I don’t know if I came on a bad day, but as a former library assistant, I was really disappointed. The people who worked there were nice... to their coworkers. They seemed uninterested in helping the public, and I had to point out how one could use the non-resident card (you CAN check out regular books with it, no matter what they say) to the staff at the circulation desk. Customer service was nonexistent, which surprised me, because it was everything at the small rural library system I worked at. Their books were poorly shelved, which was disappointing for such a large library. The children’s area was nice, but I really didn’t feel comfortable with the children’s librarians scowling at me. If I felt that way as a 37 year old woman, I can only imagine how the kids must feel. No one feels approachable here. Honestly, I bought the non-resident card to get access to a larger amount of books, but from here on out, I’ll only visit the library to pick up holds. I won’t come here to spend some time, we’ll go to our own dinky library for that. At least the people at ours seem happy to see us.

Took my 4 year old and infant to the library today to get out of the house. We went to the children's section and my daughter quickly found other kids to play with. There was about 5 of them. They were having a good time playing with the hand puppets and got a little too excited and started chasing each other in a circle in a small area- again in the KID'S section. An older woman who worked there quickly came over and started scolding the kids for running and saying "if you need to run so bad have your parents take you to the park" mind you it was about to storm outside but that's besides the point. Basically, yes they should not have been running and yes a library is not a place for that kind of play but the librarian could have at least given them a warning first before the harsh words or picked a nicer approach to her message such as letting the parents know they need to settle down. These kids were all under the age of 5. Will not be returning.

This was my first time to this location and it was horrible! Almost everyone I interacted with was dismissive and borderline rude. The two ladies at the front desk couldn’t have cared less and where definitely afraid of me. When I was on the second floor I was at the another counter where 4 people were hanging out and I waited there for about a minute and NO ONE , not a ONE, acknowledged me. I walked to the other side, where the print release station is and finally someone helped give me a guess pass. When I needed to print and the tap-to-pay wasn’t working I got help but she was mean as all heck. I know it’s the south but I shouldn’t be treated like I’m not there or like I’m subhuman because I’m different. I always go to the Plaza Midwood Library and never have this experience. This location would do well to practice tolerance the way we do back there.

(Masks Required): My visit was pleasant and the librarians were very friendly. They greeted me when I walked in and I told them how I hadn't been there since they remodeled so one of the librarians gave me a quick tour where she explained and pointed out the update of what has changed. Social distancing is in place as even though at the time that I visited it was only myself and two other people in there and I only was in there all of 10mins. They have self checkout and if you need to use the computer to print since they are in Level 2 status right now there is no fee to print and they will give you a guest pass to do so, so you will only really need your library card to scan to check out . Would highly recommend this library without any reservations to you and your family!✨

After coming to this library for over a year 2-3 times a week I can confidently say that this is a very nice and comfortable space with great internet and more than enough electrical outlets if needed. The chairs are comfortable and there is nice big windows for natural light. The only thing that brings this down is the fact that it is the noisiest library I have ever been in. Headphones or earbuds are an absolute must and even with them you can hear conversations. Even in the so called "quiet study" room conversations can be heard. This is not simply the people in the library but the workers as well that can often be found huddled and chatting loudly. If it wasn't for the noise this would be a 5 star library but it is simply too loud.

They spent the last year or so re-designing the whole building….and the new design is awful! It was re-built during the pandemic, and so the new design is specifically geared towards the pandemic condition. They have installed a bunch of rooms where there used to be open space, so that people can better isolate themselves from others. This also makes the library feel cramped, even though its a huge building. The lovely garden on the downstairs patio is now gone, and they have left only a tiny fraction of space for a new garden. The children’s area is likewise now cramped and has hardly any open space.

The library building itself is well designed. (Thanks to the architects and building planners that built it.) However, the staff and management over them are a bit slack. I was unable to study and concentrate because someone all the way on the opposite end of the library allowed their kids to “exercise” their vocal cords for a good 2 to 3 hours. And this was all in front a staff help desk not far away. And not a single one of these staff members did a thing about it. Don’t believe me? Listen to the video clips I took and imagine trying to concentrate with that going on for a good 2 or 3 hours.

