"I had the opportunity to walk through this garden when it was in full bloom in late May, and was so impressed with how well-tended and beautiful it was"
A city park worthy of five stars! It's free, clean, safe and convenient for parking. It has several doors that allow you to enter and exit easily, but pets are not allowed in. I entered from the side with wisteria. Under the corridor covered with wisteria, I smelled the faint smell of soil and flowers, and looked at the green rose fields. At this time, the roses were not in bloom, and most of them were buds. Only occasionally, you will find a few scattered blooming flowers. There is a fountain around the railing in the garden. The water from the fountain shines brightly in the sun. The water in the pool is clean and clear. Due to the epidemic, people pay attention to keeping a safe distance. Some sit around the bench next to the fountain to bask in the sun, some sit under the blooming tree to enjoy the flowers, and some enjoy the rose fields while walking. They see those blooming flowers taking photos with their mobile phones ... Everything here feels so good! A place worth coming to! I will definitely come back in the near future, when the garden will be more beautiful and better!
The time and effort put in by volunteers shows when you can catch the garden in full bloom. Do NOT pick the roses! You can be fined. Leave them for others to enjoy. Throughout most of the year, you can usually find some bushes blooming. The fountain provides a lovely focal point and the surrounding concrete benches provide an opportunity to sit and just be present and enjoy the surroundings. Away from the rose garden is a large, clear, and open grass area. No dogs allowed though and some trees surround the area to provide some shade. Along the Naglee street side of the park corner are some picnic tables and benches. Zanatto's Market and Deli is just down the street so it's a great opportunity to pick up something to eat and enjoy the roses or the grass scenery. It's not uncommon to find people picnicking among the rose bushes. Bathroom is available although cleanliness can be questionable.
I just checked out the Rose Garden in San Jose and holy moly, it's such a hidden gem! This small garden in the middle of the city totally blew me away. The garden has two parts – one with a bunch of different kinds of rose plants that you can wander through, and the other with a sweet patch of grass where you can chill and let the kiddos run wild. There's plenty of street parking available. The colors and smells are out of this world. It's the perfect place to snap some pics and spend an hour or so with the fam. And wait till you see the water fountain! It adds to the super peaceful vibe of the garden. The whole place is well-kept and clean, which makes it the perfect spot to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. Definitely put the Rose Garden on your must-visit list – you won't be disappointed!
Best blooming is in May; roses start looking a little worse for the wear once summer starts, but still something to see until early September. Compared to the nearby Guadalupe Gardens Rose Heritage Garden, this one is more stately with a fountain in the center. But both have a great variety of roses and rose arches. There is street parking on all four sides of the garden and public restrooms there too. There are always spots available. Common site for picnics and graduation photos. The sheer size of some rose hybrids and height of the numerous hedges are amazing! There are benches and trees for shade as well. Dogs are not allowed in the rose garden for obvious reasons but they are allowed on the paved path on the grassy area.
Restrooms
Two public restrooms
I had the opportunity to walk through this garden when it was in full bloom in late May, and was so impressed with how well-tended and beautiful it was. The roses smelled incredible as well! No trash on the ground, just beautiful petals from some of the flowers. They have roses on gazebos, all of the various different colors that you can imagine, including two-toned varieties, and they've trained roses on the fence that separates the park from the street. It's free to go in, and it's a great place to take engagement photos, have a picnic, or just take a stroll. This park is dog free, and signs indicate that you should never clip the roses. I don't think there's an exception for deadheading.
Dog-friendliness
A sign says dogs specifically are not welcome.
Fragrant, nice for mental health! Haha, this place was great, guess it's I'm the Rose garden district or something, but once you get to one of the gates it's a wonderful world full of many different varieties of roses. I parked on the southern most entrance on the street, easy enough to find parking, there was some broken glass, so obviously make sure you don't leave stuff out, but whatever. Seemed very well maintained and it was so pleasant to walk among the pathways of roses. Some were trellised and tall other were shrubs. Nice for taking photos. Plenty of space to find your own little area and a fountain in the middle. I believe the restrooms were closed at the time so they had porta potties.
This beautiful garden in San Jose is at its peak in May. Lucky to have visited it during spring to see full blooms and a splendid display of large rose varieties. :) Must visit for people who love floral beds of colorful roses. Great for photography and picnicking. Grass could have been better maintained but the roses seem healthy. Place is nice and clean. Good for couples and families alike.
