"Love love love this place! The staff is lovely and the bread is incredible"
"The saleslady promoted some "fresh apply buns" this morning, "just baked" - I purchased a few and regret now - no trace of apple was found in any of those plain buns, and they obviousely were baked not this morning but who knows when (not fresh, just very dry)"
"I like their rye bread a lot but when I walked into their shop and discovered they had put up the price of a loaf by 33% I thought that was a bit much"
"The best bread in Melbourne"
"I first experienced Baker in the Rye's products during covid lockdowns and a mandatory 2 week isolation period"
Love love love this place! The staff is lovely and the bread is incredible. I’ve been eating my way through most of their ryes (of which there are many) and I struggle to find a single favorite. From dense 100% rye loaves to airy sourdough ryes, I always pick up a loaf on my way to work on Mondays. Must try!
The saleslady promoted some "fresh apply buns" this morning, "just baked" - I purchased a few and regret now - no trace of apple was found in any of those plain buns, and they obviousely were baked not this morning but who knows when (not fresh, just very dry). Can't trust in what they say anymore
I like their rye bread a lot but when I walked into their shop and discovered they had put up the price of a loaf by 33% I thought that was a bit much. Australia is suffering from severe inflation right now and unfortunately Baker in the Rye are contributing to our demise.
The best bread in Melbourne. Incredible variety of rye and sourdough. Favourite is Borodinsky, or Golden Boy for a crispy white toast. Sweets are also good. Authentic Eastern European hospitality which adds to the Carlisle St character. …
I first experienced Baker in the Rye's products during covid lockdowns and a mandatory 2 week isolation period. Living on my own plenty of kind souls delivered food. A box full of Baker in the rye baked goods such as bread and pastries were
I went in for a loaf of San Francisco sourdough bread. The bread was average. It doesn't hold a candle to real San Francisco sourdough bread and they really shouldn't advertise it as such. I rarely give reviews, but was compelled to after a
We absolutely destroyed this zebra cake. Dense, moist and tasty as fffudge. The lovely person there recommended it, as my daughter said she really wanted a chocolate cake. They nailed that recommendation harder than I nailed your dad. 11/10
By far the best bakery in Melbourne! Try the Pumpernickel, the Latvian Rye or the Borodinsky bread to get a real taste of Eastern Europe. The cherry and cheese danish and Napoleon cake are wonderful, although my brother liked the blueberry
Hi. I absolutely love your bread and have been a customer for a few years now. I don't like to post a negative expirience, but I feel you need to be aware of this problem. This morning, during a stage 4 lockdown 2 staff members were in the
Visited this shop at the end of the day today. Last week I bought the Latvian sour dough. So delicious. Today 2 Latvian rolls with caraway seed and 2 Polish rye. The train home was delayed. I was hungry. Began nibbling at the rolls. They
After buying my rye bread here for almost two years, I have only now come to the delightful realisation that Baker in the Rye has two tiny little tables, and if you buy a fresh sandwich with a pickle on it they will put it on a beautiful
Called a few days ahead and ordered a specific cake for my birthday. Arrived to pick up the agreed cake (on my way to my birthday dinner) and they gave a completely different cake. When questioned, they stated this is all they had. I had
Best breads in Melbourne and probably the whole Australia. If you're looking for a real bread, look no further. Rye (black) bread that they sell is of very high quality and tastes great. It is made from a few natural ingredients and does
I went there last Sunday. I got charged $20 for an 800g pack of dumplings (pelmeni) instead of the advertised $16/kg. The quark they sold me turned out to be old, it expired last Saturday. The loaf of dark rye (borodinsky) also wasn’t
Very confusing trading hours. The door doesn’t have any trading hours information. Google says open until 6:00 pm on a week day. The shop was shut at 5:35 pm on a work day. What’s going on?
Oh my gosh. Stumbled upon this bakery walking down Carlisle St. This place is not to be missed! Their pretzels and olive bread are spectacular and their sandwiches are just delicious!!
If you can get past the cranky ladies behind the counter this place does a mean loaf of bread. My fav is the San Fransisco sourdough - pay in cash and you might receive a smile
Beautiful authentic east euro bakery. Sour cherry cream layer cake and savory peroshki are homemade. Rye bread is light and not too heavy but full of flavor and grain. …
Once we discovered this fabulous bakery a couple of months ago we've been back several times and recommended it to others! Genuine rye bread is hard to find and it's so good.
Got a beautiful fruit tart for my partner today because of her birthday. They were so easy and helpful during the whole process. And the cake...well look at the picture.
The challah is actually the best in Melbourne. There, I said it. The olive bread is amazing too! Don’t walk past the pastries. One of Melbourne’s best kept secrets. More
There’s no shortage of bakeries in St Kilda / Balaclava area, but this one is quite special. The San Francisco Rye is my absolute fave. And did I mention the pretzels!!
Go there mostly for their yeast-free Borodinsky rye and probiotic drinks (kefir and ryazhanka). They have great choice of good bread, but no gluten-free options.
A fabulous family run bakery and a gem on Carlisle Street. 100% worth visiting and sharing their goodies with your friends and family. Baker in the Rye is great.
If you are looking for authentic European rye bread - this is place for you! I can confirm that Latvian Rye tastes like real one from the home country! More
The most wonderful San Fransisco Rye! Tasty pretzels and indulgent slices. Welcoming and informative service if you find yourself indecisive as I often do.
Tried their San Francisco Rye and the 100% rye and both loaves were excellent! The ladies at the counter were lovely too.
We drive over 30 minutes to get bread from Baker In The Rye because it is the best bread in Melbourne. More
Best freshly baked bread in Melbourne. I love the raisin loaf, definitely a must try.
