Today we went to get movie cards. There was, firstly, no one at the counters to help customers out. When I eventually found someone to assist us and the many other customers that gathered after us, the gentleman was completely dismissive with no care in the world to help us. We waited 5 minutes for someone to call him, another 15 minutes after that for him to just help us. When he eventually came to speak to us after calling other people from a different queue, he was totally rude and unhelpful. He asked me if I had my own pen to fill the forms in. I responded by saying no and he laughed and eventually gave me a pen with ink all over it. I filled the forms in and proceeded to wait another 15 minutes just for him to take my forms from me to get them captured. At this point my husband was completely irritated and demanded that he come and assist us instead of waiting for other customers to pop up for him to help. I completely understand the fact that other customers need help. However, we arrived when there were no customers and waited for someone to help. The self help machines are problematic and people often need help when they pay cash. How is it that there is only ONE person working at this station- and that's only when you call them. We've currently been waiting for 15 minutes already for them to process the application. I only know that's what they're doing because after 10 minutes of him blatantly ignoring us, I called and demanded that he tell me what was taking so long. I've never had issues here but this is enough for me to avoid dealing with the employees and going to watch movies elsewhere. Update: 20 minutes later- i'm still waiting for someone to capture my details and activate my card because, in his words, he "forgot how to capture the stuff on the system. It's a bit hectic".
I would rate this Cinema a zero. Pay extra for D-box seats but you find that several seats don’t work as promised. The coke is completely flat, exchanged for a second cup same story. Went to 3 tables only spice available for the popcorn was Plain salt or Salt & Vinegar, all other options (butter salt, Cream Cheese & Chives etc.). This is supposed to be Ster Kinekor the king of entertainment, but the experience is spoilt by the lack of customer care. Is it that hard to have the right supplies ready for a night of entertainment, you have X amount of possible customers a night, therefore if you sell gassed cooldrink to 80% have enough Carbon Dioxide to fill 80% of drinks, same for the salt, have staff top up containers every 20mins thus ensuring containers are partially full 100% of the time and lastly do maintenance on your chairs or stop ticket sales for that chair until a repair can be done.
This should be an awesome Prestige cinema, but unfortunately a few things let it down. The 3D projection is not up to par and 3D movies are very dark as a result. We've had more than one movie where it's actually been hard to tell what is going on. The second area they to improve on desperately is the stock. Morning shows never, ever have full stock - in fact your are lucky to be able to order anything at all off the Prestige menu. We've had more than one occasion where there hasn't even been popcorn available and we once had to go and find a member of staff to serve us. If you are going to have a 9am screening, then you need to be prepared for clients before 9am. And you need to have stock!
Had the most awful cinema experience at this facility. Ster-Kinekor proudfully advertises that they operate seamlessly during loadshedding but this is a lie. The movie at the Zone in Rosebank was off for 45 minutes, which we waited through. The staff then finally got the movie on only for there to be no sound for another 20 minutes. Completely ruined the movie. After an hour, when loadshedding in the area was over, the movie switched off again. Pathetic service from this establishment, will be requesting a full refund. Also, the transition to paper bags for popcorn is robbery. The bag is always only half full and is not at all the same volume as the boxes.
Honestly speaking, I have not had many issues with this Ster-Kinekor but today I think something ridiculous happened. The Zone had no water, and this somehow meant that the cinema had no cooldrinks. Normally, this would not be an issue but there was no sign, staff member, or any other way of informing us that the drink machines were not working so I spent R45 on a large drink and was only informed when I went to fetch what I had purchased that there were no cooldrinks. I was then told I could have a slushy or a bottle of water in place of the cooldrink I had ordered and also refused refunds for the money I had spent.
We were told to leave our 3 Starbucks drinking mugs at the check in desk and we will get them on leaving. When we were about to leave, we asked for our mugs and the attendant rolled her eyes at us and said that there were only 2. We shouldn't worry about anything and she will tell her manager... we requested for the manager to come out and meet with us to deal the matter. The manager too 30 minutes before she came out and said she will investigate and let us know. To this day...nothing. if u have any valuables, don't listen to them. They lie and steal your stuff...
People are very nice and good at their jobs, except for maybe the projectionist? Place is clean, technology good, and refreshments are great. Appreciate the big screen, but if some of the visual and audio equipment is not working properly then going there is not worth the time and money. Better to find other options! People do complain and seem to be ignored. That would need to change to obtain five stars for this place. Management need to investigate and resolve why Jumanji last night early evening show was messy.
Very upset as we ordered the D Box seats. While watching the Crimes of Grindewald the day it premiered the movie stopped showing and we were in the dark for approximately 30 min or so. There was no staff around to assist or anyone to advise what happened. All the cinemas were having this issue so most people left the cinemas. Very upset that there were no apologies from management and we had to watch the movie from the point it came on so we missed most parts. Not a satisfying experience for my first D Box show.
