  • "This venue is incredible"

"Great atmosphere, good food, patchy service quality"

"The food we had is really good, the sea urchin boat is tasty, duck liver mousse definitely better than any others, beef tartar is good, for the snail I am not a fan of it, but my girlfriend likes it, and the chicken is so good, normally we order steak for main, but that night we chose chicken instead and it seems to be a good choice! The service we had that night is very friendly and they staff really gave great introduction of every food! The music and the atmosphere of the restaurant is wonderful as well, it is perfect place for two people to celebrate romantic date! Two reasons I gave 3 stars for this experience, one is that the food is little salty, we kept drinking water but still feel salty, it doesn’t affect the deliciousness of it but still I can still remember how salty they are after a few days, maybe the chef could consider a little bit on this issue"

"Beautiful restaurant with great atmosphere & staff, but only decent food"

This venue is incredible. The live jazz band is magical. Venue and band make the whole vibe incredibly relaxing. Whilst the food was tasty I can’t say we were impressed overall. Escargots in XO butter with baguette - delicious. Except our baguette came out long after the escargot so they were like warm at best by then. Sirloin with bone marrow butter - butter was delicious. But the steak was medium (asked for medium rare) and clearly been waiting for service as the butter wouldn’t melt to an oozy consistency on the steak. Confit duck with white beans - we LOVED this one. Duck leg was succulent and the saucisse it comes with was bouncy and meaty. Butter leaf salad - tasty, a good side dish. Crème Caramel - lovely bitter caramel, but the crème part was over cooked and eggy - no jiggle at all. Our waiter also asked how everything was, constantly…. Early on they asked if our wine was good. I shrugged and said it was alright, nothing too great. They nodded excitedly saying very good, very good over and over again. Clearly not listening. If you’re looking for someplace special, the music and ambience are definitely it. The food might’ve been a bit of a miss for us because it was a late Sunday night dinner - so think about too while you read. I don’t think we’ll be going again as some of the basics were missed.

Great atmosphere, good food, patchy service quality. Dined in Beatrix Dining room. Had to wait a few minutes for our table although we were on time. We had a table right in front of the band - for some it might be too loud, but we loved it! Music was lovely, but the band took 45min break 5 minutes after we sat down - which means there was no live music between 19.05-19.50. You’d think it’s prime time and they’d play… Got asked 4 times if we are ready to order, despite us clearly still reading the menu and debating what to order. Finally, we got our order in. Tried the beef tartare (5/5), gnocchi Parisienne (4/5), bread with Pepe saya butter which is always 5/5, chicken (5/5), baked potatoes (4/5), seasonal veggies (3/5), and a chocolate gateau (4/5). The food was good, but nothing more than you’d expect from an average French bistro - I suppose we are in Australia, so good French food is not that common… Service was pretty annoying though, we asked one waiter to keep something on the table, but another waiter came and took it away without asking, 5 people were working on our table but they were not communicating and not observing at all. When getting a bill, it was ready much faster then they got my glass of wine ready at the start, and right after they put the bill on the table the manager was by our side with the terminal - I haven’t even had a chance to look at the bill… I will not be back - for this price I would expect much better treatment at least.

Second thing is I do mentioned that night I was planning to celebrate my girlfriend’s birthday that night I wish to have a little candle and I can sing a little birthday song for her, but it was forgotten by the staff and my girlfriend was really mad at me, I spent days to comfort her which left a little pity on the experience that night! I wish we can have a better experience next time!

Beautiful restaurant with great atmosphere & staff, but only decent food.. Our waiter was really friendly and helpful, and the live jazz music created a nice ambiance. We started with 2 mocktails (the rose one & grapefruit one) and both were enjoyable - sweet & refreshing. We only got entries as food and, though the ingredients of each dish were of high quality, we were unimpressed by the dishes. The crabe & espelette and the beef tartare were good but very simple and a bit bland. The saucisson sec was overpriced ($27 for a few slices of saucisson while similar can be bought at a French market for much cheaper…). We did, however, enjoy the roe boats (the mix of flavours was amazing) and the escargot XO (the sauce was savoury & tasty with a bit of umami flavour). The baguette & butter was good. We got the Hubert gâteau au chocolat as dessert which was good but, again, we found it to have a very simple/basic taste. For the price, we expected a more unique experience food-wise, but most of the dishes we tried had very basic/simple flavours. Overall, I believe the atmosphere & staff make it worth a try, but the food is a bit overpriced.