Playground
Large ground. No play structures but kids can play around in adjoining grasslands.

Accessible restaurant. Clean restroom but would have liked it better if there were seat covers.

This place is amazing! We went on Memorial Day and every rose bush was in full bloom. Acres and acres of roses. Some taller than my mom and aunt. The breeze carried the lovely scent of roses. We loved smelling the roses. Instagram worthy photos everywhere. There were lots of people taking photos including recent graduates in their gowns. Others were having picnics on the grass. It was a lovely time and I honestly don't know why this isn't higher on visitor lists, especially because roses bloom from May to the fall. The volunteers who tend to this manicured garden must be angels. I can see why it won best rose garden.
One of the most beautiful botanical gardens/ park I've ever been to. Magical!
Restrooms
There are men's and women's restrooms but each one opposite sides of the park. Kinda annoying if you have kids because you have to walk back and forth when needed.
Picnic area
Picnic areas are plenty, pretty much allover, just find a spot near a rose trail and set up your romantic picnic or whatever picnic you are set to. My son and I love to set up beyween rose lanes a bit in the sun a bit in the shade. Everything is fabulous. I love the neighborhood too and the proximity to the Rosicrucian Museum.
Parking was on street, but easy and close. It was easy to socially distance. There are tons of roses to see and the landscaping is beautiful. There's a wonderful fountain in the middle with lots of seating around it. Though there are a few other places to sit, finding something in the shade was very challenging. I think this place could use a little more signage for types of roses...don't need big signs, but little signs near the ground would be perfect. I have a fascination with taking pictures of roses, so this was an ideal place to get these kinds of photos. Great place to go!
Such a beautiful experience. There's no doubt that the Rose Garden in San Jose lives up to its title as "America's Best Rose Garden"! ✨ From the moment we stepped foot in this enchanting paradise, I was captivated by the breathtaking beauty of the blooming roses With 3500 plantings and 189 varieties over 5 and a half acres of land - I was in absolute awe ❤️ Wandering through the garden, surrounded by my favourite flowers, with the air filled with the most beautiful scents, was an experience like no other. ✨
This place is so beautiful! There is 0 criticism I can say about this place Bathrooms are well kept and ventilated ✅ The garden is cleaned with 0 garbage✅ There are tons of areas where you can lay down next to a tree and chill✅

Visited Rose garden last weekend. Lots of roses are there. It is not a very big garden but lots of people visit here during weekends. There is huge empty ground is also available for picnic. Also observed lots of people with camera to capture beautiful pics. There is no designated parking area however lots of road side parking is available. Entry is free here. Must visit if you like to take pictures and small picnic. You can not spend more than 2 hours here since garden is small.
This is a wonderful place to visit if you want to see some amazing roses... There is a lot of picture opportunity during spring season and this park is free to visit. This park is located in a residential area and the car parking is on the side road. One star less as there are so many people in the park for professional photography that you have to wait to get good pictures at good spots. we visited on weekend and it was full of people. I guess it should be better on weekdays.
It's a really nice date place. Our fault for going in the winter, where the roses were very minimal, but the ones left thriving are beautiful. Leaves have browned and wilted, leaving the place looking melancholic, which surprisingly, I liked. I also like how each rose section is labeled as to what species, with QR codes so you can get pics and more info about the rose. Bring a blanket, picnic basket, wine.. I'll definitely remember to come back when the flowers are in bloom.
A huge collection of Rose varieties. This park is located amidst the urban settlement and provides open space for recreational activities. It has a nice water fountain in the center with stone benches all around. Rose plants were well maintained and was covered in flowers. The park can get busy during evening hours and weekends. The only downside was the restroom which was not well maintained and was smelling bad☹️. Hope they can keep the restrooms clean and well maintained.
Amazing place!!! We weren’t expecting this big crowd but oh my - it was packed. The garden is very colorful and it’s big too. You can sit there after taking a tour under the shade. There is no entry fee. Parking was pretty easy as well. They also have restrooms at the entrance. Overall really great place to go out with family - either picnic or just to relax. It’s a great place to go out on a picnic date too. Just make sure you get early enough to find that perfect spot.
