Overall: 5/5 BEST ALMOND CROISSANT EVER. IN MELBOURNE. Better than your infamous TV-broadcasted ones. I am a sucker for almond croissants, whether it’s filled with frangipane or custard creme with other exciting elements such as yuzu or some lemon zing. Top pastry shops or patisseries definitely raise the benchmark at a competitively difficult level, but this tiny bakery on Gordon St surpass it with such ease. You can really see how much fun the bakers have when making the creamy filling in the almond croissants as well as their beautiful arrangement of sourdough breads. They serve a small variety of baked goods and are only open Thursdays-Sundays, but they do their best in showcasing their passion in patisseries. Almond croissant (5/5): Lune have a citrusy flavour and double-baked croissant exterior, and Bakemono have the most amazing light yet creamy yuzu filling with their well-toasted almonds. With that in mind, Gordon St has the texture of that double-baked flakiness and perfectly-toasted almond croissants. Most importantly, the creamiest frangipane ever to exist that I still dream about - not too sweet with enough kick. Generous filling compared to other bakeries. Make sure to lick that frangipane good because you’ll be on the ground dying from how good it is and how bad it’ll be if it went to waste. Cheese stick (4/5): When you thought the flakiness from the almond croissant is enough, this was just beyond flaky. Idk but I found this a bit too excessive. All that flake falls off from the bread and you lose about 1/5 of your pastry. Other than that, omg so buttery and rich in that cheese flavour. Flavour reminds me of your Baker’s Delight cheese breads in terms of saltiness. Worth a try! Overall, very cheap for stealing the spot for my favourite food in the entire universe. Service is very streamlined and fast, especially when their breads and pastries are made and brought to the display window in front of you. Will be seeing me there more often and can’t wait to try their other pastries and breads. Heard their olive sourdough is amazing! Food: 5 Value: 5 Ambience: 5 Service: 4

I work at the mental health ward at Footscray hospital and this week, my colleague and I were having a stressful time with the new lockdown announced. I go every week to the bakery to pick up their beautiful sourdough for the weekend and to get a coffee with their beautiful croissants. Today, they gave me a free croissant! Just made my day and cheered me up after a rough two weeks of work. It was such a special gesture. They remember my name and they know my coffee as well - very warm, friendly people with beautiful baked goods. The almond croissant is to die for! Thoroughly recommend - go early coz they always sell out by 12 pm which is when I have my lunch break! Just thought that I absolutely had to review them today!

Arrived there with high expectations from the other reviews I had read, walked in and experienced a let down. The smell was nothing like even the smallest bakeries of southern France I experienced whilst walking the Camino trail from Le Puy en valley onwards towards Santiago. Here the baguettes are gluggy, not the light, airy, crunchy and wonderous feel/flavour/experience I recall. The chocolate croissant is just ok leaving a feeling of just, Meh. It must be the ingredients. No french butters and flours? Wouldn't recommend going there if you know what a real bakery in France is like. To others, perhaps Gordon street Bakery is a haven?

The food here is absolutely jaw droppingly good. Their pastry melts in your mouth, all of the textures and flavours are absolutely perfect. Super cheap for a breakfast/brunch/lunch visit with decent coffees - it's often packed though for its small size so don't expect to get a seat right away (if at all). They only serve a few delicacies, so don't go here if you're wanting a hot meal/pie/sandwich/typical bakery cake - they specialise in Croissants, bread, cookies and cheese sticks and coffees - that's just about their whole menu, but they have mastered each item (bar the coffees, they're just average).

One of the most popular bakery in the west. We were introduced and recommended by my friend (thanks a Harry :D). He bought some for us to try out. My favorite is definitely the almond croissant. Very flaky and tasty. The cheesy vegemite is other's favourite. I dont eat vegemite so not a big fan but others said that they liked it a lots, not strong taste of vegemite. Cinnamon roll and pain au chocolate were ok too. Will be back to try their other pastries and maybe the coffee even my friend said it is just so so. Their pastries are very popular and can run out quicky so come early to grab some.

Fresh bread that appears (and tastes) like it was baked daily. We tried the olive bread loaf, cinnamon roll, and baguette. Not too many other items on the menu, but would return to try some of the others after our first go (eg choc crossaint looked pretty good)! Gets quite popular and packed inside as it is a small bakery, so get in early so you won't miss out. Not opened every day/regular business hours, worth checking before you decide to head there. Streets can also get quite busy, and parking is scarce due to the Western Health/Footscray Hospital being across the road.