Restaurant Hubert is one of those restaurants all Sydney-Siders should visit at least once in their lives. Stepping through the unassuming doors on Blight St you walk down the stairs with intrigue and excitement. And when you arrive in the restaurant you feel as though you've been transported to another country. The wonderful decor and Jazz music fool the senses into thinking you are in a downtown Parisian restaurant. The food is in one word - exquisite. We treated ourselves to the $165pp Banquet and were treated to 'the greatest hits' of Hubert and it definitely did not disappoint. Our Top 3 dishes were the Crab et Espelette, Tartare de Thon & Chateaubriand, but to be honest it was all exceptionally delicious. So why the 4 stars? First of all, the sheer number of patrons in the restaurant cheapens the experience a bit. We ended up with a bill nearing $1000 for 4 people and yet felt like just another number in the restaurant. Secondly, our waiter - while polite - was more interested in upselling anything and everything rather than actually showing interest in us and what we wanted to eat. And finally, while the food was special in all of the right ways the $1000 price tag was special in all of the wrong ways and felt far too exorbitant (even for fine dining). Would we come back though? In a heart beat!

First impression was live jazz music and European interior. I was expecting authentic French food. They do have some. Also they do have some fusion food which is using Kimchi and miso. We have not have a reservation we did walk-in. I had been called several time and no one answered phone and called me back. Apparently, need to book 3-4 weeks advance if you want to have a seat live music side. Me and my friends sat bar side and it was little bit dark. We had baguette, olive and cheese soufflé for share. And we ordered one main and one dessert per person. Everyone enjoyed food. Butter and baguette was amazing

Vegetarian options
There are few options for vegetarian for each section. Entrees, grilled menu and desserts. When I asked about vegetarian option, one of waitresses was kindly explain and I took her suggestion and I have grilled cauliflower. I really appreciated that. I would like to try banquet but I was sure they can make it for vegetarian. I was going to ask about vegetarian banquet menu but me and my friends had decided to have A la carte.

Love the ambience at Restaurant Hubert, and love the live music, but the taste of the food were just okay, portion are small, price are on the up side for their portion. Just an okay desserts and cocktails. We were a bit disappointed with the service, the waiter took away the escargots that I was still eating and there were still 2 pcs on the plates, I have to chased him and ask him to put it back on my table, and then he took away my dirty martini without even asking if I was done with it. We were feel so rushed to get out within our 2 hours window for having the table. We were reminded about this 2 hours window the second they sit us down. We ordered 1kg Cote De Boeuf $218 (was not disappointing) Chicken Fricassee $95 (excellent taste) Soufflé Au Gruyere $33 (yummy but very small portion) Taryare De Thon $33 (very small portion, taste just okay) Escargots $36 (7 out of 10) Baguette $10 (perfect) Pommes Frittes $16 (average) 2 Desserts (average) 3 cocktails (good presentation but nothing special), 2 Beers, 2 Soft Drinks, 2 Coffees (never again) Total Bill around $700

We were ordered 4 set meals for $124 each person and drink for each person. However, the dinning time are in rushing. No introduction for our dishes. We are first time here, don’t know what was serving with our dishes. When our drink are finish no one ask if we want to tap up, they were just taken off our glass. No one change our dinning cutlery. We had been using the same cutlery from the beginning to the end including the desserts . I notice other table were changing the plate when new dishes come, but we’re using the same plate all the time including the dessert. Even though we have all the chicken bone , we still have to use the same plate for the dessert. When our glass finish, we have to pull the water ourselves. Very disappointed with the quality and service . I do not think the service and food worth for 600 bill. And the 10% fee for service. That is ridiculous to paying a service fee but we are serving ourselves.

I love how the restaurant atmosphere had and the decorations of the food is amazing but I didn’t have a very welcoming service here! We walked in and waiting for an hour to get a table. The tall guy with dark hair, who control the line and walked us in after asked us do we want a share table with others or we would like to wait for another table to sit privately and we happy to wait more to sit our own table. So he let other 3 asian guy at the back go first because they don’t mind to share a booth with others. After 10m I saw that 3 guy were move to another table which is we were waiting for (private table), the staff did apologize to us but after that they treat us like we are really desperate to come to this restaurant! I’m not really happy with this experience. Although, the food is very salty, I don’t know is it because our attitude is not good so the staff put too much salt or sth, but it just not worth the money for the food, besides the jazz is nice. Regards.