Cinema prive at rosebank is a privelege to watch movies if you have a chance to go there. Great experience, from booking the tickets, to having your own snacks queue, to being seated in comfortable sofas which recline. The sound and screen are top notch and it's simply a different way to watch movies. The only critic is that the little side shelf that holds your popcorn and drinks is not well thought out if you were to recline in your seats. It should have a cup holder in the actual arm of the sofa.
If your looking for service you won't find it at this branch it seems as they have a total of 3 staff that are not fully trained on top of that the most constant element seems to be the popcorn refill, during peak periods do yourself a favor and arrive 1h prior to the movie beginning the snacks que will take more than 15 min or more. The movie needs to incorporate hosts for packed nights to help consumers find their seats, flashes and loud late movie goers are a problem in the cinema.
I went to watch the Prestige movie. It's R140. I was so disappointed with the service. They were too busy to assist, we had to beg for information. They did not explain how everything works,we had to fumble in the dark looking for our seats. We were not able to recline the seats and no one was there to assist. The cakes we ordered were old and dry. The guy at The pizza place had an attitude. The only thing we enjoyed was The movie itself. LIAM NEESON in Commuter did not disappoint.
Rating a "no star" isn't an option so had to rate this a one star. This particular Sterkinekor always gives half-bags of popcorn. It's not the first time they've done this. The popcorn combos go for R195 for the double take which is quite a lot for half a bag of popcorn. Every other Sterkinekor does not do this....The women's toilets were in such a disgusting state, with wet cardboard on the floor and flies in the cubicles. Wish they paid more attention to quality and hygiene :(
Cinemas are good, some lighting issued where if you sit in specific areas of the cinemas, lights are glaring in your eyes the worst part of the place though are the queues at the refreshments counter, whenever I've gone for a movie, it takes half an hour to get to the front. it's VERY inefficient, usually miss between 15 & 20 mins of movie time ... I usually just eat elsewhere and forgo the popcorn, I just don't buy there anymore unless I'm like an hour early
Revolting experience. Self service kiosks don’t work. They don’t or won’t activate kids vitality cards. There is only 1 person working at the ticket counter, who doesn’t believe in queues, so she just helps random people. Then it takes 3 people to check your tickets when you come in. 2 people working at the refreshments counter, who don’t know there products, and wouldn’t give my daughter the Incredibles Pencil Case, that was advertised on the poster...
Movie did not start on time. Fifteen minutes after the scheduled screen-on time, the screen was still off. I had to go find someone to tell them to start rolling. When they did, they had to skip over a few things to try and make up for their lost time. Also during the movie, the light from the back was turned on and completely washed out the movie from view for a minute or two. The prestige seats are also not electronic and requires manual shifting
Every time I visit I’m disappointed with the system and how long it takes to redeem a discovery voucher (popcorn) , I avoid Rosebank as much as possible and prefer the Sandton branch (not only does sandton offer Leather Seats, everything works more smoothly) however when forced to visit Rosebank, it’s the same dissatisfying service. Staff and friendly and reasonable, it’s the management and processing that’s the problem.
Bad service and bad experience!! The staff are unhelpful. There are pigeons flying in the area that the food is served, and the floors are filthy. The cinema's don't get cleaned as often as a respectable company should. The staff when asked for information give it wrong to paying customers. Do not go here, rather drive a few extra kilometers to Ster-Kinekor at Sandton City where you'll receive great service!
Watched a Marvel movie, only theater that was open within 40km of me on a Monday, only options were the expensive premier couch theater, or the shaky chair (D-Box) theater (to watch it in 3D)... I can't recommend it at all, unless you like someone kicking your chair all the way through the movie. Besides that, theater was clean, everything worked and the staff were friendly enough.
Came to watch the new wreck it ralph, good movie. But the staffs service was terrible, the coke we got had no flavour, the movie started 15 minutes late, and during the movie when I went to ask someone to re-fill my coke they refused to help me. Also the lights in the movie house did not turn off. What a terrible experience. Won't come back here anytime soon! Absolutely disgusted.
This is the worst movie theatre in Johannesburg. The queues for drinks took 20 minutes. The theatres had the wrong posters up causing confusion. The movie itself started 20 minutes late! If the manager was concerned she didn't show it and was more interested in eating her ice cream. Absolutely shocking and not the first time we've had problems at Rosebank. Never going back there
Ticket desks are usually empty, staff seems ambivalent to customers in the standard cinema area. Prestige kiosks are usually attended and staff helpful. The seats are pretty average. They don't seem to care much since it doesn't really matter how crappy the service is since rosebank is quite central and convenient so either way they have high foot traffic.
