"Hello"
"My son purchased a graphic novel which had an issue with the stitching within the book and the pages were falling out"
A Lovely book store with great vibes, however the staff member who served me was incredibly rude and almost angry that I asked her for help. I was looking for a specific author and a book by them. She was immediately told me that they had nothing out the back in a rude tone and that they don't have any. I hadn't even asked if they had any out the back, but she was already just rude and short with me. I said to her that I saw they had stock online and she straight away doubted me nd was like Well did you see if it was online specifically and did you click on the button that Said in store. Of course I did! Then she started ranting about how customers are stealing those specific things and just seeming really annoyed that I was even asking her and making her help me/go out of her way. Also just complaining to me, when I was just looking for the book. When asking me again what the author was, I was just so anxious and nervous around her that my memory issues also played a part and I froze up. She kept pushing me for the authors name, what it's spelt like, that she doesn't know how to spell that sorta thing (in a kind of shaming, rude tone about manga). I was just very anxious and found it difficult to interact with her. Eventually she went and looked briefly and told me they didn't have it and basically sorry, bye. Which I wouldn't mind, things happen. But her rudeness towards me, pushing me for authors name and spelling when I was frozen/anxious/scared was just awful. I won't be going back to this dymocks. QBD is much better in the city.
A decent general bookstore with a wide range of frontlist titles and the occasional interesting backlist - you might get lucky. No deep sections that I can find. On the odd occasion I have made a special order the staff have been "reticent" and I now do my special orders elsewhere. A wide range of gift stationery (including Lamy pens) and other gift items (coffee cups, teatowels etc) is available along with jig saw puzzles. The new premises downstairs in Queen St is roughly the same size or a bit smaller than the old store upstairs on Albert St. I find it a bit harder to see my way around as the shelving is higher. Altogether a good store. (Disclaimer: I am a "booklover" loyalty member. I did not receive anything in exchange for this review)
A great range and sizable store with plenty of space between the aisles and some comfortable chairs so you can browse without feeling cramped, have q quick look in books and your partner or company can sit while they wait if books aren't their thing. The staff are friendly and happy to help, if you need anything just ask them and if they don't know they will find out for you. The prices may not be as cheap as some online bookstores but as far as retailers go, if you're looking for a new release or partway through a series it's a great place to get it quickly. The Brisbane city store definitely has one of the best ranges and it is pretty huge for a book store. They also have diaries and notebooks and gifts etc downstairs as well.
Hello. I was in your store between 11-12 midday today. I was busy selecting books for my avid reader teenage daughter, who is currently away for a month on school camp with no reading material. I was busy searching and purchasing books to send her. I was assisted by one of your staff members (sorry I didn’t read her name badge), she was an elderly lady. She was extremely helpful in suggesting books and very knowledgable. I purchased a large pile of books based on her recommendations. I will definitely return and look for her for assistance. Thank you very much, she definitely made it a pleasant experience.
My son purchased a graphic novel which had an issue with the stitching within the book and the pages were falling out. The staff especially Michelle went above and beyond to ensure we could get our book exchanged as we live on the Gold Coast and only visited Brisbane for the day. The exchange was quick and very well handled! Thank you again Michelle for excelling in your customer service and great communication throughout the transaction and also for helping get a new book to my son so quickly as well. Can’t wait to go back in on my next trip to Brisbane to grab some more good reads for our family!
Good location and friendly, helpful staff. A nice variety with a clean vibrant atmosphere. I go to book stores with my young daughter who is,mental for books. I was looking for Russian language books and they had a good variety at reasonable prices. They had some great specials with new releases and popular books to suit all. if they do not have they will order for you. I will return. They also sell other nik naks which makes for a nice browse and usually some fun funky things that you would not expect in a book store.