The team here produce one of the best croissants in Melbourne. It's in my top 5. Great lamination skills for sure. I'm a massive fan of a plain croissant and I wish Gordon St Bakery was Southside where I am. I would recommend going early on a Thursday or a Friday, that was you'll beat the wait times. Their almond croissants and bread is great too, but I prefer my plain croissants. The new fit out looks great. Cheese twists are also a must try!!! They've recently added a few new products and they look great. Like the vegan croissants for example.

  • F Paul

We bought almond croissant, almond chocolate croissant, galette, and olive sourdough. I'm not a sweet food person but even I could tell the croissants and galette are really good. It's slightly too sweet for my palate, but not overly sweet. The pastry though, it's amazing. Flakey, buttery, and light. The highlight of my day is the olive bread. Very flavourful just by itself. I prepared a dipping of olive oil with garlic. Must try! There's no sitting in the area, only take aways. Edit: bought cheese sticks the next day. Yum yum!

The BEST sourdough I've ever had. Truly phenomenonal. Soft, doughy and genuinely slightly sour insides, with a crunchy chewy crust that doesn't break your teeth like other sourdough crusts. The almond croissants are also the best I've ever had. Usually everything is still warm from the oven when I buy it . I really should try other things but I'm so stuck on these two that I tend to just stick to what I know and love. Never change and never close please, Gordan St Bakery!

  • Paul Altamore

Selection of Sourdough loaves and French style boulangerie items in Footscray. The cinnamon scroll & almond croissant we're excellent, the white sourdough loaf was crusty and chewy, a delight. Not great ambience as a cafe, but come early and get the bakery items to take home for breakfast. Some complain that it's hours are too limited and they run out of items too early. It is a bakery, not a cafe or restaurant. As in most aspects of life, you snooze you lose!

  • Chantelle Nibert

Gordon Street Bakery is a lovely little gem with a small but delicious range of French pastries, their almond croissant is something to rave about. The baker makes everything fresh himself and his passion is evident in the flavors. Some menu items pop in and out so check in regularly to try something new. The coffee is good, and seating is limited with 4 tables seating 3-4 people per table. Free water is available.

  • V Bayliss

Hi team I used to go to your store almost every day as I work at Western Hospital. I started to notice your croissants are getting smaller. I do understand keeping the same price longer than 2 years during high inflation is tough but it’s sad to see the quality going down. This is not a good croissant n started to see more of your croissants like the photo. Pls bring your old magic back.

  • gemmacaf

Get in early to avoid missing out! This place does a heaving trade, particularly on the weekends when queues form down the street. The pastries are all delicious. The croissants are delightful, and as someone who normally hates the OTT almondy-ness of almond croissants, I love a Gordon St choc almond croissant. Plus the bread is delicious, particularly the baguettes and their grain loaf.

  • John McNab

It's quite simple: This place know's exactly what they're doing. Their baking is revealing, it's completely satisfying and pure happiness. Their sourdough is tasty, crunchy crust rustique baguettes like I used to buy them in France, the best amond croissants in Melbourne, rye bread like in Germany. 1:1. Awesome. Best European dark breads in Melbourne. Seriously.

  • Craig Lawrence

Wow!! Great bread. Seriously great. Ordered a loaf of sour dough, a baguette, croissants and various other French pastries to go. They were all awesome. Went back the next day at 12:45pm and the baker said (with a French accent) “no no, so sorry, we sold out of bread at 11:30am today”!! French accent is so hot. I smiled and left with more croissants.

  • Emma Rose

I come here every weekend! Gordon Street Bakery is always 10/10. My favourite is the almond croissant, usually it is still a bit warm when I eat it, the filling is to die for. The baguettes are also incredible, I usually buy it with the intention of making sandwiches but end up ripping bits off and eating the bread by itself because it is so tasty.

  • Jenny Tran

Came at about midday on Wednesday and there were so many pastries left! Tried their choc croissant, cheese twist and baguette. Choc croissant was crispy and chewy, solid croissant!! Have yet to taste the cheese twist and baguette but I'm sure they're delicious. No parking right out front but there's some around the back!

  • James Gale

Extremely good croissants - easily on par with the other famous croissants places around the city. Their Sourdough loaves are also excellent although I personally prefer a high top shape over the cobs that they sell. Parking is fine when I go (weekends before 8am) but I can imagine it would get very busy come 9am or so.

  • Nikolas Skoufis

Amazing bread (the olive is our favourite), and incredible treats. The chocolate almond croissant is a stroke of genius. And the cheese sticks. The. Cheese. Sticks. The sleeper hit. Soft, layered, delicious bits of leftover croissant dough with cheese added in, light and fluffy and flaky and buttery and just amazing.