We celebrated our 17th wedding anniversary at Restaurant Hubert, and it was an unforgettable experience. The ambiance was enchanting, with the live jazz band creating a magical atmosphere that perfectly complemented the occasion. The service was impeccable, with attentive staff ensuring our celebration was truly special. The menu boasted a delightful array of dishes, each a culinary masterpiece. From the first bite to the last, every flavor was a symphony for the taste buds. The attention to detail and the warmth of the staff made this evening truly exceptional. Restaurant Hubert is not just a place to dine; it's a haven for those seeking a perfect blend of exquisite cuisine and soul-stirring music. We can't wait to return for another memorable evening. For us, this place was pure heaven.

First time to Hubert, was recommended by a few friends. First impressions, the decor was pretty cool, all the wine bottles, the stage, artworks, but it did smell like BO and vomit at the bar/reception area I thought it was only me, but my friends could smell it too. No onto the food; 1. Plateau de Fruits de was disappointing very little flavour and for $135, there wasn't much on the platter 5/10 2. Prime Beef Tartare 7/10 3. Crabe et Espelette 8/10 4. Escargots XO 9/10 5. Poisson du Jour (John dory) 7/10 6. Côte de Boeuf (Foie Gras addition and truffle) 8/10 need more Foie Gras to compliment the steak. Overall a good dinning experience, just a few areas of improvement, AC and Ventilation needs to be cleaned, carpets also needs cleaning to remove that vomit/BO smell.

Food was excellent as expected, but the service exceeds all expectations. It was a packed night but they are very attentive to everyone. Food was served quick, our plates and table are kept clean all the time. The sauce from our dessert got to the side of the plate and they even went to wipe the plate so we can take good pictures . Would highly recommend the pommes anna. The miso beurre blanc sauce was out of this world. Steak was cooked to perfection combined with bone marrow butter. We also got the beef tartare and escargot with baguettes, which are wonderfully fluffy. Overall an amazing dining experience. Definitely worth the price. Hoping to get a table infront of the stage so we can enjoy the live jazz next time

Food was mid. Nothing special compared to the price. Terrible service. We were taking photo at the bottle area at the end of the night and nobody was sitting there then got told off by one of the staff when it doesn’t disturbing anyone. Secondly while we were leaving the restaurant we tried to take photo at the signature stairway along with another group and only us got told off by the restaurant manager. He full came and said “ I think you guys got enough photo for the night” during the time when we were taking photo no one was walking pass us and he claim that we disturbing people and blocking the way. That was unacceptable as we just spent nearly $400 at the restaurant left feeling like we just got kicked out.

Me and my partner celebrated my birthday here and the experience was amazing. The food was spectacular, highly recommend the escargot XO, as a Vietnamese the snails were very flavorful and the xo sauce goes very well with bread. The duck à l’orange and gnocchi were great as well. The steak we ordered were medium rare, it’s a bit bland and hard to chew which eventually hurts my jaw. The beef tartare in my opinion was a bit overhyped because I didn’t really enjoy it and find the dish rather ordinary. Otherwise, the decor and atmosphere in general were spectacular and the jazz music was great also. The service was amazing as the guy who was serving us was very funny and polite.

After so many reviews and social media accounts raving about the cheeseburger and happy hour at Hubert, it's not really worth it in my opinion. The patty is cooked well and juicy but that's all the burger is. It overpowers everything else and it's solely the cook of the patty that makes it stand out. The other components of the burger are just like meh and the single stick of pickle doesn't do much either. Definitely not worth paying more than $20. I've had way better cheeseburgers, just head out west and you'll have plenty of cheaper and delicious options. The wait time is insane and the seating is uncomfortable and crowded. I like the underground and dark ambiance but it's also very chaotic and is a weird mix of a classy jazz lounge and then on the other side it's like some dungeon bar.

A good dining experience. The highlight of the night was certainly the beef tartare, probably the best I’ve ever tasted. The live jazz was incomparable. The only (and major) downside was the service - we felt extremely rushed, with the waiters removing our entree plates literally as we were still eating, with food still in our hands and on our forks. It was absolutely bizarre. Furthermore, one waiter quite condescendingly asked whether we knew what foie gras was, proceeded to call us “girls” the whole night, and then pretended to not understand us as we ordered the Gamay wine, despite our perfectly fine pronunciation. I felt a distinct power dynamic that should not have existed in such a fine restaurant.