The new location is great. The various genres are easier to find and there's a great range of books which seem to be restocked very regularly. The fountain pen and notebook selection is great - tester pens seem to no longer be on display (likely because they'd be destroyed), but there's a good selection of Lamy ink and some Kaweco and J. Herbin inks too. Love the place. (although there is very little mobile reception in the store so it would be nice if there was an information screen to search for books with)
The older I get, the bigger my book addiction becomes. This place is definitely worth a visit. Split over two levels, the store covers everything from cards, diaries, notebooks, pens and quirky gifts (ground floor) to book, book, book and more books (first floor). The staff are friendly and happy to assist with finding a book or placing an order if something is not in store. Alternatively if you cannot wait, the staff tell you which other stores have a copy.
Big bookshop. Lots of titles. I get a bit lost and confused as to what I might buy. I don't know why but can't seem to relax in here so either buy quickly or get out. I was asked by an older guy who worked there if he could help me. He was nice and went off to find an historical novel that I was looking for. It was my first time in here since moving. I preferred other venue but to be honest prefer smaller bookshops. Service was good and people nice.
Absolutely terrible customer service with my online order! It’s been over two weeks since the order was placed (well past the estimated delivery date) and no replies to my emails or calls! I then get a generic update saying that the delay is due to the Australia Post, but my order hasn’t even shipped yet! I’m completely sympathetic to the impact of COVID but to have no reply for weeks and then to blame the post is unacceptable.
A big chain store with small business vibes. I love it. Such a large range of books and the store itself is so pleasant to be in. The staff are always so friendly and helpful. The prices are affordable and they usually always have some good sales on too. The newer city location is SO big! It’s great. Close to all the other stores and coffee shops around, parking etc. Also a great place to buy gifts and stationary from.
The stationary floor alone makes this one of my favourite bookshops around the city. They've got a wider range of books here than other Dymocks I've been to, as well, likely in part to do with the amount of space they've got to work with. I like a number of the other bookstores around town, but I keep gravitating back to this one, and it has a lot to do with how much money I can spend on quality stationary here.
Customer service was excellent and exceptional. I couldn't find the two books i was looking for and enquired at the counter. The one attendant searched the computer base whilst simultaneously the second attendant, without further adieu, went looking on the shelves and found the items in a few seconds. All with a smile and very courteous polite interaction. Well done, this is what customer service is all about!
With it's new location this has become the best dymocks I have been to. The store is large and has a lot of books spanning many different sections. The staff are very friendly and are always able to help find the book you need. So far I haven't been disappointed when visiting. It's great to see smaller sections like Manga and New age expanding as I've previously had issues finding these!
Great stock and amazing collection of books. The staffs are very efficient and helpful. Prompt in guiding customers to the relevant shelf. In occasions where a book I have been searching for was out of stock, the staffs were quite happy to look for order and get options. Love the reading corner too. Real good for a quick read before buying or even to sit and read for sometime.
I’ve never spent as long time in any book store than I did here. I weighted down each book candidate on my hand and tried to figure out their weight - so many books and only 23 kilos of carriage per luggage allowed in a plane. Why don’t the book stores have scales where customers could see how much they can still buy. :) A great store, I really enjoyed it. Bought two books.
Smaller than it used to be but good range of books. Especially cook books. Has a small but good range of nursing, anatomy and psychology books. Would be even better if they had textbooks in stock but all the staff are super helpful and I love the fact that they all have a love for books and reading and happy to recommend books based on each customers personal interest.
I was quite amazed that this bookstore quite have a large collection of books. When Borders went to insolvency as well as other businesses nowadays. I gave up going to bookstores because they only have a small selection of book. Most of the time they do not have the book in store. But surprisingly this book has it and many more. The staff were very helpful. ⭐⭐⭐
One of my favourite place to be. Love the atmosphere and the smell that books offer. I can spend hours getting lost between all the different sections and I always find gems to take home. Hard place for your wallet if you love books hehe. I really appreciate how friendly and helpful the staff were, helping me to find the different books I was looking for.
If I was to be stuck in a place for isolation due to some panademic (which would never happen because pandemics don't happen kidding!) I would choose this place. The collection of books is amazing, the service is friendly and helpful and the atmosphere is amazing. I have sent many of my friends to this place and highly recommend it to anybody
Amazing. I love the new store, such a lovely space. The underground feel works really well. Excellent collection of pens and note books, great collection of unique and quirky puzzles. I really like the layout and sectioning, huge collection of philosophy and psychology books. Still my favourite place to go and blissfully pass a few hours! Great team!