A very beautiful neighborhood rose garden built in 1931 and is one of San Jose's historic landmarks. There is a fountain in the center with rows and rows of roses of many different colors and varieties. There are also many arches great for taking portrait pictures. In May when the roses are blooming, many people come here to take graduation pictures and even wedding pictures. There are restrooms on site. Parking is available on the streets around the park.
The Municipal Rose Garden in San Jose is a serene oasis bursting with natural beauty. The vibrant colors and fragrant blooms create a mesmerizing experience for visitors. Whether you're a flower lover or simply seeking tranquility, this garden is a perfect escape. The well-maintained pathways and neatly arranged beds showcase an impressive variety of roses. It's a delightful place for a leisurely stroll or a peaceful picnic.
A landscaped suburban rose garden with a central fountain, benches, paved paths for wheelchair accessibility, and creative names for roses posted in the municipal website. Plan to return when all roses are in bloom maybe late Spring to Summer. A few ladybugs and roses out. Ditto couples sitting on the grass with blankets and pillows. Maybe there should be romantic or meditation music playing in the background?
Had a great time walking around and seeing the roses! It was super sunny so bring a hat, the entrance is free and there is free street parking. We grabbed coffees from a near by coffee shop and took a stroll around the garden. The other side of the garden was open and there were lots of people enjoying the shaded parts of the garden. There was even a couple of people painting canvases of the flowers!
Its reputation preceded itself and I was engulfed in the serenity of its beauty. Mere words cannot convey the sensational experience of the grand entrance, through the visually captivating and scent-sational grass and paved walking experiences. I had always heard so much, but to open oneself on a lovely early evening, with moderate temperatures and sun bathed glints is nature healing at it's best.
A beautiful, scenic rose garden in San Jose. Roses in all possible colors and sizes adorn this park. It's maintained cleanly and is filled with people performing photo shoots. An absolute treat for the eyes. There's a big lawn for half the park to have picnics and play. The rest is filled with the magnificent roses. There's ample street parking and to top it off, it's free entry as well.
This garden was so much bigger than I expected. The flowers were so pretty but some were dying or haven’t sprouted. There weren’t that many people and it smells so good. The scene was relaxing and they have public restrooms! The parking is on the street so do be careful of on coming traffic. It’s worth going here not in the rainy season. Remember to wear sun screen!
We visited in November, which should have been well past the prime blooming time, but we were amazed at the volume of blooms. This rose garden is huge! Anchored by a large fountain and reflecting pond, the garden offers lots of private areas for photos or just enjoying the blooms. We enjoyed comparing colors and picking our favorite fragrances. Special place!
A relaxing and peaceful rosy place!! Awarded “America's Best Rose Garden” in 2021 You can find a wide variety of roses here It is my first time seeing that many roses and they are in different colors it is also a good spot for panic and friend gathering It is a good spot for wedding picture as well * easy to find a parking nearby * no entrance fee
Been coming here for years. I'm a local who loves & appreciates the Rose Garden. Been coming to the Rose Garden throughout my entire life and bringing family & friends, too. It's always lovely and kept up. Smells amazing and eye candy for days. If appreciate the simple pleasures and find beauty in nature, then it's a must. There is also a lovely fountain.
I am so glad and grateful to have this in San Jose for free. It’s a must-see for visitors and even a great weekly walk for locals. It’s larger than photography can capture! Plenty of free street parking around the perimeter because it’s in a residential area. Bring your own tissues/hand sanitizer because sometimes the bathrooms are out of stock.
We went in mid July 2023 after a bad heatwave . 1/2 of flowers show sign of sunburn.. but we still have a great time. Maverlous smell. Beautiful many different color of roses. Kids running around between mazes of roses. This is best rose garden in usa
Playground
Not really playground. But safe, enclosed. Kids can roam around safely
I have to honestly say it took my breathe away. My son love it too. The variety of the color roses. My only disappointment was there were no purple roses, but that did not ruin the experience of a life time. Even the trees provided a nice back drop. Just walking among the flowers provided me peace and a chances to smell the roses. …
I did not expect this. Absolutely beautiful! The scents that wafted around us were amazing. It was wonderful how so many people could be there at the same time but you could still feel solitude. Great set up, true beauty, relaxing atmosphere. We stayed a lot longer than we thought we would. This is a must see.
Beautiful garden where you can spend half a day walking around the colorful roses. And they smell great Nice place to have spend time with family especially kids. There were many people just for the photoshoot. There were 2 weddings happening at this place when we visited. Day well spent! Entry is free.