Service was not good, the machine charged my card but did not print a ticket, the assistant advised me that we could pay for snacks at the counter and didn't have to pay at the machine so we stood in line at the counter only to find out that we have to pay for the snacks at the machine so we had to stand in line twice for snacks. Not great at all.
My first time visiting this SK branch and I was quite impressed. There are plenty of staff available to help customers rushing to get their snacks before the movie starts. My accompany had a soda she was drinking as we were walking in and I was very impressed with the professionalism in which they handled this violation of the cinema's rules.
Great place to watch movies with incredibley friendly staff. Place is kept clean and extremely easy to navigate. The should be 4 stars however the Popcorn bags is only half filled and now offered in brown paper bags. The price of Astros or anytgung sweet is R20 over priced. All for paying for stuff just not a fan of being over charged.
These guys can't seem to control the temperature. Either it's so cold, that you take a blanket or so hit that you need a towel to wipe away the sweat. And what's with selling alcohol at the movies? Do I really want to spend almost 2 hours listening to someone next to me get more drunk as the movie progresses? Some serious concerns.
This cinema is a mess. Incorrect movie posters at the entrance to individual cinemas causing confusion on a recent visit and cinema staff don't care. Toilets are better than before but still not clean enough. Aircons will often be set too high, so take a jacket even in summer. On the upside, I'm happy that there's a Pizza Hut
Pricey...zhuzh it up like the rest of the centre if you want to charge fake it 'til you make it prices for current attractions and chewy almost fresh popcorn. Oh and btw #SterKinekor, I'm sure most folks would be happy with lightly salted, fresh, warm popcorn from the counter to avoid oversalting it at the frenzy tables?
Absolutely the worst experience. The Rosebank cinema complex was fine, but the movie we.were watching wouldn't fit the screen!!! I complained and they tried to fix it but couldn't. So everything was cropped for the entire movie. They did give us vouchers and they tried to fix it but still not a.good experience …
Always love a movie outing and the experience at Ster Kinekor is always good. However, the whole popcorn in brown paper bags is a bit of a let down. Thought this was a temporary measure for covid. It's a small detail, but it really does kill the movie theatre experience. Also those things are noisy.
This is my favourite cinema house in JHB. The cinemas are all well-maintained and clean, and the larger cinemas match the sizes of any others countrywide. There is also a Cinema Prestige, which offers really luxurious seats, as well as a Pizza Hut which will deliver pizzas to you in your cinema.
In 2012 when we received the news from Ster-Kinekor and Cine Prestige about these new said elite cinemas withThe Zone, selected, as one of the few then, to have such. It's quite disappointing to see Prestige at the aforementioned place look like it's managed by the ANC. Develop it already.
Love this movie theater, they have upgraded their cinema and have very comfortable and spacious chairs - they have recently added a Pizza hut on the inside and therefore you are able to order a pizza and eat it in the movie. The self service kiosks make it very easy to book a movie.
Really nice cinema and always clean. The service is a little slow depending on the amount of people there. Not sure about this Dbox feature, it's quite loud and distracting if you not seated in those seats and when you are in those chairs it feels like someone is kicking the chair
Need to up the game! Needs a revamp as their prestige is worst place to be in... it holds lot of potential though. Absolute bad experience and not recommended at all! The manager Kevin is absolutely useless and the Pizza Hut people are bunch of arrogant lot, stay away!!
Watched a movie at cinema prestige yesterday evening and was so unimpressed. Paid an arm and a leg for seats and they were broken. Didn't recline or sit up straight. The seats were so bad that we even considered buying new seats... #NeverAgain #WasteOfMoney
You need a personal loan to bring a family here for a movie and popcorn / coke. I’ve been here a few times and the cinemas are always filthy. The staff are always rude, in particular this individual called Jabu ( pictured ). Go somewhere else
There is really no point of have 2 cinemas in one mall at the Zone rosebank there is the latest ster kinekor that has all the latest movies and prestige venue but th one inside rosebank mall looks old and unattended then the movies that are
One can experience state of the art entertainment. There are 10 screens at the venue which enables to enjoy various movies and caters to various genres of Bollywood & Hollywood. The only drawback is the price of the tickets are expensive.
Poor Service. Popcorn is stale. Tastes like the days before. Cold. Spoke to the attendent who sent me to the manager. Waiting 15 minutes for the manager. Eventually they made new fresh popcorn for us. More other people where complaining
We were told that there would be a separate queue for online ordering of food so we ordered online. When we arrive to collect, there is no one manning the online collection queue and were made to stand in the normal queue. This is not
Horrible experience. Screen was not working and they issued us with another complimentary but refused to refund the popcorn and cold drinks. Then they wanted us to phone customer service with our phones for the refund on the popcorns.