  • IGuideU

Relatively new to the area and a pretty simple little bakery. No hot goods on offer - maybe 10 items for sale at the counter. Open 4 days a week I think, a few hours at a time. Excellent Breads and pastries. Coffee was decent, croissant was good also. There is no seating anymore or coffee served after lunch.

  • Hyein Yu

The world's best bakery ever. Everything is literally ANOTHER LEVEL. They're sooooo goood,, these are REAL pastry and sour dough Cheese stick is my favorite, but also almond, chocolate almond, cinamon rolls, cookie, palmier ,,maybe everything but i'm not kidding literally everything is worth it to try …

  • Mikaera Hakaraia

The best croissants Ive had in Melbourne. Different to the ones you get at Vic market or south melbs in that they are not overly sugary but every bite is like a soft pillow of heavenly love. You feel so good after eating these croissants, I’m pretty sure God blesses each one as they are in the oven.

  • M Q

Highlight is the almond croissant, flaky outside, soft sweet inside. I like that it's not pretentious which is reflected in their pricing, i get the feeling they just want to serve straight up quality pastry and bread without all the bells and whistles and hipster fanfare, good work guys keep it up

  • Ayat Elkerdawy

I am glad they are not open all weekday , otherwise I would have put on weight as cannot resist the smell of freshly baked croissants The taste of butter , crispy layers ooh amazing. Staff are so sweet I always get my croissant on Friday mornings to give me the motivation for the day

  • Fiona Duell

Due to corona restrictions, there will be a line out the door! Delicious baked goods - I wish I could marry their cookie. The service is always so quick and helpful, even if I'm asking about bread types or for recommendations. love that you can see everything from the front of the store.

  • Charlene Chan

Delicious French baked goods. I have adopted the habit of taking a pinch off the end of the baguette from the Parisians. QC! Coffee is available too. Get there early to ensure there is something left for you to buy! Follow your nose down Gordon Street to find this wonderful bakery.

  • Bubbles T

Best almond and cinnamon scroll. Almond filling and cinnamon dust are generous. Scroll is so light and crunchy when heated up the next day too. Portion size is better than most other bakeries in Melbourne and reasonably priced. Hope there is one open up in the East soon.. …

  • Jo Yap

The west is getting richer because of bakeries like this. Over time they became quite successful and moved to a larger space. Plain croissant, choc croissant, almond croissant and choc almond croissant- all pretty decent but having them fresh is even better

  • Tia

small and quaint, minimal selection of pastries but it seems like they've really mastered what few they offer. the almond croissant was so divine i completely devoured it before my coffee was even ready. the coffee was also excellent. definitely recommend!

  • Giovanni Rinaldi

Freshly baked goods in the morning. Pretty cheap compare to most places. Their croissant is superb! Buttery layers, flaky exterior and fluffy interiors. The double baked almond and the cheap cheese sticks are the highlight. A true hidden gem in Footscray.

  • Kai Ooi

Glad to finally try this after coming earlier in the week and they were closed. Reckon it's better than Lune. Part of me doesn't want them to get too famous/busy so at least when we go there will be seats! Lol just joking. Welcome to Footscray :-)

  • Zoë Burdock

The croissants here are so good they make other cafes in the area look like they sell supermarket brand. The humble plain croissant is king, but special mention to the almond which was probably the best I've ever had. Bread is pretty fantastic too

  • Rebecca Swinton

Amazing bakery in Footscray. Go early to avoid disappointment of it being sold out. Excellent French patisserie selection. The chocolate almond croissant is amazing as is the cheese sticks and olive bread. Always friendly and efficient service too

  • claire jones

So many reasons to come here, walnut baguette fo the soul, almond croissant for the lips and everything else for the hips. Coffee is damn fine. Don't tell everyone, it's really great without being hipster tragic. I wish it was closer to my home.

  • Isabelle Fisher

I love this bakery - mostly because of their cheesymites (literally one of the best things I've ever had), but they have really nice olive bread, good coffee and a good selection of sweet pastries! Will always be a loyal customer to this place.

  • Teiqua Ireland

Such an awesome addition to this pocket of Footscray! So glad we live close by and can pop in early, these guys are producing such a good product that they often sell out. Hot tip: the olive bread is insane and stays deliciously fresh for days.

  • Clare Gray

Gordon St Bakery has the best coffee! Also the staff are very friendly. Working around the corner it is so handy. All the staff that I work with love the Palmiers, Croissants and all the beautiful breads. Would highly recommend them to anyone.

  • pat leamon

The sourdough had a nice thick skin and moist inside. The kids loved the cheese stick, buttery pastry with a hit of salt from the melted cheese. Of all the pastries I enjoyed the cinnamon escargot the most, but they were all delicious.

