went in to pick up a click and collect order - had I known the way the staff instore would treat me before buying the item online, I would have shopped somewhere else. I am quite young presenting, and found that I was completely ignored by every single staff member in store while trying to locate the concierge desk. I had to approach someone, and even then it seemed as though I was doing her a disservice asking for help. When I finally got to the concierge desk I had to wait for a literal 10 minutes despite me being in clear view of the staff working out the back, and when I was finally served I was spoken to bluntly, the item was shoved at me and there was no goodbye of any sort - I was blown away. Having worked in retail I know how exhausting the work can get, however this experience has definitely deterred me and I’m sure others from returning to David Jones Malvern. I hope the manager of this store takes customer service a bit more seriously than it’s employees and makes an effort to train them in customer etiquette.

Super poor service!! Couldn't recommend this David Jones less, i generally opt to shop with David Jones for the good customer service and easy returns policy when buying online & unsure of size however the staff in this store in the ladies section and concierge section were terrible (running 4 retail business' myself, i am very respectful and kind however the staff need training here!!) . The lady at concierge would not provide me with a receipt for my return and i didn't think anything of it until i got home and realised i had no proof of the $500 return I made.. returned in-store the next day and she insisted she processed the return and again wouldn't provide me with a receipt. 5 days later i contact customer service and they advised me it had never been processed... luckily the online team were helpful and trusted that it had been returned or i would have been out of pocket $500.

We went to purchase some kitchen appliances and were "served" by Lucy, who had avoided eye contact (there were 2 other staff genuinely busy on the phone) but came over to "assist us" after an extended wait, but only when we asked twice and she was told to by her manager. The duress of having to tell us the price of several big ticket items was clearly too much, so she guessed, *eyes rolled* saying she would have to look it up if we really wanted them. After clarifying that if I asked her the price, I really did want to know it (cue another long wait) we got the items and left. The stuff was on special, so I'd shop again, but if Lucy is on a Sunday retail award rate, you might want to do some team development or something David Jones.. That attitude in service staff is nothing to look forward to when youre spending upwards of a thousand dollars on non compulsory kitchen items.

Had the product I wanted after being sent from Chaddy. Service however wasn’t great. An employee was with a customer and the other employee was about to start counting the other register over half hour before closing time on the shop floor. I’ve worked in retail and I’m sure this is not a safe practice. Anyhow, she yelled out to another employee to come serve me and pointed at me over her shoulder to which the other employee yelled “wait, I’ve got knives to put away”, to which they employee at the register said to me “you’ll just have to wait” and began counting coins. The initial employee serving a customer on his till was trying to end the transaction and could tell I was in a hurry and avoided the small talk and got me out, for this I was really appreciative of him reading me.

I went to David Jones to return a blender (KitchenAid) in Malvern Central. The box containing the blender weighs more than 11kg. I managed to carried it to the Concierge area but was informed that it needs to be taken to the kitchen appliances area which is at the other end of the building, to get my refund processed. I asked the young lady behind the counter for a trolley as I was getting tired. She said the trolley wasn't available but didn't offer any suggestion or assistance. So I picked up the large heavy box and left. As I was struggling with the box heading towards the other end of the building, I came across two young men in black outfit with DJ name tags both walked passed me avoiding making eye contact.

HORRIBLE! I don’t like to review after one bad experience as I know sometimes people are having an off day, but I have been to Malvern Central David Jones three times in the past 6 months and every time the staff have been so rude. From aggressively telling me I’m at the wrong counter to return something, to most recently, a staff member following me around shuffling the coat hangers into the right place after I’d been looking at things - I overheard her telling another staff member how annoying I was being, just looking at the clothing! Not sure how you’re expected to look at the clothes without moving the hangers…? Always leave feeling like I’ve inconvenienced the whole staff just by entering the store.

Is it just me or has big box, higher end retail declined to the point of irrelevance? DJ's was once a pretty luxurious experience, certainly a step above the likes of Myer. It seems those days are well behind them. The attitude of the staff remains (needlessly superior), but it's all just a little shabby now. And not shabby chic, but shabby as in dirty around the edges. Not a huge range, prices are reasonable though, and I suspect that (at least partially) accounts for their continued business. You do however get a sense that it's a race to the bottom. Save your time and give your business to the many, many independent retailers in the area who provide a vastly superior experience in all regards.