We visited this landmark during mid April. More than half of roses are blossom. In my opinion, it’s way better than Filoli garden’s rose section. And it’s free to the public. No wonder it got voted as the best rose garden in US. Houses around rose garden are also beautiful to look at. Note: no dog allowed.
This place was a beautiful gated park with tons of beautiful roses and sequoia trees. There are plenty of benches to sit and relax and many great photo opportunities. There is also a big fountain at the center of the garden. Over all just a beautiful peaceful place to visit. ✨ - Randomly.Steph …
We spent a couple hours smelling and admiring the roses at this very peaceful rose garden in San Jose. Free and I wished we had a blanket because it’s super tranquil and chill here. There is a huge variety of roses and my favorite is the Double Delight rose. Enjoy
Restrooms
No playground
A San Jose gem. Great to visit whether you're a local or visiting the area for the first time. Perfect for a short visit or bring a picnic blanket if you want to stay a while to read a book or take a nap.
Picnic area
Plenty of open spaces to picnic and play catch or kick a ball around.
Wonderful....one of if not the largest selections of rose plants in the USA. Park is kept up by city and friends of the park. Dogs are not permitted nor is any picking of roses....so it's a very calm and beautiful smelling place. Truly a stop a smell the rose's kind of place. …
Such a beautiful place to visit around this time, roses are blooming. Grab your picnic basket and have fun. Great for everyone. Parking is free and just park at the side of the streets. The park is free also, and they close 30 min after sunset. Love this, will definitely visit again.
Beautiful garden with tons of different types of roses and beautiful scenery, great for a romantic picnic or afternoon walk. There seems to be some sort of business that will set up a picnic for you if you'd like, but probably easier to just grab some items from the dollar store.
Absolutely Beautiful! It was our first time visiting the Rose Garden it's truly amazing. I felt like I was walking into a fairy tale as I entered the Rose garden beneath the Rose bush tunnel. It is probably even more spectacular in the spring when the Rose buds are blooming.
For a municipal garden maintained by volunteers this is one outstanding place. We saw colors and combinations we've never seen, just beautiful than we expected. Everything was in bloom and it was breathtaking. Parking is easy to find. Worth the visit if you are in the area.
Cute and quiet spot to walk around and see many different colored roses. This place gets busy with families and photographers taking photo shoots, which takes away from the place a little bit. You won’t need to spend a lot of time here. Ten minutes max is probably fine.
Very impressive varieties of Rose flowers, ample space to walk in, nice place to spend quality time on weekends or whenever one is free, sort of family picnic place with tall red woods behind and many roses beside. Very well maintained garden, thanks to the authorities.
Beautiful gardens. Roses are spectacular. Nice place to sit eat, enjoy life. Ppl were friendly and park was clean and inviting. Good variety of roses. Lots of history too. My favorite had to be the ketchup and mustard rose. Leave pets at home, this a humans only park.
Beautiful, award winning rose garden. Popular for photos but you need to schedule and pay a fee to have a professional photo shoot. I often see people doing martial arts in the grass. The neighborhood is also nice to walk around. Check out the nearby Egyptian museum!
Not the biggest or the best but a genuinely lovely place to relax. And I wasn't there when they were in full bloom. Different roses were all labeled and that was really cool. Passed by on accident but had seen it on Google and decided to stop, well worth the detour!
I visited this garden, this place you love with variety of roses and it will be the perfect place for good for photoshoots. Lot people visit this place to have a picnic during the spring time! The end of April and beginning of May are the best times to come.
Beautiful garden ,just loved it Had lots of variety of roses, never knew the names of different colour's roses. Use to call any colour rose as rose only. It was amazing to visit the park, A must visit Easily accessible, no entry fee
It's such a beautiful and lovely park. The roses are amazing, widely-varied and well-labeled. There are shaded spots and a wide open field. It can be well populated on the weekend, but I've never seen it be 'crowded' in my definition of the word.
A very well maintained rose garden in a beautiful locality. They have a huge variety of roses and it's a great picnic spot too. We also saw lots of runners there. Spring time is the bloom time for the roses and it's a must visit during that time.
One of my favorite gardens to visit. It offers beautiful backgrounds for wedding and other celebratory events. Make sure you don’t have to use the restrooms as they are highly hazardous and contaminated due to lack of hygiene and cleanliness.
