is inconsiderate implementation. It is such an inconvenience.with lockdown regulations eased one would expect establishment to roll with the times . Day two still waiting for my refund.

Lights were kept on during the movie, we had to go and ask for lights to be turned off. Cinema was dirty, people drinking alcohol during the movie. Lots of background noise. Horrible experience …

I love how easy it is to get your tickets and meals and how clean the cinema is. However sometimes you can hear the movie playing in the other room/cinema if I may put it like that. Overall good service.

They need to start updating their systems. The ones at cresta are convenient and quick. We tired of waiting long lines for buying tickets and another long line for snacks. We want a premier cinema too

17 07 2019 they switched of the movie while we were watching, then we had to start all over again. And there movies always starts after 30 to 45 minutes, they don't start by the time which is showing

The electronic teller machines NEVER seem to work at this cinema. Everytime we go there the machines give us issues and there are only 2 of them unlike other cinemas which have a lot of them.

Thr stuff is friendly. The kiosk appears neat . it has delicious snacks pack. The is 3D room's for 3D's movie's. The room's are okay compared to other sterkinekor's. The chairs are not bad.

Enjoyed watching The Lion King in 3D, though their level of service leaves much to be desired, under staffed on a month end, you'll wait forever in the queues for popcorn, slushies, etc.

We always going here with my boyfriend to watch movies but the last time we watched IT 2 there was a power problem and the movie kept going off and off. Which was a huge let down for us

The couch that is suppose to be a waiting area just opposite the pop corn counter, is finished! Literally hanging by its last fibre, please bring in a more appropriate couch...

Great spot to visit if you want watch a movie in the middle of the Soweto. Has the kasi vibe to it. To experience the Kasi vibe to the fullest one should start at Tarven.

On Tue the queues were long and only self service counters available to use and they were freezing to make matters worse which was an unpleasant service to deal with

They always rush in to clean up before the credits are over and that's not good as some movies have a hidden message at the end of the credits, like Marvel movies.

whilst watching the lion king in 2D, the sound quality was bad, the screen wasn't very good & clear & our movie was paused because a couple fought for seatings

Pleasant enough. Your seat number means nothing because you'll find some one comfortably seated there lol. Just seat...its the township noone will bother you.

The least clean, reliable or professional. Screen does not show movies, stale popcorn, if electricity goes off they have no generator... Really ridiculous!

A great place to forget the hype of soweto and just drool over movies and reality does not have to bother you. Do this over a nice fresh pot of popcorns

I went there during load shedding and I'm happy because I still got to enjoy my movie. There was just a minor disturbance which was sorted out promptly

Was there to watch Creed III which was supposed to start at 2:45 and it took so and even on ads the screen wasn't showing anything. It's unacceptable

It's forever full, people talking during movies but buying a movie ticket using your card it's very easy and fast but not during month end.

There's a lot of confusion in terms of seating especially when the cinema is full. People usually don't sit where they have been allocated.

The only cinema in Soweto. Convenient and logical location. They never late with new releases and its always clean and well managed .

We paid for a 3D movie and ended up watching it in 2D. Services were poor, and it took forever to get the theater clean.

It is very small and there is too much crime at the mall and less to no visibility of security personnel at the mall.