Cocktails were really basic cheap tasting with a expensive price tag of 26. Aggavating venues can charge this but hand out premix tasting cocktail with little flair. Ive had better at the local surburban pub. Fillet steak was perfection. 400g could have served 4. Potato side also good. Gnocci and kimchi were acceptable. Server had little empathy for our sad cocktails choosing to avoid us for the night. Restaurant called to push back our reservation from 930 to 945 with the band finishing very shortly after that time, which was quite disappointing. We have had more enjoyable meals elsewhere for n pricepoint such as rockpool down the road.

This restaurant came to use highly recommended so despite not being an avid fan of French cuisine or jazz, we made the booking. Colour me converted! The atmosphere is just buzzing and contrary to my fears, the live music provided a pleasant and ambient backdrop and didn’t get in the way of conversation. The food was just divine, from the very first bite of a humble-looking confit field mushroom that totally knocked my socks off, to the flavour bomb that was the escargot and the melty yet crispy confit duck. We loved our dinner here!

When you walk in to Restaurant Hubert, you are transported to a whole other world. The staircase down is a journey beginning in a mini foyer with some beautiful art. This restaurant has an amazing atmosphere that instantly excited me. I was astounded to see how big the restaurant was. We got one of the banquets and we’re allowed to switch out one of the dishes for the gruyere soufflé. My family and I really enjoyed our time here. We also enjoyed the live jazz and friendly staff. They even let us take home two of the coasters because we loved the design! note: I have no idea why I started this review in such a poetic way, maybe it’s magic

Restaurant Hubert is the absolute bomb, and let me tell you, the live jazz vibe is the cherry on top! The moment you step in, you're transported to this groovy world of good times and even better food. The live jazz just adds that extra flair, making it not just a meal but a whole experience. The ambiance is like stepping into a cool speakeasy with a touch of French charm. The staff is friendly, the food is top-notch, but it's the live jazz that steals the show. If you're up for a night of good tunes, great company, and seriously delicious food, Restaurant Hubert is where it's at!

The team at Hubert’s provided my wife with a magical birthday dinner. They kindly gave us the table right in front of the stage, with a band playing, fantastic food and a beautiful ambience. The standout dishes for us were the crab starter, the lobster tail, sirloin steak (cooked to absolute perfection), the fries and the chocolate tart. We will, without doubt be back again. Amazing. Cannot beat the value for happy hour from 5-6pm. The atmosphere is incredible. Enjoyed the zucchini flowers and loved the burger! They accommodated my request to make the burger well done as I'm pregnant. Service was fantastic and fairly quick for such a busy place. Live music started at 6pm and it was great! Highly recommend a visit to this place for happy hour. Would love for some mocktails to be added to the happy hour menu.

Unfortunately the hype for this place doesn’t quite hit the mark. The atmosphere and dining experience is very unique, the service is what’s expected, nothing more or less, although we felt it was pretty rushed through and the waiter clearly just wasn’t there for anything other than the pay check. The food is the let down here, and I had very high hopes, overly rich, overly salty and just overpriced for what you actually get served. Mediocre food, in a great setting.

I would consider this a special occasion restaurant - we needed to reserve a table months in advance for a birthday dinner. Excellent service and great atmosphere. Food was fantastic with some unique flavours but didn’t have the wow factor that will bring us back immediately. The only real negatives were we had the first sitting at 5pm but the band only started 620pm and the restaurant was quite warm inside which was a little uncomfortable (it was 30+ degrees in Sydney that day which might have something to do with it…)

I’ve had Hubert on my list to visit for years now and my partner made a booking for our birthdays recently. The experience was amazing, the ambience is immaculate. Incredibly romantic live jazz music and candle lit seating. The food was divine, the duck parfait is definitely a must order. The roe boat was melt in the mouth, creamy and sweet. The only let down was the sirloin, it was ok nothing mind blowing. I will definitely be back in future to try out there other menu options

Actually enjoy the atmosphere here. Live jazz band was honestly the reason we came for. The service was good however there was one manager lady was quite aggressive from nowhere when we tried to reach out for the dessert. And they forgot to put the order in. I had brunch with a friend there as a celebratory one for a professional achievement. The attendants were very friendly and attentive. They had a live band playing while we were there. It’s a pricey location but worth it if you are celebrating or just want a fancy place to eat and have classy drinks. They were so kind to give us two cute macrons as a celebratory acknowledgement. I appreciated the thought.

