I was really looking forward to our meal here & unfortunately was underwhelmed. I emailed them three days before our booking to check what the Spring Menu was (Winter Menu still up on their website) and never received a response. The service was absolutely terrible & definitely not up to standard for a restaurant of this price point. We arrived at 5:55pm for a 6pm booking and were the second diners to arrive. We ordered 2 courses (main and dessert) aswell as two sides (greens & cauliflower gratin). When we ordered, only one of the two paper menus was taken. My partner ordered a beer and it arrived with two strawers! After 45 minutes, I asked one of the waiters how much longer for our food and he gave me a very impolite response of “well your order is in the kitchen!” No apology, no offer to follow up….. Other diners who arrived after us had their meals coming out of the kitchen (entree orders). Our mains arrived around 5 minutes later (55 minutes after we arrived) and were not hot. We ordered the lamb special and barramundi. Other than the temperature of the food, it was very nice and has contributed to the two stars. Our desserts (Pear Tarte in photo & creme brûlée) arrived 5 minutes after we finished our mains! Not sure who is running the kitchen but timing of the food service was extremely poor. Who wants to eat their dessert 5 minutes after finishing their main? The desserts themselves were very nice. After nearly 90 minutes, we had enough of the poor service and were eager to leave. I asked for the bill & one of the waitstaff brought it over. A different staff member then brought over the EFTPOS machine for us to pay and then walked off mid transaction - no “how was your meal?” or “have you had a nice evening?” The other bizarre thing is you don’t have one allocated waitstaff, we had three different people attending to our table throughout the evening. I didn’t hear any staff speaking French and we were welcomed with a “Hi” at the door as opposed to a “Bon Soir” so if you’re expecting a truly authentic French experience, I’d recommend managing your expectations. Based on the service tonight, we won’t be recommending this restaurant or returning. It doesn’t appear the owner responds to reviews so not expecting a response.

Being French, we usually don't go to French restaurants. So, when my partner invited me to Cafe Lyon, at Lindfield, I was pleasantly surprised. The location itself is a few hundred meters from the train station, so you can easily drink and be driven by public transport back home. If driving, you can park in the back lanes and there's a public carpark at the back as well. The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere, like in a French 'bistro'. The service was impeccable and very attentive to our needs. We enjoyed a delicious 3-course dinner, starting with the entrée on special for my partner, the ceviche, which was fresh and tasty. I had a zucchini flower stuffed with goat cheese. I particularly enjoyed how the chef played with textures: the silkiness of the goat cheese was nicely complemented by the crunchy toasted walnuts. We opted for two different mains, him choosing the barramundi served with green peas, me the confit duck. The barramundi was perfectly cooked and worked well with the veggie garnish. The duck portion was big, I loved the mustard pear which brilliantly cut the slight saltiness of the duck. Our desserts were a feast for the eyes – and for our taste buds as well! The pav, that was on special that night, was a modern deconstructed take on the usual pavlova, served with champagne jelly cubes – I need to get that recipe! – , fresh blueberries, fresh mango, mango ice cream and a pistachio brittle that brought some crunch. It was light and divine! My chocolate mousse was also delicious and with an amazing presentation with a tall tuile. It was served with delicious crystallised petals and spiced cherries and a raspberry sorbet. I loved the contrast between the smooth chocolate mousse and the slightly tart sorbet. All in all, a great service and delicious food reasonably priced for the quality – and quantity – in the plates. We loved our night out and we will go be back to taste other dishes!

We chose Cafe Lyon to celebrate our 12 year wedding anniversary. Upon making a reservation the restaurants website prompted us to make them aware of any “special occasions” we may be celebrating. We arrived to find “Happy Anniversary” printed on our menus which we were appreciative of. However that’s where the hospitality stopped. Guys if you’re going to ask about special occasions then follow through with a complimentary drink or dessert. Something, anything to acknowledge the occasion which you requested to be made aware of when we booked, not even a word from our waiter. Food was excellent until we had a cockroach fall out of the ceiling onto our table and then onto the floor. Our waiter removed and apologised. It really wasn’t a big deal for us and understand these can be difficult to manage for any food business, that was until the second cockroach arrived crawling behind my wife’s shoulder. We left, paying the bill at full price sans any compensation for our experience and feeling not so very special. Cafe Lyon, diners return after great experiences not great food. You should of made this right, immediately. Won’t be back!

What a night! I came here for my birthday with my fiance. We ordered a three course meal each. For appetisers, I got a ceviche and he got a pork belly. Both were amazing, flavourful and came out in good time. Next, I got a steak, and he got the duck. Again, both were AMAZING. So delicious. Seriously, the best steak I've ever had. Tasty, juicy, so filling. For dessert, I had a creme brulee and he had the profiteroles. I did enjoy my dessert, but I think the profiteroles were more enjoyable. The whole time, we were served by Owen, and he made us feel cared for and understood. It was great seeing the staff interact so nicely with each other, they have some great relationships there. In the end, I think we spent about $80 each for the three-course, but I paid a bit extra to have the steak. It was really well-priced for the quality of food. Highly recommend!