Clean, uncluttered bookstore with plenty of space between the bookshelves to accommodate one customer on each side while avoiding encroachment on personal space. The staff were kind enough to slip a nice handwritten message on the first page of my book, which I did not see until after I’d got home and started reading. Thank you …
The best chain book shop in the city. Very extensive range of books, nicely presented. Travel section has a small range of cicerone walking guides, that I have seen in no other bookshop in Australia, so full marks for that. History section is not bad. Certainly miles ahead of the pathetic selection in most bookshops these days.
Plenty of friendly staff and an excellent selection of books across many genres. Staff were always able to help me out with finding books or ordering in books that were out of stock. The membership service is great too since it gives you a little bit of credit back on every purchase which you can then use on future purchases.
Lovely selection of puzzles - probably the most extensive kitsch collection of puzzles in Brisbane! The perfect place to stop for a quirky / funny / beautiful greeting card for almost any occassion. Impressive stock of children's books and the customer service is always above and beyond. Very often promos in store too!
The place is really chill, has nice lighting and feels very comfy. Lots of books of various types and genres, as well as a absolutely banging manga section. Only problem is that they have like three of volume three, but not volume one of a series. So yeah, if there's any criticism I would give it's that.
I really enjoy visiting this bookstore. Ground level has a great selection of gifts & stationery. I can always find a lovely gift. Up the escalator & you enter the glorious, wonderful, comforting world of books. I wander & view the tantalising titles. Something for everyone hopefully. Treasure awaits.
Large sized, two storey bookstore with a huge variety. One of the charms of the store is their staff recommendations (near the counter) which are always worth checking out. This store also stocks a lot of interesting editions of books, including some with gold pages, limited edition covers and so on.
Very impressed with the knowledge all staff have, and even when they don't know about a certain book etc, they'll immediately help any way they can. I've had many books ordered in and I love how quick and easy it is to receive them! A huuuuge thanks to the staff for being great conversationalists!
A treasuretrove. Nive location. Well at my first visit I was a quite lost. But the team members are very helpful. Also each section is well marked out with different categories. Besides you will ge a lot of ideas for gifts. Guess what you will earn points in every purchase!!
Rarely have to go without a title you want here. Wicked Horror, Cookbooks galore and stationary. The website tells you about the range if your looking for books on a subject and the search function helps you to narrow it down. You just have to front, and ask for the title.
Great range of travel, fiction, kids, reference, business to suit most general consumption. Large store on 2 levels. Seating available for a quick read. Can be busy due to location, but I find the service is good and normally get sorted pretty quickly.
Horrible returns policy. I got a pen set as a gift for my birthday & wanted to return it. Apparently they ‘ do not accept returns on stationary’ which is ridiculous… I had the receipt & the item was untouched. What despicable customer service.
I was unable to find the exact book I wanted locally and thought I’d try Dymocks Brisbane over the phone. Sophie was very helpful and organised for the book to be posted to me. Helpful staff makes such a difference and I am very grateful.
The best bookshop on Queensland. Such a great experience right from the entrance. With such a quaint entrance it is almost magical as you go down stairs to such a large space. There is no doubt you will find any book you want here.
I love this store. My only "first-world" problem is that there's no mobile coverage here, probably due to being underground. Maybe you can offer free wifi, so I can spend more money in your store after researching titles online.
Wonderful just to walk into a real book shop again. Even the smell brings back cheerful memories. Clean tidy and well stocked. The range of editions was so pleasing to browse. Make it a must next time you visit the city .
Good selection of books, laid out in clearly marked sections. Staff are, mostly, friendly and helpful. Loses stars for being very expensive compared to online stores like Amazon or Booktopia who are usually much cheaper.
Excellent selection of books on just about any subject a book lover could ask for. I have been going here for years. The staff are well informed and very helpful. I cannot rate this bookstore highly enough.
Amazing bookstore. Loads of selection and so beautifully presented. Our family can spend a long time here browsing through their books. Has a wide range of family games and activities and stationery.