Expected a lot to see but there are only less varieties but can spend time by sitting there. Spring season is so good you can see flowers book with many colors. Entrance of the park is so nice you can see a lot of big rose plants crepe.
Loved spending lunch time here. I walked around and smelled the roses. Nice benches to sit on. Be aware that the bathrooms are on opposite sides of the park (meaning women's and men's are separated at each end). Dogs are not allowed.
A beautiful place to visit. Take a stroll and smell the roses, literally! It's relaxing, peaceful and the colors are mesmerizing. Many people throw towels down and have a picnic. Bathrooms are also on site. Best of all, it's free!
Relaxed park with a huge open grass space, a beautiful fountain, and a large rose garden. Great for families, picnics, photo shoots. Definitely recommend. Perfect for a sunny day, can spend hours there or just wander through.
The most beautiful garden I have ever seen. The roses were in full bloom and smelled amazing in August(2022). I spent hours here and I could have spent hours more. No entrance fee and you can't pick the roses.
Beautiful, can’t think of another place to spend time after work during the months of April-September! Hundreds of different rosé varieties, from tree to bush to shrub to arches. Con: cannot bring your dog!!
Definitely worth visiting, visited with my wife and parents. Everyone enjoyed, city is maintaining very clean and you can have picnic in there and parallel parking is available in all directions of the park
Absolutely amazing. Such a magical place. We live in Wisconsin and definitely will have to come back to check out the garden in years to come.
Picnic area
A magical place for a picnic
Fantastic place. Easy to park (free parking). 100s of Beautiful Roses. Plenty of space. I think mens and women's bathroom are in opposite ends. The streets around are very beautiful too.
Great for an afternoon stroll, family picnic, proposals, weddings, yoga or just quiet reflection/relaxation. This well maintained Rose garden is our favorite spot to visit with family.
It's gorgeous when it's in full bloom. It has roses and red wood trees. A nice fountain and some ivy. Man, what s rose garden it is. Great for a photo shoot. Or a picnic. Just effin go
Place is good and colorful. I went in April’22 to celebrate my wife’s birthday and it was great experience. I just feel the only downside is the park is actually not that big in size.
Beautiful garden! Was way nicer than I was even anticipating. Great place for picnics and had a good amount of shade and while you had to park on the street, it wasn't too bad.
Fantastic place! You can smell the roses from across the street! Great collection of very beautiful and fragrant roses. Large, well manicured open space with island of trees.
Nice for a short stroll, wonderful scents from the roses and a beautiful scenery. Some of the planter areas could use a bit more weeding, but still nice.
Beautiful rose garden and walkways. We went at the end of November, and there were still roses blooming. The bathrooms needed a little attention
One of the best municipal rose gardens in the U.S., it's a delight to visit. Many weddings occur here. Please note that dogs are NOT allowed.
Beautiful park with rose of all kinds and colors! Walking through it is a pleasure for the eyes and the nose, with the amazing natural scent!
It is a very beautiful garden that it is a big garden. Parking facility is available. You will see you all kinds of Rose. Must visit once.
Very, very nice indeed! Such an array of color and lovely scents too. It's a great place to hang out for an hour or two and just relax.
Beautiful roses to stop and reflect on the wonders of nature. Very well kept and public. Plenty of parking around the street border.
End of May is the perfect season to visit - full of roses blooms! Great place for parents, old age people to relax all-year-round.
Really great garden to walk around. It has clear paths that are clean, a very cool fountain, and a variety of rose colors to see.
Beautiful and calming place. Love flower gardens!!!!!
Restrooms
One on each side of the garden. One for each gender.
Special only roses. Good place for two to three hours refreshments. Well maintenance. Very good with family, kids and friends.
Large variety of roses. Good for pics / mini photoshoot. Friendly people. Can spend an hour or two easily. No dogs.
Good place for picnic with family. Come early morning, easy parking, enjoy wide variety of roses! Well maintained

Such a wonderful place to be! Absolutely gorgeous during this time. Can't get over it. Strongly recommend!
Beautiful park, the roses are very fragrant and it’s nice to sit amongst the flowers and have a picnic.
This garden is a feast for the eyes. Well maintained with collections of many rare varieties of roses.
This place is amazing I love it. We went on Eid day for a special picture and had a lot of fun …