I received a online purchase of a coffee machine back in 26th January 2021 Order Date: 26 Jan 2021 Unit did not work correctly contacted manufacture which tried basic troubleshooting but advised to return to store for refund/replacement. returned unit to david jones malvern, and its been nearly 6 months since i lodged a fault with the manufacturer. David jones refused my ACCC rights to a refund/replacement esp since the repair was not able to be done in a reasonable amount of time. Rang DJ support Rachel refused saying its covid repairs take as long as they take when i tried to explain that sorry no the consumer can now insist on a replacement/refund she hung up on me.

Horrible customer service. In the baby department staff on last night avoided eye contact at all cost so that you wouldn't have an opportunity to ask for assistance. In the shoe department same issue hoevere as soon as people wanted to pay for a product all of the sudden there were 3 staff members at the register. Another staff member at the register looked over while serving a customer and commented to the other customer " mums day out, no mum goes back to work anymore" uncessesary and inappropriate comment to be made to another customer. All in all I have never walked into a worse David Jones and management should really have a look into training their staff.

A friend and I meet at the cafe at David Jones in Malvern Central every few weeks. Today was the first time we haven’t been able to buy sandwiches as we normally do. Apparently there is a new supplier, and sandwiches are no longer available. The small brioches are dry, expensive and poor quality compared to sandwiches previously sold. The range of options is very limited now. There aren’t tea leaves for a pot of tea, only tea bags! Is Management trying to close the cafe down by turning customers off?? The young man there is terrific, and I feel sorry for him having to deal with dissatisfied customers. Wake up, Management!

Total lack of customer service/consideration at cafe at Malvern Central. Spent ages waiting to order eventhough not many customers. Then we were told that we had to go to different counters to order coffee and hot food, so queued at one place for some items and then another for other items. Then the item listed on their glass display cabinet wasn't available. Staff couldn't give a stuff. What a ridiculous process, who thought that up should be fired. Hope DJ's read this. We went elsewhere. I am a big fan of DJ's but the brand is let down by the staff and stupid ordering process.

Had the displeasure of calling up asking if a particular Dyson product is in stock. The lady who answered the phone was so unpleasant I could actually hear her eyes roll through the phone before she hung up on me, twice. Ended up visiting the actual store and a waste of time it was as they didn’t have any in stock. It’s a shame, the lady in small appliances was so very helpful and while being overworked, she was a great employee, going above and beyond - The same can’t be said about her colleague, and it really left a bitter taste as a consumer when shopping at DJ’s.

Twice a year I pick up a mascara from YSL at DJ Malvern and they are never in stock nor is there any service to be found. Something that should take 3min max end up taking 15-20min as the barely existing service does not know where the other brands keep their stock. Yesterday I went to see the new food hall they’ve added, hoping I could pick up some dinner as I didn’t feel like cooking. Well, for people that are plant based/vegan I can tell you this is NOT the place for you. Out of all the pre-made option there was NOTHING for vegans. Very disappointed indeed.

  • Troy Kenward

Entered the store yesterday 20/06/2022 to purchase a mens bathrobe worth approximately $180. Asked the male assistant in the men's wear department if I can have the hanger with the garment and was told rather bluntly "NO". Your loss David Jones as I've purchased over $1000 worth the mens clothing in the past 3 months and been provided the clothes hanger with heavy garments in the past. Myre will provide a hanger with particular clothes or on request so they can have my buisness.

  • Vladimir Tsivlin

Took my wife today to David Jones to buy a present. was very disappointing experience. The top she wanted to buy from spotcraft didn't have the right size. She approached the sales person , who just replied she is working for different brands and can't look on line. The sales person from spotcraft was on "lunch break," then I asked another sales assistant and got the the same reply. What a shame, we left without spending any money and went to another store

  • David Stapleton

Previous experience with David Jones has been poor but I thought I’d give them one more chance at their Malvern Central store this morning. Tried to purchase some clothes for my partner, but the checkout lady insisted on having their membership card for any discount and treated us with such contempt bc we did not have the card with us, despite the fact we had a membership. David Jones has an arrogant brand and culture full stop. Never returning!