Staff are very helpful. They have a membership card which you can redeem on your next purchase. Medium size floor and able to order books in that Dymocks doesn't have in at time of visit.
The new store location is a lot smaller than the previous one and the prices are still too high. However, the staff are always incredibly helpful and the product range is outstanding.
Great range of books, they often have hard to source books from international authors. They have a great rewards system that gives cash discounts on future purchases. Friendly staff.
Great selection of books but there are some frumpy, grumpy spinster types working here who seem to be more interested in getting home to their cats than providing customer service.
A good selection of books, aircon'ed store which provides a nice escape from the heat - little seats that you can sit on when searching for books. Staff are very helpful.
Really lovely staff! Very helpful. Looked up a book for me and helped me find it. A great selection of books and a really nice set out store. Would definitely recommend.
I love a good bookstore, they are a rare breed these days. I used to spend the whole day when it was two storeys. Still good even with the current scaled back version
Helpful and wonderful staff, beautiful layout and location, lots of options and varieties. I love bookstores and could happily spend hours and hours in here …
A large bookstore right in Queen Street Mall with multiple floors and a wide selection of books. They also have plentiful, lovely journals, pens, and stationary.
Large bookstore in Brisbane cbd mall. Downstairs from street level.. escalators available. Good range across fiction non fiction and young readers. Helpful staff
They have a great variety of books and the store has a characteristic smell. I came looking for a book and apparently it is only available on Dymocks chermside.
I luv walking the isles and discovering something to read. I never leave Dymocks without visiting the travel section and discovering how beautiful the world is.
Fantastic selection of books and categories. Understandably a little more expensive than online sellers, but one of the few bookstores left. Use it or lose it!
I went in for a retirement card for a colleague and they had a great selection... I got an oversized one and was in and out in less than 5 mins, great service.
Not a regular Dymocks. Larger then normal. And nice gift shop kind of area. Books where hard to find tho. Which is weird because it's a book store.
Great! Was playing a game Caslevania lords of shadow then found this book which looks great! They definitely have quailty products here and prices.
Great new store, right on the middle of the mall. More books available now then there were in there old store. That book air smell is there too ...
So great to still have a real bookstore in town, where you can go and be among books, see them and touch them and look through the pages.
Went last weekend and saw their wide range of manga series. I purchased Spy x Family and really enjoyed it. I would certainly recommend.
Well laid out with a wide range. I got great help on my book search which was available from another store, so had options.
More a gift shop than a bookshop these days. Ordering online means added costs for postage and a wait for delivery.
Amazing store, plenty of books HUGE store. Staff are incredibly friendly. So many choices it was hard to choose.
Staff member not very professional, not helpful and disinterested in serving. Wouldnt bother going there again.
Spacious store hidden under CBD, poor 4G/5G reception though but who needs data at a book shop …
really big bookstore over two levels. prices are standard and easy to navigate around. staff are friendly.
An oasis of calm in Brisbane. Helpful yet not intrusive staff. ...and they stock the world's best paper.
Went in, got help from one of the staff, bought my book and left. Perfect mission, place is amazing
Great selection of books and friendly and helpful staff in case you cannot make up your mind.
Very tidy and not too cramped. No phone signal so could use some free wifi. Helpful staff
How wonderful that book shops seem to be making a comeback. Five stars all round, I say!
Great book shop! Large space and great variety of books, loved the kids book section.
Wide range of books and lovely gifts you can get. Shop assistants are always helpful.
Great book store with wide and varied selection that other book stores do not carry
Very helpful staff. Happy to order items in and help locate what I was looking for
One of the best bookshops in Brisbane. Great selection and knowledgeable staff.
Good place for book lovers and readers. Wheelchair accessible. Friendly staff.
Great collection of books and stationary..located at a happening place as well
One of my favourite places. Great selection of books and very helpful staff
Fantastic bookstore with a great range. Wish we had this in Wellington
What a spectacular store! Definitely worth a visit for any book lover.
Stellar bookstore, helpful staff and they can do special orders