Came here for special occasion celebration. Had ocen trout and prawn as entree and beef fillet as main. Surprised to see my steak was cut into 3 pieces when served. There was no description of the size/weight of the beef fillet. My estimate was 200 gram (the most). Tasted good as would expected. For the entree, the thin slices of ocean trout were yummy. The batter of the two prawns were thin and crispy. However, it added no dimensions to the prawns. The prawns themselves were tasteless, and more importantly, lacked the nature sweetness that fresh prawn has. The décor is nice, may be a bit over to emphasize it's a French restaurant.

Cafe Lyon is a cozy 2 level restaurant, with great atmosphere and delightful food. The theme of the interior is very fitting with that of a French cafe, and once you step inside you suddenly feel worlds away. Time passes quickly. The quality of the food is top notch, while the prices are very reasonable. Lunch is only available on Thursdays, which is a shame, as their lunch menu is superb. Bookings are essential. The quality of their Entrees, Mains and desserts are equally delicious. One visit is not enough to explore their menu, even with a small group of friends.

A gem in the middle of Lindfield. They serve delicious French style cooking at a very decent price. The servers/waiters were fantastic. Kudos to our waiter who knew her wines and made awesome suggestions. And the food just flew in and out at perfect timings - we didn't wait too long for each dish. The meals are by course pricing so you have the option of a 2 course or a 3 course. My companion opted for both 3 courses because you just gotta. I had the quail, salmon and the souffle and I cleaned all plates. Really tasty and flavoursome. Highly recommended!
The food was delicious and beautiful, the service is outstanding. While I was there a really nasty customer was yelling at the staff, and I just hope that anyone who had to deal with him didn’t take it to heart. One of my favourite dining experiences in Sydney of all time.

A Hidden hot spot for aussie locals!! Casual + formal french dining restaurant! My friend recommanded here for me and my husband. We had a great time for having a delicious french cuisine with lovelies! All waiters are such a gentle man, and always they keep smiling with kindness. Quite impressive! But remember, the waiting time is too harsh! You must think about at least several months for making a booking! This is not a joke! Try it! You will notify what I am talking now
I’d walked past this place a few times without thinking much of it. I decided to book and try the food. I have to admit the food was very good. The restaurant is very cosy and has a local feel to it but again I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. Also the crème brûlée was possible the best I’ve had in my life. Recommended if you’re in the areas. Only down side is the dinner menu is a course menu. 2 selections $65 and 3 selections for $78 does make it a little expensive.
Fabulous experience at Cafe Lyon. European vibes, great food prepared with amazing attention to detail. Best steak tartare in Sydney. One thing, portions were larger than expected - we had trouble finishing 3 course lunch, but it was absolutely worth it. Reasonable prices for the quality you get, amazing restaurant

Fabulous local gem. The aesthetics, vibe and dishes all had an authentic French feel. They offer a daily special for each course - not shown on the menu - but shown in the accompanying pictures. Grace looked after us for the evening and was a delight - warm, attentive service with the right amount of conversation. Will definitely return for a visit and recommend
Decided to go dinner on a Tuesday night around Lindfield and came across this French restaurant. Brought our own wine and had salad and beef for my main course. It's amazingly good. Tender and tasty. Service with a smile and warm by all the waiter and waitress. Would not hesitate to return again.

We had great lunch here for my birthday. Everything was agreeable, from the welcome to the excellent food. I wont get to France this year, but this will do nicely. It was recommended by old and dear friends. One of them has passed on now, but hey Pav! We drank champagne thinking of you.
Incredible restaurant. Pricey but you get what you pay for. The entrees are all awesome. The mains are mostly great, the steak is very good, but the barramundi isn't up to par with the rest of the food. All the desserts are great.

We went on a week night, but it was still packed downstairs. We had dinner upstairs. It was quieter but still nice vibes with a young polite and friendly French waiter. All the food was delicious and the service was perfect. My partner is French and he loved the food too!
The food was fantastic. They had an extensive wine menu, and they made a perfect espresso martini The décor was exhuberant. The waiter was friendly and knowledgeable. If only there were more restaurants like this in Australia.

A charming restaurant offering authentic French cuisine. The 3-course set meal is very affordable and the menu changes all the time. The French martini marks a good start to the evening. Service is friendly and fun. The quail Ballantine
Had another fantastic Saturday night dinner for two. Given the high quality of food, $68 for 3 courses really is extremely good value. Everything on the menu looked appetising and the duck and lamb mains were delicious. If there is a better
I went to Cafe Lyon for Mother's Day lunch and was very impressed by the room, food and service. It was a set menu mother's Day special menu, but the choices were good and despite both ground floor and first floor dining rooms being full we
This is easily a local favourite as it provides great ambience, and the food is wonderful. The scallop entree (day special) was an experience for the rate bud. The scallop was fresh and the thin cucumber slices both made my mouty felt like
Amazing food and service .. they have a set menu and the flavours are very french.. the place has a great vibe but is usually booked so a prior reservation is recommended. If you are loking for a nice dinner date it's the perfect place.
Celebrated my birthday with a sumptuous dinner and treat booked by my beautiful partner! A very warm and pleasant welcome, followed by a very friendly and yet professional service. Loved the very personal touches like the happy birthday
Food was ok, but nothing special. Only 1-2 dish actually typical French, the rest is more modern Australian. Service was good, but there was a long wait between the entree and the main due to the overcrowded restaurant.
Went with friends for dinner on a Saturday, July 22nd, and had a nice table in the corner upstairs. Both floors pretty full so popular. Room all decked out in French bunting etc. so fun atmosphere. Our waitress,