Because of fresh hip surgery I am using a rolling walker and am rather unstable. So at this Library I went to use the automatic door openers and none of them worked. The person next to me tried them too and after he pushed the square buttons, the doors didn't open for him either. So he helped me on the way in. Leaving, I went through the door alone and shoved it open but it came back quick and hit me and knocked me over but it was a good thing the person coming thru the other way caught me. If he hadn't, I'd now be visiting DeMayo Law. Hey, CML, fix it!!

  • Melissa Klinkster

Really underwhelmed with the new library update. Every library they've updated feels kind of sparse and feels cheap. As a tax payer I'm not impressed. I'm also not thrilled with the covid restrictions they've enacted. There's zero places to sit now, and they've coraled everything off that makes the library fun and interesting. I'm not sure at what point our libraries will be more welcoming to the public. However as business have shown it can be done safely, so the library should follow suit.

I haven't been to this establishment since before they remodeled and I was not disappointed when I visited today. They had someone going around wiping surfaces whether they were just doing regular cleaning or not that is something you don't really see anywhere. I needed help finding cook books and a gentleman showed me where they were and was very helpful! The place looks amazing and everyone was super friendly!

  • Claire Hutchens

I came here when I had to cram for a math exam to get into college. They had wonderful reference books for calculus and that was beyond helpful. I found the upstairs area very peaceful and very relaxing area for even a very stressful thing! Wifi is incredibly fast, and I will definitely be coming back soon! For anyone wondering, they also have a section for LGBTQ+ reference and content that is of a decent size.

Lots of space to find a quiet corner to work or read. If you're a tutor this is a great place for that. The kids section has a lot to offer for children including media resources, puzzles, etc. There's even a dedicated teen area that has age/time restrictions. This is a very clean and beautiful facility and there are even community rooms you can reserve for larger group meetings.

  • NCGirl

With all that money and time it took to renovate, you should have stocked books instead. Two well known authors I looked for and are never available. You may have two books from the same author and the others will have to come from a different library. I will go to Matthews instead. Like the old look a lot better. Sad....

  • ada brittany

If you returned the library books, and they are still showing up as checked out on your account? You can always to go the library and look on the shelf and there it is! The librarians are always very apologetic when it happens and you try to stay calm about it. You have become familiar with it and you accept it.

  • Good Wonderful

Libraries are supposed to be quiet! The patrons and the staff are entirely too loud. If you MUST talk keep it at a soft whisper. No one should be using their normal voices to talk to someone right next to them. The Plaza Library enforces volume which I appreciate but this branch doesn’t. Very annoying.

  • Amori Nylan

I'm new to the Charlotte area but this is the most rowdy library I have ever been in, especially when the teenagers come out the Catholic High School around the corner. Libraries used to be quiet; not anymore! Its so congested. I would give you 1 star, but I'm being nice today :)

  • Suzanne Mencer

Pleasant, helpful staff. Lousy decor, much like an army barracks. Patrons are allowed to make phone calls, carry on conversations and kids play computer games talking to their friends at the next table with no restraint. Very intrusive when you're there to do serious work.

  • Akshay Nanda

One of the only public libraries where there is an actual designated space for people actually trying to do work, not just sit and chat and watch YouTube. Very clean, nice staff, and they have power outlets everywhere, something other libraries just don't seem to have.

  • Sharath Rama

Though the new library looks nice and bright, I'm not sure it's much of an improvement over the old one because the amount of quiet space has been significantly reduced. This includes the half of the second floor that was completely quiet before and no longer is.

  • Nancy E.

The library renovation were well worth the wait. Clean facility and spacious reading areas. Some of the seating areas are still blocked off on the second floor. There's a lot of natural light from the windows and several computers for self checkout.