  • Sally Yu

Too many bad experiences. You either get no service or subpar service. Departments are often unattended; staff will prioritise privileged-looking customers despite who was waiting first. Security barcodes always set off the alarm when you exit after purchase. Limited range of stock available in this store. Staff at Myers are much more attentive and polite, not to mention the prices are more often than not, better at Myer. Will not be returning.

  • Dimitrios Daskalakis

On behalf of my friend John Muirhead: I was very disappointed when I came into David Jones at Malvern Central today on Sunday afternoon. Most times when I come down there the service of the coffee bar is very good. Today the people waiting on us seemed more interested in getting ready to go home than serving. Thus, we were served two of the worst cups of tea we've ever drunk in our life.... thank you bye bye. John Joseph Muirhead

  • Robert Cudlipp

This business has been apparently been put on the market following sustained poor sales. Perhaps the staff, certainly at Malvern Central in particular, could be advised their jobs may soon go & perhaps it may assist their future if they actually served customers looking for help to make purchases, but then just walking out while staff idly talked among themselves. Gazman is a Total and very positive contrast in customer service.

  • Lauris Jones

Awesome, as always! Ive been searching for the perfect winter knit for ages without success. So decided to try a walkthrough here once again. The sales staff are so helpful here, unlike many other places, and one in particular helped me find it in Jac+Jack. There were only 2 in store, she even searched out the back for the next size down. I'm so happy with this find, and the experience. It's a real pleasure to visit here.

  • John Dolfini

Improvement from beginning after appalling start at new Food Hall. Barista Mathilda is outstanding, I really like the cafe section. Hot carvery with salads and roast chickens are great as well. New Food Hall not interested in customers or customer service it seems, just want to push their own labels and not bring stuff from Bourke street which is odd and a pain. Let's hope they keep improving.

David Jones is one of the better department stores in Australia. Better quality stock than the others and some great food offerings. Whilst not as bad as the other Australian department stores they do have a similar issue with customer service. It's not so much that you are made to feel unwelcome like some but it sometimes the staff do appear they have better things to do.

  • Katherine Paker

Considering how expensive the brands David Jones stock I thought the service would be much better. No one around to assist me and no one at the change rooms to help with sizes. Not going to spend money in a store when there is no service and when you finally find someone they don’t offer any help. I think places like David Jones are out of touch with what shoppers want.

  • Jamey McIntyre

Lady at the Chanel counter was rude and more interested in cutting ribbon on the back counter than helping me. They had two staff available yet she couldn’t possible help a paying customer due to the ribbon cutting being more of a priority. I even offered to leave and do other shopping and come back and she said not to bother coming back.

  • Eleanor Newcombe

I found shopping in David Jones a very frustrating experience. Most items were not priced eg candles. When I asked an assistant she said "Oh they're around $35"!! It was hard to find anyone to help except in the bedding area. .David Jones staff in other stores are definitely more friendly. I will shop at Chadstone or Southland in future.

  • Shermelan Reddy

It's OK... I like most of the things for sale here, however, it becomes a big drain on the wallet... So, I'm going to have to go and make enough cash to buy up everything in store and live like David Jones 'pimped' my s"*t... Does anyone want to run a charity on my behalf so I can be the David Jones, number one customer??... Hahahaha...

  • Sunny Days

Was going to do some shopping there but unfortunately was confronted by a screeching Indian woman at entry, who yelled & screamed, demanding to see my exemption for not wearing a mask. I showed it to her, but felt so disgusting after this experience, that I walked straight out. DJ's really should employ staff with better people skills.

  • Michel Bromley (Mick)

Ok, D.J's store, single leave, a small floor space. Minimising the amount of stock, healed in storage and on display. This dose not affect the online services. Rather they're well suited for collecting; App Orders, as there's a cafe, dali & located in a Shopping Centre. Car-Park, Car-Wash on hand make this a great Centre of Trade!

  • Regina Fugat

This is Australia's oldest and most prestigious shopping destination in Malvern (CBD) Melbourne; it is considered a premier shopping experience. You'll be spoilt for choice in the men's and women's department. The store is huge, five floors I think. Most of the high end brands are found here, so yes, it's pricey.

  • Daniel Chen

Probably the smallest David Jones I've ever seen, but somehow it still manages to have an incredible selection of goods, from clothes to homewares. There is even a David Jones food connected adjacent to it, which has incredible quality food, although for premium prices. But you do get what you pay for.