Extraordinary. The food, service and atmosphere exceeded all my expectations. I am genuinely taken a back by the level of service and accommodation I received. GM James and the rest of the staff were incredible. The food was just on another level, like nothing I have experienced. Every dish we had was exceptional. One of my best birthday dinners, thank you Restaurant Hubert

Food was exceptional. Steak tartare & chips. Walk in. Hosts lead me to a table. Brilliant. Service awful. Went in as a single person having a late dinner & wines. Thought I’d never write a bad review. Shocked honestly. Snarky service on a Sunday evening.

It saddens me to leave two stars to one of my favourite restaurants in Sydney. Although the service was great and atmosphere was good as usual however food was an absolute disappointment. $68 for a boiled small piece of fish served in a puddle of cream no garnish no taste. I buy $7 frozen fillet at Woolworths and it tastes better than what was served for 10x the price.

Cool spot for a dinner. Love the ambiance of this place, with a cool entryway that makes you feel like you’re going to an old speakeasy. Good food, excellent service. I particularly loved steak. Would def recommend this place for a nice night out.

"The restaurant had a wonderful atmosphere with a live jazz band playing during our dinner. The food was delicious, especially the duck liver parfait and the striploin steak. Don't skip the dessert. Overall, a 5-star experience."

Hubert nails most of the French staples —great flavors and a solid selection. They feature reliable classics like coq au vin and a well executed beef tartar. Service, though, doesn't quite keep up. It’s friendly but disorganized, leading to long waits and uneven attention. It’s a disconnect that takes away from the meal..

Roast chicken, roast chicken, roast chicken. Been a couple of times and that roast chicken just does not disappoint. Duck parfait amazing. Steaks are average IMO. Mushroom with pepper sauce is also super tasty. Puff pastry desert with cream is to die for. Impeccable service. Super cool vibe and extremely awesome fit our. Can’t complain at all.

The service is attentive and the ambience is lovely with live music. This is my second time visiting Hubert, food is average for the price and quality is inconsistent. Drink is quite overpriced. Having said that, my favourite dishes are the sirloin and the mushroom.

Booked a month in advanced. Unfortunately the food was not quite what we expected but overall the experience was very nice given the live music and all the candles and everything. I got the duck which was really really bland. My favourite dish was the tartare.

Having heard so many great review of Hubert, the expectations were really over the roof. However, the first experience here really did not disappoint. Dropped by here after work for happy hour drinks and a bite, the dishes were delicious. Truly surprised by the generous servings and was stuffed at the end. Will definitely come back.

The atmosphere is great for a date night. The Duck Parfait will be on most people’s order list as it’s so decadent. But my tip would be to try the Pommes Anna, really enjoyed the miso in that.

Hubert seems to be be cutting down but charging the same price. The Normandy burger used to come with fries but the most recent time I went, though tasty, the burger was served as one lonely burger on a plate. The sirloin steak was tasty but quite tough to chew. Use to love this place, not sure what happened to the quality and quantity. Disappointing.

Take me back to Hubert's! This place transported us to another world. I felt like we were in France. The food was absolutely amazing. Every course was perfectly served. I enjoyed the live music and band. I just felt it was a little dark to read the menu. I struggled a bit to see the printing.

Found this amazing Jazz restaurant in Sydney. Travelled in and arrived late. The food was stunning and service was faultless. Great Jazz and atmosphere. Food came out reasonably quickly and didn’t disappoint. Great winding staircase to the bar and restaurant like an underground hideaway.

We opted to come here for lunch on a Sunday. The food was definitely * chef's kiss *. The duck parfait, escargots, beef tartare, and steak were divine. Even though we were stuffed at this point, we had to get the souffle to end it, and it did not disappoint. Also the ambience was amazing with the live jazz band. More

Had a really wonderful evening at Hubert. It's a moody and wonderful vibe, beautiful bar and restaurant. The food was divine especially the t-bone steakn with foie gras, escargot and the roe boat - chef's kiss! And the unlimited freshly baked bread and french butter! Ohlala. Can't wait to return to try more! More