  • Alyssa Marie Quinones

If you are a student looking for a good place to do school or study, this place is perfect! Has a lot of great space to sit and work, as well as lots of charging ports at almost every table! The new removations are great and added way more

  • Ricardo Davis

A good branch with nice staff, wide selection that you can also borrow from around the library system. My only complaint is that it is fairly regular that my returns (especiallyCDs) are not checked back in the same day, resulting in fines.

  • Marilyn Ramjohn

This is a beautiful Library. We are fortunate to have this facility where we can once again go and spend quiet time to read, to study and just enjoy the beauty of the Library and surroundings. Courteous staff. Easy access to this Library.

  • Alvin Ceasear

I honestly had a great time here with my family. I have not been to them all just yet but so far this is my favorite one. There's so many spots to chill and do school work and work period. The staff is very friendly and helpful its clean

I love this library. Quiet areas for reading or studying. Great book selections for adults and children. Computers are available to use if needed. The library is always clean and has plenty of friendly staff to help with questions.

  • Hailey Masters

I wouldn't come back. Me and my daughter came for toddler story time and we drove 30 minutes to get here so we were about 5 minutes late but they said story time had been closed and we weren't aloud to join. We are pretty upset.

  • Daniel Plainview

Newly renovated, this library has such a nice modern and clean look to it. Plenty of computers and desks available to use and a friendly and helpful staff, though that you will find at any of the Charlotte Mecklenburg libraries.

  • Sylvia Moras

Nice library, but the children's staff is unwelcoming and overly strict. Luckily, we live in close proximity to other branches where my child and I feel comfortable and can actually enjoy story time and our library experience.

  • adarsh srivastava

Very nice building and good collection of books. Great and super helpful librarians. Extra pleased that they have all covid-19 restrictions in place to ensure library is safe for everyone and help stop spread of the disease.

  • Faye Lululu

Moved from Massachusetts, can't believe they charge for newer movie, in Massachusetts everything is free. The difference is the newer movie would only allow 7days rental than 14days, and the penalty is only $0.2

  • Sharon Wal

Very clean facility with an efficient process for checking out. The children's section was easy to navigate, with clear posts/labels so each child could identify where to get books for their reading level.

  • Brian Moreira

Don’t believe the hours on their google listing. Their not open Sunday and Monday. I drove all the way there and they’re closed. For forbid they simply updated their hours, it’s really not that hard.

  • Nala Duo Lin

There was a recent renovation of this branch and now it looks super nice! The staff is always helpful. They keep the place clean and tidy. Thank you so much to make it such a great regional library.

  • Rohit Kalia

Library building is decent size for branch library. Staff is polite enough. Kids section was full of kids but it's on the first floor, not so noisy but there's no dedicated quiet study room.

  • Mary Ramey

The staff is very helpful and willing to answer any questions. Quick return through the side of the building. Easy checkout. Very good selection for children. Would highly recommend.

  • Dee Luna

This library is nice and all but the ability to do much of anything on the wifi is limited. It blocks a lot of websites and services. That said, the selection of books is top notch.

  • Gillian Winzinger

This is a very nice facility. Clean and quiet, helpful staff, plenty of selection. I also love the self check-out, for days when I just want books without human interaction.

  • Melissa Topinka

Many places to sit & read….modern, bright, & easy to find the books you’re looking for. Everyone who helped me was very nice. It’s my new favorite place to hang out & read.

  • Daria

It was great! I had a book that I put on hold and I couldn't find it and they went into the back room to retrieve it after the transfer. Wonderful service, kind people!

  • Other Stuff

Books are not checked-in carefully at this branch, both the book drop and in-person. After multiple errors, I now only return materials to the Matthews location.

  • Donella Taylor

My family experiences was above out expectation. The service and staff A one. I would recommend this learning facility to family and friends.

  • Savannah McLain

Staff was unhelpful and literally rolled their eyes at me when I asked for help with copying. Unprofessional and rude. Will not be returning.