  • Eric 唐Tang 劭聿

I love David Jones Malvern Central store. It's not a big store but it is a very nice small to medium sized department store for the local neighbourhood. It has some really good shops and different departments. Staff members are friendly and polite. I really enjoy coming here every once a while!!!!

  • Kathleen Schmidt

If you can find a staff member chances are they will be rude, condescending and very unhelpful. I have been to this David Jones on a number of occasions and am yet to have a positive shopping experience there. For a David Jones I would expect so much more, dont waste your time here go to Myer.

  • Andre Boleto

This is always a friendly place. The lady that works at the Politix booth, Shoreh, was very helpful geting me the right fit for the jacket i wanted, and procured the item via another store and called me to get it at the store. She is excellent value and great customer service. Thanks Shoreh

  • Mahmoud Samira

Refuses to pay labourers they hire through agencies. Agencies chase up this David Jones for time sheets, it's as simple as sending a photo through email, but they won't even do that. Also some of the staff are extremely rude to labourers. This David Jones is an embarrassment to the name.

  • Robert Tampling

My friend and myself always enjoy the shops here . Bed Bath,+ Table. Adairs, Feathers, Peter Alexander , seed and DJ's Great looking around DJ'food area. Nice coffee shops there with good choices on their menus. Not too crowded and plenty of parking. Plus woolies with excellent service.

  • Sascha

I felt very well looked after by Brendan at DJ today, who was not only very knowledgeable and professional, but also really friendly and helpful! I received the same excellent service for both a cheap soap product initially and later for a very expensive product. Thank you, Brendan!!

  • Salute Marisa

The gourmet food section was fantastic, although sadly the country road women's section was embarassing,it just looked sooo messy with minimal stock and who can tell where witchery ends and country road starts on top of all that not a staff member to be found. Never again for me.

  • Sarah “The Sidge” Jane

Very deceptive at first with seemingly smaller store until you are inside where you are spoiled for choice and in a DJ's store as good as you can expect to be. Don't feel you just have to go to DJ's on Bourke or Chadstone to find what you're looking for these holidays!!

  • Helen Salt

I have always been a David Jones fan. We went out to find a few items we needed and we were not disappointed as we found them on Sale as well. The Staff were so courteous and helpful and at times hilarious. We really enjoyed our 3 hour shopping experience that day.

  • Perri McCarthy

I wandered into the underwear section late Friday. Half heartedly looking for a particular piece I needed for an upcoming event. Enza helped fit me with beautiful Simone Perele bras and I walked out very happy and not only ready for my event, but many more!

  • Gill Perkins

Only 1 consultant for ALL the make up brands. I wanted to ask about a particular product but she knew nothing about it and was extremely unhelpful. Very disappointed as it is difficult to come back yet again. This has happened to me several times now.

  • Peter Freeman

Great food and produce, Coffee outstanding, service pleasant , presentation supurb however the cakes are to be eaten but at the price they are way to expensive. I understand a lot of work goes into making these but seriously bring the price into line

  • Tom Taylor

The cafe is fantastic, fresh juices, beautiful coffee and yummy sandwiches. The food court is fancy and lots of interesting options. The store is always clean. The staff are helpful. Although it’s a small David Jones is has everything you need.

  • HY Wang

We happened to come by this area and chance upon Malvern Central. Upon stepping in, we saw David Jones. A single floor store that covers Men, Women and Kids sections. Pretty neat and felt a different experience than the traditional David Jones.

  • Julianna Mahoney

Today's experience was wonderful!!! A lady Leanne was extremely helpful with the Polo kids shoes that I was buying, and just generally lovely to deal with. The 2 ladies in kids clothes were amazing too! Such a great shopping experience!

  • Julie McHarg

Can I pass on my thanks to the slightly older lady (and pardon my description) with the short grey hair, in the jewellery and scarf department. I am a frequent customer to Your store and she is always a delight and very helpful.

  • Peter K

This store has a weird vibe about it. So many staff yet everyone looking down and never making eye contact doing their best to avoid you. It’s a pretty unwelcoming store really which is a shame as it has a great food court.

  • S BC

Horrendous service at the Trenery/Country Road counter. 3 people working but just chit chatting about their lives, so unfriendly, not even a greeting. Buying from them seems like an inconvenient interruption to their day.