  • Margaret Vo

as soon as i entered, the smell was like heaven! i ordered baguettes, plain croissants, choc croissants, almond croissant and cinamon rolls and the cheese sticks and everything was absolutely delicious, will be back again thanks a lot!

  • Kate Breen

Best bakery in Footscray/the west. Gordon St Bakery is my go-to weekend bakery for beautiful multi-grain sourdough and almond-choc croissants. The line says it all but always moves quick. Also great coffee always served with a smile.

  • Amanda P

Pastries to die for, go the choc almond croissants and the palmier..even the standard croissant is flaky yet crispy and buttery, you can't go wrong. Great coffee too. YUM YUM! Get there early on the weekend or else they're sold out!

  • Joshua Warren

Thank you so much for the glorious snacks donated to get me and my colleagues across the line on this Sunday afternoon at the hospital. It was a real morale booster! You guys rock! From the Footscray Hospital Emergency Department

  • David

Almond croissant here is one of if not the best I've ever had, everything else is really good. I noticed people compare this with Lune, but I'm not sure why you'd waste your time on an over hyped, over priced, inferior croissant

  • Laura Elia

Best croissants and baguettes in the world!! Gordon St Bakery honestly has the best bread and pastries in all of australia and even beats france! I went to france and their almond croissant especially cannot compare to gordon st

  • Doris Wu

Nice staff, good variety bakery. The bread is awesome but the pastry is average, 2/3 of the pastries I bought are slightly burnt/too dry. Not the top bakery in Melbourne but still above average bakery, especially in Footscray.

  • Rona A.

I am an absolute almond croissant fiend and this place has the BEST almond croissants. I can't describe to you how buttery, crisp, flakey their croissant is. The filling is generous and tastes so goooood, you can't go wrong

  • Pierre Breton

I am French, and I can tell you that the croissants and chocolate croissant are identical to those found in France. The baguette was also excellent. It was the first time I found this taste in Australia. Thanks a lot …

  • Masako Posteraro

I went to 2 times on Saturday morning and both time are sold out at 11:30 when I was there.... so popular or make only small amount of quality products for a day. I’m very dissapointed but I will try next time but earlier .

  • Joie Lou

Really yummy pastries - almond croissant $6, chocolate almond croissant $6.50. Both were rich and had to finish over two sittings but not sickly sweet, texture was crunchy on the outside but soft and pillowy inside. …

  • Claire ccy

Love all croissant from this bakery. It own and bake by French baker. It taste just as good as all the other famous French bakery in South Melbourne and Brunswick, but with a more reasonable price. Very friendly staff too.

  • Susanna Cornelius

We buy a sourdough and a wholemeal loaf every Thursday morning. In most small households, this would last days. In ours, they're gone 24 hours later. I don't even need a topping for the sourdough - I just devour it as is.

  • Kieran McCoey

Had no idea croissants could be this good. Seriously next level, the almond chocolate ones are incredible. One for the bucket list. Their breads are likewise life-altering. Get there by 12pm before it all sells out.

  • Georgia Avramopoulos

Absolutely ridiculously delishhhhhhh!!! And so so reasonable in price $5.50 for an Almond Croissant Get behind these guys and support them If I could give them 10 stars ⭐️ I would …

Just popped in as the store was closing, and snagged a couple of almond croissants - HOLY SHITBALLS THEY’RE AMAZING!! Warm, crusty, oozy filling - my partner proclaimed the best he’d ever had! We’ll be back!

I have loved coming here. The people are lovely and was a repeat customer during lockdown and never failed to make those days better. The bakers are also amazing - always a hit no matter what you buy.

They have some great treats here. The almond and chocolate croissant is probably the pick of the bunch, and and baguettes are delicious and have perfect crusty casings.

  • Reuben Phillips

Great bread, croissants, and coffee. Get there early to avoid the queue. It'd be five stars for me if the pain au raisin had creme patissiere instead of cinnamon in it!

  • Cherie Coon

This bakery is awesome.. delicious variety of fresh baked goods and the best coffee. Happy Friendly, staff great vibe.. you will need to queue but it is worth the wait.

This bakery smells good with a small but delicious selection of French pastries. Prices are lower than what you can find in the CBD. Definitely worth it!

  • Robin Malgoire

Bought a baguette for dinner. Give it a try with quick bite. The texture is perfect. Can stop to nibble it. It's dinner time, I have no baguette anymore.

  • Luca Pendragon

These cheesesticks are divine. I could eat them as is or as part of a beautiful platter and they would still be a star player. Croissants also excellent

French Baker-good pastries. The Palmier and Cheese Sticks are quite something. Parking can be an issue in this area- hardly their fault; just saying