One of Johannesburg's treasures. Excellent, diverse, choice of movies and special attention to each client. Some seats (cinemas 5 to 8 - if my memory is correct) have aged. But the variety of choice makes up for the comfort.
We treated ourselves when we went to see the most recent Star Wars - and saw it in one of their luxury cinemas as well as in 3D. Not being one who goes to movies often, this was a fun and worthwhile experience for a treat.
Love this cinema. Has the best seating and the prestige... Oh the prestige is just beautiful and comfortable. Having a near home like feel, while watching on a huge screen. Great times. Definitely a must! No excuses!
I dropped my wallet out of my bag in the cinema itself, and came back 2 hours later and they still had it (minus about R100 cash, which we'll put down to a finders fee). And the movie experience was great too!
Film was far too dark. The projector was not running at the correct brightness. The theatre is probably trying to get more lamp hours out of their projector bulb by limiting the brightness. Ruined the film.
I miss the days when Bollywood movies used to be played at this cinema please bring back Bollywood movies back onto the screens as this used to be my favorite cinema when yous used to show Bollywood movies
It is an infuriating experience every time I visit. The self-service kiosks are frustrating and slow to use, staff often loiter around and don't appear to be busy with anything, and the cinemas feel dirty
Popcorn was burned and cleaners were still busy when the movie started (and lights were still on, controlled by cleaning staff - a joke really). Movie pic stopped halfway and no attendance for 20 mins.
Self service did not print any of our movie tickets or food & drink receipts. One of the guys working at the tellers managed to sort us out as the manager had absolutely no interest in assisting us.
Great experience at the Prestige cinema. Even though a power out ruined the show, the staff were very friendly and the manager was on hand to make it up to the audience. Great customer service.
Great vibe. Spacious cinemas. Ticket bookings are always busy. Popcorn ques are very long. Suggest going earlier to make timing. Though, the Pizza hut Express with coffee/cuppachino is great!
Just like any other Ster-kinekor so I can't really complain much. One thing I don't like is that it's always busy but what else can you expect, it is in a Rosebank which is a great location.
Watched John wick 3 this weekend and the cinema had only front speakers working. No sound effect so contacted the manager on duty still waiting for feedback. I certainly would not go back
Slow service at catering counter and we were the only ones at the counter. The drinks machine ran out of gas. We only got into the cinema after the trailers played and the movie started.
Great movie experience. More than 5 cinemas to choose from so mo movies per day. Clean and beautiful. The movie prices are reasonable and the screen is big, plus the sound is great.
Nice and the restaurant around makes a life easier, the only thing was that it was very cold in the cinema. Aircon setting was not lekker. Other than that had fun as always.
There were only 2 people by the snacks counter, on a Saturday night when it's always busy. The popcorn is so expensive but they don't fill it full and it tastes bad.
Good movie experience but sound was lagging from the sound sound.. and the attendants left my food worth R600 to be stolen where they said I should put it …
Used to go to this place like very weekend before, quality definitely dropped, theater is still good but the popcorn is always stale. Nice cinema tho.
Good theater and helpful staff. However we got sore tummy the next day and suspect the popcorn powder . Will be going easy on the power next time..lol
The Prestige seats are looking tired. Maybe time for an upgrade or at the very least, a repair. And! R30 for parking afterwards is a bit of a rip off!
Great and reliable cinema with good quality sound, easy access and helpful staff who were able to assist me with booking tickets through vitality
Popcorn pricy. Movie was great! We had a perfect sittings. One of those where u don't have a headrest in between. Perfect for me and my husband.
This is probably the best cinema in Gauteng it’s really spacious and quite big and covid-19 friendly I really enjoyed watching dr strange there
Highly popular spot for movies. Seats are comfortable, which makes the film even more enjoyable. Cinema's are kept clean. Better with friends
The aircon works and the seats are comfy. always a lovely experience. except movies r getting really expensive especially the combo snacks.
I loved this cinema. The service was spectacular, the facilities where clean abd very neat. would happily recommend it to everyone.
Charges R45 per large popcorn and then only fills the bag halfway, and when asked to fill it properly they say they can't.
The bathroom were not in a good state. They smelt terrible and were very dirty on top of most of the doors not closing.
Loadshedding cuts disturbed but eventually we managed to get backup.Watched black panther: Wakanda forever …
The Prestige cinema is sooo worthy of its exorbitant price...my man n I had an amazing expression …
Had a good time. The cinemas were clean and I experienced great customer service.
One of my favourite mall in Johannesburg! Good shopping place.
Literally go to any other cinema if you have any allergys
wide screen good sound quality comfortable seats
One of the best cinemas in Gauteng
Best experience. Best memories