  • Pria Crow

Very little selection of anything, barely any stock rather bland and empty store. Nice that it's local but would be better if there's Was items and clothing to buy instead of having to go to chadstone to get anything.

  • Cathy P

Went to david jones yesterday omg well done on being a lovely store . And thank God you have staff serving and helping customers, It is so to go shopping and have help when looking for something. Thankyou …

  • Jackie Gibney

Although there was limited seating available, you could only purchase coffee in a take away cup, no sugar on the table, and no spoon or stirrers either, not the sort of service one would expect from this store!

  • Colleen Aukstikalnis

Coffee shop terrible. 4 servings of coffee offered to our table, none of which were ours. Sent back latte as it was served with boiled burnt milk. No smiles from the wait staff. The store itself was lovely.

  • Annie Sun

The food at David Jones cafe was really delicious. Absolutely loved my roast beef and the side dishes were spot on. Would’ve been even nicer if they were served in proper plates instead of a takeaway box.

  • Cherie Morgan-McGrory

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE - David Jones, one stop destination shopping. Great selection, quality & friendly staff. Linda in footwear & David in Luggage provided outstanding customer service! Great sale on luggage.

  • C Red

Awesome DJ's with really, really helpful staff. I had an awesome experience earlier today with over the top customer service that left me walking away with what I wanted and at a sale price. Thanks again

  • Ash

Great specials in the store with helpful staff. The new food hall is great and their fresh cooked roast pork....AMAZING!! They open the cafe daily were you can stop and have a nice coffee and snack

  • Laurence Quinlivan

Internal coffee shop was excellent attribute. Manager Lachlan was refreshingly attentive and offered detailed advice about food and drink offerings. The tables were clean and service spot on.

  • cartoonrob

Very limited range of higher than average priced to expensive clothing aiming at the local demographic of Malvern/ Armadale. Friendly staff. Looks pretty empty of customers on a Sunday arvo.

  • George Mann

i had the pleasure of stephanie tsonis looking after me in the menswear department . fantastic customer service skills . a true asset to david jones . thank you stephanie i will be back .

  • Claire F

I still miss Target, which occupied this floor space in Malvern Central. A small department store, it's nonetheless preferable to going to Chadstone but it doesn't offer a full range.

  • Rosemary Swindells

Just was " Browsing" as looking for a present for friends birthday Store is very pleasant to wander through.Staff enquired if I needed help a few times Was easy to find my way around.

  • George H

The service at David Jones is usually pretty good. Especially in the homeware department. Friendly staff, lots of parking, and what I love is that DJ does prove matching. Love it.

  • James Benben

I miss the roast chickens, they were so good, even if the guy that used to serve them was incredibly rude. Now I have to go to Woolies to get my chicken, very disappointed.

  • Pete Canny

I had a terrific experience there. Steph helped me a lot when selecting a couple of shirts. I was so pleasantly impressed at the level of customer service I received.

  • Tim Biss

Today I had a very kind and understanding resolution experience with Gemma the store manager at the Malvern store. I would commend her and recommend her management.

  • Simon Thomas

Started delivering to the Food Hall here towards the end, a lot of nice guys that have since left. Sad to see the Food Hall has since closed here and South Yarra

  • Steve Williams

The question is why even bother: opening or going. Service abandoned DJs Malvern long ago, now it is the turn for stock. Sorry we don't have that - try Chadstone

  • Hazel Megas

Clean modern store. Food court was popular. I bought a small carrot cake from the bakery and it was very tasty. They have many gourmet food products.

  • Stephen Plunkett

While the staff are helpful, the DJs systems always seem to fail. Stock count never right do when a good deal comes up you just get screwed around.

  • Rory Smith

A pleasure to shop there. High quality goods and very professional service in all areas. The food hall is small but very tempting.

  • Janelle Berry

Great store really friendly and helpful staff. So great to not have to go into the city for a fabulous shopping experience …

  • John Chen

The lady wasn’t very helpful at appliance department and unauthorised sign me up the membership during check out. Not happy!

  • Marie Middleton

David Jones is our performed department store, largely due to a lot of excellent staff. Thank you Paul of Southland …

  • C M

Good range of women’s wear - good cross sections of what is available at Chadstone. Ladies serving are always helpful.

  • That guy

Smaller than most David Jones stores but still has a pretty good variety considering it's in a small shopping centre.

  • יהודית אונפנגר
